Motivation is like the wind. It comes and it goes.Chances are it's going more than it's coming. As much as you wish that you could feel productive, and inspired to take action all the time (or even half of the time), there's just a missing motivation that often stops you from doing what you need to do.So in this episode, Valorie is going to give you the secret that all successful people use to stay motivated 100% of the time without fail. Here's the Big Secret: Don't believe anyone telling you they have got the secret to all-day, every day motivation. It's a lie. HA! No, but seriously. The truth is, no one feels motivated 100% of the time. Those mindset gurus and motivational speakers and ultra-successful people you see on Social Media may be more motivated than you, but even they struggle sometimes. So, if it's not motivation, what is it that makes them different? Is it just that they love what they do? Or that it comes naturally to them? Or maybe they just have better inspiration. No, it's that they've learned to distinguish their feelings from their decisions. And you can too.If you're ready to stop waiting and start achieving, tune in to hear this message of empowerment and learn how to make consistent progress toward your biggest goals.“Your feelings are honest. Let's face it: there are days when you just don't feel like getting things done. On those days, what are the thoughts that can move you forward when you don't feel motivated?Valorie is sharing a simple yet valuable tool on how we can keep moving forward on those days when we can't seem to get out of bed. Sharing a story from her father, sometimes momentum starts with just getting your feet on the ground. Learning that sometimes your feelings are not 'the truth', perhaps you need to consider honoring the actions that will take you to where you know you want to go. And if we do this, a pre-determined intentional action, we give our feelings time to catch up.Take writing, for example: rather than sit around waiting to feel inspired to start writing, take the action of sitting down to write. And surely, inspiration will follow! There's also advice on taking a gratitude break, knowing when to phone a friend, and how to be intentional about cultivating positive emotions that will all help move the needle for you on those days when you simply don't want to move at all! Have you ever taken the next step because it was offered? Not because it was your dream job but because it was an easy opportunity that just came along. And then perhaps, after a while, deep down, you began to wonder: is there something more? Is there an opportunity out there that is more aligned with your deeper purpose?Today on Successful Women Think Differently, host Valorie Burton is engaging in a coaching session with Jen Ramona, unpacking her 'should,' her purpose, and her next career move. Jen is part of Valorie's Successful Women Academy (SWA), and she has actually known Valorie since the 7th Grade. And so there is a warm affection between these two friends as Jen opens up on her recent retrenchment ("they" call it restructuring) - and what she should do next.Jen started her career as an office manager some 22 years ago and ended up as a healthcare executive in the same company. Deep down, she knew that the job was not the thing she should do forever – and so now she is taking some time to figure out what she should really be doing. Valorie is able to assist Jen in articulating her values, what she brought to her team, and what it would require from her next opportunity to turn that experience from a 9 into a 10. This episode is a delightful instruction in assessing your 'shoulds,' pinpointing what has been working for you (not "they”), and then articulating and aligning your strengths before focusing on a more purposeful next step! Have you ever felt so overwhelmed you don't know what to do next? Most of us have been there: it all feels too much, we feel the pressure of a deadline, and we try to do it all ourselves. Today, Valorie has a simple formula – The 4 Ds – which can help us all with that feeling of overwhelm. This formula comes from Valorie's book, Brave Enough To Succeed, and if you can apply these tools when you're feeling overwhelmed, you will be able to STOP, take control, and prioritize what it is that you need to do next. Sometimes in your life, you do need to push on through, but sometimes pushing through is not the best idea. And this is when you need to give yourself permission to take a break. If you, like Valorie, are something of a 'time optimist' and put more and more on your plate until you bump up against a deadline and then perhaps scream silently to yourself, 'Help!', then this is the help you need. From figuring out what you must Do and what you can Delay, what to Delete (and the joy of just saying NO), and what to Delegate, help is at hand to overcome your overwhelm today! If your overwhelm is becoming a repetitive pattern, then it's time to apply the 4 Ds! Please join us. "There's a lot of power in being able to delay things when you're delaying them intentionally. Why is it that women will only apply for a job when they meet ALL of the requirements, whereas men will apply for jobs when they often only meet half? There is a lot of research on how women underestimate their abilities and speak with less confidence about their accomplishments. So, what can you do as a Successful Woman who Thinks Differently to start building confidence today? Valorie starts with an appraisal of the areas of our life where a lack of confidence might have prevented us from doing more. Maybe it's a job you never applied for, or maybe it's a relationship you didn't believe you were good enough to be in. Upon reflection, you may see a pattern of inaction that played a part in your not seizing the moment. How we turn our thoughts into action is the antidote – and indeed a veritable definition of confidence – that Valorie is asking us to embrace. It's about taking a small action NOW and trusting our talent and ability. Seeing confidence as part of a cycle that leads to action, which brings success, and with it, more confidence is the smart approach that will inspire you as a Successful Woman not just to Think Differently but to TAKE ACTION too. And remember, that action starts with one small achievable step. Please join us. Do you ever find it difficult to complete any project because you're still putting the finishing touches on it? Do you keep putting off goals because the timing isn't right? In other words, is your perfectionism getting in the way of you living a successful life?Perfectionism is a problem. Have you heard of a concept called Complementarity? It's a powerful communication tool that turns even the most challenging people and situations completely around. If you've ever had someone throw you for a loop with their negativity, causing you to act as badly as them, then this episode of Successful Women Think Differently will help you to interrupt that pattern and shift the dynamics of a potentially toxic interaction. It's time to 'flip the script' of how we meet toxic energy with negativity. Kindness, curiosity, help, and silence are all unexpected reactions that you can use to prevent emotions from escalating and a situation from spiraling out of control. As Valorie teaches us, if it can work in hostage situations to defuse tension, then doing the unexpected can work in our lives too. By breaking the pattern of negativity with a non-complementary, positive action of our own, we are more likely to be met (in kind) with kindness. This is because, as humans, we practice what we call mirroring behavior. Learn how to choose words that take you closer to your goal, and keep focused on your vision. Let's not allow our emotions to make our decisions for us as we respond rather than react. Do you beat yourself up when you don't do things perfectly? Do you struggle with that nagging feeling that you've never quite done enough? Perhaps, for example, you have felt guilty about motherhood when you're achieving success in your career. If so, you are not alone. The same character trait that drives you to succeed as a successful woman may also be weighing you down with a feeling of guilt that you should be doing more.So how do we learn to let go of these feelings of guilt so that we can live a life that is unencumbered by the unnecessary weight of expectation we place on ourselves (or others place on us)? Valorie Burton teaches us how to do just that and take back our joy in today's inspiring episode of Successful Women Think Differently.First, we start with an understanding of why women are more prone to guilt and an examination of what guilt looks like in our everyday lives. From saying yes when we mean to say no, to letting others cross our boundaries, there are myriad ways we allow ourselves to feel guilty (without even knowing it) – and then make poor decisions. Recognizing that guilt is just a message and so an opportunity for change is a positive approach to take. Learning the difference between authentic and false guilt is the start of our journey to take back our joy. So don't go on that guilt trip if you don't need to – it will only leave you in debt! Please join us. "Most of the guilt that we're feeling, it's not authentic. It's not that we have caused harm or that we have done something wrong. There's a type of debt that far too many people are drowning in – and it's not financial debt. This kind of debt is stressful too. It can steal your dreams and your relationships and leave you with that nasty feeling of regret. Valorie Burton is talking about Time Debt on today's episode of Successful Women Think Differently. How can we overcome our time poverty and time debt and get on the road to building time freedom and time wealth? For starters, we have more choices than we give ourselves credit for, and so getting out of time debt begins with a mindset shift that is swiftly followed by changing your habits. Valorie is sharing her insights into the personal epiphany she experienced when she realized that her 'time optimism' (believing anything was possible and that time wasn't really an obstacle) had led her to feel overwhelmed, less productive, and in serious 'time debt.'Buying back your time so that you can spend that time more wisely and create time wealth for yourself becomes a pleasure when you realize that the power to change is in your hands. Don't let the tick-tock of Father Time stop you as a successful woman from thinking differently about how you reschedule your priorities in alignment with a 'time vision' for your life that will lead you to ever greater joy and success. Does your self-talk often spiral into irrational worst-case scenarios of what's about to go wrong? There's a word for that: catastrophizing! Catastrophic thinking can make you anxious, with that awful feeling of foreboding or anxiety that something must be about to go wrong. We end up inserting fear, or a ‘false guilt' into our thought patterns that can become permeated with negative thinking that gets us stuck – unable to step up and have a plan for whatever is actually going on. Valorie is expertly encouraging us to 'think about what we are thinking about,' to shine a light on the scenario at hand and question the likelihood of our catastrophizing coming to pass. Learn how to keep a lid on your catastrophic thinking in this relatable episode of Successful Women Think Differently. It needn't steal your joy! Let's find out how. "You can think differently. Are you focusing on what you want – or what you don't want? Successful women, when setting goals, are focusing on the positive things, rather than describing what they don't want. I'm Valorie Burton, and if you are ready to reframe the way in which you are articulating your vision by asking yourself three key questions, I believe you will achieve that much more. Today I'm talking about ways in which we can learn to refocus our attention on where we are going, reminding ourselves not to get too overwhelmed by the object that is in the way sometimes. This all starts with learning to ask ourselves 'what do I want?' and articulating a positive goal. Because then the destination is what matters, and we can remember it when that overwhelming object starts to grow bigger. Finding that locus of control, that thing that you can control, will shape your experience in a positive way. Peace is always at the top of my list. When I am at peace, even in a difficult season, I can walk through a situation with grace. So I remind myself that I want peace. What does success look like for you in this season of your life? Let's find out. Procrastination... what is that all about?!? How can you think differently in a way that will get you to push forward when you feel like hesitating? I'm Valorie Burton, and I sometimes jokingly refer to myself as a 'recovering procrastinator.' That's because there are times when I push past my procrastination and get things done – and then there are times when I fall back into my old habits. Today I'm sharing on the subconscious habits that cause us to procrastinate, as well as the tools we can use to identify when we are procrastinating and what to do to stop it. You can push through. You can achieve your goals. Sometimes it will be due to an adrenaline-fueled deadline, sometimes it will be so that you can make it to a Prince concert on time! Getting things done with joy and ease is better, though. Tapping into our sense of purpose and meeting that deadline in a calm and deliberate manner (without anxiety, stress, and self-sabotaging thoughts) is way better. Let's unpack what it is that you are stalling on. Let's discover what your procrastination is telling you about yourself. And then, once we've reflected on why we are holding ourselves back, we can get to work with actual tools to combat procrastination and achieve so much more in our lives. Let's dive in! What distinguishes the most successful women: those who achieve their vision, are rooted in their purpose, conquer their goals that might seem really difficult, and tap into their gifts and the things that are really important to them? What distinguishes that woman from a similar one who perhaps has the same resources and talent – and yet finds herself falling short of her goals? Welcome to the first episode of Successful Women Think Differently. I'm your host Valorie Burton, and I'm so, so excited that you are here with me.
