Pete and Trevor saw two of the greatest horror sci-fi movies ever made. We did a double-header of David Cronenberg's The Fly (1986) and John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). It's Jeff Goldblum versus Kurt Russell, Brundlefly versus The Thing from Another World, in an epic showdown of body horror, special effects, and possibly the best use of makeup ever. Listen in for our immediate reaction to these two classics. This is also week three of our ongoing project to watch every Aardman feature and short film. This week we are talking ‘Chicken Run', Aardman's first feature, directed by Nick Park and Peter Lord. We encourage everyone to watch along with us and check in each episode for our dedicated Aardman segment. Go to https://boxd.it/BQYVu for the watchlist. There's a moment in The Fly (1986) in which Seth Brundle–well into his transformation into Brundlefly–explains that he must vomit on a donut before eating it. The camera cuts away to show Geena Davis's reaction, which is the same reaction David Cronenberg evokes in his viewers throughout the film. Seducing women by showing off your Telepod collection! Science making Jeff Goldblum even sexier than he already is! What happens when science goes horribly wrong? Join us on Screams & Streams as we dissect David Cronenberg's 1986 horror classic, "The Fly." We begin with Mike's gripping retelling of the plot, focusing on the ill-fated Dr. Seth Brundle and his tragic transformation due to a botched teleportation experiment. To lighten the mood, we're sipping on a themed pina colada, crafted to capture the grotesque essence of Brundlefly's metamorphosis, a drink that promises to be as amusing as it is revolting. We then split hairs over our differing first impressions: Chad's disenchantment upon rewatching contrasts sharply with Sam's appreciation for the film's dark allure. Mike, meanwhile, dives into nostalgia, recounting his junior high experience of the movie. Expect an animated debate as we spotlight our favorite scenes—the grotesque transformations, Geena Davis's memorable lines, and even the eyebrow-raising arm-wrestling scene in the bar.In the final segments, we delve into the film's behind-the-scenes magic, discussing casting choices, the intricate makeup process, and deleted scenes that never made it to the final cut. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a curious newcomer, our comprehensive analysis offers fresh insights into this unforgettable piece of horror cinema. Tune in for a thrilling exploration of "The Fly" that promises to entertain and enlighten. Head to www.screamsandstreams.com for more information related to our episode.

Wouldn't it have been fun to review THE FLY (1986) and also the 1958 original version? I guess we'll never know, having only found time to cast our critical eye at the DAVID CRONENBERG remake. There's no messing about as the movie immediately throws the two main characters together at some kind of nerd convention. I'm a fan immediately getting on with the story and not wasting precious time with wearisome world building. We've got a podcast to make and efficient story telling such as this is a boon to people like us!I suppose the real test of a famous body horror movie from the 1980's is whether the visuals still hold up. Reegs and Sidey certainly think so. Let us know what you think of THE FLY on any of our social channels.

Zach & Zo brush off their lab coats to explore the lab of a mad scientist; well, he's not mad at first. It came to pass that by way of a combination of a drunken night of jealousy and a teleportation accident a mild mannered scientist slowly descends into that status of a mad scientist . . . and, as a bonus, over time he realizes that he's mutating into a human/fly hybrid. www.backlookcinema.comEmail: fanmail@backlookcinema.comTwitter: @backlookcinemaFacebook: The Back Look Cinema Podcast Instagram: backlookcinemapodcastBack Look Cinema Merch at Teespring.comBack Look Cinema Merch at Teepublic.com

On this episode of Sound in Space things are getting a little weird as our trio look at the science behind body horror movies and , as you do, in particular - movies where someone gets turned into an animal / insect against their will because…well we've already done time travel.  However , is there more science in these schlock horrors than we're expecting? Emmm.. First up under the microscope is  The Fly - David Cronenberg's  1986 insect starring horror is  genuine classic which saw Jeff Goldblum slowly change from Seth Brundle into BrundleFly after messing around with his new teleportation invention but is it possible to mix human genes with anything else ? If so, why would we do it? And what are the changes of coming up the telepods in the first place  and then  Tusk - Kevin Smith went from comic books and clerks to using his podcast army to create a horror where an annoying podcast host is held against his will and turned into a Walrus but could one really do that? Is this the movie that finally breaks Barry? And if annoying podcasters are targets will the next episode of Sound of Space be completely in Wallrus grunts?  Please do get in contact with anything at all to soundinspace@theshift.ie

“I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. But now the insect is awake. ¿O no? The Top 100 Project

Be Sci-Fi Month, be very Sci-Fi Month. The 395th Ellises' Analysis is the first of 4 flicks we'll discuss in June that identify with that creative genre. When you talk about David Cronenberg's 3 or 4 best pictures, The Fly has got to be a part of that shortlist. Sure, there's his trademark body horror and some jump scares and plenty of creepiness throughout, but it's also got more heart than almost any other horror movie. It's really a tragic love story sold as a fright flick. Jeff Goldblum is at his best here (putting up with extensive, Oscar-winning make-up that eventually swallows him right up), but Geena Davis' performance is wonderful too. She's the reason the last scene could make a person require eye-drying tissues. Lauded at the time, The Fly is maturing like a fine Canadian wine and it's even better now. So don't liquify your food in disgusting ways. Just curl up with our podcast and a few (solid) donuts to hear us dig into the nooks and crannies of the legend of Brundlefly. Well, Actually: Ronnie's character is briefly in The Fly II, but Saffron Henderson plays her, not Geena Davis. Also, Jeff Goldblum HAS been in other movies we've covered beyond the ones that were mentioned, including his non-speaking role in Nashville and his one-line cameo in Annie Hall. Screenwriter Gary Scott Thompson wrote the original script titled Pentagram in 1988. It included a ritualistic serial killer who has committed five murders every five years for the last quarter of the century, and always leaves pentagram symbols after each death. One of the reasons why changes were demanded is because the script was considered to be too similar to another horror thriller which came out around the same time, The First Power (1990). Pull your ears out and get 'em ready for 35 minutes of mind-blowing discussion of design, innovation, and making it happen. In all seriousness, we think is our best pod yet—definitely in our Top 20. At the center of Episode 12, Joe has a fantastic interview with Rob Poel, who works as the Director of New Business Innovation at Steelcase. He and Joe discuss a variety of topics, ranging from our Futures design theme of "Humanizing Smart Things" to what it's like to leading new business initiatives in an established, highly successful organization. What's it like to be an internal entrepreneur endeavoring to build things out beyond the horizon? Rob lives that, and has a lot of wisdom for anyone trying to make a dent in the universe. Rob, we can't wait to have you back on the King Ship pod! In our weekly installation of Venture Design that Blows Our Minds (VDTBOM), we discuss two excellent venture design articles: - How Twitter Found its Money Mojo - Chipotle: The Definitive Oral History Our Chipotle discussion harkens back to our Taco Truck DDP pod, one of our favorites. Plus, the merits of cricket-flour cookies, a truly excellent listener question about "linked prosperity" and the future of organizations, and a bunch of reasons why you shouldn't drink tasting vinegars while you pod. Many thanks to our producer Piper Loyd and our engineer Aaron Soloway for setting us with our new, professional-grade recording setup. While recording inside of our new Brundlefly chamber gets us all hot and sweaty, we think you'll agree this new setup is miles better acoustically than what we had in our earlier pods.
