Summer Events Sees Vodafone Ireland Handle Data Equivalent To 11 Years of Streaming Videos

This summer, Vodafone boosted connectivity by placing temporary sites at ten major events across the country, including, Bloom, Kaleidoscope, Flavours of Fingal, All Together Now, Tullamore show, Moynalty Steam Threshing and Electric Picnic, as well as events within Malahide Castle. St Annes Park and Marlay Park, including Longitude Festival. Looking back at the traffic, the team at Vodafone saw that the network handled more than 140 terabytes (TB) of data, equivalent to about 11 years of streaming videos, and approximately 2 million voice calls, facilitating customers' need to stay connected and share their special moments. As anticipated, Electric Picnic struck a chord, amping up over 40% of the total data and dialling in over 50% of the total calls across these summer events. The recent Fleadh in Wexford, and Electric Picnic showcased an array of app usage among attendees, highlighting the evolving needs and interests of festival-goers. Not surprisingly for Ireland, weather apps were among the most popular. Approximately 40,000 Vodafone customers at the Fleadh and 50,000 at Electric Picnic checked in on the apps to stay informed about weather conditions. Map apps also played a crucial role, guiding around 50,000 Fleadh attendees and 45,000 Electric Picnic goers. Additionally, social media and communication apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok saw substantial usage, enabling festival-goers to share their experiences and memories in real-time. In addition to summer events, Ireland welcomed global superstars Taylor Swift and Coldplay to our shores. Vodafone's network team prepared for uplifts in data traffic at these major concerts. At the Taylor Swift's shows, Vodafone recorded record-breaking data consumption at the Aviva, with traffic peaking each night the moment she took to the stage. Similarly, during Coldplay's performances, the network handled a significant increase in data usage, particularly on Sunday when Aslan made their first surprise appearance. The network upgrades across these events underscore Vodafone's commitment to delivering a reliable service. By effectively managing substantial data volumes and maintaining consistent connectivity, Vodafone has facilitated a seamless experience for their customers throughout the summer at multiple events. The witching season is upon us once again. Past Halloweens we’ve covered a Medieval Serial Killer, Medieval Zombies and more. All the Halloween episodes are available on the Halloween Podcast page. This Halloween we are looking at haunted castles from the Middle Ages. Castles We’ll visit a handful of castles around England and one in Ireland. Most of the castles today are in Northern England and one isn’t a castle. We’ll start out at Whitby Abbey and make our way north to Alnwick Castle and the infamous Alnwick Vampire! The Alnwick Vampire spread death and pestilence wherever it roamed. It was even recorded by medieval chronicler William of Newburgh. Then we’ll look at a castle dubbed ‘The Most Haunted Castle” in England, Chillingham Castle. Filled with the ghosts of hundreds of Scottish prisoners, an evil torturer and an innocent boy caught in the middle of political betrayal. The last two stops on our trip are on the Emerald Isle at Malahide Castle talking about perhaps, the first evil clown and ending up in London at the massive Tower of London! The Tower of London is home to some of the most famous ghosts in England including the Princes in the Tower and Queen Anne Boleyn. The night before her execution, Queen Anne wrote her death poem, which you can read below. I found a beautiful rendition of the poem set to music in the episode. Queen Anne Boleyn Death Poem: Oh Death, rock me asleep, Bring me to quiet rest, Let pass my weary guiltless ghost Out of my careful breast. Toll on, thou passing bell; Ring out my doleful knell; Let thy sound my death tell. Death doth draw nigh; There is no remedy. My pains who can express? Alas, they are so strong; My dolour will not suffer strength My life for to prolong. Toll on, thou passing bell; Ring out my doleful knell; Let thy sound my death tell. Death doth draw nigh; There is no remedy. Alone in prison strong I wait my destiny. Woe worth this cruel hap that I Should taste this misery! Toll on, thou passing bell; Ring out my doleful knell; Let thy sound my death tell. Death doth draw nigh; There is no remedy. Farewell, my pleasures past, Welcome, my present pain! I feel my torments so increase That life cannot remain. Cease now, thou passing bell; Rung is my doleful knell; For the sound my death doth tell. Death doth draw nigh; There is no remedy. The Tower of London also had one of the craziest executions recorded. A novice executioner missed his mark and chased an elder lady around hacking her to death. As comical as it sounds it as a gruesome death seen by over 150 witnesses. Grab some candy and get ready for a chilling tour of haunted castles! This weekend, Producer Tony Considine goes back in time to tell the story of Dublin’s first large-scale rock festival, the 1977 Thin Lizzy homecoming show at Dalymount Park. The show was staged to mark Philo's 28th birthday. 43 years on, we celebrate the event in his memory. The radio premiere of ‘Dancing in the Floodlights’ airs on Newstalk 106-108fm on Sunday 23rd August at 7am, with a repeat broadcast airing on Saturday 29th August at 9pm.  Image: Tony Considine 2020 ‘Dancing in the Floodlights’ Producer Tony Considine says: Despite their absence this year, attendance at music festivals is a rite of passage for Irish teenagers and twenty-somethings. Every summer sees stadium gigs at Croke Park and the Aviva on Lansdowne Road, festivals the length and breadth of the country as well as huge outdoor shows at the likes of Malahide Castle, Phoenix Park, Marley Park and St Anne’s. Yet, it was only a little over forty years ago that Dublin saw its first ever large-scale outdoor rock festival. And the venue was somewhere that has nearly been forgotten in terms of its place in Irish rock history, despite having stories connected to it involving Irish legends such as Phil Lynott and iconic international figures from Bob Marley to Beyoncé. While the likes of the Lisdoonvarna festival catered for the folk music scene from 1978 to 1983, the Lizzy gig pre-dated this by a year. Between 1977 and 1983, Dalymount was the only show in town for rock music fans looking for the festival experience on the island of Ireland. Original poster from Dalymount Park gig 1977 'Dancing in the Floodlights' tells the story of how that first concert came about, the impact it had on some of those who made it happen, who attended and who performed. It combines original interviews with Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham, Radiators from Space singer Steve Averill (aka Steve Rapid), Concert Promoters Pat and Marie Murphy, DJ Pat James and Journalist Frank McNally alongside music and archive footage from the time. CREDITS: ‘Dancing in the Floodlights’ was written, produced and sound engineered by Tony Considine. Meet Ian White founder of Australian Bush Flower Essences and learn how they support emotional healing. Yes flower power as medicine... and unusual ones at that! Check out below my favourite weird looking Australian flower and what it can be used for - it's appearance may give you a clue. I've been using Australian Bush Flower Essences and recommending them for many years but mainly the combination ones for extra support. I got to the stage that I wanted to learn more and went to beautiful Malahide Castle in Ireland last May to attend an 3 day workshop with the creator of these extraordinary tools, Ian White. The best thing about the flower essences is that they can be used by anyone. You don't have to do a training course unless you really want to get to know each individual essence in more depth. There is a wide range of off the shelf combination essences that cover a number of issues. My picture below only shows a few of them. I had a short amount of time with Ian so after the interview I give you my personal tips on how you can use them and which essence needs to be in everyone's medicine cabinet. I hope that you'll give them a try as they are safe and easy to use and may just give you the support that you need right now. For more information and some videos about the different essences please visit the official website: http://ausflowers.com.au/   Grey Spider Flower which is used to release deep fears and terrors.

Dedicated to Ireland family travel, her website Ireland Family Vacations, provides exceptional advice for a magical Ireland vacation. For families looking for a perfectly tailored Ireland vacation, Jody offers Ireland vacation coaching, working with your family to help you choose the perfect lodging, destinations, and activities to fit your budget, interests, and expectations. INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL TIPS Get an international driver's license from AAA if you are renting a car Sign up for SMART Travel enrollment program to get alerts when we you are traveling overseas Purchase "cancel for any reason" travel insurance Alert your bank and credit card companies in advance to let them know about your travel plans Get foreign currency from your bank in advance If heading to Europe, make sure you have a chip and pin card Check with your bank to see if they have partner banks in the country you are traveling Get a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees Turn off your data and voice roaming and look into either international plans, use WiFi or get a MiFi device Press and hold 0 to get the + sign to call internationally SAMPLE IRELAND ITINERARY Plan on staying at least 10 to 14 days. If possible, fly into Dublin and out of Shannon so you aren't backtracking and it is very easy to fly in and out of Shannon. Then plan on doing a loop through the South. Spend two days exploring Dublin Head down to Kilkenny with a stop enroute in the Wicklow mountains Then either go into Cork or go over to Killarney where you can find the Ring of Kerry and Dingle with three days in either Then head to the northwest and the Cliffs of Moher and Shannon IRELAND FAMILY TRAVEL TIPS Don't drive in Dublin, take the bus from the airport into town Fly out of Shannon airport if you can Stay at least two nights in each location when traveling with kids Ireland is the size of Indiana, but you still can't see and do everything you want to do in 10 days Print off a map of Ireland to see how far it is from place to place and to help you plan your route Rent the smallest car you can because the roads are very narrow In Ireland you will need to purchase a collision damage waiver on your car rental The Office of Public Works has a family pass that will get you into many sights across Ireland The Dublin Pass includes transportation into the city and places like the Guinness storehouse, the Dublin Zoo, as well as museums and castles If you plan on visiting the Cliffs of Moher and Bunratty Castle in the same day, you can get a dual ticket on the Shannon Heritage website Be sure to try the Irish Breakfast, black pudding (blood sausage), and some of their hyper-local, naturally-grown foods Visit the Cliffs of Moher and major sites in the afternoon after the tour buses have left BEST PLACE TO TAKE FAMILY PHOTO Jody recommends Cliffs of Moher, O'Brien's tower, Bunratty Castle, or Malahide Castle as they all offer beautiful backdrops. For the Cliffs of Moher, the best time to visit would be is the afternoon after the tour buses have come and gone and the sunset is gorgeous. FAVORITE TRAVEL GEAR Jody does a lot of hiking in Ireland so she recommends Keen hiking boots and Keen sandals for water sports. She also likes the Molly ScotteVest jacket, which is great for layering with lots of pockets. She also uses convertible pants because they dry so fast. Also bring layers like a light wool shirt and raingear, but it generally doesn't get colder than 50 and higher than 72 degrees. APP OF THE WEEK If you are traveling overseas, we recommend using Google Translate. You may also want to download a phrasebook app that works offline and if you want to learn some language before you go, check out Duolingo.
