Feeder Cattle Imports From Mexico & Red Angus Heifers Selling   Feeder Cattle Imports From Mexico Set To Resume In January Imports of feeder cattle from Mexico are expected to partially resume the week of Jan. 20, with full live animal movements anticipated later, according to a Drovers report. The initial reopening will be gradual to implement and test new protocols. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) suspended cattle and bison imports from Mexico on Nov. 22, 2024, after detecting New World screwworm near Mexico's southern border. The pest poses a significant risk to cattle health, prompting the development of stringent screening protocols. The suspension has led to an estimated 250,000-300,000 fewer cattle imports and supported higher U.S. feeder cattle and calf prices, again that according to Drovers. Michael Morpurgo: Author discusses his newest book 'Cobweb'

Michael Morpurgo is a literary treasure. The author of War Horse and Private Peaceful, he's written around 150 books, loved particularly among children and young people. He's returned with yet another novel, Cobweb following a little dog heading to London in the aftermath of Britain's triumph at Waterloo. Morpurgo told Jack Tame that much like many of his stories, Cobweb was inspired by a friend of his who walked 250 miles from the West Coast of Wales to London on a drovers' road. Drovers' roads are the paths farmers would use to bring their livestock from their farms to the market, as back before vehicles and public transport became common, walking was the only way to reach the big cities. While researching drovers' roads, Morpurgo realised that their stories, and the stories of drovers' dogs in particular, aren't well known. “And I thought, that's a story that mostly no one knows, so why don't you tell it? Tell that tale? So that's what I did.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Nestled on the edge of Loch Lomond, where the mist clings to the mountains and the ancient trees whisper secrets in the wind, lies The Drovers Inn. For over 300 years, this historic inn has been a silent witness to the passage of time, a refuge for weary travellers, and a gathering place for those brave enough to face the spirits that still linger within its stone walls. But The Drovers Inn is more than a relic of history; it's a place where the past refuses to be at rest. Over the centuries, guests have reported encounters with the spirits that haunt its rooms and corridors. From the ghostly figure of a young girl to the unexplained footsteps in the dead of night, the inn's walls seem to hold onto the memories of those who came before.Hi, I'm Renata, And I'm Anne and in the episode of the True Hauntings Podcast we take the high road to the Drovers Inn, where I have actually spent a few nights whilst travelling in Scotland.Be prepared for some ghost stories that will send shivers down your spine and remind you that in Scotland, the line between the living and the dead is thinner than you might think. Drovers. Do you know those are? Chances are good you do if you've ever watched a cowboy movie. And if you have, you know that there are good ones and bad ones. One drives the sheep and cattle off and the other ensures that they arrive safely at their destination. God described just such an image for the prophet Jeremiah.

On this episode of Strung Out we interview two great Chicago Irish musicians, Jackie Moran on bodhran (the Irish drum) and Seán Cleland (fiddle) both of whom teach at The Irish Music School of Chicago (irishmusicschool.org) and were part of the legendary band The Drovers during the mid-late 1980's, when Chicago was at the forefront of a renaissance of Irish music, dance and culture.  But Chicago had an amazing role in the preservation and propagation of Irish music that predates such bands as The Drovers, Midnight Court, The Wailin' Banshees to name a few of the day.  About 80 years earlier, one Chicago policeman, Chief Francis O'Neil, took it upon himself to save all the tunes that were rapidly being dispersed and lost due to the great famine and immigration.  O'Neil went about hunting down Irish musicians and with the help of colleague James O'Neil, meticulously recorded note for note the melodies that each musician had in his or her recollection.  This became the standard "bible" of Irish melodies and it can be argued that this single action, created in the Windy City, was responsible for maintaining the rich level of Irish music we enjoy today. Fast forward to the 1980's again, and the rise of such stars as Michael Flatley, a Chicago-plumber-flautist-dancer and schools like the Trinity School of Irish Stepdancing lead another wave of Chicago infused Irish music and dance.  With amazing traditional players on the scene from the old country as well as new Windy City stars like Liz Carroll, John Williams, Jimmy Keane, Martin Hayes and many others, Chicago becomes the hotbed of Irish music.  Rising through this rich soil of Midwestern Celtic Sound comes the Big Shouldered energy of bands that delivered a driving, devil-may-care, hammer swinging energy that was uniquely Chicago. That sound thrived throughout the 80's and well into the early 2000's when that era slowly ebbed away.  What it was replaced with is up to debate.  Which is the reason for the podcast.Martin McCormack joins Jackie and Seán as they play some of the signature sounds captured by  Chief O'Neil and talk about Chicago Irish Music, where it has been and where it is heading.

In today's episode, Ali and Katie are stopping by a shearing shed out the back of Boggabri to meet one of the Narrabri region's most colourful characters - shearer and epic fundraising legend Col 'Mad Dog' Gillham. Mad Dog's hometown of Boggabri is best-known as "the little town with the big heart", but there's no bigger heart than Mad Dog's. He's raised truckloads of money for charity in wild, wacky and wonderful ways, from conquering the challenge of a 40-HOUR-shear-a-thon to walking 40 kilometres wearing 74 bras to raise money for cancer sufferers and more! This laconic Aussie character has a heart of gold and is one of the many generous (and humble) volunteers in country Australia who go above and beyond to make the bush a better place to live and visit. Mad Dog's got a swag of cracking yarns from the popular Drovers' Campfire event, and plenty of shearing shed stories to share including what the delicacy of sheep's brains tastes like - if you dare to try! The locals don't call him 'Mad Dog' for nothing....hope you enjoy this chat!

This week's conversation ranges far and wide, covering everything from agriculture's diminishing representation in elected positions, particularly in executive branches, to how agriculture must remain engaged even in the face of what seem like David versus Goliath battles. We're joined by one of rural Colorado's finest, state Senator Jerry Sonnenberg (R-Sterling). As an agriculture producer himself, Senator Sonnenberg knows well the struggles the ag industry and rural populations face. His deep background and experience on Colorado's Capitol Hill bring perspective to a lot of questions that Millennial Ag is constantly chewing on. We discuss how agriculture's inclination to give a little here, give a little there feels like we may soon be dying by death by a thousand cuts. We talk about the necessity of focusing on building relationships, rather than just stubbornly trying to continue to "educate people." We ask questions whose answers aren't readily apparent, but ask them anyway, and throw in a few laughs along the way. Join us for Episode 51 featuring an elected official with a real stake in production ag and a real desire to protect and promote our industry and America's rural way of life. One of our rare smart episodes, the boys learn how to blind taste correctly from wine goddess Christy Frank, and end up getting more than they bargained for. Expect a lot of discussion about value, responsibility towards customers, failure and the kind of guys who say “smooth” when they taste. Christy also discusses her hair secrets and refuses to comment on our own sick cuts, and it’s clear the boys are a littler terrified of her and as such, it takes 2 glasses of wine before the discussion of what Luigi might look like shirtless. Please go shopping at Christie’s store, Copake wine works in the Berkshires, read the Feiring line newsletter, and consume Australian wine. Paul Bradley joined the podcast to talk about his adventures creating the tour management software system, Eventric. He shared how he started in band management and tour operations, along with being a drummer on tour, and created databases on a Compaq computer on Filemaker software. After years of developing databases and sharing them with other tours, he began to sell databases as a system and created Eventric. Paul shared his experiences with data security, possibilities of predictive data, environmental management trends, and other adventures happening in touring complexity for music and other experiential events. He ended with advise on how to enter the touring business for young people passionate about the live event space. Guest: Paul Bradley, CEO and Founder, Eventric Paul Bradley began his career promoting concert events in the early 1990s. His company HW Productions contracted and promoted national touring acts such as the Dave Matthews Band, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, the Samples, as well as dozens of local events and bands. In 1995, he began touring in a management and advisory capacity with various nationally recognized artists including the Dave Matthews Band and The Drovers. He developed multiple touring technologies that began to revolutionize the antiquated and fragmented business of live event touring, and formed Eventric in 2009. Eventric’s core products, Master Tour and Live Access, have powered over 1,000,000 live events and helps over 4,000 artists, bands, and corporations execute their events more efficiently and profitably. With offices in Chicago and Los Angeles, Eventric employs 15 people and is considered the “industry standard” for touring and live event technologies.
