Abby Anderson is School of Hollywood Guest. Abby current single on all platforms is " Juicy" We talk about her path from Texas to Nashville to be a hit songwriter / singer. Hot off the release of her single “Juicy,” in June, country-pop superstar Abby Anderson just released her highly-anticipated debut album, “Sugar Spice” out now. Having toured across the US with country superstar Brett Eldredge, recording a duet with new hot country artist Jimmie Allen performing on the TODAY Show, as well as the ultimate country music festival Stagecoach, the singer/songwriter is ready to share the summer album of 2022!
Abby Anderson is a Texas native who moved to Nashville to fire up her music carear, she made the kind of music the music label wanted her to make so they could "Sell her". She has just released her first full album of original work, that is about ending relationships, though it might seem like its a single person, her work is about breaking free from overly controlling forces. Those forces could be the label, a relationship, or even a religion. The conversation went in so many directions, we covered so many topics in her music, and left way too many loose ends we never finished talking about. She is a very charming, fun and inspiring woman. She is all about owning and empowering yourself. The new music isn't really country, some of it is actually a soul tinged late 70s disco with a southern accent in her lyrics. She toured with some giants, but, if you want to know how she killed, well, she took the road with Rob Thomas. Nuff said. instagram album youtube website facebook #abbyandersonmusic #abbyanderson #countrypop #robthomas #juicy #exmo #exmormon #sugarspice #615house #nashville #bodypositive

In this episode, Karin is joined by singer-songwriter Abby Anderson. With authentic, genre-bending sound, Abby quickly rose to stardom at an early age. Though it appeared her dreams were coming true, she was feeling anything but perfect. Abby realized she wasn't being her most authentic self with the image she was projecting, so she listened to her heart and made some changes. Those changes shined through in the music she was creating and are reflected in the track “Bad Posture,” a tribute to her recovery from an eating disorder and the start of Abby sharing music that embraces her past and her present with a sound that fully captures who she is as an artist and songwriter.Join Karin and Abby for a conversation on Abby's recovery from an eating disorder, breaking down roles and habits, mindfulness to create space to move towards authentic self, conveying deep emotions through art, censoring our own thoughts, the distance created by trying to “fit-in,” shedding feelings of shame and guilt, accepting that we are not responsible for other's perceptions of us, “Bad Posture,” and more.• Listen to Abby on Apple Music and Spotify• Follow Abby on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram

Episode description: Abby Anderson is a business school graduate who works a corporate job and is passionate about mental health, yoga, and personal development. Diagnosed with anorexia in the summer of 2018, she has experienced a series of ups and downs worth noting to anyone with an eating disorder or disordered eating. In this episode of Peace Meal, Abby tells us about the process of her eating disorder recovery, including the shifts in motivation she has experienced during it. She begins with the rock-bottom moment she first sought help. Exhausted and physically depleted, she recalls being highly motivated to make a change at the start of treatment. As is typical in recovery, her motivation ebbed and flowed as time went on, and she learned why healing is often described as a nonlinear process. “Your body catches up a lot before your mind does,” she says. In the process of recovering both physically and psychologically, disordered behaviors crept back into Abby's life. Her “unhealthy voice” got louder the more she engaged in these behaviors, and the pressures of the college environment didn’t help. Returning to treatment allowed Abby to recommit to and strengthen her recovery, a process that continues today. She has insight into the common barriers to healing, as well as tools to maintain motivation. Abby shares several strategies that have been helpful to her healing, emphasizing the power of supportive environments and people. Reflecting on her own experience, she concludes with words of advice for those currently feeling unmotivated or ambivalent about recovery: “The best thing I ever did—and the hardest thing I ever did—was take my hands off the steering wheel and give it to someone else. . . give it to a professional.” Learn more about The Emily Program online or by calling 1-888-364-5977. — About the podcast: Peace Meal is an Emily Program podcast that discusses topics related to eating disorders, body image issues, and how society may contribute to distorted thinking. They then opened the voting to the public to narrow it even further to the top five finalists. And in August 2020, Danika Portz was announced as the winner with her song, House Becomes a Home. Jimmie Allen, Mickey Guyton, Abby Anderson and Twinnie discuss issues around the country music industry, how they tell stories in their songs, and the importance of being yourself and speaking your mind. Jimmie Allen is an artist from Southern Delaware, USA, who mixes country, rock, R&B, and pop. He released his debut album Mercury Lane in 2018, a tribute to the street he grew up on, which led him to be labelled “one of the hottest rising stars in country”. His latest EP, Bettie James, is a collaborative projective released last year. On that EP is Mickey Guyton, and she’s also on the show today. She’s a singer-songwriter from Texas described as “the unapologetic voice country music needs right now”. Her debut single, Better Than You Left Me, broke the record for being added to more country radio stations in its first week of release than any other debut single. She also recently made history as the first Black female solo artist to earn a Grammy nomination in a country category. Abby Anderson is also from Texas, where she learned to play the piano from the age of 5. She moved to Nashville at 17 before releasing her debut EP I’m Good in 2018. Since then, she’s collaborated with some of the biggest names in country, and is getting ready to release her debut album. And finally, Twinnie is a singer-songwriter from Yorkshire, England, with strong ties to Nashville. Her career started in acting, and she performed in film, TV and theatre, before releasing her debut album Hollywood Gypsy in April 2020.

Abby knew she wanted to do Brazilian jiu-jitsu to be able to defend herself if a dangerous situation ever happened. The problem was that she didn't have the money to join the classes. However, she worked her way up: if she couldn't do what she wanted/needed to do, she would do SOMETHING that would get her closer to that end goal. Nowadays, many people are looking for a 100% improvement, or they are not even gonna try. If you can't achieve what you want, most people won't even bother. Vassar has a virtual livestream series and Circle All Access TV show Phil Vassar is one of country music's most prominent singer/songwriters and was racking up hits on the radio before he began his own recording career. Vassar's reign of signature songs include 10 No. 1 singles and 26 Top 40 hits, including "Carlene," "Just Another Day in Paradise," "Six-Pack Summer," "When I Love You," and many more. Vassar's songwriting career blossomed in the mid-'90s when he landed a publishing contract with EMI and penned hits for Collin Raye ("Little Red Rodeo"), Alan Jackson ("Right on the Money"), Tim McGraw ("For a Little While"), Jo Dee Messina ("Bye Bye," "Alright"), and Blackhawk ("Postmarked Birmingham"). Since he can't tour due to the ongoing pandemic, the award-winning singer/songwriter created a virtual series that will make fans feel like they're hanging out at a retro piano bar, much like the venues where Vassar got his start. The livestream series airs every other Tuesday at 8 pm ET and features Vassar covering well-known songs by Billy Joel, Elton John, James Taylor, Jackson Brown, and Kenny Rogers, as well as requests from fans via social media. This year marks 20 years since "Just Another Day In Paradise" hit the top of the charts, marking his first-ever No. 1 as a recording artist. Earlier this year, he released his long-awaited tenth studio album, Stripped Down, featuring songs he's written but never recorded in the past 20 years, and new music, including a duet with his daughter Haley. In addition to the new album, Vassar's TV series Phil Vassar's Songs from the Cellar launched on the Circle Network. The weekly series, produced by NashPhil Cellars and The Nice Kids, featured all-star celebrity guests including Mike Tyson, Cam, Carrot Top, Jessie James Decker and more. The second season is underway. Check local listings. The interview was conducted by Buddy Iahn the same day Vassar was nominated for the 2020 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Vassar and I discuss the honor of being nominated -- although it wasn't until early November that others were chosen for this induction this year -- his career, both livestream and TV series' and his daughter's foray into the music industry. A couple of weeks after our interview, it was announced that Vassar would be headlining Christmas 4 Kids (C4K) fundraising livestream concert on November 23rd. Old Dominion's Matt Ramsey, STYX's Tommy Shaw, Lonestar, Craig Morgan, Jeffrey Steele, David Lee Murphy, Terri Clark, David Nail, Billy Dean, Abby Anderson and Lexie Hayden all joined Vassar during the live set. This week I’m talking with my old friend Eric Hurt who has spent over 20 year as a song plugger, publisher and A&R rep working with some of Nashville’s biggest music companies and songwriters. We are discussing what it takes to work as a song plugger and publisher. Setting yourself apart so that people find value in who you are and will want to work with you. The importance of showing up and giving your all so that industry people will start noticing you. Plus, two of the most important ingredients to be successful in the music industry.Sponsors: Edenbrooke Productions - We offer consulting services and are offering listeners a 1-hour introductory special. To request more info on consulting services, email Marty at contact@johnmartinkeith.com. Talking Points:*The people who are most successful are the ones who don’t give up.*Find ways around “no.”*Went to Belmont University for composition and arranging. Although I wasn’t required to have an internship with my degree, I realized the importance of having one so I could network and get to know people.*I got an internship at a publishing company called Almo/Irving which is the best thing I have done in my career to set up me for success.*Laws have changed and it has become more difficult to get an internship if you aren’t in school.*You can still get an internship without going to college and going through an internship program, but you will probably work with a small company instead of one of the larger companies.*I ended up at Forefront Records for a while, but stayed in touch with the people at Almo/Irving and they recommended me for a position as a song plugger for producer Joe Scaife at Cal 4 Entertainment. That happened because I maintained my relationships with people at Almo/Irving.*Be patient, not pushy.*A song plugger is someone who maintains relationships with all the labels and A&R teams. They also build relationships with all the publishers. You keep up with all the artists in town that are working on records and the kind of material they are looking to record and when your client (songwriter) has a song you feel works for that artist’s project, then you take that song to the record label or producer or artist and play it for them to try to get them to record it on their album. You try to get the songs into as many hands as possible.*A song plugger also sets up co-writes with other writers or artists.*Song pluggers can work for a company or independently.*Liz Morin and Ronna Reeves are great independent song pluggers. But they don’t work with just anybody. It has to be artists they feel like has a home somewhere.*If you hire an independent song plugger, make sure they have good relationships with the people in the industry.*If you want to be a song plugger, you have to be very outgoing, social and love meeting new people. Be comfortable in a lot of different scenarios, one-on-one or with a room full of people. You need to look for companies that have success because they are going to help set up initial meetings for you as a song plugger so you can get to know the high up people at labels and publishers, etc.*After a while I decided to go back to making music and stepped away from the business side, but after a few years I realized I preferred the business side of music.*I came back and worked at Brentwood Benson Publishing as creative director basically doing the same thing I had done as a song plugger with the other companies, but on a larger scale.*Whether you’re an artist or want to be on the business side there are 2 things that there are no substitutes for: Patience and hard work.*Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s.*For the past few years I worked for Black River Entertainment doing publishing and setting up co-writes, looking for songs, etc. I signed an artist named Willie Jones to a publishing deal which led me to working with my current company EMPIRE.*If you are in a creative position at a publishing company, you are setting up co-writes, pitching songs, dealing with A&R on signing new talent to pub deals, etc.*Most people think of A&R as being only on the record label side, but there is that same element when signing writers to a publishing deal.*I’ve been diligent learning multiple sides of the industry, broadening my web of contacts so that I can move in different areas and genres and pivot as needed which has created value over time and led to multiple opportunities so that people are always reaching out to me for a position, not me seeking out new positions for myself.*When I sign a writer for EMPIRE I look for people that already have a team around them and they have some momentum at what they are doing currently.*At Black River Entertainment it could be a brand new writer that had no cuts but was could at tracking and producing.*Sometimes it’s knowing when to sign new young writers and knowing when to sign anchor writers that have had hits over their career.*At EMPIRE I am the VP of A&R launching the Nashville division. They’ve had lots of success in the urban space including Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Snoop Dogg, etc.*They wanted to get into country music so I am spearheading that by offering something with an urban philosophy and mindset on how we partner with artists and put music out.*When you’re married you have to have a supportive and understanding spouse. It’s a lot of odd hours. You have to have a balance and make sure you have family time. When your off, be off.*Learn the power of “no.”*If you learn when to say “no” that can make you more valuable and more respected to people.*If you want to work for a label, publisher, etc. or get signed to one as an artist or writer, you need to move to a music town that does those things and immerse yourself in the genre and the side of the business you want to be on.*Find out where things are happening, where the influencers are, where people in the music community hang out so you can show up be around it.*In Nashville every Monday is Whiskey Jam where a lot of artists perform and every Tuesday is Tin Roof Revival. Show up and be there because industry people go to those events and you can rub a lot of elbows and start building relationships in a really authentic way.*Don’t be pushy or try to rush anything.*Find people you connect with.*Just show up in everything you do.*Show up to the city you want to be in, the events you want to be at, to work, your co-writing session on time and early and people will start noticing. With over 20 years experience in Nashville's music industry, Eric Hurt is the first official team member of EMPIRE Nashville as their VP of A&R, spearheading EMPIRE's Country initiative around Willie Jones with one of his first EMPIRE signings being iHeart Media podcast & soundtrack Bear and a Banjo; produced by T Bone Burnett, narrated by actor Dennis Quaid, and written by Grammy winning producer/writer Jason Boyd aka Poo-Bear and Jared Gudstadt. Hudson Yards may be New York's newest neighborhood, but it has already risen to the #2 spot on PropertyShark's list of the city's most expensive neighborhoods Way back in Episode 7, we talked about the proposal for a public beach in Manhattan, and this week, the Hudson River Park Trust revealed some renderings of what the park and beach may look like 231 years ago on July 26, 1788 — New York becomes the 11th state to join the United States of America This week, the city Department of Health detected mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus within the NYC area. July begins the active season for West Nile infections, which are spread via mosquito bites, and no human cases of West Nile have been detected yet, so now is the time to be prepared and protect yourself from mosquitoes if you will be outside. Wear clothing that covers your skin, use a mosquito repellent containing the chemical repellents DEET or Picaridin, or use a natural repellent containing oil of lemon eucalyptus. Be sure to seal around your window air conditioners so that mosquitoes won't have an easy entrance into your home, and use window screens if you'll be leaving windows open. If you'll be traveling overseas, take special precaution to avoid mosquito bites, and consider a vaccination against diseases that are common in the areas where you will be traveling. If you're staying in the city, you can even do your part by calling 311 to report standing water, defined as a place on public or private property where water gathers and remains for more than five days, creating a habitat where mosquitoes may breed. 102 years ago on July 28, 1917 — 10,000 people march in the Silent Parade down Fifth Avenue to protest recent violence and riots aimed at Blacks in the South — Learn more about the Silent Parade from the Bowery Boys. 3 years ago on August 2, 2016 — Karina Vetrano is attacked and murdered while jogging in Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach, Queens 74 years ago on July 28, 1945 — A U.S. Army B-25 bomber hits the Empire State Building, killing the three crew members and 11 people in the building 43 years ago on July 29, 1976 — David Berkowitz shoots two young women in the Bronx, beginning the Son of Sam murders that would keep NYC on edge for the next year 103 years ago on July 30, 1916 — The Black Tom explosion near Jersey City levels buildings, kills four, and injures hundreds — Read more from the FBI's history of the explosion 48 years ago on August 1, 1971 — George Harrison and Ravi Shankar organize the Concert for Bangladesh at Madison Square Garden The Straphangers Campaign and TransitCenter had some distinguished awards to hand out to two of the city's bus lines this week: In Manhattan, the M14A, which runs from the Lower East Side to Chelsea along 14th Street, received the award for slowest bus line, achieving an average speed of just 4.3mph. When it comes to reliability, Brooklyn's B15 comes in last place, leaving bus riders wondering when or if the next bus would arrive. The slowest buses in Queens and Staten Island are leaving the other boroughs in the dust, racing down city streets at 6.4 and 7.8 mph respectively. Unfortunately those job approval numbers have only gotten worse, sinking down with each survey until he reached a 42% approval when Quinnipiac last asked the question in an April 2019 poll. First time ever I record a LIVE performance from one of my past guest... half of the episode is in my car and the other is a live Abby Anderson show. This was a friends and family that she called practice for her upcoming run opening up for Kelsea Ballerini"In my 15 years living in Nashville, I have been fortunate to watch a lot of friends like Kip Moore, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line, A Thousand Horses, Michael Ray and more, start their journeys with a back pack and a dream and end up being a huge success in country music. Yet the most frustrating part about being a friend and a fan to not just artist, but writers like Corey Crowder, Justin Weaver, Rick Huckaby, Westin Davis and many more, has been hearing amazing songs that will never leave the Nashville city limits."Nashville Hits Collecting Dust" is a casual, entertaining hangout with friends telling stories, giving valuable advice, and playing great songs that otherwise would still be sitting in a database. My guest are pure entrepreneurs that are living out their dream of being artist and full time songwriters."
