About a year and a half ago I had some surgery which ended up putting me on some pretty heavy painkillers for a few days. During this time, going in and out of sleep I started reading Geoff Johns’ “Green Lantern” run. It would only be a few pages here and there in and out of my head, but it oddly helped and finally got me to be down with Hal Jordan. Hey, I was a teen in the ’90s, Kyle has always been my boy. All in all, I hope you’re down for this episode full of some fantastic music! 00:00 – Corey Dixon – We Wanna See a Solution (Roots) (We Wanna See a Solution ’20) 03:04 – the KING LION – In the Green (BLANK ’19) 06:12 – the Stiff Joints – Dead Yellow Elephant (First Proper Album ’17) 09:45 – WST Ska Orchestra – Red is Danger (Big Band Tribute to the Skatalites Vol. II ’15) 14:12 – Dan P. and the Bricks – Map of the Stars (Watch Where You Walk ’12) 17:21 – P-Funk North – All My Heroes are Potheads (All My Heroes are Potheads ’20) 20:17 – the Pinstripes – Everybody (the Decay ’07) 23min of Ska is produced weekly by RJ Phoenix Episode artwork by: Liam Sharp and Steve Oliff Based on: “the Green Lantern" issue 1 If you'd like to submit your band for a future show email: submissions@23ska.com Any other questions or comments, please email: podcast@23ska.com There's a lot of great ska vinyl out there, so head over to our partners in crime at http://www.GrandpasCasino.com RJ is also the co-host of another ska podcast, check out On the Upbeat at https://linktr.ee/ontheupbeatska Session Nineteen // Episode : 420 // Airdate : August 27th, 2020

So for the first time in a long time I was up so late perfecting this episode. I thought I'd had the music part done several times. One time I even saved it for publishing. Thing is, it didn't feel right, the next few drafts didn't feel right either. It took time, but "Hectic Planet" is one of my favorite and well missed comics of all time. Trying to capture what I like about the book using the music I dig most highly, and trying to promote a load of current ska bands, it is something that needs perfecting and perfection. If you've never read "Hectic Planet" you owe it to yourself to dig up the 3 collections out there and enjoy. And if the art looks familiar, it should, "Hectic Planet" artist and writer Evan Dorkin did a host of ska compilation covers throughout the '90s. He's a staple of the scene and a staple of my life. 00:00 - We Are The Union - What's Wrong with Me? So, uh, why comics for the theme of the 19th Session of 23min of Ska? Honestly, because I l dig them. Comics were my first pop culture love. Sure, television and movies were OK, but I never had strong allegiances to any show or franchise. But then I found comics... oh man, it was on! I was mostly a news stand kid before eventually finding my way to the specialty stores, one of which I ended up working at in my 20s. A few years later I got into ska, so they're both foundational blocks of who I am, so why not combine my love of each, for better or worse, over the next few months! So yeah, these are my favorite comics I'm paying tribute to, with my favorite bands. If you haven't heard of either, go check them out! 00:00 - the Pomps - Resistance Grifter (Drums & Liars '19) 03:51 - ghost tones - Who Saved Who (Who Saved Who '20) 08:00 - BowCat - Catch 22 (Dangerously Close '20) 12:01 - Cosmic Shuffling - Eastern Ska (Eastern Ska / Western Ska '20) 14:51 - the Ladrones - Rudy's Voodoo (Salve '18) 20:06 - Burn It Up - the Zealot (Outlier '14) Visit the website at http://www.23Ska.com to find links to band websites and songs featured in this episode. I wish I could say that this episode is a trip down memory lane, that I'm just playing you all the cool shit I was into back in the late '90s, specifically the stuff from Stubborn Records... but alas, I ain't that cool. I don't know how Stubborn was such a blind spot to me for so long, but they were, and I really didn't start exploring their catalog until the mid-'00s. And man or man there was a wealth of fantastic stuff to find and listen to! Visit us at www.paranormalunderground.net to read Paranormal Underground magazine! In this episode of Paranormal Underground Radio: In The Dark, we talk with Lynn Russell, author of The Wonder of You: What the Near-Death Experience Tells You About Yourself. About 10 years ago, Lynn was researching material for a novel on NDERF (Near Death Experiences Research Foundation). She, like many people, was fascinated with the near-death phenomenon and enjoyed the chat group there. That was when Dr. Jeffery Long asked for a volunteer to do research for him, and Lynn agreed. After she had researched a couple hundred cases, she started to see hidden messages. After Lynn researched 2,500 NDEs, she decided the information was for everyone, thus she wrote the book, The Wonder of You: What the Near-Death Experience Tells You About Yourself. "Although there are many books written on NDEs, they either talk about one individual experience or present research on one aspect of the experience," said Lynn. "The Wonder of You: What the Near Death Experience Tells You About Yourself talks about a very wide range of experiences. It takes the reader through the different aspects of the experience, explains them in detail, and brings out the deep learning being brought back." The main thrust of Lynn's book is to show the reader what magnificent creatures they are and how they play an active role in the creation of all they know. The book looks at a bit of science, although not a lot. "I take a quick peek at how scientists are discovering a new paradigm for the cosmos," said Lynn. "It appears the universe is a hologram. So where does that leave us? We are One with the Loving Light NDErs talk about and are indeed amazing creatures." There are still a thousand questions, according to Lynn. "Every new understanding opens a door and 10 more questions come along with it," she said. "Human beings are curious creatures, and we don’t rest until we have our answers. We will continue to ask, probe, and study to find answers that will lead to new understanding and probably new questions." Air Date: August 27, 2015 Topic: Near-Death Experience, Paranormal Theory, Paranormal Investigation Guest: Lynn Russell Hosts: Karen Frazier and Chuck Gotski Producer: Cheryl Knight

Visit us at www.paranormalunderground.net to read Paranormal Underground magazine! In this episode of Paranormal Underground Radio: In The Dark, we talk with Jack Kenna of SPIRITS of New England and Rensselaer Paranormal Research. Jack grew up in an area rich in history, legends, and documented haunted graveyards, historical buildings, and revolutionary battlefields. Jack’s interest in the paranormal started at a very young age. This was driven by the fact that his mother had many experiences of her own, which she often relayed to him. The home he grew up in and now raises his family in also helped to peak his interest in the paranormal; in addition to his wife and their seven children, it is also home to what he refers to as a friendly spirit, which seems to keep an eye out for the family. In more recent years, his interest in the paranormal was rekindled by the TV series Ghost Hunters and the scientific investigation methods utilized by TAPS. These methods are very similar to the type of engineering and scientific methods that Jack has been using on a daily basis for the past 30-plus years in his career as a senior engineering technician and project leader for the Department of the Army. Beyond his technical expertise for the Army, Jack possesses video and audio skills from six years of running his own part-time videography business, as well as his computer and website design skills from seven years of running his own part-time computer repair, training, and Web design business. Since 2011, Jack has also been writing paranormal articles and stories for Paranormal Underground magazine as a regular contributor. Jack is also working on his first book about the investigations of S.P.I.R.I.T.S. of New England, and he was also recently filmed for the television show Paranormal Survivor.
