Alistair remembers his mother saying 'People who ask don't get.' Yet, he says, in Tibetan traditions asking for blessings is an act of devotion. This discussion with students centres on the differences between western attitudes and religion where prayer and asking are supreme spiritual activities. Can you ask for help or are you afraid of asking?

‘'People go to work every day with the aim of making a difference. However, structure and systems get in their way.'' Today, I am joined by Carolyn Swora, a certified Dare to Lead Facilitator and a personal resilience practitioner. She offers workshops and coaching sessions to organizations and leaders to help them get work barriers from their way. Tune in and listen to Carolyn give us an overview of resilience and how we can transform teams to work together in a healthy manner. How Can Carolyn Help Individuals? Carolyn says that she gives individuals an insight to make sense and find their way from the clouds. Especially during this period of COVID. The help does not come like magic, so one must be willing and want to lean on this work. Generally, she provides an insight that is relevant and practical to a specific individual. Carolyn's approach is that; If somebody doesn't want it, they don't want it, and there is nothing much she can do to change that because a lot is happening in people's lives. What Services Does Carol Offer? Currently, most of her work is corporate, providing different services and programs. These services revolve around courage, resilience, belonging, and creating a way to show up at work. This year, Carolyn plans to expand her offering to be more one-on-one group coaching specifically for women. The Future of Carolyn's Business Carolyn says that she is excited about moving forward with her business because many people are becoming open to this thinking. How Can an Organization Move Forward? Relationships are the glue that holds your organization together. Carolyn says that you do not have to spend hours in a workshop together for days; this can be done through little micro-moments throughout every single day at work. Inner Superpower To see a gift in people before they even see it themselves. Timestamps [00:40] What does Carolyn do? [02:51] How work has been during COVID [05:03] How can one get help? [07:36] Carol's work background [10:00] Understanding your “WHY” as an entrepreneur [20:20] Finding her path [22:10] General advice Quotes If we can start changing the power structures, they are going to serve everybody. We are not in control of many things and how we respond to events or business situations. You have to be courageous; you really have to embrace the notion of vulnerability. Believe in yourself, create a plan, build relationships. You never know where they can lead you. This week Steven talks to London Watch Show co-founder and creative director, Charles Groom, along with wellbeing entrepreneur and car collector, Tom Exton, about the power of passion assets, and how aspirational living keeps minds keen and hungry, and urges us on to do better in all areas of life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Passion assets generally cross-pollinate. Those who like the finer things in life, generally have a more aspirational portfolio, and are always on the look out for more. People aren't just interested in the luxury items themselves, but the story in life, of how these things are obtained. Passion assets aren't just about status. Items like this are valuable and secure investments, and tend to rise in value as time goes on. If people think you're doing well, then they'll be instantly curious about the path you took to get there. Success is attractive. BEST MOMENTS 'That could be the inspiration you need to start a business' 'In any market, when things grow, they always do have to have a correction' 'I found it insane how much people were spending, considering there was a global pandemic' 'People buy into success' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Charles Groom Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mrcharlesgroom/ Tom Exton - https://www.instagram.com/tge_ldnm/ ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. This week, Lucinda talks to HR advocate and co-founder of HR Independents, Ruth Cornish, about the challenges that HR professionals face when it comes to disciplinary hearings, and how to ensure that we remain compliant at all times in order to secure fair and balanced outcomes. Key Takeaways Always follow ACAS's guidelines whenever organisations do not have their own set structures and rulebooks, when it comes to disciplinaries. Always make sure that all parties are aware of the disciplinary policies in place. Clarify any facts or assumptions up front. If necessary, talk to the lead investigator concerned, and gain clarity on their role, and the outcome being sought. When calling a hearing, give adequate and correct notice to all parties. Disclose all relevant information, and be clear on who is chairing the meeting, and who will be present. After the hearing, listen to the chair's views on the case and the verdict being proposed. Agree on notes, and on the letter being sent to the employee to advise on the outcome. Be clear on the appeal process. This week, Colin is joined by international guest, Kessie Stevens, founder of Artis Solutions in Alberta, Canada, who discusses her journey through the world of safety in the workplace, why a more flexible approach is the future, and why awards do not necessarily reflect the real face of an organisation. KEY TAKEAWAYS Learning about safety is an ongoing pursuit. It begins with a spark of interest that grows and develops, driving us to want to know more and do better. In the new world of work, it's important to provide our people with a more flexible environment. We have spent so long in shaping a new way of working, it's unfair to expect that the world can simply go back to the less efficient methods it used to employ. Companies seem to want to be the best through awards and certification. But often, these forms of recognition do not tally with the actual way they operate and do not reflect the inner culture. BEST MOMENTS 'It's so important to have that flexibility' 'People are scrambling to find good safety people' 'Good health and safety is just good business' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Interesting Health & Safety Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/vn/podcast/the-interesting-health-safety-podcast/id1467771449 Kessie Stevens Twitter - https://twitter.com/kessiestevens?lang=en-gb Artis Solutions - https://artissolutions.ca/our-team/ ABOUT THE HOST Colin Nottage ‘Making health and safety as important as everything else we do.' In this episode of Influencers Radio, Jack talks with Style Expert Dina Cerchione.Hollywood stylist Dina Cerchione is one of the busiest in town. She's been making people look great on and off camera for over 25 years. With shows such as America's Got Talent, Deal or No Deal and Beat Shazam, her styling finesse has refined the look of thousands—celebs and “real people” alike.Dina's style philosophy is the same for both men and women. “Personal style is more important than fashion. Keep it simple, make it your own, and choose accent pieces wisely.”Dina's passion for style started at an early age when she didn't look like all the other girls. “They were all wearing skinny designer jeans and Candies shoes, and that simply didn't work for me and my Italian curves! I wanted a way to stand out and look great, so I discovered using clothes in a way that accentuated and worked with my body, not against it.”Now she works that same magic for others. When working with clients, Dina takes her styling cues from the personalities of the people she dresses. Her goal is to always make clients look and feel their best, for whatever THEIR life looks like, not a life that they don't lead. She helps clients define their own personal style rather than just choose another off-the-rack trend. So if the time has come to reinvent yourself, Dina can make even the “fashion challenged” feel like a million bucks without having to spend a million bucks. To learn more about Dina Cerchione, visit https://dmcstyles.comConnect with Dina on social media at:https://instagram.com/dmcstyleshttps://facebook.com/dina.cerchioneListen to the full episode - https://influencersradio.com/dina-cerchione
Cincinnati restauranteur and bar owner Bob Deck, a managing partner at Four Entertainment Group, joined The Enquirer's That's So Cincinnati podcast this week to chat about: Jeff Ruby's impact on Deck's career 4EG's role in the revitalization of Downtown and Over-the-Rhine The struggles of being a bar and restaurant owner during a pandemic Expansion, including opening the Ernest Hemingway-inspired bar, Pilar, soon at the Court Street Plaza Four Entertainment Group launched about 15 years ago, around the time 3CDC was beginning its work to redevelopment Over-the-Rhine. The group has 18 bars restaurants in Cincinnati, Covington, Columbus and Chicago. It's notable Greater Cincinnati brands include: Igby's in Downtown, The Lackman in Over-the-Rhine and Keystone in Covington and Clifton. As a young adult, Deck, who grew up in Anderson Township, parked cars at Jeff Ruby's Waterfront restaurant. Deck enjoyed the experience of working in the restaurant business. He initially pursued a career as a chiropractor after graduating from Miami University, but Deck and some friends got together to start 4EG. Deck has never forgotten what some call the "Jeff Ruby experience" – it's all about impeccable customer service and making the customer feel special during their entire visit to one of Ruby's steakhouses. "It was just amazing to watch how he would always take care of people and want all of his employees to take care of people," Deck said. "From the moment you pull your car up with the valet until you're experience inside, that was what they took pride on and have continued to this day."
This week, Steven talks to Scotty Stacks, one third of South London rap trio, The Manor, about the effects of the pandemic upon the arts, how he and the band have developed an entirely new business model in the wake of the disruption, and why you should never judge a book by its cover when it comes to making your mind up about people or places. KEY TAKEAWAYS COVID has devastated the music industry, and left many aspiring artists in desperate need of a lifeline in order to survive financially. The re-opening of the country will see an explosion in the creative arts. The music business is heavily skewed to favour established, larger artists. If new artists can be seen as start-up businesses, the monetisation side of streaming and digital means that the returns are not practical. Just because people don't talk with a specific accent, or come from a certain place, you should never discount the beauty of their soul, or their potential for greatness. There seems to be a shame associated with people who want better things for themselves, but why wouldn't you? Never be ashamed of wanting more. We would be finishing up our Pre-capping project for the D+ show Loki, but alas, Disney stopped returning our calls and refused to delay the show while DadPodz went on vacation. Do you know how long it has been since we had a vacation? We got to get behind the wheel and hit the open road. It was such a joyous experience we did not even need to threaten children with the 'I will turn this car around' or 'Don't make me come back there.' But we did sprinkle a few gems from the driver's seat like 'Wake me up when we get there,' or when passing cemetery 'People are just dying to get into that place.' But we digress. This episode is a recap of the entire Loki show. It's great! @LokiOfficial @michaelwaldron @iamkateherron @disneyplus

This week, join Lee for a highly personal reflection upon the third anniversary of one of life's more momentous events - one that shaped Lee's future forever after. KEY TAKEAWAYS By pretending to be something we're not, we only ever hold ourself up to unhappiness. We can't be truly fulfilled in life unless we're living on our own terms. The best friends in life are the ones who'll be there when you need them. But friendship is a two way street. You also need to be the friend they need in times of trouble. We need to create environments and avenues for people, so that they can share when they are not feeling at their best. BEST MOMENTS 'The last three years have arguably been the most transformational' 'I have tried to be the kind of person that other people would want me to be' 'Make good friends, because you never know when you'll need them' 'People - that's the secret to everything we do' VALUABLE RESOURCES Business Problems Solved Podcast ABOUT THE HOST For the last 15 years, I have been a multi-sector internal or external business improvement consultant, building the improved capability of individuals, teams and businesses. Los Angeles County — America's most populous county — recently recommended mask wearing even for vaccinated people, just two weeks after the state relaxed most COVID restrictions. County officials say masks will help protect unvaccinated people from the more transmissible delta variant, which is spreading rapidly across the country. CDC director Rochelle Walensky tells NPR the federal government may "encourage" states to return to more mitigation measures in places where vaccination is low and the delta variant is driving cases up. That describes the situation in Missouri. Rebecca Smith with member station KBIA reports from Columbia. Amanda Ervin and Jimmy Lierow are on a mission to represent the marginalized plus-size community in the travel industry. They're also passionate about encouraging these individuals that they, too, can travel — regardless of their physical size. The charismatic couple met in 2014 and quickly discovered a shared passion for travel. (They even embarked on an international cruise together after dating for just three months). While still working full-jobs outside of the travel industry, they launched YouTube channel Chubby and Away, which chronicles their extensive trips around the world. One such trip is a yearlong, adventure-packed stint in Asia — a place they have lovingly nicknamed “The Land of Tiny People.” The duo also hosts a podcast called The PudgeCast, which offers travel tips and interviews with other travelers, all with an emphasis on plus-size travel. Last but not least, they recently opened their own travel agency, The Chubby & Away Travel Agency, in December 2019. In this Humans of Travel episode, Ervin and Lierow explain that they prioritize inclusivity as well as good health — and want people to feel comfortable in their own skin. The two also offer tips on how the industry can do better in serving the plus-size travel segment, and share examples of a few notable suppliers that are already demonstrating great service. This week, Lee talks to fellow podcaster, Martin Teasdale, the voice behind the Get Out Of Wrap podcast and one of the most experienced contact centre operators ever, about the background in life that gave him the skills to strike up an instant rapport, the power of "JFDI", and what really goes on behind that voice on the end of the line... KEY TAKEAWAYS The military lifestyle, of constantly being on the move and making new friends, while often seen as a negative, actually instilled in Martin the gift of being able to quickly strike up rapport with people. Teams are often a reflection of society as a whole. You can find representatives of youth, education, the older generations, part-time workers and even those with a high level of experience. People calling into contact centres are generally not calling for fun. They always call with a purpose. They have a need. Sometimes, we must put aside our own feelings and tribulations, and engage empathetically, which can be tough. Whenever we face down a challenge, we must remember that the pain is temporary, and that all things will pass. Push through and the challenge will be little more than a memory before long. This week, Steven has an empowering discussion with Chloe McNiven, a professional dancer and entrepreneur, about the ways in which she rose from the ashes during the devastating effects of the pandemic, and found a new path in life when all seemed closed to her. Chloe is the epitome of someone who takes a negative and turns it into a positive, and has it her mission to help others and do good in the world. In this week's show, Chloe tells you all about how and why it's the way forward for everybody. KEY TAKEAWAYS We take inspiration from those who do astounding things. In turn, we provide inspiration to those who need it. It's a chain reaction that helps others to get through the tough times. When challenge strikes, we all have a choice. We can let it beat us, or we can rise to face it. In that moment, the person you become is the authentic you. All we can ever hope for in life, is the opportunity to do good, to be the best we can be, and to serve others. This is the guaranteed formula for happiness. Pain is never a bad thing. And what can we do to help?In this urgent episode of “The Marc Steiner Show,” spanning three continents, we bring you firsthand reports of the unfolding catastrophes in India and Brazil from guests who are living through them. Marc is joined by journalist and activist Ansab Amir, who is based in Aligarh, India, and multimedia journalist, radio reporter, documentary filmmaker, and TRNN contributor Mike Fox, who is based in Florianópolis, Brazil.Tune in for new episodes of The Marc Steiner Show every Tuesday on TRNN.

Bills under consideration in dozens of states target trans youth by focusing on two things: health care and sports. Some bills have already become law in states including South Dakota, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama. One of the harshest measures is an Alabama, where a bill would make it a felony to provide gender-affirming therapy to anyone under the age of 19. NPR's Melissa Block reports on what that would mean for one trans teenager and his family. University of Pittsburgh professor Jules Gill-Peterson explains what she's uncovered about the history of trans youth in America. She is the author of Histories of the Transgender Child. In participating regions, you'll also hear from local journalists about what's happening in your community.Email us at considerthis@npr.org.
