And it's the world we still live in. Christmas isn't the promise of a perfect life; it's the announcement that God stepped into a broken one. Paul describes the tension of following Jesus as “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing.” That's Christmas. Real life, real pain, real joy, real hope. Jesus doesn't wait for your life to look ideal. He comes into the life you really have. And he gives you a joy that circumstances can't create or take away. This week, fix your eyes on what is unseen—on him.

Alan Davies is known for his natural, relatable storytelling skills across the page, the stage, and the screen. The comedian is a staple of British television, with roles on the long-running ‘Jonathan Creek' and popular comedy panel show ‘QI'. It's been more than a decade since Davies last did a stand-up tour, but he's happy to report it's going well. “It had been so long that it was feeling, beginning to feel like a gamble,” he told Jack Tame. “I spent some time unpacking stuff from my childhood, doing a, writing about it, and that process took a while and changed a lot of how I viewed myself, and what I wanted to do, and what I wanted to say. When the song isn't working, it's time to change it. Labels are for soup cans, not people. Stop treating negative self-talk as gospel. Begin by identifying the label you've put on yourself that's harming you. When it's hard to see a harmful label, use times of either reflection or agitation to help surface it. Find the internal evidence for this label and record what confirms this belief and also what challenges it. If that's hard, invite someone else (a partner, friend, or therapist) to help you see it more objectively. Evolve by creating a new mantra for who you are becoming. If it doesn't seem doable today, ask yourself if you can envision it being true in the future.
