High in the misty forests of North Bengal and Northeast India, a quiet conservation movement is unfolding around one of the world's most charismatic yet misunderstood mammals — the red panda. In this episode of the Think Wildlife Podcast, host Anish Banerjee speaks with young conservationist Aamir Khan Sohel, whose pioneering work bridges red panda conservation breeding, community-led conservation, and the power of science communication through his initiative, Translating Conservation.Aamir's journey began unconventionally — from engineering to ecology — driven by a desire to use technology to aid conservation. He recounts how he was drawn to the red panda, a species native to the Eastern Himalayas and an important indicator of ecosystem health. Through his project in Darjeeling, he studies red panda behavior, welfare, and reintroduction success within India's first red panda conservation breeding program, initiated at the Darjeeling Zoo in collaboration with the Government of India and international partners. The episode delves into the fascinating world of red panda conservation breeding — how scientists train captive individuals to survive in the wild, teaching them essential behaviors like foraging and predator avoidance before their release into protected areas such as Singalila and Neora Valley National Parks. Aamir explains the scientific and logistical hurdles in bridging captive and wild populations, the reasons behind long gaps between reintroductions, and how welfare-based behavioral studies are improving the outcomes of conservation breeding programs.Beyond the lab and breeding centers, the conversation explores the human dimensions of biodiversity conservation. Aamir's community-led conservation model empowers local residents to become long-term wildlife monitors by combining traditional knowledge with scientific training. These community guardians help track red panda populations across the mountainous terrain, offering valuable insights into how climate change, tourism, and habitat degradation affect this elusive species and the broader Himalayan biodiversity hotspot. He highlights the major threats facing red pandas — including biodiversity loss, habitat fragmentation, bamboo depletion, and the growing menace of feral dogs in high-altitude forests. Climate warming is altering microhabitats and pushing red pandas higher up the mountains, making long-term monitoring even more essential for conservation success.Aamir also introduces Translating Conservation, his innovative science outreach platform that breaks down complex ecological research into accessible content — from simplified articles to comics and animations — ensuring conservation knowledge reaches local communities and the general public. For Aamir, translating conservation is not just about communication but about inclusion — enabling everyone to participate in protecting India's rich biodiversity. From funding challenges to field hardships, his story reflects the persistence and creativity required to conserve one of the most threatened species of the Himalayas. His upcoming research, supported by the University of Adelaide, aims to expand this model of collaborative, community-based conservation across North Bengal and the broader Northeast India landscape. This episode offers a heartfelt and deeply insightful look at how science, empathy, and local stewardship come together to safeguard the red panda — a symbol of balance in fragile mountain ecosystems.About the HostAnish Banerjee is an early career ecologist, with a MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation from Imperial College London. This episode of Sell With Authority is part of our special series exploring one of the most vital dynamics inside every agency's sales process: trust and distrust. You've been hearing from agency leaders who are leaning into this issue head-on. These conversations are not only timely — they're also forming the research foundation for my next book, The Trust Architecture, and a new series of Field Guides we'll be sharing with our community. As we've seen time and again from our work alongside agency owners and their teams — trust, or the lack of it, is often the biggest obstacle to having a sales pipeline that feels like a steady stream of right-fit prospects flowing into your agency. Which makes today's conversation a perfect fit for this series. Our special guest expert is Jerry Gennaria, President and CEO of TOKY. Jerry brings more than 30 years of experience helping professional service firms tell their story more effectively, build stronger businesses, and reach their full potential. He's also the host of The Intangible Brand podcast — where he explores what brand really means beyond the surface-level tactics. Here's why Jerry's perspective matters so much for this series… In a recent LinkedIn post, he made an incredibly sharp observation — when Southwest Airlines cut away the very things customers loved most about their experience, it wasn't just a rebrand. A brand isn't just graphics or identity — it's about who you are internally and how customers experience you externally. When you change that alignment — you break trust. That ties directly to what we saw in the 2025 Edelman Trust Barometer — when trust erodes, grievance and frustration take over — but when trust grows, optimism and loyalty follow. That's exactly the kind of work Jerry and his team at TOKY do every day — helping clients align their brand and their actions so that trust is reinforced at every single touchpoint. When your agency's brand and your actions are aligned — trust isn't an abstract idea. It's felt — in every interaction, every proposal, every conversation. When trust is felt at every touchpoint — selling more of what you do stops being about persuasion — and starts being about consistency. That's why we wanted Jerry's perspective to be part of this series. When I say we — I mean Hannah Roth, our Director of Strategy and Mad Scientist, is here with me for this conversation to bring her data-driven perspective into this discussion with Jerry — because when you combine brand alignment with real-world strategy — that's when trust becomes measurable and scalable. What you will learn in this episode: How to make prospects feel seen — and why that matters for conversion Jerry's "brand is a promise delivered" philosophy for agencies The art and science of pushing back — and how it earns deep respect from right-fit clients Why authentic storytelling aligned with your brand delivers exponential results Ways to boldly show your expertise without being self-aggrandizing Why trust is not built in the big gestures Resources: Website: toky.com LinkedIn Personal: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gennaria/ The Intangible Brand: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-intangible-brand/ TOKY: https://www.linkedin.com/company/toky-branding/ The Intangible Brand Podcast: www.theintangiblebrand.com
Episode OverviewIn this rich, sensory journey through the Eternal City, I sit down with food historian, author, and Rome expert Katie Parla, a woman whose love affair with Rome began at sixteen thanks to her mother's quiet act of generosity. What started as a high school Latin club trip became a lifelong devotion to understanding the flavors, history, and soul of a city that was never meant to exist. Rome began as a malarial, snake-infested swamp, yet somehow became the beating heart of Western civilization.Katie has written, edited, or contributed to more than twenty books and countless articles in publications like The New York Times, Vogue, and The Guardian. Her newest work, Rome: A Culinary History Cookbook and Field Guide to the Flavors That Built a City, is not just another recipe collection. It's a layered love letter, part history book, part field guide, and part emotional map to the spirit of a city that has endured famine, fire, empire, and rebirth. Together, we explore what Rome can teach us about leadership, gratitude, and the art of being human in an age of acceleration. We begin where all gratitude stories begin, at the table. Katie gives thanks to her mother, “Jojo,” who worked multiple jobs to make that first trip to Rome possible. Through her mother's sacrifice, Katie learned the essence of perseverance, the same relentless spirit that built the city she now calls home. From there, we wander through the neighborhoods of Rome, from the ancient core to the medieval center, and finally to Testaccio, her favorite district, where modern graffiti meets ancient terracotta ruins. It's there that Katie goes to meditate on impermanence and the balance between chaos and beauty. As our conversation unfolds, history becomes a mirror for modern leadership. We talk about Rome's “bread and circuses,” how the government once used food and entertainment to keep citizens loyal, and we draw parallels to today's corporate perks and engagement programs. We explore the emperors of old and the executives of now, and what it means to “be a Caesar, not an Augustus,” a leader who serves with benevolence and dignity rather than domination and fear. We even touch on the city's engineering genius, from the 2,700 nasoni fountains that keep Romans hydrated to the grain ships that once fed an empire. Every system, every aqueduct, every loaf of bread carried a lesson about sustaining people, not just power. But Rome's real brilliance lies in its contradictions, what I call the “and” mindset. It's a city of war and peace, tragedy and triumph, speed and stillness. It forces us to hold two opposing truths at once: to hate what was violent and love what was beautiful, to accept the brokenness and still celebrate the feast. In our current age of AI and instant answers, Rome reminds us of the value of friction, imperfection, and effort. We wander next into the Roman Forum, where citizens once gathered to argue, trade, eat, and bear witness. It was the original “third place” between home and work, the birthplace of civic belonging, a space for conversation and connection. Katie draws a line from the Forum to today's trattorias and pizza-by-the-slice counters, where people stand shoulder to shoulder, talking to strangers, sipping espresso, or sharing a quick lunch of supplì or cacio e pepe. These are the modern temples of togetherness. Then comes the food. Not just the postcard dishes of carbonara and amatriciana, but the soulful, often forgotten recipes of Rome's working class: chicken gizzards with fettuccine, veal intestines simmered in tomato sauce, and involtini, rolled beef stuffed with prosciutto, carrots, and celery, cooked slowly until tender. Katie calls it “one pot, two dishes,” a metaphor for efficiency and abundance at once. Her approach to cooking, and to life, can be summed up in three simple words: just enough.By the end of our conversation, one theme rises above all others: dignity. From her mother's resilience to the humble Roman bakers who built an empire on grain, from the laborers who carved aqueducts to the chefs who open their kitchens to curious foreigners, Katie's gratitude is for everyone who never gave up. “Leave so much time in Rome unplanned,” she says, “and dare to have an adventure.” It's not just travel advice, it's a philosophy for life. Reflections and TakeawaysRome, like gratitude, is a practice. It reminds us to slow down, to see the sacred in the mundane, and to find beauty in imperfection. Leadership, whether in the Senate or the boardroom, is about giving people both challenge and dignity. Progress and empathy are not opposites, they are partners.Katie's story reminds us that effort is its own art form. Whether you're simmering a pot of cacciatore or steering a company through uncertainty, the recipe is the same: patience, precision, and a dash of love. The lesson of Rome is the lesson of humanity, that endurance, generosity, and curiosity will always outlast convenience. In this episode of the Think Wildlife Podcast, we speak with Ishan Shanavas — a nature photographer, author, and founder of EcoInspire, an environmental education initiative that has already reached over 20,000 students across 70 schools in five Indian states. Through engaging storytelling, dynamic school sessions, and vivid wildlife photography, Ishan is helping shape how young people understand and appreciate biodiversity and the natural world.Growing up on road trips through the Bandipur Tiger Reserve and studying at a school nestled in the forests of Andhra Pradesh, Ishan's early experiences surrounded by wildlife sparked his lifelong passion for conservation. His bestselling book The Lighter Wilder Things became the foundation for Mission EcoInspire, a project dedicated to promoting biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness among students. Realizing that online conservation messages often remain confined to a small, like-minded audience, Ishan set out to bring these conversations directly into classrooms. His approach emphasizes the need for early biodiversity education and environmental education as essential tools to nurture empathy, understanding, and curiosity about wildlife and ecosystems. In the episode, Ishan discusses the origins of his conservation journey and the goals of EcoInspire. He reflects on the power of face-to-face interaction in conservation outreach and conservation education, sharing how simple, accessible communication can inspire students to take interest in biodiversity management and wildlife conservation. He explains how schools across cities like Bangalore, Mysore, Trivandrum, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Gulbarga have welcomed his sessions, with both teachers and students showing overwhelming enthusiasm. The program's success demonstrates that hands-on environmental engagement remains one of the most effective ways to build lasting connections with nature.Ishan also explores the role of social media in spreading environmental awareness. He highlights how platforms can amplify meaningful conservation stories when used responsibly, but also cautions against misinformation and sensationalism. He shares valuable advice for conservationists aiming to improve their communication — simplifying complex topics, avoiding technical jargon, and using creativity, humor, and visual storytelling to reach wider audiences. He mentions innovative communicators like Rohan Chakravarti (Green Humor) and the Dhole Project in Kerala, both of whom effectively use art and media to connect people with Indian biodiversity. The discussion underscores that conservation is not just about protecting species but about building emotional and cultural bridges between people and nature. Ishan's message is clear: the success of wildlife conservation and biodiversity management depends on reaching beyond scientific circles and inspiring collective action. Through EcoInspire, he is demonstrating how passionate individuals can make conservation accessible, engaging, and relevant to younger generations.By sharing his journey, Ishan shows that the heart of biodiversity conservation lies in empathy, education, and communication. Whether through a classroom presentation, a book, or a digital post, his work reminds us that protecting India's natural heritage requires inspiring the minds and hearts of those who will shape its future.Tune in to learn how one individual's commitment to conservation outreach and environmental education is inspiring thousands of young Indians to rediscover their connection with wildlife and work toward a sustainable future.About the HostAnish Banerjee is an early career ecologist, with a MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation from Imperial College London. Today's episode is part of our special series exploring one of the most vital dynamics inside every agency's sales process: trust and distrust. Over the coming weeks, you'll hear from agency leaders who are leaning into this issue head-on. These conversations are not only timely — they're also forming the research foundation for my next book, The Trust Architecture, and a new series of Field Guides we'll be sharing with our community. Here at Predictive ROI, we help agencies sell more of what they do. And time and again, from our work alongside agency owners and their teams, we've seen that trust — or the lack of it — is the biggest variable determining whether your pipeline flows like a steady stream of right-fit prospects… or grinds to a halt. When trust is present — momentum builds. When trust is absent — friction takes over. Which makes today's conversation a perfect fit for this series. Our special guest expert is Darren Magarro, Founder and President of DSM. Since launching DSM in 2007, Darren has led his agency through the ups, downs, twists, and turns that every agency owner knows too well. But what truly sets him apart is how he leads. Darren's people-first, community-centered approach is at the heart of how DSM builds trust. He works tirelessly to put others on a path to success — and that shows up in every corner of his business. When trust increases — optimism replaces grievance — and people shift from frustration to future-focused hope. Darren's leadership embodies that shift. What you will learn in this episode: The rock solid data that proves why "people-first" and community-centered leadership is now the must-have ingredient for agencies that want to build real trust How Darren's approach to leadership at DSM turns transparency and empathy into a competitive business advantage Why budget qualification must happen early The three-step biz dev process that weeds out bad fits so you can focus on dream clients Why client stories, tough conversations, and owning mistakes can translate directly into agency resilience and reputation Candid advice for agency owners who want their team and clients to be truly optimistic about the future Why your LinkedIn content should be more helpful Resources: Website: https://thedsmgroup.com/ LinkedIn Personal: https://www.linkedin.com/in/darrenmagarro/ LinkedIn Business: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-dsm-group/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDSMGroup Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedsmgroup

In this episode of the Think Wildlife Podcast, we are joined by Etelle Higonnet, founder of Coffee Watch, a nonprofit watchdog organization dedicated to the proposition that we should make the world a better place with each cup of coffee. We uncover the hidden environmental and social costs of the global coffee industry — from deforestation and ecosystem degradation to human rights violations in coffee plantations in tropical landscapes around the world, with a focus on the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot!Once covered in dense tropical forests, the Western Ghats are now dominated by sprawling coffee plantations and monoculture plantations that have drastically altered the landscape. Our guest explores how the expansion of coffee production — driven by global demand — has replaced rich forest ecosystems with uniform monocultures, stripping away the region's ecological resilience. The shift from traditional shade-grown systems to sun-grown monocultures has disrupted soil health, eliminated natural canopy cover, and endangered pollinators, birds, and mammals that once thrived in these biodiversity-rich ecosystems. We dive deep into the link between coffee plantations and human–elephant conflict. As forest corridors shrink and elephants lose access to their migratory routes, they are forced into human settlements, resulting in tragic encounters that claim both human and animal lives. These conflicts reveal how unsustainable land use, habitat fragmentation, and poor biodiversity management intensify tensions between people and wildlife across the Western Ghats. The conversation also exposes the human dimension of the coffee industry — from exploitative labor practices to widespread human rights abuses. Behind the global demand for coffee lies a system where workers, many from marginalized communities, face poor wages, long working hours, and limited access to healthcare and education. These persistent human rights violations highlight how plantation economies, often celebrated for sustainability branding, continue to mask deep social inequities.Despite these challenges, the episode highlights pathways toward hope and reform through agroforestry and sustainable farming models. Traditional shade-grown coffee — where native trees coexist with coffee shrubs — demonstrates that economic production and biodiversity preservation can go hand in hand. Agroforestry practices support soil fertility, regulate microclimates, and restore ecological corridors, offering a viable alternative to monoculture plantations. They also provide co-benefits for farmers by diversifying income sources and improving resilience to climate change. Our guest calls for systemic change within global coffee supply chains — emphasizing ethical sourcing, fair trade, and transparency from farm to consumer. Protecting the biodiversity of the Western Ghats requires not only reforesting degraded lands but also addressing the social injustices embedded within plantation economies. Sustainable solutions must integrate ecological restoration with social equity, ensuring that conservation uplifts both people and nature. This episode challenges listeners to look beyond the aroma of their morning brew and consider its true cost. It's a deep dive into how the pursuit of profit in the coffee industry has reshaped tropical forests, threatened biodiversity, and violated human rights, and how agroforestry and community-driven conservation can chart a more ethical, sustainable future for both the planet and its people.About the HostAnish Banerjee is an early career ecologist, with a MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation from Imperial College London. Today's episode is part of our special series exploring one of the most critical — and sometimes challenging — dynamics inside the agency sales process: trust and distrust. Over the coming weeks, you'll hear from agency leaders who are leaning into this issue — sharing real stories, lessons learned, and how they're building trust at every stage of their business development journey. These conversations are more than just episodes. They're also shaping the research foundation for our next book, The Trust Architecture, and for a set of Field Guides we'll be sharing with our community soon. If you've been listening to the show for a while, you know that at Predictive ROI, we help agencies sell more of what they do. And what we've seen time and again — across hundreds of agencies — is that trust, or the lack of it, is often the single biggest factor determining whether your sales pipeline flows or stalls. When trust is present — conversations feel easy, opportunities open up, and right-fit prospects move forward. But when trust is missing — friction builds, uncertainty creeps in, and momentum disappears. That's exactly why today's conversation is such a great fit for this series. Our special guest expert is Lyndsey Maddox, CEO of Digital Third Coast, a digital marketing agency founded in 2007 with a mission to make a measurable difference. Lyndsey joined the agency back in 2009 and has played just about every role on her way to the CEO seat. Along the way, she discovered her passion for helping clients win new business by being found at the exact right moment. For Lyndsey, good marketing isn't about what you spend or where you place it — it's about what you get in return. She understands how visibility and credibility intersect — and how the right strategies can transform expertise into influence and trust into measurable growth. I'm also joined by my colleague and co-host, Hannah Roth, our Director of Strategy and resident Mad Scientist here at Predictive. Hannah works in the trenches every day alongside our clients — helping them build trust at scale — and she leads all of our experiments inside the Predictive Lab. What starts as a curiosity, a light on the bedroom ceiling that seems to have no source, heralds the appearance of a huge eye that just watches and watches. Genre: Mystery, Science Fiction, Horror Excerpt: I yelled out. The hazel iris shifted toward me. I slowly slid off the bed... dashed to the door, flung it open, and pulled it closed behind me. Okay, okay, think. I have to… I had cried out. Someone must have heard. Someone would come knocking on my door. Normally I didn't want that. But right now, right now I might want that. I might want that. What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Each Season 8 episode is a standalone story, but it's connected to or inspired by a previous story through a character, a place, an object, a concept, a continuation of events (ahem, sequel), and so on. A previous story about an organ growing in the walls of someone's bedroom is “Chemoimagination.” Creepy coincidence? One night, after I posted this story, I'd plugged in a mini-fan to charge next to my bed. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a glowing green eye on my ceiling. The fan had finished charging, and the indicator light happened to be facing up to the ceiling. And it happened to be the same shape and size of the eye I describe in my story. It didn't scare me. I immediately knew what I was. But I did sleepily think something akin to “heh, good one.” MY FIRST BOOK (yay)Ever wonder how I've gotten all these hundreds of stories written? I have a method. Across Asia, nearly one in three elephants lives in captivity—used in temples, tourism, logging, and religious festivals. In this powerful episode of the Think Wildlife Podcast, Canadian photographer and elephant conservation advocate Larry Laverty joins host Anish Banerjee to shed light on the suffering of captive elephants and the urgent need for elephant conservation across both Asia and Africa.Larry Laverty's remarkable journey began with his first book Power and Majesty, which documented the African elephant and exposed the brutal realities of the ivory trade and wildlife crime driving their decline. Traveling across ten African countries, he captured the spirit of wild elephants and the people striving to protect them. His second book, The Majestic Humanity and the Asian Elephant, turns the lens toward Asian elephants, revealing how centuries of human use—from temple elephants to those exploited in logging and tourism—have shaped their tragic fate.In this conversation, Larry explains how his camera became a tool of empathy and activism. Through conservation photography, he documents not just the beauty but the suffering of elephants—images that demand global attention to animal welfare, animal rights, and the moral questions surrounding captive elephants. He recalls heartbreaking encounters, including a baby elephant orphaned during illegal logging, and discusses the cruel realities behind elephant rides and festival processions. The discussion also highlights promising alternatives like robotic elephants being introduced in India's temples, offering a humane replacement for live elephants used in ceremonies. Larry shares how he personally contributed funds for one such robotic elephant, symbolizing a new era of compassionate conservation that honors culture without perpetuating animal abuses. The episode explores deeper cultural, ecological, and ethical contrasts between African and Asian elephant conservation. While African elephants remain largely wild, human-elephant relationships in Asia stretch back nearly 5,000 years, complicating efforts to end captivity. Larry emphasizes that saving elephants means reimagining this bond—through education, empathy, and stronger laws against illegal wildlife trade, ivory trafficking, and elephant poaching. He also discusses the potential for rewilding captive elephants, citing encouraging examples from Laos where rescued elephants are gradually returned to the wild. Yet, he warns that without stronger land protection and political will, true freedom for these elephants remains a distant dream. This episode is a tribute to elephants—creatures of immense intelligence and empathy—and to those fighting to protect them. It's also a call to listeners to act: avoid elephant rides, support ethical sanctuaries, advocate for animal welfare laws, and amplify the voices working to end exploitation.Larry Laverty's words remind us that elephant conservation is more than protecting a species—it's about redefining humanity's relationship with nature. By choosing empathy over entertainment and awareness over ignorance, we can help ensure that elephants, whether African or Asian, live the lives they were meant to—wild and free.Watch now to explore the untold stories behind captive elephants, the courage of photographers on the frontlines of conservation, and the hope that drives global efforts to protect these majestic beings.About the HostAnish Banerjee is an early career ecologist, with a MSc in Ecology, Evolution and Conservation from Imperial College London. I am super excited about today's episode of Sell With Authority — it's a really special one. We're kicking off a brand-new series we're creating here on the show. Over the next several weeks, you're going to hear from agency leaders who will share their insights and experiences around one of the most pressing issues in biz dev today: trust and distrust — and how both shape the agency sales process. If you've been part of our community for a while, you know that everything we do at Predictive centers on helping agencies sell more of what they do for a higher fee. And what we've seen, time and again, is that trust — or the lack of it — makes or breaks your sales pipeline. When trust is present, your pipeline flows. When it's absent, friction builds, momentum stalls — and opportunities slip away. This special series will dig deep into that dynamic. The conversations you'll hear will form the foundation for my next book, The Trust Architecture — along with a set of new Field Guides we'll be sharing with our community. If you stick with us through this series, you'll get an inside look at the strategic insights, lessons, and stories that will shape that work. Today's conversation is the perfect place to begin. Our guest expert is Michelle Calcote King, Founder of Reputation Ink — a national PR and marketing agency that helps professional services firms turn expertise into influence. Michelle and her team work every day in industries where trust and credibility aren't optional. That's what makes her perspective the perfect starting point for this series. She has built a business around translating complex expertise into stories that build trust, spark credibility, and drive growth — and she's sharing her playbook with us. What you will learn in this episode: Why trust — or the lack of it — impacts every stage of the agency sales process Why industry specialization accelerates credibility How to remove friction and earn access to client subject matter experts The secret power of an authoritative newsletter in your niche The reality behind a successful biz dev system — you've got to eat your own dog food How to build relationships and trust through intentional, helpful marketing Resources: Website: www.rep-ink.com LinkedIn Personal: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michellecking/ LinkedIn Business: https://www.linkedin.com/company/reputation-ink/
Send us a textRobert Hansen has worn a lot of hats in the herp world — editor, author, educator, field naturalist, and lifelong advocate for science communication. For years he served as Editor-in-Chief of Herpetological Review, shaping the way our community shares its discoveries, and is now one of the creators of the recent, amazing, field guide, California Amphibians and Reptiles, co-authored with Jackson Shedd - and there's a new, bigger, even more ambitious field guide on the way!In this episode, we talk about the art and science of making field guides truly usable; from design and detail to accessibility, even down to color choices for range maps and why they're more important than you realize. We dive into the changing face of herpetology, the importance of clear communication, and how decades in education shaped Bob's approach to both writing and educating. We also explore his long-running study of elevation transects in the Eastern Sierra and what long-term data can teach us that short studies can't, his philosophy on photographing herps, and his work on a near-future book that goes beyond California, and captures the Western US and Canada. And of course, it wouldn't be Wood Fired Herping without a little food, this time, in between gas station hot dogs and Mexican street food, it's brook trout, cooked on the banks of a creek in the mountains of Eastern California, with rice-a-roni and a surprise bottle of wine.Whether you're an old-school field herper, a new enthusiast, or someone who just loves the intersection of science and storytelling, this one's a warm and grounded conversation about legacy, curiosity, and what keeps us going back into the field.

Eric Wareheim is an actor, director, winemaker, and writer based in Los Angeles. You may know him as one half of the comedy duo behind the cult-followed Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, but in recent years, he's been making a foray into food and wine, starting with the New York Times Best Seller cookbook Foodheim. His new book, Steak House, chronicles his freewheeling, exhaustive search for the ultimate steak house. It's a heady mix of recipes, interviews with legendary servers, and his own very funny essays—and today on the show, we go deep on his steak house fixation and reporting process. And, at the top of the show, it's the return of Three Things, where Aliza and Matt talk about what is exciting them in the world of restaurants, cookbooks, and the food world as a whole. On this episode: The Great Community Bake Sale is New York's big weekend event, Katie Parla has a very cool new book out, Rome: A Culinary History, Cookbook, and Field Guide to the Flavors that Built a City, it's soup season and Andy Baraghani's Golden Potato and Greens Soup is a great option. Also, a recap from the fun Los Angeles Chef's Conference, a visit to the Tiny Dollhouse Store, and Matt is heading to Korea. Surely, a beautiful old house sold at a bargain must have a sinister history. One new homeowner is about to find out. Genre: Horror, Mystery Excerpt: “If afterlife spirits are real, they're real whether I believe in them or not.” I shrugged. “And if they're real, I'd rather not stir them up.” “So…she felt something?” “She said the place had a weird energy.” “What does that mean?” I shook my head. “Frustrated….” What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Each Season 8 episode is a standalone story, but it's connected to or inspired by a previous story through a character, a place, an object, a concept, a continuation of events (ahem, sequel), and so on. This story is not the first one I've written about houses with links to the otherworldly (or about potentially reckless bargains with forces that one does not understand). It's predecessor is “Mausefalle Manor.” MY FIRST BOOK (yay)Ever wonder how I've gotten all these hundreds of stories written? I have a method. And I talk all about it in my book called Fictioneer's Field Guide: A Game Plan for Writing Short Stories. It's now available from Amazon as an eBook, paperback, and hardcover. You can also get there from my Store page: STORYFEATHER STORE The Store page also has sign-up forms for my two email newsletters: Storyfeather Gazette (if you'd like to keep up with the fiction I create) Fictioneer's Field Guide (if you'd like writing tips and guidance from me) Choose what you want. An oak tree at center whose six visible main branches spread in all directions, some dragging on the ground, some reaching upward, some reaching outward. Diffuse patches of green in the background suggest leaves sprouting from the thinner branches. A thin dark haze lays along the ground. A vaguely humanoid shadow floats beside the tree. The rectangular image is made square with borders at top and bottom with blurred extensions of the main image. Watermark of Storyfeather along upper main branch at right.
Shallow & Jiunta break down how to use training data to steer nutrition decisions rather than treating diet like a separate problem. They explore why structured diets (keto, vegan, carnivore,) actually work despite the internet arguing about them, as well as how psychological buy-in, age, physiological adaptability, and daily gym wins matter more than macros on paper. Chatting today all about fortune telling with author Tom Benjamin!Historically, fortune tellers have always stood on the margins of society and been villainized by the Christo-Colonial powers that view divination as competition. The Modern Fortune Teller's Field Guide takes a contemporary and engaged approach to divination, with a strong focus on social responsibility. Because fortune tellers can see the world as it is, we serve as a threat to structures that benefit from secrecy. The Modern Fortune Teller's Field Guide is an essential guide to anyone seeking theory and history alongside divinatory knowledge. Though anyone today can pick up a pack of tarot cards or begin casting bones, fortune tellers have a responsibility in taking up that work to consider not only the forebears who suffered for that art—but also to understand the systems of oppression that impact our clients. Can you elaborate on these real world case studies? What were the significant challenges they overcame? If you could give one piece of advice to someone heading down this path, what would it be?SponsorsVentionCodeCraftersFull ScalePaddle.comSema SoftwarePropelAuthPostmanMeilisearchLinkshttps://ffvc.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/oliverbmitchell/https://www.amazon.com/dp/1032827491Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/code-story-insights-from-startup-tech-leaders/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
