[00:02] Welcome to the Show Ryan and Brook welcome Michael Hunter, founder of Spiffy Checkouts, for a conversation about entrepreneurship, marketing, and building scalable businesses.[01:01] The Accidental Marketing Journey Michael started as an entrepreneur at 17 with commission-only sales, got hooked on Tony Robbins, realized speaking was the highest-paid profession, but knew he needed marketing skills first. Spent 13-14 years learning by getting paid to do marketing for others.[03:39] Why Commission-Only Sales at 17 "Ruined" Him The summer between high school and college, Michael chose Cutco kitchen knives over $15/hour catering work. Became a raving fanatic for a product he believed in, learned consultative selling vs. sleazy tactics. Brook reveals this as one of his top recruiting centers for trained salespeople.[08:40] The Miserable Three-Year Grind Failed business partnerships, working alone, constantly losing deals to ex-Infusionsoft employees who had credibility but weren't even good at the software. The breaking point that led to a strategic career move.[11:13] The 45-Degree Angle Strategy Michael took a pay cut to join Infusionsoft for 16 months, not as a direct path but as strategic positioning. "Sometimes the scenic route is actually the fastest path." Left when it got political, returned to agency work with instant credibility boost.[14:10] Moving in 45-Degree Angles Explained Not direct line from A to B, but strategic sidesteps that accelerate long-term progress. Like taking the Infusionsoft job - wasn't direct alignment but helped reach end goals faster.[16:43] From Agency Work to Spiffy Checkouts In the trenches building funnels, websites, copy, ads - knew every tool and limitation. Started custom coding Infusionsoft order forms for big-name clients at $2,500 per checkout page. Realized the opportunity to scale this solution.[19:30] The Agency Hell Reality Check High-stress clients, crossed boundaries, vacations interrupted by launches. "Can't raise families doing this." Identified 20 software ideas, narrowed to 3, chose Spiffy based on highest opportunity, lowest risk to execute.[20:19] You're Competing Against Netflix, Not Other Coaches Mobile optimization isn't just mobile-ready, it's optimized for mobile experience. Your competition isn't direct competitors - it's the user experience set by billion-dollar companies like Netflix and Facebook.[22:29] The Irresistible Offer Foundation Before checkout optimization comes offer optimization. No amount of funnel hacking can fix a broken offer. Must have irresistible offer first, then optimize the experience.[23:16] What Makes an Irresistible Offer People know what's in their product but fail to explain the benefit of getting that result. Your product is a bridge from point A to point B - stop selling the bridge features, start selling the destination.[25:41] The Four Forces Framework Effort required, speed to value, certainty of result, and urgency. Cost-to-value contrast: charge 1/3 to 1/10 of perceived value. Example: "5-day workshop" vs "5-hour workshop" completely changed conversion rates.[28:03] The Xanax vs Meditation Example Effort required, speed to value, certainty, urgency - Xanax wins on all four forces even though meditation is better long-term. How can you make your solution more immediate without compromising quality?[30:54] Marketing the Long-Term Solution Address symptoms first, guide to core problems. Restaurant owner thinks he needs marketing (symptom) but really needs systems (core problem). Meet them where their awareness is, then elevate their thinking.[35:59] What Separates Successful Personal Brands Don't copy what big names do NOW - that's not how they got started. Michael logged into Brendan Burchard's simple systems and was shocked. Fo

Today on the HowToBBQRight Podcast, we are BACK from our break and ready to dive right into season 8 (00:22)! It's been a long time since we've seen the yellow kitchen, but how has Malcom's cooking changed since then (02:48)? Malcom went off and scored himself a HUGE bison, and cooked it up the best way he knows how (07:11)! If you're looking to up your mashed potato game, here's a secret that'll take them to the NEXT LEVEL (21:07)! We made sure to end 2024 off with a HUGE seafood smorgasbord (24:38), and I tried my hand at a not-so-successful creme fraiche (33:57)... Valentine's day is approaching quickly, and here's our BEST dinners for you to surprise someone special with (36:17)! Looking for a new grill to add to your arsenal? Primo Ceramic Grills has you covered (39:37)! Chef Michael Hunter swung by The Smokehouse to hunt with Malcom, and BOY can he make a mean charcuterie board (40:23)! Even though we've been eating like fancy folk, we still enjoy smoking up a fat chub of bologna (49:14). If you're cookin' up ribs on a drum smoker, this is the BEST way to avoid overcooked ribs (53:21)! On today's episode of the Buck Junkie Podcast, we are BACK from the winter break, and we have brought in a VERY special guest: Chef Michael Hunter (00:05)! How did Chef Michael get started hunting, (02:06) and here's how he's bringing wild game back to the restaurant industry in a HUGE way (05:08)! In the Michelin world, how do people view cooking with wild game (09:58)? Canada is a LOT different than Mississippi, so where does Michael like to hunt back home (14:26)? We've eaten some exotic animals before, but BEAR and COUGAR have NOT been on the menu (15:18). Michael takes a moment to debunk exactly WHY people think wild game has a “gamey” taste to it (18:40). What regulations does Canada have on hunting up north (20:55)? Michael has traveled to Mississippi a LOT for hunting, and here's his thoughts (25:05). We had some KILLER eats this weekend, but here's our favorites (29:43)! The ice made things go a little off schedule, but we had a BLAST hunting deer in the cold (31:34). Michael brought down some dishes to cook up from his own cookbook this weekend and we had a FEAST (50:29)! Finally, we close out with sending Michael off and heading back out to the stands to catch a few more does (59:34)!

Over 10 years, one of the most common messages I get is a strong desire for men to find their calling, so to speak. Studies often suggest that upwards of 70% of men are dissatisfied in their work and general fulfillment in life. But it's a challenge to find something you're interested in and turn it into a profitable and lucrative career that brings both a sense of purpose and financial prosperity. My guest today, Michael Hunter, is a man who is doing exactly that. Introduced to hunting at the age of 18 and a self-proclaimed glutton for food, Michael has found a way to merge the world of hunting and culinary excellence into some that brings him both a deep sense of satisfaction and provided he and his family a way of life. Today, we talk about the painstakingly slow path to progress, the importance of asking for exactly what you want, standing for what's right in the face of bad actors, when luck, God's grace, and hard work collide, and how you can find your path through the passion you build. On May 8th 2020, the entertainment world was rocked by the news that legendary Las Vegas illusionist Roy Horn had become a victim to the coronavirus pandemic. As one half of Siegfried and Roy, he was the animal-tamer who helped re-invent the magic act as multi-million-dollar spectacle. It was during a traumatic childhood in post-war Germany that Roy developed a unique ability to communicate with animals. In partnership with budding magician Siegfried, he took his talent to the stage – and the pair developed a live act that starred cheetahs, lions and tigers. They went from touring the clubs of Europe - to scoring their own headline residency as the hottest act in Vegas. They performed over 30,000 shows, becoming one of the most successful live acts of all time – and the official ‘Magicians of the Century'. But in 2003 tragedy struck – when Roy was mauled onstage and almost killed by one of his tigers. He was left permanently paralysed – but his strength to survive and recover from the incident was heralded as close to miraculous. Then, at the age of 75, he died from complications due to coronavirus. It's a highly contagious disease, but has a low mortality rate – and 94 per cent of those who die have at least one other pre-existing health condition. So what made Roy's infection turn fatal? World renowned forensic pathologist, Dr. Michael Hunter needs to analyze every detail in the limited available information to piece together what else was going on in his body to find the answers.

Sir Roger Moore died of liver cancer in 2017 at the age of 89. The famously modest and unassuming British actor had been many people's favourite James Bond. Where Sean Connery had played 007 straight, Roger had played him for laughs. He'd identified the joke at the heart of the role – James Bond, the secret agent so familiar that everybody knows his favourite drink. For Roger Moore, Bond was a parody or he was nothing. But Roger's swashbuckling, devil-may-care Bond had belied a life of serious health problems. He was not as robust as the movie image of indestructibility suggested. Roger's life story read like a medical textbook with major ailments at every turn. It had started with near terminal double-pneumonia at the age of five – the doctor had told his father he'd be back in the morning with a death certificate. The son of a south London policeman, Roger had been forced to reinvent himself at RADA - the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art – after being told that his cockney accent wouldn't do. This, coupled with his father's advice to remember that success might be short lived fostered in him a sense of life's precariousness. His international standard hypochondria and almost pathological self-deprecation were the consequence. His critics described his acting as wooden and shallow and deep down, he probably agreed with them. But as his friend, Sir Michael Caine says, making it look easy is the hardest thing. Sir Roger had made friends wherever he had gone, and long before the end of his life had been elevated to the status of National Treasure without ever quite understanding how. World-renowned forensic pathologist Dr Michael Hunter analyses the details of this fascinating case to unearth the truth behind Sir Roger Moore's death. He had suffered years of ill health and fought three different types of cancer but had somehow made it to the age of 89. Maybe there had been more 007 in Sir Roger Moore than he had let on.

On Christmas Day 1995, Dean Martin, nicknamed the “King of Cool”, died at the age of 78, leaving behind a five decade legacy in music, movies, and television. Dean Martin started life in the limelight as a crooner in local bars and clubs, but quickly shot to international stardom as a singer, releasing over 30 albums, and even knocking The Beatles off the top spot in the charts with his hit rendition of “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometimes.” He started his acting character as one half of the comedy duo, “Martin and Lewis” with Jerry Lewis, but after 10 years he cut ties and decided to go it alone. He subsequently starred in more than 40 movies, from Westerns with John Wayne to Oceans 11 with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Junior, with whom he would join forces in movies, on stage and television. The press dubbed them “The Rat Pack”. Dean went on to host his very own TV show, “The Dean Martin Show”, which earned him a Golden Globe award for Best Male Television Star. But 50 years in the limelight took its toll on this popular entertainer. He chain smoked his whole life and was a drinking man, even using alcohol as a prop for a convincing “drunky” stage persona. However, one tragic moment in 1987 would see Dean Martin's life unravel. During the last 8 years of his life his alcohol intake spiralled out of control and he became dependent on opioid painkillers. He died at the age 78 of respiratory arrest. As a lifelong smoker he developed Emphysema and later, lung cancer. However, world renowned forensic pathologist, Dr Michael Hunter doesn't think this is the whole story.
