For this episode of The All-Around Adventure Podcast, I'm joined by world traveler and expatriate, Pelumi Nubi. Pelumi was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and at the age of 10, she moved to London with her family. While growing up, she spent a good amount of time in the library reading books on travel and faraway places. This inspired her to get out and explore the world one day. By the time she made it to university, she sought out ways to travel during her studies. Since then she has been to over 70 countries and currently resides in the city of Dubai. Which is a city that I really enjoyed visiting! Now Pelumi is helping others to get out and see the world with their friends by creating unique travel experiences through her travel agency, Oremi Travels. In this episode, Pelumi tells us about what it was like growing up in the UK and how she ended up settling in Dubai. She also tells us about some of her travel experiences along the way, including both the highlights as well as the misadventures. Furthermore, we also discuss some important topics for you to consider if you plan to go out and travel. Such as how to save money and finance your adventures and how to travel more safely. It was then that she knew that she wanted to eventually pursue a career in archaeology. This would lead her to the University of Exeter. Where she earned a double honors undergraduate degree in History and Archaeology, as well as a postgraduate degree in Experimental Archaeology. Throughout her career, Emily has conducted fieldwork in some amazing places abroad in countries like Greece and the US. Though now as a Commercial Archaeologist, much of her work is done primarily throughout Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset in the UK. In this episode, Emily tells us about her career as an archaeologist. It was an ordeal that took many months to complete. Though Aaron's tenure as a thru-hiker began well before the NCT. His first long-distance trail experience was the Florida Trail. Which is another national scenic trail that extends from Big Cypress National Preserve in South Florida, up to Gulf Islands National Seashore near Pensacola. That hike involved a lot of walking through waist-high water with many dangers lurking nearby! And it was a challenging way to kick off Aaron's hiking journey. However, the NCT was an entirely different animal that offered many incredible experiences, along with its own unique set of challenges! In this episode, Aaron tells us more of his hiking stories. Beginning with his time on the Florida Trail, and leading up to his time on the NCT. He and I also talk about some of our shared experiences during each of our own hikes of the NCT's Michigan section. One of them being the wonderful Trail Angels, Trail Chapter members, and other amazing people that we met on the trail. For it was the people that we met along the way that made our time on the NCT more than just being about getting miles hiked! For this episode of The All-Around Adventure Podcast, I'm joined by world traveler and forensic archaeologist, Julie Evo. Julie is an archaeologist that I respect and admire. And I've been fortunate to have worked alongside her on a couple of field projects in the past. Throughout her career, Julie has had the opportunity to conduct fieldwork all around the world! Though some of the locations that she's worked at have been quite challenging. Such as in central Illinois, where she had to walk through miles of dense ten-foot-tall fields of corn. Or western Louisiana, where she's had to inch her way through a ton of trees and thorn vines. And if that wasn't enough, Julie also enjoys traveling to extreme locations during her vacations. Her most recent was a trip to Norway to go trekking in the Arctic Circle! In this episode, Julie tells us about how she became an archaeologist, as well as some of the places that she's traveled to for fieldwork. I first met Paige a little over a year ago while I was in the midst of Operation: Wolverine Walk. My 1,200-mile thru-hike across the entire state of Michigan. I faced footwear issues along the North Country Trail that led me to stop at her store. And she was there to provide me with the smoothest footwear-buying experience that I've ever had! She and I had stayed in touch since then. I would learn that she has traveled to many different cities to compete in, as well as pace for, various marathons. Anthony is also a speaker, trainer, and coach who specializes in high-performance leadership and development. To many people, Anthony has been viewed as a man who has it all figured out and was groomed for success his whole life. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Anthony grew up in poverty, he didn't excel in school, he was in and out of different homes, and he was told by many Naval leaders that he'd never amount to anything. Though instead of listening to the naysayers and dwelling on his upbringing. Anthony sought out solid leaders and mentors and took whatever opportunity that he could to better himself and further his career in the Navy. Anthony now serves as an officer and seeks to take what he's learned to coach and lead others. All while going by his philosophy: “A position doesn't make the leader, it merely reveals their discipline to cultivate the character necessary to lead by example.” In this episode, Anthony tells us more of his story. Starting with the trouble that he faced in his youth, making the transition to the military, where he's deployed to, and becoming an officer and a leader. These people we're Trail Angels of the North Country Trail. And Buck was one of those Trail Angels that I met when I made it further south in Michigan's lower peninsula. Before I arrived, he had told me that he had just finished building a shelter on his property out of an old grain bin that he had salvaged. And that I would get to stay in it! This shelter became known as Bin-Walkin. As a hiker himself, Buck understands how nice a warm and comfy dwelling can be after hiking many miles on Michigan's trails. Last year I took a hiatus from podcasting because I set out on a grand adventure! I decided to do a thru-hike across my home state of Michigan! Which was a total distance of about 1,200 miles, and it took me over three months to complete. There were many moments on the trail where I felt overwhelmed. When the thought of how much further that I had to go crushed my spirit. So I had to remind myself that I wasn't going to finish it in a day. And that I shouldn't focus on later parts of the trail, but rather the part that I was currently on and just take it one step at a time. I've also had to tell this to myself again on a recent archaeological project. Where there was so much work that was coming up. But I dialed things in to deal with the immediate tasks at hand and left tomorrow's problems to tomorrow's me. In this episode, I break this idea down and talk about how you can implement it into other areas of your life! Thank you for listening! To hear more great episodes like this one, click here! For this episode of The All-Around Adventure Podcast, I'm joined by Magpie & Constantine, thru-hikers and the owners of Eleven Skys. I first met these two while I was in the midst of my thru-hike across Michigan for Operation: Wolverine Walk. We had crossed paths deep in the woods in the Upper Peninsula. They told me that they were attempting to hike the entire length of the North Country Trail. A total distance of about 4,800 miles! But what I didn't know, was that they were attempting to complete it in record time. A feat that they ultimately achieved! And even now after their 4,800 mile journey on the North Country Trail. They're still finding other amazing trails around the US to hike and explore. In this episode, Magpie and Constantine tell us more about their journey as hikers. They tell about their early hiking memories, including how they met on the trail. We also share some of the highlights and challenges that we've experienced while on the North Country Trail. As well as some of the takeaways and life lessons that our time on the trail has taught us! To watch the video of our conversation, head over to the All-Around Adventure YouTube channel! What Legends Are Made Of│TRAVEL REFLECTIONS

Recently I traveled to Kentucky for an archaeological fieldwork project. This project took place at Cumberland Gap National Park and involved trekking deep in the wilderness. Steep slopes, dense vegetation, trip hazards, and freezing temperatures were constant companions. Some days were challenging, and there were moments when I doubted myself out there. However, I told myself a certain phrase in my head to help me change my mindset. And that was, "This is the type of shit that legends are made of!" I've also adopted a similar mindset when I sought out other intense challenges in my life. Such as Marine Corps boot camp, an MMA fight, a Spartan Race, among others. In this episode of Travel Reflections, I talk a little bit about my experiences in Cumberland Gap and from other challenges. As well as the mindset of becoming legendary!
