In 2024, the Disorder podcast looked a lot at Ukraine, Syria, Israel-Palestine, India, Bangledesh, and even north Africa… but we didn't devote sufficient time to sub-saharan Africa. So what does Africa look like in the Age of Disorder?    To find out, Jason is joined this week by Professor Clionadh Raleigh. Cliona created Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) which is a US-based NGO. She is also Professor of Political Violence and Geography in the School of Global Studies at the University of Sussex in the UK.    The duo discuss, how the Second Trump administration with its proposals for tariffs and increased tensions with China might affect Africa. And then muse on the roles of middle powers like Nigeria and Ethiopia in a disordered world, highlighting their internal challenges and regional influences.     Then they turn their attention to the civil war in Sudan, the impact of external forces like the Wagner Group in that region, and the future of American policy towards Africa amidst these challenges. And as they Order the Disorder, Clionadh suggests that we need for a nuanced understanding of local politics and the impact of external influences on African stability, and that women and girls need to be supported as part of this.    Plus, we announce the start of our new partnership with the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI). The world's oldest and the UK's leading defence and security think tank. As part of that partnership we will be featuring research and guests from their network, and regular live events at their base in Whitehall. Patchwork States: The roots of political violence in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh

Over the winter of 2019 in India, 519 riots took place causing mass casualties and deaths. This in part was a reaction to the introduction of the Citizenship Amendments Act (CAA), government legislation that enabled non-Muslim immigrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh to become Indian citizens. The exclusion of Muslims was seen by many as a fundamental challenge to principles of secularism enshrined in the Indian Constitution, resulting in violent altercations between protestors, the police and Hindu nationalists. Yet, this was not the only cause. Far removed from CAA agitations, political violence in a variety of forms was waged across India and their neighbouring countries. To understand the roots of political violence across India, Pakistan and Bangledesh, we speak to Dr Adnan Naseemullah, Reader in International Politics in the Department of War Studies. Discussing his new book, ‘Patchwork States: The Historical Roots of Subnational Conflict and Competition in South Asia', he argues that the enduring differences in state capacity and state-society relations, built during the colonial period, continue to shape patterns of political violence across the Indian subcontinent. In bridging the gap between the past and present, he asks us to think critically about the legacy of colonial rule and the state in modern-day conflicts, while keeping in mind that history is not determinative.

In this episode of The Great Commission Update with Greg Kelley, Rusty Humphries and Greg are in Bangledesh fulfilling The Great Commission and helping the poorest of the poor in that country. Watch what happens when the unexpected happens and derails all of the careful planning. Our Mission World Mission delivers the Word of God in audio format to oral learners living in unreached people groups. We believe that it is our responsibility as Christians to follow the Great Commission, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19-20). While it is always our desire to reach everyone, anywhere, we specifically focus our efforts on reaching the Unreached; those throughout the world who have never had the opportunity to hear the gospel and accept Jesus Christ. Core Values Prayerfully led by the Word of God and following the Holy Spirit's leading, our ultimate objective is to fulfill the Great Commission by seeing the lost develop a meaningful relationship with Christ. We strive to be focused and disciplined; fulfilling our mission will always receive the best of our time, energy and resources. We seek to always maintain positive attitudes, building team members up and never speaking thoughtless words about one another. We believe the gospel is most effectively presented in a holistic context and that national leaders led by the Holy Spirit are the most effective ground laborers to implement our mission and engage unreached peoples. We welcome volunteers who are led to serve at World Mission and will provide a positive environment for them to use their gifts. www.WorldMission.cc

Halfway There | Christian Testimonies | Spiritual Formation, Growth, and Personal Experiences with God

Tony Weedor is a regional director with Advancing Native Mission sending people back to their home countries with the Gospel. Today, Tony shares how he found Christ, what it cost him, and how God is using him now. Tony grew up in a Muslim family in Liberia and describes for us the division and turmoil that country experienced. He is a man of great questions and the Lord used his questions to lead him to Christ when he stumbled into a Bible study one day. The missionaries were not afraid of questions and his heart came alive when he heard the answers. Tony's story will take you out of North America and into a world few of us get to see. Please listen and share Tony's story! Stories Tony shared: Growing up in a Muslim family in Liberia where slavery was still part of the culture The racial and tribal division of Liberia in his youth The many questions about his faith that he could not ask The missionaries who were not afraid of his question The differences between how God is portrayed in the Bible and the Koran Making a “mistake” and attending a Bible study The woman who led him to Christ because she was tired of his questions Why he didn't tell his family about his conversion for three years What his mother said when he told her about his conversion The pain of being rejected by his mother and family Walking from Liberia to Ivory Coast His mission to refugees The fruit of mission work throughout the world Learning how to wait for God to open doors Great quotes from Tony: The concept of sin and forgiveness was not in my worldview as a Muslim. In the name of Jesus Christ, demons will have to flee. Who is this guy? You wash five times a day. You pray five times a day. But you can't wash your heart. You can't wash your mind. If I tell you how many Muslims are coming to Christ through dreams and visions, whether from Pakistan to Egypt, Bangledesh to Nigeria, Nigera to South Africa, you won't believe it.
