On this special Sunday we hear from God's word the story of his interactions with humanity and set the stage for Jesus's coming to earth as a baby. Between select lessons (scripture readings), we have a meditation on the preceding readings. The meditation on creation and the fall is by Beth Kirby, our Administrator and a postulant. The meditation on the prophetic readings of Jeremiah and Isaiah 7 is by Fr. David Trautman, our rector. The final meditation on the readings from Micah and Isaiah 11 is by Kim Harris, our Children's Director and Welcome Coordinator. In this latest episode, award-winning, multi-disciplinary designer Neo Khama shares how we can create impactful brands that are authentic to our character, life story, and our mission.  Neo Khama works with boutique wellness, lifestyle and beauty entrepreneurs to create thoughtful and compelling brands. She is passionate about bringing an entrepreneur's creative vision to reality, and empowering founders to create a brand they love and are proud of. Having run a successful design business for the last 10 years she understands the roll-coaster ride that most entrepreneurs go through, having followed her gut to leave a fashion marketing role in London to move to Shanghai and pursue a freelance design career, despite her lack of graphic design training. Her previous marketing roles ensure that Neo learnt the importance of story-telling and being able to reach an audience with effective communication. In today's episode, we discuss-  What elements should lead the way as we go about cultivating our brand persona? What role does personal clarity play in the process?  We always have to take into consideration - the market trends and what appeals to the target audience, how do we do that without smothering our authenticity?  Spinning our stories or making it appealing from a marketing perspective in terms of design, how do we balance that in a way so that we still show up as we are and connect with the audience without self-distortion? What goes into building a successful brand?  Managing negativity especially when it's aimed at our work Resources mentioned during the episode- Neo's Website - https://neokhama.com/ The Brand Stylist - https://www.thebrand-stylist.com/ Raw Milk Podcast by Beth Kirby - https://tunein.com/radio/Raw-Milk---The-Creative-Business-Podcast-about-social-media-marketing-branding-blogging-p1138192/ Follow me on Instagram - https://www.kratimehra.com/mehra_krati For more, visit - https://www.kratimehra.com

I am so thrilled to welcome Emma Love to The Joy of SUP Podcast today. Here's Emma: When I was 45yrs old, I along with my  very young son had our very first go on kayaks at Holme Pierrepont National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham.  While on the water, we saw some children playing on paddle boards. We quickly exchanged our kayaks for SUPs + I was hooked! This was the beginning of an incredible journey.  Five years later, my writing is published online with British Canoeing, I was the 2nd woman in the UK to qualify as a British Canoeing White Water SUP Coach!  In 2020 I became a British Canoeing #She Paddles Ambassador. In 2021 I was invited to join the Californian Watersport Collective Ambassador programme. The role of  #ShePaddles Ambassador has  empowered me to speak + write about my own paddling journey to inspire other women. This has included podcasts in the UK with SUPFM, in USA with Paul Clark, and with Etienne Stott, Olympic Slalom Gold Medal Winner. In February 2021, I was thrilled to write a series of interviews celebrating the explosion of women in the White Water SUP coaching route for SUPMagUK.  I am very proud of this year long project and so honoured to chat with Jenna Sanders, Jessica Phillip, Lisa Boore, Charlotte Louise, Louise Royle, Beth Kirby, Julie Vigor and Joyce Johnston.  All incredible women, inspiring paddlers + talented coaches. Summer 2021 I took a tucked away dream of mine + turned it into a reality - my very own SUP coaching business Wotbikini Stand Up Paddleboarding.   I specialise in building women's confidence on the water via stand up paddle boarding.  I am very pleased to be a British Canoeing Delivery Partner.   It was an amazing first season,  wonderful to support so many inspiring women.  We have learnt together, developed, laughed + really enjoyed having time on the water.2021 my business was nominated for two British Canoeing 'Delivery Partner' Awards.  I am delighted to have been selected for both the 2022 'Engagement Award Finalist' & 2022 'Quality Experience Award Finalist'. 2022 – SUP Mag UK - Interviewing 8 of the 16 #ShePaddles Ambassadors about their SUP Journeys.https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/news/2019/hear-from-emma-love-on-her-journey-to-become-a-sup-white-water-coachhttps://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/news/2020/looking-to-try-something-new-why-not-try-stand-up-paddleboarding-on-wwhttps://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/news/2020/menopause-paddling-and-becoming-a-sup-white-water-coachFind Emma: Website:          wotbikinipaddleboarding.co.ukFacebook:       Wotbikini Stand Up Paddleboarding  Instagram:      @WotbikiniSUPThank you to Bluefin SUP for sponsoring Season 3!Any questions, please email healthyhappyfifty@yahoo.com.Instagram: @thejoyofsuppodcast_Follow #thejoyofsuppodcast on Twitter + InstagramWebsite www.jomoseley.comPlease also rate + review us on Apple as it will help more people find us!Thank you for listening, Jo xPlease ensure you follow all safety advice and do what is right for your fitness levels and body.

#46 - Founder of Hikarui, Chikae Howland shares her small business journey. After working as a florist, she created her concept of Lightweight Living, Hikarui, which was born out of her own need to find ways to improve her lifestyle and overall well-being.As a child, she was always creative and knew that she wanted to run her own business. In 2012, after graduating from university, she did a floristry course and set up a floristry business called Okishima & Simmonds (O&S), with her friend Jessica Simmonds. From the very start, they invested in beautiful branding and photo-shoots. They specialised in Floral Creative Styling and created designs for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and London Fashion Week. Several years later,  Chikae decided to take a three month road trip to Japan and America. She attended workshops with Beth Kirby from Local Milk, Sarah Winward, Sinclair & Moore and Ginny Au. On her return to the UK, a decision was made to no longer continue O&S.Chikae's passion for photography grew, not only digital but also film. After spending time in Japan in 2017, she started to create the concept of Hikarui and developed it further when she returned to the UK. Then during the lockdown in 2020, she taught herself how to code and created her own website, including a concept store. Chikae shares a typical day in her life, including her morning routine, weekly routine and tools she uses. She talks about being highly sensitive and her why, before discussing her plans for the future. Listening to this episode, you'll hear how passionate Chikae is about well-being and self-care. At the end of the podcast, you'll discover her practical tips, which I'm sure you'll find very inspiring. Show notes are available on the My Small Business & Me website: https://mysmallbusinessandme.com/episode46

Well you guys asked for it, so here I am reading out loud an article I wrote a couple months ago for The Fullest. It's about how my first hangover taught me self-care isn't just green juice and face masks, sometimes it's rest and cookies. It forced me into true intuitive eating when I had to listen to my body's cravings over what my dogmatic-wellness-obsessed-dieting mind would usually allow. Above all, the experience of being hung over made me realize how I prioritized a rigid self-care to-do list over people, creativity, and experiencing life. The entire situation showed me all forms of self-care should prioritize connection and presence over anything else. Most traditional self-care is solo, which can be great and really useful sometimes, yet other times it can be a way of hiding and isolating out of fear. I'm still learned how to decipher which version of self-care I need when. My default has become to isolate, and this article/ episode explores how I'm still learning my version of self-care now includes connecting and putting myself in an uncertain situations more that cozy certain ones. Plus, I give my likes and learns for the week, a giveaway, and more... Notes from the Show:Have you seen our Holiday Gift Guide? The first step is the hardest. Whatever goal you’re chasing, it is all too easy to come up with a long list of reasons NOT to start: What if people don’t like my work? What if I’m not good enough? What if it’s simply too late? I’ve had all of those fears myself, many in the last few days. And the truth is, we’re never going to eliminate fear completely. But we CAN learn to appreciate where our fear is coming from and choose to take the next small step, despite our uncertainty. Today, I’m discussing how to get over fear and START. I share the importance of taking the first step to build momentum and explain why the people who ‘make it’ don’t let failure turn into unsurmountable fear. I also explore the value in teasing out the negative thoughts that inform your fears and dismantling them logically—with a little help from your rational brain. Finally, I walk us through some of the big fears that hold creatives back and offer advice on overcoming the fear of rejection, the fear that it’s all been done before, and the fear that we’re too late to the party. Listen in for insight around honoring your own timeline and learn how to confront your fears, walking through them bravely each day. What You Will Learn The concept of life as a series of starts How taking the first step serves as momentum How people who make it start (and never stop) How to tease out the thoughts behind the fear How to engage your emotional AND rational brain Why we should celebrate rejections, not fear them How to counter the fear that ‘it’s all been done’ The value in focusing on what you can control Why it’s never too late to start How to embrace the public learning curve How to leverage the abundance mentality The idea of bravely walking through your fears Connect with Beth Beth’s Website Beth on Instagram Beth on Pinterest Beth on Twitter Local Milk Blog Local Milk on Facebook Email hello@localmilkblog.com Resources Mentioned Raw Milk Podcast Show Notes Instagram Hashtag Quiz Intentional Goal Setting Workbook

If you’re under the impression that the people who ‘make it’ are special in some way, I’m here to tell you that’s not true. The only thing special about me is that I was especially broken, especially damaged, especially sick and hurting. For more than a decade, I lived in a haze of drugs and sex, desperately trying to feel whole. I was in the throes of full-on mental illness, stuck in an endless cycle of abusive relationships, and I didn’t know how to make it stop. It wasn’t until I was forced into rehab that I made the mindset shift that finally freed me. Today, I’m sharing my story in the hopes you’ll see that your dreams are possible. I describe my typical, middle-class American childhood and my transition from good kid to good-time girl. I explain what finally motivated me to pursue treatment and how my beliefs changed radically as a result.  I credit the therapist who gave me permission to try this whole blogging thing as a career and discuss how I taught myself photography and social media marketing. Finally, I speak to the evolution of my business model, from doing local work to earning sponsorships to offering retreats. Listen in to understand my recent decision to stop working for corporations and start working for YOU and get empowered to transform your life—with a creative online business of your very own. If I can do it, so can you. Saying NO comes with a lot of baggage—guilt, fear and shame. We are taught to be obliging, and we tell ourselves that turning people down makes us lazy and selfish. But here’s the truth: When you say YES to the things that don’t move your dreams forward, you end up scattered and stuck. Pulled in a million different directions rather than intentionally moving toward what really matters. Today, I’m debunking the myths around the real magic word—NO. I discuss how to make decisions around what truly deserves a yes, using your big dreams as a guide. I explain why you have to put your own oxygen mask on first and recognize that time is your most precious resource. I speak to the danger in conflating what’s visible with what’s important, describing how we say yes to the noise in order to postpone real action. And I give you permission to outsource tasks without shame, freeing yourself up to do the work only YOU can do. Listen in for my go-to strategies for saying NO (without coming off like a jerk) and learn to say ‘hell YES’ to the things that truly make your life better. What You Will Learn Why saying no doesn’t come naturally to us What #theartofslowliving looks like for me How defining your big dreams serves as a guide Why every yes is actually a no to something else The value in putting YOUR oxygen mask on first Why time is more valuable than money How to avoid conflating visible with important How we use yes to postpone real action The option to outsource tasks without shame Why saying no is NOT selfish or lazy How to say no with confidence and compassion How the No Challenge simplifies your life overnight Connect with Beth Beth’s Website Beth on Instagram Beth on Pinterest Beth on Twitter Local Milk Blog Local Milk on Facebook Email hello@localmilkblog.com Resources Mentioned The Slow Morning Routine Intentional Goal Setting Workbook The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown

Have you ever wondered how someone makes their Instagram feed cohesive? Or how a blog post can be so visually beautiful? Today, we are teaching YOU how to build a brand, leverage social media strategy, and carve a name for yourself. Today's guest, Beth Kirby is one of the most creative women I know. In this episode, Beth told us her incredible story of discovering she had bipolar disorder, and how the messy times of her life brought her to here-- where she is an amazingly talented photographer, cook, teacher, and the lady-boss-behind-the-curtain at Local Milk, the award-winning food, travel, and lifestyle blog. When she's not in the kitchen she spends her time teaching other creative entrepreneurs how to tell visual stories, harness the power of social media, and turn their passions into a living. Her passion is helping people eat well, live well, and work well, and to do it all with mindfulness, ambition, and joy. I have always DREAMED of having Beth on Goal Digger. She is an absolute game changer in the social media world-- her images, content, and messages are truly so rare and she cranks out beautiful, meaningful content and images daily! Her content creation and image curation are truly breathtaking- which is why I couldn’t resist inviting her on to pick her brilliant brain for ALL things photography, styling, and curating a meaningful visual. This episode is so important to anyone on Instagram, with a blog, working in styling or branding-- basically, this episode for EVERYONE. Without further adou, Beth Kirby!

Beth's work has inspired me for a long time, so it was a lot of fun to finally get to chat with her 1 on 1, and share our passion for the world of online community building for anyone who feels like they don't fit in with the norm.
