Episode Eight features Bill Nowicki, the founder of LocalPodcastNetworks.co discussing the merits of local podcasting and how you can benefit from it as well! My Key Takeaways: Some of my key takeaways from my conversation with Bill are: Local Podcasts can benefit an underserved community.   You can establish a really deep connection with someone by interviewing them. Marietta Stories, Bill's local podcast dedicated to the Marietta, GA area has opened up all kinds of opportunities that Bill never anticipated as well as helped him acclimate to the town and become a 'regular'. Marietta Stories has served as a lead magnet for Bill's videography business, Nowicki Media. Bill advised making a podcast like his into 'seasons' to avoid burnout. Bill's process is a bit unusual in that he typically does his interviews in person with one microphone between them as opposed to over the internet. Bill believes that we are wired for stories.  He said that when you hear someone's story it helps explain the way they act and interact in the world. Bill views his interviews as a special gift to the interviewee and does his best to capture them respectfully. You can reach out to Bill at bill@mariettastories.com Join us next week as we talk to Jeffrey Nash and discuss how he invented The Juppy and brought it to life and the marketplace! Episode Seven features Dave Stokes, the founder of Author2Audio discussing how he helps authors turn their books into audio books that can be purchased on Audible, Apple Books, and other platforms! My Key Takeaways: Some of my key takeaways from my conversation with Dave are: When starting a business, try to have a couple of years of savings in your bank account.  It will take you more time than you think to be profitable. If a book has too many tables or lists the corresponding audio likely won't be compelling.  To get around that he provides a companion doc or PDF to audio listeners as a free download. The author's own voice provides a sense of authenticity and he very rarely needs to use a professional voice over. Here's a bonus that I hadn't considered:  In editing the books, Dave is basically getting a free education on each of the topics covered as presented by an expert. Audio books improve story telling as you get to hear the author's tone and inflection. Dave's first question to a potential client is "Why do you want an audiobook?" Their explanations help him to understand the authors motivations and expectations.  He also said that in eight out of ten cases it is because the readers have demanded it. A 40,000 word long book typically takes 5 and a half hours to listen to and 20 plus hours to edit.  Most authors make 100 mistakes per hour of reading that has to be cleaned up. When Dave is done editing the book he gives it back to the author who then dispenses it to various friends and colleagues for their opinions and feedback.  After the final cleanup based on the feedback received Dave then uploads it to the various Audio Book services such as Audible, Apple Books, Spotify, etc. The whole process takes around 2 and a half months from start to finish. Dave suggests to authors that they break the recording up in to hour long sessions and that when they are done they re-record the Intro and first chapter as they are warmed up and better understand the process. Join us next week as we talk to Bill Nowicki and discuss how his  podcast focused around his local community helps his business.   Show notes and more can be found at EntrepreneursOver40.com

Why buy a blueberry farm near Marietta and start a whole new life? Because Jennifer Maxwell and her husband Matt care deeply about  eating and buying local as an alternative to the organic movement.    The host, Bill Nowicki, met Jennifer while eating at the Marietta Square Market and Bill was intrigued by Jennifer’s journey from a dairy farm in Central New York to Marietta. Now Jennifer and Matt own Tiny Apple Farms,  a reference to the crab apples that Jennifer saw on the farm. Now with blueberries, bees, figs, pears and chickens they are starting their journey as small farm owners. They hope to work with other local farms to produce dishes that are delicious and very local.   Check out the farm on Instagram and hopefully at the Marietta Square Farmers Market next spring.    https://www.instagram.com/tinyapplefarms/

Bill Nowicki has a unique side hustle. He has a podcast show called MariettaStories named after Marietta GA, a suburb of Atlanta with a population of about 60,000. Having a podcast show isn’t unique but producing a show that’s focused on a local community is something a little different – and something you might consider doing for your local community after hearing Bill’s story. Note: Click here to download Bill’s top tips for starting and growing a local podcast from this episode. Bill is a former Navy submariner, still a nuclear engineer by day, and had different side hustle aspirations at first – he wanted to make videos for local businesses but was finding it hard to land clients. After meeting a charismatic 78-year-old woman at his local church he had the idea to start a podcast about people in his local community, for his local community. He thought this would be a great way to generate videography leads. But as his show has grown and become a profit-center of its own, Bill realized that not only in his time better spent on his show but the medium of audio is more enjoyable and profitable for him than video. Tune in to hear how Bill started his podcast show, how he marketed his show and became known in his local community, how he’s monetized the show to turn it into a revenue generating side hustle and some of the exciting things he has planned for the future.

First of all thank you so much for the amazing feedback for the episode 100. For those who have not listened to it - the write 2b read podcast episode 100 featured interview with me, which my friend podcaster Bill Nowicki had recorded just few days after the podcast was launched. So if you wanna know more about me as a person and find out who stands behind this voice and as I’ve been told pretty thick James Bond girl accent - then head over to www.anialexander.com/100 By reaching the milestone of 100 episodes I spent some time thinking about how much I have learnt in less than a year of podcasting… And it’s not like all the things I’ve learnt are related to podcasting, not at all… So today I would like to talk about the coincidences in life… which later, looking back are things that had to happen in order to lead you to things which you had to come across. In order to explain what exactly I mean I’ll refer to the Write 2B Read podcast - which you are listening to right now and which has become a very crucial part of my life. So let me tell you its story. I thought about podcasting long before I actually launched this podcast. I love to talk, I love people, I am curious and I am a story teller, so it was sort of logical that podcasting could be something that I would enjoy… BUT what happens usually when we want to do something? Yup… self-doubts and excuses attack and push back the intention to do something new. And that’s exactly what happened to me back then. I recalled the fact that I have an accent and that would not sound well… I thought that the technical part of producing a podcast was very complicated and I also thought that no one would like to be interviewed by a completely unknown Armenian podcaster… And then the coincidences in my life came by one by one. First of all one of my good online friend and a fellow writer Rob Cubbon introduced me to my current podcasting mentor Meron Bareket. I don’t even remember how did the topic come up. It was long after the self doubt had won and I had decided that podcasting is not something I could possibly manage and had forgotten about it. So I got introduced to Meron’s free video tutorials, where he covers everything you need to know about launching a podcast  (which by the way you can get too at www.podcastincubator.com/write2bread) and after watching the first few videos I realized that technically it is not as complicated as I thought. That sort of made me think that things were not impossible. So I drank a bottle if beer and recorded a few second audio to send out to few British friends and see if my accent would be bearable. The feedback was great and they told that I should definitely go ahead and start a podcast. So it all led me reach the point when I though “what the hell - let’s try it”. For me it was just an experimental project. I was going to do my best, try and see what happens. Now, when I think back … I might have never known Rob (btw I still don’t remember how we met online)  and respectfully not be introduced to Meron… Even after the launch I might not have put so much time into it… or got so many amazing guests… or might have given up at the early stage… So I guess, things happen for a reason. When they do you don’t yet know where those things will lead you to… Yes there is an element of luck to meet the right person at the right time, to come up with an idea at a time when there are people who are willing to help you execute it, to gain the courage when you need it most… but if you embrace what comes and later on help the chain reaction with putting some time and effort on top of the initial coincidence amazing things may happen. When you get an idea for a book - help it become a book - start writing it and don’t let the uncertainty about whether it will sell or not stop you. When you meet someone online - help that person change your life - talk to him. I am connecting to 3 new people online each day. Some of them later become online friends, business partners and avid listeners. When you think about doing something you’d like to do - don’t overthink - just do it. Don’t let the imaginary barriers stop you from starting. When you get self-doubts - try to see how real the doubts are… maybe they are created and imagined by you and have nothing to do with the reality. Look back at all the coincidences in your life and you will realize that they were not pure coincidences. They were chances, opportunities and the beginnings of something new. They were the turning points and the twists that you needed in your life. They may lead you to amazing changes and make you create something amazing. Maybe coming across the Write 2B Read podcast was not a coincidence either and the fact that you are listening to me know means something… like that you need to write that book inside you, or you need to find out how to share the book you have  already written with the world - or simply get the inspiration and the encouragement that you needed now. Go ahead and make things happen. You can do it! Oh and go ahead and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes to make sure that you don’t miss anything new :)

Bill’s final thoughts for the listeners: “When you get stuck… get with somebody, get with a group of people, do a meetup… just get together with people that are like-minded, and get yourself kick-started and then be a cannonball to them. Before you know it, you start transitioning and you start recreating yourself as a new person.” Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=CQWQVRBGQCK7E&source=url)

Kurt Jarrio, a 20 year submariner was a hard partying, somewhat crazy plankowner aboard the USS Minneapolis / St. Paul.  He was tied up by robbers, robbed again outside a pizza place.  He landed his wife after just a few days meeting her back in the 80’s.  They are still together with 4 successful kids who each have served or are serving in the military.
