It's that time of year, Spookies! Sydney's back in town, and that means we get to record another very special in-person episode, and this one's all about Drive Angry (2011). For our third installment of NIC MAY-GE, we're focusing on a grindhouse-inspired thriller where the man of the month teams up with Amber Heard. An adrenaline-fueled adventure that sees this duo facing off against Billy Burke, this flick dials up the sex, style, and violence, and it's one you definitely don't want to watch with your dad — despite the father-daughter themes. Join us (and Nicolas Cage) as we hit the road at high speeds like we're escaping from hell itself. References:
If you're in the mood for a psychological thriller that blends emotional depth with zombie horror, Outbreak (2024) might be just what you're looking for. Now available on Amazon, this indie film offers a fresh take on the genre by focusing on the human psyche amidst chaos. Set in the eerie expanse of Mourning Rock State Park, the story follows park ranger Neil Morris (Billy Burke) and his wife Abby (Alyshia Ochse) as they grapple with the mysterious disappearance of their teenage son, Ben. Their personal turmoil is compounded when a bizarre outbreak begins to affect the local population, blurring the lines between reality and delusion. As the couple delves deeper into the mystery, they must confront not only the external threats but also the internal demons that threaten to consume them. Billy Burke as Neil Morris Alyshia Ochse as Abby Morris Jessica Frances Dukes as Helen Raoul Max Trujillo as Chief Mike Cortez Taylor Handley as John Gibson Directed by stunt veteran Jeff Wolfe in his directorial debut, Outbreak showcases his ability to craft suspenseful narratives on a modest budget. The film was produced under challenging conditions, including labor strikes, and was shot over 19 days around Los Angeles. While Outbreak features elements of a zombie outbreak, it's more of a character study exploring the depths of grief and psychological deterioration. The film has been noted for its effective makeup effects and the portrayal of zombies that are both unsettling and agile. Billy Burke's performance as a man consumed by loss has been particularly praised. Outbreak is available for streaming on Amazon. If you're interested in a horror film that delves into the complexities of the human mind while delivering suspense and chills, this might be a compelling choice. #SecondChanceCinema #MoviePodcast #FilmDiscussion #CinemaLovers #HiddenGems #Outbreak2024 #OutbreakMovie #JeffWolfe #BillyBurke #ZombieThriller #HorrorMovies #PsychologicalThriller #IndieFilm #SupportIndieFilm #ZombieApocalypse #GriefHorror #HorrorCommunity #ThrillerFans #CreepyCinema

This April, we're spotlighting the freshest and most fear-inducing new arrivals to Shudder — and kicking things off with a bloody bang. First up: Bloody Axe Wound, a twisted coming-of-age slasher that's equal parts gory and gripping. Starring Sari Arambulo, Molly Brown, Billy Burke, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the film follows Abbie Bladecut (Arambulo), a teenager grappling with the terrifying legacy of her blood-soaked lineage. As the daughter of infamous serial killer Roger Bladecut, Abbie's journey to self-discovery is anything but ordinary. Haunted by her past and stalked by a copycat killer with a vendetta, Abbie must confront the darkness that runs through her veins — and decide whether she's destined to follow in her father's footsteps or forge a different path. Bloody Axe Wound blends slasher nostalgia with sharp modern edge, making it a standout entry in Shudder's April lineup. Stay tuned as we continue to explore the must-watch horror dropping this month.

CELEBRATING WOMEN IN HORROR, PART 1 I had the absolute honor and pleasure of speaking to Sari about her role in Shudder's Original “Bloody Axe Wound” where as this movie has been categorized as a coming-to-age film. Although a mixed bag of nods to other horror movies, I would have to say that this movie is nothing short of a slashing prodigy. Sari nailed the role of Abbie, and her co-stars were in their absolute best by delivering to me what is one of the best horror comedies that has been offered in 2024. We spoke about her perspective of Abbie and what it was like to portray her along with what she thought was her inspirations to her role and the film. And she did admit that she is a Twilight fan, so acting alongside Billy Burke was a total fan girl's dream come true. Although she did present some challenges in the role and movie, all in all, I can see that she genuinely loved being a part of it. The only small detail that I was slightly disappointed with is that Jeffrey Dean Morgan didn't have a baseball bat with him in the opening scene. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and I highly recommend watching it as soon as you can. With the end scene of Sam resurrecting from the dead, there may be a sequel to this movie, and I truly hope that there is. Overall, it's a fun ride with a wild twist to the horror genre. 5 out of 5, no doubts.
Such a fun guest to have on the shows! Dani who stars in Jeff Wolfe's “Outbreak” – is such s phenomenal actress. As gifted as she is, I am not surprised that she landed this role. What is the movie about? Essentially, it's about a rabies outbreak. And the main character Neil Morris, played by Billy Burk (Twilight), experiences something that we would not normally see. For him, the death of his son altered his consciousness and made him believe that there was a rabies outbreak. Those who were supposedly infected had kung fu and reasoning skills – which is also something that we are not used to seeing. Dani breaks everything down in this interview: the thought process of Billy Burke's character, the makeup process, the stunt performers, and what it was like on set. We discussed zombie films and she admitted that it's not really her thing even though she did watch majority of the series, “The Walking Dead” and we also spoke about that for a little bit as well. All in all, the movie is great. It has a psychological twist at the end that explains everything by putting the pieces of the puzzle together. It's definitely a must watch for those who enjoy the sub-genres of zombies and psychological thrillers.

So many times we hear those mythical stories of a filmmaker who makes a short film and uploads it to YouTube in hopes of a big-time film producer sees it and comes down from Mount Hollywood and offers him or her a deal to turn that short into a studio feature. Today's guest had that happen to him and then some. On the show is writer/director David F. Sandberg.David's story is the "lottery ticket" moment I speak about so often on the show. His journey in Hollywood is remarkable, inspiring, and scary all at the same time. He created a short film called Lights Out. That short was seen by famed filmmaker and producer James Wan (Furious 7, Aquaman, The Conjuring) who offered to produce a feature film version at New Line Cinema. The feature version of the film was made for $5 million and grossed $150 million at the box office. Here's what the film is about. When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn't real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.The film stars Teresa Palmer (“Triple 9”) as Rebecca; Gabriel Bateman (“Annabelle”) as Martin; Billy Burke (the “Twilight” franchise) as Martin's father, Paul; Alexander DiPersia (“Forever”) as Rebecca's boyfriend, Bret; and Maria Bello (“Prisoners”) as Sophie. After the success of Lights Out he tackled the horror prequel Annabelle Creation. That film went on to make over $300 million at the box office with a $15 million budget.Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker's possessed creation, Annabelle. The studio Gods were pleased with David because he was offered New Line Cinema's Shazam!, the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV's “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV's “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Shazam! was a box office smash.David and I discuss his days making short films, which he still makes on the side, working in the studio system, his filmmaking philosophy, how he could afford a place to stay in Los Angeles while he was in pre-production on Lights Out and what it takes to make it as a filmmaker in today's world.Enjoy my conversation with David F. Sandberg.

Welcome to the Cursed Episode...aka the episode where Jess and Sandra almost lose the will to live, and Jess just straight up quits within the first 5 minutes of the pod. See, once upon a time, this episode did feature 3 hosts who cheerfully broke down Michel's collegial experience, debated Joe's and Sookie's intentions, and even discussed Billy Burke's mustache in detail, but that episode has been lost in the ether. So forced to (kind of) pull a Taylor Swift, this episode has been re-recorded, albeit minus one pregnant host who had to do some bed rest. Join Sandra and Jess as they try their hardest to do a podcast without Emily's wisdom (or zoom screen share). Also, in this episode: is Sookie a whore? Sheamus and Casey skip ahead to the 21st century with Twilight (2008), and debate the movie's contribution to vampire cinema to perhaps surprising conclusions. Is Edward Cullen a romantic vampire or a gross vampire? Is Bella Swan more Lois Lane or Tony Stark? Is Charlie Swan, as played by Billy Burke, the ultimate sad dad? These questions are more-or-less answered, and along the way Casey discloses how Robert Pattinson helped to shape the man that he is today, for better or for worse.
