Get ready to have the curtains pulled back on Catherine Hardwick's "Thirteen," a movie that holds a mirror up to adolescence with unsettling clarity. Guest co-host, MaxFun Producer Palmira Muñiz and I reflect on the emotional odyssey within this film's raw portrayal of youth, exploring the controversial layers of manipulation, survival, and the rocky landscape of female friendships. We also don't shy away from examining the ethical conundrums faced when young actors bring such vivid, and often painful, stories to life. It's a discussion that not only dissects the story on screen but also the broader implications it has within society and the film industry itself. But this episode isn't all heavy-hearted introspection; join us as we stroll down memory lane, reminiscing about SoCal school life and the cultural touchstones of the early 2000s. Palmira and I break down the trends that defined an era, from the infamous Skechers craze to the quirks of teenage rebellion. Tying it all together, we introduce fresh segments and insights that promise to keep you hooked and perhaps, see a bit of your own story reflected back at you. Stay tuned, follow the journey, and let's keep the conversation as authentic as the films we love. Director Catherine Hardwicke's latest film is MAFIA MAMMA, and you probably know her as the director of TWILIGHT, LORDS OF DOGTOWN, or THIRTEEN. But did you know that she got her start as a production designer, and that she production designed TANK GIRL? Well, this was after she got her degree in architecture. All this, plus dressing like a building, dealing with on-set toxic events, directing Monica Bellucci, and the kinds of characters she'd like to see on screen, come up in this sprawling conversation that reveals an artist as fun, badass, and idiosyncratic as the titular TANK GIRL.***With Jordan Crucchiola and Catherine Hardwicke
Parents everywhere are struggling to find pain and fever medicine for their children amidst the nationwide shortage of pediatric analgesics. As a result, Genexa, the first and only clean medicine company that makes OTC medicines for the entire family, has been approached by major retailers asking for more of its pediatric acetaminophen products to meet increased demand that cannot be fulfilled by other brands. Genexa's Infants' and Kids' Pain & Fever medicines are made with the same effective acetaminophen as Children's Tylenol®, but are free of all artificial fillers including dyes, artificial sweeteners, and artificial preservatives. As fierce advocates for clean medicine, the brand is experiencing unprecedented growth due to increased demand and short supply from competitors. Available in 60,000 storefronts in the US, Genexa is working with its retail partners and pediatricians across the country to call attention to the options consumers have with Genexa's clean acetaminophen products. Genexa's medicines do not use conventional, chemically derived inactive ingredients which are in high demand right now, allowing them to easily ramp up supply and deliver medicines people need most right now.
Clean medicine? What does that even mean?

The earlier 2010's was a… questionable time to be a teen. You have all day re-runs of Thirteen (2003) starting Nikki Reed and Rachel Evan Wood on lifetime, an ungodly amount of un-supervised time on the internet and angst. SO MUCH angst.Suddenly, you're 16, watching thirteen, scrolling through tumblr while blasting 'Shades of Cool' by Lana Del Rey, and watching her make out with that old man, and suddenly you're like...... "I'm not living." "No one gets me." "Where is the drama in my life?" On this episode our host discusses age gap relationships. She talks about her experience with them and when they are appropriate, if ever. She talks about how these relationships can stunt emotional and mental growth and leave you in a state of distrusts with yourself. Divine raises a few red flags she noticed in said relationships. Our host also discusses grooming, “To catch a predator”, and why as teenager's our hollow minds thought it was cool to date men who were in their twenties. So big fat, TRIGGER WARNING. We also discuss limerence, and ultimately reach the point in every conversation between women where we ask, “why are so many M3N serial killers?” So fun, :) instagram : https://www.instagram.com/vinephilo/https://www.instagram.com/vinephilo/twitter: https://twitter.com/vinephilo

https://youtu.be/TD41E8bvy3Q*******Brands That Have Done Customers WrongPart 1: https://youtu.be/LKeRURZPfikKRAVE BEAUTY-They were among the last to independently test their sunscreen for proof of efficacy. Unfortunately, their sunscreen (along with Purito, Klairs, Keep Cool, and many more) did not live up to the claims they made. On top of that, they refused to tell people what the results were, but still said “go ahead and use it, we still do.” Customers have a RIGHT to know what the tests came back as.Additionally, Krave's founder has seen her share of scandals relating to her personal life. Apparently she was a member of a church that has made some rather bigoted statements towards certain groups of people. More info on that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/mpyaqy/liah_yoo_founder_of_krave_beauty_is_a_member_of_a/KEEP COOL-This is yet another brand with a sunscreen that failed the SPF tests miserably. If that wasn't bad enough, Keep Cool went around threatening vloggers with civil and criminal lawsuits for discussing the results of their sunscreen testing. Instead of being humbled, Keep Cool went on the attack. Each and every chance they had to apologize and admit they did customers wrong, they instead doubled down, even with an “apology”tweet they made. Really left me feeling untrusting of this brand. JOHNSON & JOHNSON- (through the Neutrogena brand they showed up in part 1)In 2018, a Reuters investigative report exposed company knowledge of asbestos contamination in its talc products tracing back decades. Tests from different labs found asbestos in Johnson & Johnson's talc from 1971 to the early 2000s, and the company failed to report the findings to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.NARS-What happened with NARS? NARS used to be the ultimate brand of choice for cruelty-free makeup enthusiasts. But in 2017, it decided to cash in by expanding itself to the Chinese mainstream market. At one point, NARS says they don't support animal testing in any form. However, in the same document, they are allowing passive animal testing in the name of law enforcement. Many are still buying NARS in 2022 thinking it is cruelty- free, which it is not. It is so frustrating to see a good, cruelty free, prestige brand sink to these levels, although not totally uncommon (think First Aid Beauty). TIMELESS-This is a brand that I will frequently recommend for their vitamin c serum, which, I still do recommend to many because of the price, formula, and how they make batches fresh. Although, shame on them for not fixing the leaking bottle issue by now. I am glad they are using an air free packaging bottle, but the fact that they have known about this issue and have done nothing to fix the problem makes me upset. The leaking bottle makes it impossible to travel with, and it is wasteful as well as messy. I thought a bit more of them and thought that they would have fixed the issue by now. THE INKEY LIST-At first I was a fan, and they still have some decent products. The sad thing is that The Inkey List has really been behind their fast release of products based on current trends. I believe they stated they can have a product released from conception in less than two months. Trend following isn't a great thing, instead I wish brands focused on research & development when bringing new products to market. I also found their marketing of their retinol to be a bit shady, as well as targeting younger and younger audiences. Especially targeting retinol to teens, this sets a dangerous precedent, in my humble opinion.MOST CELEBRITY BRANDS-Kardashians, Scarlett Johanssen, JLO, Hailey Bieber, Paris Hilton (WTF), MDNA (madonna), Goop, Cindy Crawford, Christy Brinkley, Kesha, Mills Bobby Brown, Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham, Nikki Reed, Jackyln Hill, Lo Bosworth, etc. ******My second channel, for random things that don't fit here. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZwJQwh2qHT9qUrseCNasHg*******Podcast LinksApple - https://b.link/No_BS_Apple_PodcastGoogle - https://b.link/No_BS_Google_PodcastAmazon - https://b.link/No_BS_Amazon_PodcastSpotify - https://b.link/No_BS_Spotify_PodcastRSS - https://feeds.redcircle.com/671dd1b2-a989-41d5-94d5-30c014e06149********Sephora - https://fxo.co/1231867/sephoraUlta - https://fxo.co/1231867/ultaGeek and Gorgeous - https://iaff.geekandgorgeous.com/idevaffiliate.php?id=169&url=131 Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/shop/nobsbeautyYes Style - https://ys.style/kk2Vjrv798Style Korean - http://www.stylekorean.com/?af_id2=nobsbeautyDrmtlgy - https://www.drmtlgy.com/?ref=nobsbeautyThese are affiliate links if you purchase anything from one of these stores using this link No BS Beauty will make a small commission on what you buy.********www.noBSbeauty.com*******My Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/noBSbeauty*******PayPal Tip Jar - https://bit.ly/donate_NBSBIf you want to leave a tip ... Catherine Hardwicke had worked as a production designer for nearly two decades, crafting the look for such diverse films as I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, Tombstone, Tank Girl, and Three Kings, before shifting her focus to directing. It's not often the path people take, but clearly Hardwicke knew what she wanted and came at it with a unique story she co-wrote with Nikki Reed – her ‘surrogate daughter' as she describes her – about life as young teenage girls. The film Thirteen immediately caught attention because of how hard-hitting it was with depiction of thirteen-year-olds engaging in sexual behavior, doing drugs, and self harm through cutting. It also drew notice for how raw and realistic it was, and that intensity helped put Hardwicke on the map. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our Coming of Age Debuts series with Hardwicke's 2003 film Thirteen. Thirteen is a tough watch... but a good one. As fathers of daughters, this film pushes many of our buttons and makes us generally uncomfortable from start to finish. That being said, we can recognize the power in the dark places Hardwicke takes her characters. And she takes them to dark places. Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed shine as the two teens. Wood plays the teen eager to gain popularity only to fall in with the wrong person who introduces her to life on the edge. Reed – who co-wrote the script with Hardwicke when she was only 13 years old! – carries the challenge of being the draw for Wood's character but also the manipulation, lies, and life struggling in a broken home. The two teenagers excel in their roles. Holly Hunter plays Wood's mother and depicts the desire for friendship with the challenges of parenting to a tee. She rightly deserved her Oscar nomination and in our eyes, likely should have won. What did we think of the dad though? We have a bit of an argument about how the script portrays him and if it's realistic or not. With unique camerawork, editing techniques, coloring, and more, Hardwicke more than shows herself capable to handle this story. It's a tough film but powerful and worth watching. We have a fantastic conversation about it so check it out then tune in. The Next Reel – when the movie ends, our conversation begins! Today, Azora is speaking with Nikki Reed and Staci Inspektor. With backgrounds in the food + fashion industries, Atelier Saucier co-founders (and best friends) Nikki and Staci set out to combine their varied experiences and shared passion for hosting; and introduce a fresh, elevated perspective to all things table linens. Atelier Saucier is a modern tablescape design house for sustainable + customizable linens. Their brand ethos is to be eco. The planet is their priority. All of their linens are sustainably-sourced, rescued, repurposed and locally made in Downtown Los Angeles. They hand-pick surplus, premium fabrics so that no two styles of ‘kins are alike. Their small batch production process ensures no excess inventory or waste. ATELIER SAUCIER is where entertaining, dining and design intersect. This episode is part of our four-part series all about sustainable design, curated and hosted by Azora Zoe Paknad of Goldune. On this new FUTURE OF WOMEN Podcast series, Azora speaks with designers, journalists, and agroforestry entrepreneurs about sourcing products and developing supply chains in a way that respects the environment and communities that create them. NIKKI REED Never interested in playing dolls or dress up, rather looking to play “restaurant”, Nikki knew from a very young age that hospitality + business were in her future. After graduating from Cornell University's Hotel Administration School, she worked with Starwood Hotels and the Gramercy Park Hotel, parlaying that into a 7 year stint at the Hillstone Restaurant Group managing their restaurant operations in NYC, LA and AZ. With a successful hospitality career under her belt, Nikki joined New School, a progressive restaurant consulting firm and built a bench of high-profile clients. Sensing an industry need for elevated entertaining accoutrements and bespoke tablescapes, Nikki channeled her experience into building a brand of her own and thus, ATELIER SAUCIER was born. STACI INSPEKTOR Arts + crafts were Staci's passions as a child, so when her grandmother bought her a Husqvarna sewing machine at age 9, it was a harbinger of designs to come. Staci graduated from UC Davis Fashion Design School and quickly made a name for herself working with patternmakers and designing womenswear, swimwear + footwear for an LA-based fashion house. She gained first-hand experience in sourcing and production of materials and soon her love of design seamlessly transitioned her career in the direction of interiors and decor. Eager to blend her love of textiles with well-appointed home accessories, she co-founded ATELIER SAUCIER with the intention of creating meaningful and modern tabletop designs.
