Today's episode is going to be like none I've ever done before. It's an in person episode.Today's guest has known me longer than anyone else who will ever be a guest on my podcast. This is an episode that I've been so excited about for so long, but also a little nervous because of how important this person is to me. He's got an incredible track record as a lawyer over the last 30 plus years, and has spent many of those years as an entrepreneur. So I'm grateful for this opportunity to have a conversation that I believe will be one of the best, if not the best episode we will ever do for many reasons. My guest today is my dad, Brian McChesney. Brian's Bio:Brian is a partner in the St. Louis office of Rynearson, Suess, Schnurbusch & Champion, an experienced trial attorney with 30+ years of experience handling complex personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including automobile and commercial trucking accidents, fire and explosion cause and origin cases, construction and industrial accidents, defective and dangerous products, premises liability cases, and amusement park ride accidents. A polished trial attorney and respected member of the legal community, Brian is widely recognized for trying high-exposure cases to jury verdict. Bio: Brian was born a poet. Love of wisdom and adventure. A strong desire from a very young age to bring inspiration into the hearts of all readers of his poetry and all he crosses paths with. Only published on Facebook Poetry Society which is Brian's first created group on Facebook and his online poetry home yet, Brian has also created hundreds of more poetry groups on Facebook to create places where poets can come together and help each other learn and grow about our beloved craft of self-expression. Brian has recently discovered yoga and meditation that he is using to heal and transform as to put himself in a greater position to help humanity if be in a poem or just from shining his love into this world. Bio: Lindsey is a freelance illustrator, muralist, and event organizer living in Philadelphia, PA. She is also a poet and a yoga teacher. It was her connection to a vegan cafe she loves called Lightbox that made her start writing regularly and attending the open mics they hosted there every Friday night. Feeling as if it was her calling to do so, Lindsey hatched the idea of a zine ( a small paperback publication) called COLLIDE to further the range of the words that so deeply impacted her at these events. The idea for the project was to pair local visual artists with poets like the ones she met at Lightbox in a collaborative theme across two pages of the magazine. Each artist or writer featured in Collide's issues gets a place on the shelf of one of seven Philly bookstores, a feat even Lindsey is still shocked she was able to do since the project began in May 2022. Lindsey will talk more about the future of Collide and how creatives can apply (for free!) to be featured in Issue 3, debuting hopefully in mid to late February.

Today, we have a super fun conversation with Brian Schulmeister, the co-host of Grumpy Old Geeks podcast. We shared stories about music and what it was like doing websites for top bands and names in the industry. Of course, we got our grump on! We talk about what’s in the news: undersea data cables, A.I, data breach and many more! Websites For Music Artists Brian Schulmeister is the co-founder of Slender Fungus, a design company working primarily within the music industry. His vast experience in building websites landed him projects with big names such as Goo Goo Dolls, Alanis Morisette, Green Day, Coldplay and Rihanna, among others. He started his career way back in 1996 and he shared some interesting points on how he went on to pursue clients on his own. He also commented on the music industry at the present time and how consumers are consuming it so poorly. “The generation now and the way people experience music now is so shallow and disconnected from the artist and its singles. Spotify playlist through horrible headphones, it's just bad.” - Brian Schulmeister Grumpy, Angry and Too Depressed Brian Schulmeister is the co-host of the podcast Grumpy Old Geeks, with Jason DeFelippo. The podcast, which is included in Christopher’s Top 5 list, has originally started as a joke but the hosts later realized they were admittedly angry about a lot of topics. Brian admits he is angry and still is but they try to pepper the episodes with humor. “The funny thing is at one point I literally wanted to quit the podcast. I felt I was getting too grumpy, too angry, too depressed. I really did. In relation to technology topics, Christopher says that it is easy to be cynical and be fun and grumpy on technology but the reality is, technology has made the world a better place. It has created more opportunities and breakthroughs in the lives of human beings. “We are at a tipping point right now, at least for technology. We can very easily lose control of sh*t right now. Money Learnings:Parents provided some basics - on checking and savings accounts but not a lot of conversations around money. Brian parents did instill a work ethic in the kids.   Takeaway: You have to have the money conversation. The church choir leads and enlivens the congregation’s song2. The church choir sings music that the congregation cannot3. The church choir serves as a small-group within the church for faith formation4. The church choir sings beautiful and challenging music to praise God and edify the congregation When adopting these functions in that priority order, there are some very real consequences to how we function in the church.1. We cannot understand our role as the "choir director" anymore. We are that, but we're so much more.2. We cannot allow our choir members to understand their primary role as singing TO the congregation. They are singing WITH and FOR before they are singing TO.3. We cannot allow our choir to remain an isolated entity.4. We should not choose literature that the congregation can easily sing and just have the choir do it.5. We must lead, or find leaders from within the group, to spiritually nurture the ensemble.6.
