If you genuinely believe that you can't stop yourself from overeating with certain foods, we need to talk about that. Because that's not intuitive eating. So many people tell me, "If I ate intuitively I'd eat an entire package of cookies or bag of chips every day." NO YOU WOULDN'T…Not if you were doing intuitive eating correctly. Your body doesn't "intuitively" want to eat in a way that is excessive or makes you feel like crap. So if that's what is happening to you, then you're not an intuitive eater…YET. Let's fix this today. Episode Highlights - The major flaw in the evidence you're using to convince yourself that you can't be trusted with Oreos - Why the path through this requires you to EAT the Oreos, not avoid them. - Why intuitive eating often looks worse before it looks better. - The REAL goal we are aiming for…and it's not to eat fewer Oreos. It's much bigger than that. Today's Wellness Woo is the book "Always Hungry" by Dr. David Ludwig. You first heard Katie Parla on our show a couple years ago when we recorded a live episode at Omnivore Books (hi Celia!) in San Francisco to discuss her then-newest cookbook, Food of the Italian Islands. [Listen to that chat here.] Now, Katie's back with her 11th cookbook and it's a deep-dive into Roman history and cuisine. Born in New Jersey, Katie has called Rome home for more than two decades and she's been obsessed with uncovering the city's culinary—and non-culinary—history the whole time. She's written culinary guides, hosted TV shows and podcasts, showed folks like Stanley Tucci and Andrew Zimmern where to eat in Rome, and built a tour company. This new book distills much of what she's researched—and ate—into a 350+ page opus titled Rome: A Culinary History, Cookbook, and Field Guide to Flavors that Built a City. Part guide book, part history book, part cookbook—this is a love letter to the city that's been feeding people for over 2,700 years.Late last year, I met up with Katie for an evening tour of Trastevere. What struck my most about our conversation is how Katie approaches Roman food as not a static collection of recipes, but very much a living and evolving story that reflects everything the city has been through: ancient empire, Renaissance opulence, cucina povera, Jewish ghetto traditions, modern immigration, and more.--Additional Music Credits:Beat Mekanik - Stylin' (FreeMusicArchive) This is a public episode. The term "ultra-processed food" appeared nearly 100 times in the White House's Make America Healthy Again report. But what if the concept is too imprecise to guide real policy—and could even cause harm?Dr. David Ludwig—Harvard endocrinologist, obesity researcher, and author of Always Hungry—joins Dr. Dominic D'Agostino to dismantle the ultra-processed food framework from the inside out. Ludwig reveals why the NOVA classification system lumps protein bars with soda, why the FDA admitted they can't define what they're trying to regulate, and why the famous studies showing ultra-processed foods cause overeating may be fundamentally flawed. This conversation cuts through the noise to identify what actually matters: the mechanistic difference between processing carbohydrates, fats, and proteins—and why that distinction should reshape nutrition policy.Questions answered in this episode:Can ultra-processed foods be "fixed" through reformulation? What's the most overrated "healthy" food in supermarkets?Should omega-3 levels be part of standard blood work? Are GLP-1 drugs a metabolic reset or a lifelong crutch? If you could pass one food policy law, what would it be?Why did the low-fat diet era make obesity worse?Dr. Ludwig argues that "ultra-processed food" is a compelling marketing term without mechanistic grounding—and that precise, actionable targets like highly processed carbohydrates and demonstrably harmful additives would do far more to improve public health.Special thanks to the sponsors of this episode:✅ Fatty15 – Get 15% off a 90-day Starter Kit with code METABOLICLINK here.✅ Troscriptions – Get 10% off your first order with code METABOLICLINK here.✅ iRestore - Get a huge discount on the iRestore Illumina Face Mask when you use the code METABOLICLINK here.✅Genova Connect – Get 15% off any test kit with code METABOLICLINK here.In every episode of The Metabolic Link, we'll uncover the very latest research on metabolic health and therapy. What if “always hungry” wasn't about food at all? Heather sits down with author and registered clinical counselor Jane McGuinness to explore how she lost over 100 pounds and kept it off by healing emotional eating, listening to her body, and replacing rules with honest moderation. No magic diet, no all-or-nothing plan, no Ozempic—just time, self-compassion, and daily habits that fit a real life.Jane takes us back to the early roots of comfort eating, through motherhood, anxiety, and the moments that turned the pantry into a refuge. A chance encounter with Janine Roth's work reframed everything, helping her name feelings, pause before autopilot snacking, and build a practice of mindful eating that still guides her today. We get practical about what actually worked: walking and biking for consistent movement, meals anchored by protein and fiber, seasonal foods, and light-touch tracking that focuses on monthly trends instead of daily judgment. She shares how yoga and meditation deepened her connection to hunger and fullness cues, especially through perimenopause, and how choosing joy outside the kitchen—hobbies, nature, learning—quieted food obsession.Beyond the plate, we confront "thin privilege" and weight bias head-on. Jane explains how losing weight changed how the world treated her and why that fueled her memoir, Always Hungry, a funny, raw, and compassionate account of emotional eating, identity, and real change. Expect candid insights on alcohol and sugar, “moderation” as a practice of honesty, and why quick fixes rarely teach the skills that make health sustainable. If you've ever felt stuck between diets and despair, this conversation offers a clear path forward: trust your signals, move in ways you enjoy, build meals that satisfy, and meet yourself with kindness. In today's episode, I want to talk about something I see all the time with the women I coach — and it's one of the most misunderstood experiences around food. You notice that you're always hungry…Or you notice that no matter how much you eat, you never truly feel full or satisfied. At first, those sound like the same problem. But biologically, hormonally, and emotionally — they are very different. And when we can learn to tell the difference, we finally gain access to the tools that actually help us heal.Always Hungry vs. Never Satiated— Why This MattersI want you to tune into this distinction with curiosity, not judgment:Always feeling hungry is driven by your hunger hormone, ghrelinNever feeling satisfied is driven by your satiety hormone, leptinWhen these hormones are out of balance, it can feel like:You just ate, but you're still craving foodYou're physically full, yet you can't stop eatingFood occupies your thoughts constantlyYou feel disconnected from your body's signalsNothing is wrong with you. This is your nervous system and hormones communicating. Why Knowing What to Do Isn't the ProblemYou already know what to eat.You already know what you should be doing. The problem isn't information. The problem is that most eating behaviors are governed by the unconscious mind, not the conscious one. When stress, emotion, or overwhelm shows up, your conscious mind goes offline — and your unconscious mind runs the patterns it has learned. I call this the loop. That's why:Diets work temporarilyWillpower fails under stressYou feel like you're “on” or “off” the wagonThis isn't a motivation issue. It's a nervous system issue.Cortisol: The Hormone That Drives the CycleAt the center of this conversation is cortisol — your primary stress hormone. When cortisol is high:Sugar cravings increaseInsulin stays elevatedFat storage is prioritizedSleep becomes disruptedHunger and satiety signals become confusedWhen your body doesn't feel safe, it will always choose survival over satisfaction. And dieting — restriction, tracking, constant vigilance — raises cortisol.Ghrelin, Leptin & Why You Can't “Just Stop Eating”Ghrelin signals hunger when your stomach is empty.Leptin signals fullness from your fat cells. In a regulated system, they work in opposition. But under chronic stress, restriction, lack of sleep, or emotional overwhelm:Ghrelin stays elevatedLeptin signals stop being receivedYou develop leptin resistanceThis is why you can feel painfully full — and still keep eating. That's not lack of control. That's biology. Why Dieting Has Never Fixed the ProblemDieting focuses on the symptom — weight — instead of the cause. When you diet:Cortisol risesMetabolism slowsMuscle mass is lostHunger hormones increaseBinge-restrict cycles intensifyYour body only releases fat when it feels safe — not when it feels threatened.Fat loss is a side effect of regulation, not restriction. The Path Forward: Safety, Not ControlHealing begins when you:Stop outsourcing your wisdom to the scaleLearn to regulate your nervous systemAddress emotional triggers instead of suppressing themRebuild trust with your bodyThis is the work we do inside Make Peace With Food. And it's why this approach is different from everything you've tried before. You are not broken.Your body is communicating. And healing is possible.Listen to more episodes at makepeacewithfood.com/podcast or subscribe on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and YouTube.Listen to more episodes at www.makepeacewithfood.com/podcast or subscribe to me on Spotify, Podcast, and YouTube so you never miss an episode!Join my Facebook Community: www.myfoodfreedomlifestyle.com Work with me: www.sherryshaban.com/transform Go deeper: www.makepeacewithfood.com Share your biggest takeaway and tag me on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn

“I just ate... why am I STILL starving?" If you've said this more than once, your body is actually trying to tell you something. Here's what most moms don't realize: It's not about willpower. It's not about eating more. It's about what you're actually putting on your plate. The truth is, you could be eating the "right" foods and still feel like a bottomless pit because your meals are missing one critical element and it doesn't necessarily have to do with calories . In this week's episode, Brooke breaks down: Why your hunger is actually WORSE now than during pregnancy (and what's really causing it) The #1 nutrient that keeps you full between meals (most moms are completely missing this) The biggest breakfast mistake that's sabotaging your entire day How to build a plate that actually satisfies you without obsessing over food The best part? You don't have to give up your favorite foods or your milk supply to feel nourished and strong.
In this powerful conversation, Jane McGuinness breaks down what emotional hunger really is—and why so many of us try to fill our inner wounds with food, perfectionism, or people-pleasing. Blending her clinical expertise with her lived experience, Jane takes us deeper into the topics of self-worth, identity, mindfulness, and the truth about healing. If you've ever struggled with emotional eating, body image, shame, or the pressure to "be enough," this episode will hit home. Jane shares how her book Always Hungry was born out of honesty, vulnerability, and the desire to help others understand the real roots of emotional eating. She opens up about slim privilege, the pain of being treated differently in a larger body, and the moment she realized her hunger was never about food—it was about unmet emotional needs. In this episode of the Equestrian Performance Mindset Podcast, I and Lorna dive into one of the most thought-provoking questions we've received: How can you feel proud of where you are, yet never truly feel “pleased”? Together, we explore the balance between confidence and growth, the seesaw of being proud of your progress while still striving for more. You'll discover why “never pleased” doesn't have to mean negative self-talk, and how to reframe it into a powerful drive that fuels your riding and your personal development. What you'll learn in this episode: Why pride protects your confidence and reinforces your identity as a rider. How to turn mistakes into growth opportunities without beating yourself up. The difference between “never pleased” and “hungry for more.” Why words like but can sabotage your mindset, and the simple reframe that keeps you motivated. How to recognize signs of progress (they're always there if you look for them). If you've ever struggled with feeling “never enough,” this conversation will help you shift your perspective, protect your confidence, and harness your hunger to keep growing. Resources Mentioned:

It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." -Galatians 2:20

That nonstop mental chatter is called food noise, and it's more common (and more frustrating) than people realize. In this episode, I break down: • What food noise is and how it shows up • Why GLP-1 meds like Ozempic reduce it—but aren't the only option • The real reasons you're always hungry (hint: it's not just willpower) • How under-eating, poor sleep, stress, and emotional eating crank up the noise • Why mindful eating, meal timing, and balanced nutrition make a huge difference • How to build awareness and finally stop letting food run your lifeWhether you're working on fat loss, trying to heal your relationship with food, or just sick of the constant cravings—this one's for you.

Christmas is almost upon us, and before we ring in the New Year with our GOTY picks, it's time for us here at the Indieventure podcast to pour ourselves a generous glug of mulled wine and reflect on the year as a whole as it pertains to indie games. Has it been a good year for indies? How did it stack up against previous years – especially the wall-to-wall hit machine that was 2023? And, putting personal preferences aside (because we'll be digging into that in-depth in our next episode, don't worry) what have been the biggest indie games of the year? Naturally expect Balatro, 1000xRESIST, Hades 2, and Pacific Drive to get a lot of airtime in this one, as well as Silksong (still conspicuous in its absence as we head into 2025). We also look back over our most-anticipated games from the start of the year, checking in with what came out, what got delayed, and what landed unexpectedly (or not) from a list that included Anger Foot, Creepshow, Crow Country, Demonschool, Europa, Loco Motive, Lost Records, The Mermaid Mask (née The Mermaid's Tongue), Rise of the Golden Idol, Sucker for Love 2, Synergy, Thank Goodness You're Here!, and Tiny Bookshop. And then – just in case you thought we were going to be if anything a bit too sensible in this one – an old friend returns to deliver a self-indulgent quiz! There's really no point in outlining the premise here, just trust us when we say that it has to be heard to be believed. We end, as always, with our current hyperfixations! Rebecca has been defying gravity thanks to the Wicked movie, Rachel has been reading a stack of queer fiction (specifically Julia Armfield's Salt Slow, Eliza Clark's She's Always Hungry and Rachel Yoder's Nightbitch), while Liam has turned his attention to the skies - and the places it leads - with Mark Vanhoenacker's Imagine A City. Feeling out of control around food can feel incredibly scary and uncomfortable. Often we blame ourselves; “I have no control! What's wrong with me?!”. Maybe there is a better way to feel better around food, and maybe it has little to do with control, […] The post Why Am I Always Hungry, And Feel Out Of Control Around Food?
