EMDR, or eye movement desensitization reprocessing, is a powerful tool for treating PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) and various mental health disorders. Studies have shown that it can be more effective and works faster than CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), the mainstay treatment in therapy. A 2014 review of 24 studies concluded that EMDR could help relieve emotional distress after adverse experiences, work more quickly and effectively than trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and help ease somatic symptoms, like pain or muscle tension. The problem is that EMDR can be expensive and very difficult to access. That's why I was so excited to talk to Jeff Tejcek if virtual EMDR. Jeff has created a program where everyone can do EMDR in the comfort of their own home anytime they want at a fraction of the cost. Jeff Tejcek founded the Virtual EMDR self-guided therapy program after his own experience with EMDR changed his life completely. Diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) stemming from childhood abuse and neglect, Jeff struggled with anxiety, uncontrollable emotions, and self-esteem issues. He set out to transform the traditional EMDR therapy process so that anyone could use EMDR's life-transforming power regardless of their income or ability to access a therapist. Virtual EMDR eye movement therapy is a first-of-its-kind program that clients can use on their own and without the need for a therapist to be present. Starting with the simple goal of creating an online EMDR therapy program that might be able to help struggling people, he never dreamed he would make a career out of it, much less start an EMDR therapy company. Jeff's strong vision for online EMDR therapy has since been successful beyond his wildest expectations, and the Virtual EMDR company now routinely provides thousands of EMDR sessions each month, more than any other organization in the world. Virtual EMDR's programs are designed to change the lives of people struggling with PTSD and trauma, depression, addictions, anxiety, phobias, and grief and loss symptoms. Through his philanthropy work, Jeff has been able to provide completely free EMDR access to thousands of military veterans, law enforcement officers, first responders, and even front-line healthcare workers during the peak of the COVID 19 pandemic. Jeff is a husband, parent, American ex-patriot, and world traveller.

We've been talking a lot recently about depression, cognition, and Multiple Sclerosis. It makes sense that, as MS can affect the brain, it's probably going to change what's going on up there. But it's still a relatively recent idea that physical changes to the brain are going to affect the way we feel, how we think, and how we interact with others. My guest today is Dr. Anthony Feinstein, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and a neuropsychiatrist. His research and clinical work focuses on people with multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and Conversion Disorder. He's also the author of the book,  Mind, Mood, and Memory: The Neurobehavioral Consequences of Multiple Sclerosis. In this interview, we talk about how he became interested in working with people with MS, how changes to the brain can worsen cognitive issues and levels of depression, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as a means to manage the way we think and behave, and what patents can do to maintain their brain health.I always say, Move It Or Lose It - but in this case, it could be Use It Or Lose It. And Dr. Feinstein gives us examples of things we can do to keep our brains healthy.Links and resources:Connect with Dr. Anthony Feinstein at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and University of TorontoBuy Mind, Mood, and Memory: The Neurobehavioral Consequences of Multiple Sclerosis by Dr. FeinsteinYou can find Kathy Chester atdisruptfitnessgym@gmail.com moveitorloseit109@gmail.com Instagram - @msmoveitorloseit @disruptfitnessgymHere are some additional products that help Kathy deal with beating the Heat and Migraines.  Take advantage of the coupon code.Koldtec - Cool Head WrapKOLD10To save $10 off every item in-store.2 items = $20 savings3 items = $30 savingshttps://www.koldtec.com/ Cold bean bag Releafpack. 15% discount use code Disrupt15https://www.releafpack.com

Simona Stokes is an experienced counselling psychologist who uses CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) to help people with stress, depression and anxiety. After 20 years working in the NHS and voluntary sector, she then founded her own clinic in Birmingham, and has developed an interest and specialist knowledge in helping women with the emotional and psychological challenges of the peri/menopause. Simona's personal experience of hormonal changes hit her hard and this led her to develop and successfully implement the psychological tools she had at her disposal to support her own journey and made her realise many women need help to understand the impact their hormones have on their moods, thoughts and emotions. In discussion with Dr Louise Newson, Simona explains the power of estrogen as our primary fuel and the problems that can arise when estrogen falls. She explains the difference in perimenopausal depression compared to general depression, what CBT is and how it can help women at this time of life that can often be a pinch-point on our emotions. Simona advises how to look after yourself and your emotions and elaborates on why so many women feel a sense of loss of one's role, of identity, and loss of purpose at this time. Simona's advice for women experiencing emotional challenges: Menopause is unavoidable but suffering is optional. CBT helps us to change the narrative we create about the difficulties we're facing, and allows us to let go of the struggle against the changes we're feeling. An attitude of compassion, kindness and curiosity to yourself will help you understand your difficult emotion in a more helpful way than being harsh, self- critical, and just wanting a feeling to go away. It's really important to make peace with all your emotions. We've been conditioned to think that difficult emotions are undesirable and we must strive to feel happy and grateful. Increase your openness to difficult emotions and this will help you be more resilient and emotionally ‘fit' to cope with your peri/menopause. ‘Emotion follows motion', so engage in physical activity, even if you don't feel like it, as physical activity is a powerful tool to change how you feel. Use your body to calm down your mind either through breathing and relaxation techniques or getting out there and being active. Simona's clinic and website details can be found here. The ‘Meno D' rating scale to detect depression that Simona refers to can be found here. If you would like to access psychological therapies via the NHS explore your options here.   You can find Simona on her social media pages a: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/menopausecbtclinic/    Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/ThrivingBeyond40

Throughout my journey, I've come to realize there were two main aspects holding me back from progress. Those aspects were a lack of clarity and a deep understanding of our sub conscious. I found myself battling stagnation even though I had such big dreams and desires.  In today's episode we have a discussion built on 3 quotes by Dr. David Burns (A psychotherapist who specializes in CBT- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). The discussion will bring new insights on what this confusion might be in your life, and how to take the necessary actions to ensure stagnation is no longer an issue.  I hope you enjoy this episode!:)

How do cannabis and CBD interact with anxiety? We're really excited to welcome Dr. Rebecca Moore to the show this week to discuss the big topic of anxiety and how cannabis can help with some of the symptoms. Dr. Moore is a consultant psychiatrist who has a variety of roles including practicing at The Medical Cannabis Clinic on Harley Street in London. Join us as we discuss how cannabis can help chronic anxiety, dosing for anxiety, delivery methods, and upcoming clinical studies.About Dr. Rebecca MooreDr Moore is a consultant psychiatrist working privately in London with an expertise in medical cannabis prescribing and women's health in particular birth trauma. She is the co founder of Make Birth Better, a national collaborative around birth trauma and an avid proponent of holistic and personalised care for all her clients including cannabis and cad prescribing where appropriate alongside therapy, diet, exercise, supplements and kindness. Episode SummaryDr. Moore's areas of specialism include Perinatal Psychiatry with an expertise around birth and trauma.Dr Moore's interest in CBD and Medical Cannabis began in Stanford, USA where she was visiting on a research trip. Her interest grew due to the widespread and open conversations people were having in the USA, along with ease of access.Dr. Moore's patient care philosophy includes being able to offer all options and choices, one of which is Cannabis. Traditional psychiatric medication does not always work for everybody, its use often paired with debilitating side effects and stigma. In the USA, there is a real desire to create evidence around the uses of medical cannabis, as a clinician this is very important.Anxiety is a term which is used very commonly, but means something different to each person. Anxiety is an umbrella term - specific types of anxiety include social anxiety, panic disorder, and medical anxiety. You do not need to have a clinical diagnosis of anxiety for it to affect your daily life.Symptoms of anxiety include: feeling nervous, restless or tense, an increased heart rate, sweating, feeling weak, trouble concentration and feeling fearful. Many people experience anxiety as physical symptoms, which can include a feeling that there is a lump in your throat, tension headaches, a dry mouth or getting sweaty. Treatments for anxiety include talking therapies and medications. There is a very large evidence base for the success of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) with anxiety.Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or SSRIs are the most commonly prescribed medications for anxiety. They are also used to treat major depressive disorder.Dr. Moore suggests that CBD can be used as one of many components or strategies to alleviate symptoms of anxiety. Other examples include exercise, sleeping for long enough, and eating well. Dr. Moore has used medical grade CBD products with many of her anxiety patients which have shown incredible, life changing results. She has also seen great results in menopausal women.Dr. Moore's clinical practice has shown that some people experience a state of over alertness when using CBD, a symptom which can be mitigated with changing doses and times of the day administered. For anxiety, a dose of 100mg per day of CBD is often prescribed, which is taken in divided doses in a tincture form. CBD is often taken through a vape for short term, immediate release such as in patients with pain, whereas a tincture is more often taken in patients with anxiety who need sustained relief.Consuming cannabis long term can lead to cannabis induced psychosis and increased anxiety in some people - it is important to remember that those experiencing these symptoms are only on one side
