The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas is a 1982 musical comedy film based on the stage musical of the same name. Directed by Colin Higgins, it followed the "Chicken Ranch" brothel located in Lanville County, widely accepted and traditionally beloved by the small town of Gilbert, but faced with closure upon its discovery by a TV morality watchdog. The cast featured Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Jim Nabors, and the singularity-altering, reality-warping presence otherwise known as Charles Durning. In 1926 in a town formally known as Wineville (now called Mira Loma), a horrible monster named Stewart had a chicken ranch built and forced his young nephew, Sanford, to help him in this endeavor. Sanford was forced to endure torture, physical and mental abuse, and rape from 1926 to 1928. Sanford thankfully is able to escape his nightmare in the end and Uncle Stewart also gets what is coming to him. I pry deeper into the subject with legal courtesan, sexual educator, and sex work advocate, Alice Little, onto the show this week. I can't believe it's taken me this long to record and episode on the legalization of sex work. I know that I advocate for the decriminalization of sex work, but I also think it is fair that we hear from those who are working in a legal capacity. That's why I was so excited when I got the opportunity to interview with Ariel Ganja, a legal courtesan based in the state of Nevada, in the USA. Ariel works at the famed Chicken Ranch just outside of Las Vegas which is a legal, licensed brothel. I was very curious and had SO many questions on what life was like at the Ranch. Ariel and I discuss everything under the sun from what her regular day-to-day looks like, room and board, what she is allowed to bring into the Ranch, how the line up works for clients, picking and choosing and of course, what her stance is on legalization vs. decriminalization.
