Starlight Thursdays Episode 172 Welcome Captain Marlinn to the series. We have something special to share. This mix is made of 100% original produced tracks by Captain Marlin. It's also his first time recording an “All Original” mix. We feel extra honored to have this recording in our series. Q:         How long have you been DJing? A:         I first got my hands on a DJ controller back in 2018, but it wasn't until the end of 2020 that I decided to take my passion for DJing more seriously. Q:         Why did you get into it? A:         My journey into the world of DJing and producing was ignited at Harvest Fusion 2016, my very first music festival. From that moment on, it became an obsession. Music has always been close to my heart, having played the guitar since I was 5 years old. Unfortunately, arthritis struck me at a young age, halting my guitar playing days. But then, EDM and dubstep entered my life, and I knew I had found my new musical path. Q:         What events have you played? A:         This year has been a turning point for me, as I just started getting booked by other promoters and production companies. I've had the pleasure of playing at Digital Renegades '23, “The Static Void Campout” in Idaho, and “Forest Creatures 6”. I had the pleasure of playing on the stages of “Temple Sound”, “Annunaki Sound”, “Ubuntu Productions”, and “Stormbornsounds” Additionally, I've been organizing my own private and public events since 2021 under the banner of Wook Mafia, a passion project co-founded by myself and smokeA:M. Some of the events we put on were "Big Sky Bass" and "Last Chance Bass Therapy." I also have been working with the Butte Action Alliance & the Susan Wicklund Fund to help raise money for women to get abortions who cant afford the travel, medical, and housing costs associated with it. Q:         Where are you from? A:         I was born and raised in Helena, MT, but now I call Butte my home. Q:         What inspires you? A:         My initial inspiration came from attending shows and being captivated by the incredible sounds other artists were creating. Today, it's the support and love I've received towards my music that keeps me going. Witnessing people's reactions when they hear my tracks booming through massive systems fuels my creative fire. Q:         What genres are in your mix? A:         I love experimenting with different genres, and my mix is a fusion of Deep Dub, Grime, Neuro Bass, Glitch-Hop, and Trap. Some of the artists who inspire my music include but are not limited to; shwiLLy, nnamba, TKYO, ill.Gates, and Resonant Language. Q:         A few words about your mix? A:         This mix holds a special place in my heart as it marks the first time I've crafted an hour-long mix comprised entirely of my original tunes. It took me just over a year of almost daily music production to reach this milestone, and I couldn't be prouder of what I've achieved.   I just announced that I'll be hosting a show at "The Cavalier Lounge" in Butte, MT, on August 30th from 10PM-1AM. Starlight Thursdays 159 Featuring Luna Bear. 3 years ago a friend of his with a set of old CDJs offered him the opportunity to learn and the rest was history. Although known for his ability to widely span many different genres, Luna Bear's love for halftime deep dub and bass music are what keep driving him forward and further into the industry. As the owner/founder of Ubuntu Productions based out of Billings, MT he is always hosting local events, and is regularly involved with other local and regional events as well. He's also been playing a monthly Ecstatic Dance event for over a year now at Studio Soul in Billings. He's played a handful of events for Foundation Entertainment and Music Lives Here in Bozeman, MT as well as sharing the stage with local and regional artists including Beautiful Existence, DAWge, ET3, Danktech, and more. In the infancy of his own personal journey as an electronic producer, he looks forward to learning even more about the industry and creating his own music. A few words from Luna Bear. I've been in the music world for most of my life, but DJing was the first musical art that gave me full control over all the different things and ideas I wanted to try going on in my head musically. Dutchie Gold meets Kaleya - Been There And Seen [DUB049] http://www.dubophonic.com https://hypeddit.com/ovpnux Kaleya was born in Athens, Greece and started his music journey as a guitarist. He has been involved in various bands and projects, such as Bongo Tchaka, Musinair, Kilimanjaro and as a bass player in Remi & The Road and Los Dos O Mas. He is aslo DJ playing at various reggae/dub events and is a member of Reggaewise Selectors, Origins Soundsystem and Bliondy's Mini Sound. In 2018, he started hosting his own podcast Kosmos Dub Factory on Kosmos FM, one of the most popular radio stations in Greece. Dutchie Gold was born in Mandeville/Jamaica and started working with the sound systems of his neighborhood as a teenager. He worked with Junior Reid, Shaggy Dread, General Trees, Professor Nuts & more. His recording career started in 1991 with Gold Gun and followed by works with Junior Reid label, The Washington DC based label 2 Tuff, and the legendary New York sound system/ label Massive B. In 1994, he recorded his first album entitled Dutchie Gold in Germany, which led him to work with artists like Error Dunkley, Michael Prophet, Nado Ranks & others. Further tracks were released on German Reggae Compilations and in 2006 he released the album Mission To Righteousness. Wosui is the Deep Dub solo project of Gabriel Mentis (Reggaewise, Urban Danja), born in 1987 and based in Athens, Greece. Having a classical music studies background, playing the violin and participating in school bands, he discovered cubase and started making his own beats. From 2008 to 2018 he was the member Dub Riots alongside iGL, a Reggae-Dub producing and live duo. In 2012 he started the project Wosui, a journey to the world of deep echoes, dub and soundsystem aesthetics, along with low frequencies basslines. He has released music for labels such as Dub Communication, Iron Shirt, Dubophonic, Indigo Movement and others. He has organized many events and headlined all over Greece, including international guests such as Radikal Guru, Leon Switch, Mexican Stepper, Skarra Mucci and many others. Dutchie and Kaleya met in 2020 when Dutchie visited Greece for an event with El Paso Soundsystem. The night before the event, they recorded the track at Bliondy's Sound Station. The following months, 2 dub versions were created, following the original version. Wosui then joined the family to produce a remix and a dub version of the original track. The history of Jamaican Dub music is rich and fascinating. Dub grew out of reggae in the 1960s, and evolved well beyond its popular parent. It was a studio craft where producers created instrumental remixes of reggae tracks by removing the vocals, adding echo, reverb and delay, and dubbing in new ambient sounds. Essentially, Dub was an early form of popular electronic music. If you think all this had something to do with cannabis, you'd be understating the case. In a 1982 essay, LUKE EHRLICH said: "With dub, Jamaican music spaced out completely. If reggae is Africa in the New World, then dub must be Africa on the moon; it's the psychedelic music I expected to hear in the 1960s...and didn't. The bass and drums conjure up a dark, vast musical portrait of outer space, with sounds suspended like glowing planets or the fragments of instruments careening by, leaving trails like comets and meteors." Dub was a natural link to later electronic genres like techno, ambient, trip hop and electronic dance music.
