This week’s episode was recorded on September 18th, 2016. The show this week features guests Nick and Kate to talk about politics in comic books. The topic meanders a bit, but the ultimate discussion of how politics are handled, presented, inserted, and masked in comics is discussed. This may seem heavy, but, on the whole, it’s a fun talk about how we as comic fans read into stories. This month for the on-location recording at Collected Comics and Games in Plano, TX, the discussion table is rather crowded. Derek is joined by many of the regular Collected customers -- Craig, Matt, and Nick -- but joining the conversation for the first time are Tristan, Chris, and Carrie, as well as Brian, the shop's newest associate. The talk begins with Craig's recounting of his own experiences at this year's San Diego Comic-Com, but then it segues into a discussion of recent comics that folks have been reading. Some of those titles include Grant Morrison's Klaus, Divinity II, Black Hammer, Backstagers, Giant Days, Voltron Legendary Defender, Fight Club 2, Black Panther, Wonder Woman, and various Brian K. Vaughan titles. They also discuss several comics-related Netflix shows, DC's upcoming Young Animal series, and writers in other media who have tried their hands in comics. Needless to say, this is a packed episode with a full table of participants and plenty of topics to go around.
We stayed up way too late and ranted about another 40 new issues of comics - highlights include a new Batgirl #1, Archie #10 and the one-two punch of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl/Howard the Duck. Lowlights include the fatigue from reading more DC titles than we ever have in our lives and the fatigue that comes from recording an episode after midnight. This week’s episode was recorded on June 5th, 2016. Guests Nick and Kate join Mike to talk about comic book adaptations of prose books and whether or not we really think they’re good or not. How do you deal with narration? Where does prose description become art? And why, oh why, did they adapt Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep the way they did? Another Previews catalog showed up on their doorsteps, so it's time to gaze into the tomorrow of April 2016 and see what catches Mike and Greg's eyes. Dark Night! Black Panther! Mike Mignola's Amazing Screw-On Head! Over The Garden Wall! Heavy Metal! Divinity II (the Second Coming?)! The Making Of! Alternative Comics (again, just the publisher)! Micronauts! Dept. H! Dungeons & Dragons! Irmina! 5000 Km Per Second! Sooner or Later! Unfollow! All that, plus the full breadth of IDW's Ninja Turtle output, the difficulty of proper cover credits, making sense of Power Fist, finally giving Natasha Romanov her due, who Grant Morrison is really giving the finger to on that “Heavy Metal” cover, the knife in the water, and so much more! When CDV approached The Mediajuice Team to handle the Divinity II: Ego Draconis campaign, we were very excited. Divinity II is a very unique game with tons of great features and a very intriguing story, so coming up with concepts and creative for it was a real pleasure. The Mediajuice team handled turnkey creative and production for 3 Retail Exclusive Trailers, a full TV campaign, The Official Launch Trailer, Print campaign and all the online ads for Divinity II. In addition we produced a 9 part exclusive vignette series which has been well received online. In the end the client was very pleased and Mediajuice did what we do best! Check out a behind the scenes look at all we produced for Divinity II by watching the video.
Join the regular crew along with Area5.tv's Matt Chandronait as we discuss your twitter topics (the good ones we didn't get to last week), as well as games and letters. Some of the games discussed include the newest Ratchet game, Divinity II, Star Trek Online, and some non-spoilery Dragon Age talk. Enjoy!
The retail gaming industry may have taken the last two weeks off, but the Signed In crew still has plenty of gaming to talk about! On the Indie Games front Craig takes Pixel Whirled for a spin, the Arkedo Series folks put out another winner with PIXEL!, Sean and Craig battle zombies in Twin Blades, and everybody has fun making copies in Office Politics. Then it's on to XBLA where everybody gave 0 day Attack on Earth a try, Jeremy finally sits down with The Maw, and Craig goes old school with Doom. A handful of demos are discussed including Lego Indiana Jones 2, Dante's Inferno, and Divinity II, Sean talks music gaming DLC, Jeremy dips into the recently released Borderlands DLC Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, and both Craig and Jeremy offer up some more thoughts on The Saboteur. All of this, and a full second half featuring everybody's most anticipated games of 2010!E-mail us at signedinpodcast@gmail.com! Check out the PseudoRadio Productions website hub and join in the discussions on the forums! You can also follow Signed In on Twitter!
The last podcast of 2009 is here! Making the epic finale of the year, the crew talks about recent releases like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, Divinity II: Ego Draconis, and also an early look at ModNation Racers Beta. The news is limited - a puzzle game analysis with shocking results, Mass Effect 2's import data explained, Modern Warfare 2 wins an award this year other than Best Shooter, and more. As far as year-end specials go, this one smacks down the info with a giant hand of doom!
