Host Anthony Desiato and guest Bill Maio dig into comic book creator Frank Miller's interpretation of Superman across his Dark Knight Universe, with a specific focus on SUPERMAN: YEAR ONE (drawn by John Romita Jr.) and DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE (co-written by Brian Azzarello and drawn by Andy Kubert). This is a sequel to Anthony and Bill's recent "Superman as goverment stooge" episode, which considered Superman in the context of DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN. BONUS: Includes a special 15-minute preview of the DIGGING FOR JUSTICE: A DC FAN JOURNEY, Anthony's Patreon-exclusive podcast, featuring a discussion of the 1989 BATMAN film with Fat Moose Comics owner Shawn Hendricks. Thomas Thorhauge ELSKER The Dark Knight Strikes Back, fortsættelsen til Frank Millers mesterværk. Marvel-Morten ... tja, HADER er et stærkt ord. Men. Ikke fan. Til gengæld kan de to og Kim Helt blive enige om Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Velkommen til SIDSTE del af vores BAT-adventskalender!

BURN OINTMENT is an appendix series offering recommendations for further reading and general chatter inspired by the main episodes of the OH GOD IT BURNS!!! series. If you're looking for a full length discussion of Dark Knight III: The Master Race, go back and take a listen to our previous episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message
You know, it was only a matter of time before DC got wise to the fact that they didn’t really need Frank Miller to either write, plot, or be in any reasonable way creatively involved with a book for them to still make money off of it. All they needed was his precious, precious name, so just as our great Cheeto in Chief had once licensed his name off to towers, water bottles, and steaks, DC would do the same with old Frankie and pay him for his most valued asset – his name. After all, the company had been grooming its very own Frank Miller in a lab for years, and with the demand for sequels to beloved properties sky high, it was time to unleash Brian Azzarello so they could put that leash on Frank. Dark Knight III: The Master Race succeeds in being a thoroughly competent follow-up to the original Dark Knight Returns, albeit missing all of the familiar insanity of its predecessors. Adam Kubert is on art doing his best Miller impersonation, and after a few issues (and a few very honest interviews where Miller flat out admitted that he had no involvement with the story), Frankie was even brought on to deliver some honestly stunning artwork and pen the back-up stories. You’ve seen him at his best. You’ve seen him broken. You’ve seen him angry. But you’ve never seen Frank Miller quite like this before: under adult supervision. So get ready to hit the back-issue bins and snap up the series destined to restore balance to your coveted Longbox of Cursed and Forgotten Comics on this week’s rejuvenating episode of OH GOD IT BURNS!!! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ohgoditburns/message

While the world debates the merits (or lack thereof) of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Adrian and his Canadian compadre Aidan Wilson discuss another controversial Batman story. Legendary comic book creator Frank Miller is best known for some noteworthy comics from a run on Daredevil to The Dark Knight Returns to the infamous graphic novel Holy Terror. Considering the fallout from the latter title, there was some concern that The Dark Knight III: The Master Race would be more of the same. How does the story stack up to the iconic original? Which iteration of Batman is the definitive version? Is Frank Miller the "racist uncle" version of George Lucas? These are among several questions that are answered in the latest episode of Adrian Has Issues! This and every episode can be found on iTunes and the Stitcher app, available for Android and iOS. Please subscribe and leave a rating and review. Doing so helps the podcast reach more potential listeners. As always, thank you for your support! DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE #2 COLLECTOR’S EDITION Written by FRANK MILLER and BRIAN AZZARELLO Art by ANDY KUBERT and KLAUS JANSON Cover by JIM LEE On sale JANUARY 6 • 40 pg, FC, 7.0625” x 10.875”, $12.99 US • RATED T+ This oversized paper-over-boards COLLECTOR’S EDITION features both stories from DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE #2 at the same size! Obviously DC still isn't revealing much about the plot of The Dark Knight III, but the issue #2 solicit does confirm that Carrie Kelly will play a major role in the story. Carrie has apparently evolved from being Robin in The Dark Knight Returns to Catgirl in The Dark Knight Strikes Again to assuming the mantle of Batman proper in this sequel. This lends credence to early rumors that The Dark Knight III will parallel the original and revolve around Carrie seeking her superhero successor. We'll find out more about this futuristic Batman epic when the first issue hits stories in November.
