Why is Halloween often called "Gay Christmas"? Sure you can reduce it to sterotypes and say it's because Queer people just love theatrics and dressing up. But the actual reason goes much deeper than that and today we are gonna be talking about one of the reasons that is. Halloween in the Castro was the largest Halloween event in history for over 70 years before a night of violence would end its reign. It's Spooky Season, Pride listeners! Have you ever heard someone call Halloween Gay Christmas? To help us explore the very queer origins of Halloween, we'll spend some time with two experts in the realm of queer history: Michael Bronski and Marc Stein. We'll look at what exactly it is about Halloween that makes it feel like Gay Christmas and what some of those Halloween celebrations looked like in the middle of the 20th century, specifically in Philadelphia. We'll also hear from the one and only Tammie Brown, whose Halloween Spectacular is out now on Out TV, about her own experiences with Halloween as a drag queen. And finally, we'll look at how Halloween can remind us of our power and serve as a tool for activism. Tammie Brown's Halloween Spooktacular is out now on OUTtv.com and on AppleTV+ via the OUTtv Channel until October 31st. Watch it here and follow Tammie on Instagram. Read Michael Bronski's book, A Queer History of the United States. Read more from Marc Stein on his faculty page . Your host is Levi Chambers, founder of Rainbo Media Co. Also, Mark & Casey will discuss some tired, old, unimaginative, and frankly inappropriate costume ideas some folx are trying to sell us. What will you be wearing??Mark & Casey had an outing to the movie theater for an evening showing of the rom-com, Bros. The movie was great--very enjoyable-- with laugh out loud moments. The Boys are also remembering the legend we just lost, Dame Angela Lansbury. In this week's Trash Talk, Nebraska's First Lady is stepping out on her Republican husband supporting pro-LGBTQ candidate for Congress, Grindr's CEO's tweets are trending on Twitter, and a settlement in a civil lawsuit takes a tragic turn. It's beginning to look a lot like A BONUS EPISODE! This recording was made weeks ago, but we believe that it should be Gay Christmas all year round. So yes, in this episode, Tyler opens his presents from Andy. Also yes, it is very cute. They talk to us about the many organization they work with in order to help educate people about safe sex practices while normalizing sex positivity. We're back with this year's Christmas episode, in which Amy and Grace take a look at the infamous Kristen Stewart Gay Christmas Movie. Or "Happiest Season," as it's apparently called. Tune in to hear all our festive thoughts and feelings. Socials: Our Twitter Grace's Twitter Amy's Twitter Our TikTok Our Insta Tumblr coming soon!
Happy Holidays, y’all! In our last episode of 2020, Desmond pays respect to the seminal Christmas film THE PREACHER’S WIFE. Desmond gets into Advent, one of his favorite times of the year, the accuracy of the Black church in this film as portrayed by director Penny Marshall, and the wonderful people involved in this movie that we have lost in the past few years. Also, Desmond talks about how GAY Christmas truly is!!
This week we begin with a story in Washington, D.C. that's a perfect example of how I'm often mistaken for an Ethiopian. After that, we hear a testimony from a man that just had his life changed, a story of learning to ride a bike in a bad neighborhood, and of course; an angry gay Christmas rant.
In our first Christmas Special we highlight the incomparable Kenny Everett, who was born on Christmas Day, as well as sharing the story of the Roman holiday of Saturnalia - which is the real Gay Christmas. We also share the history behind some more Christmas traditions and discover many of them that have more LGBT connections than we first thought! Listen along with us and check out our website at www.allgaylong.com. Follow us on Twitter @allgaylong and Instagram @allgaylong_.

If you're in the mood to hear two homos rant about a million pop culture topics, then BOY is today's episode going to be treat! Host, Zacary Landolt, is super thrilled to welcome Tim Murray, who is an LA-based comedian/actor, and podcaster (host of the show, Slumber Party). He happens to be a mega fan of the musical Wicked, Rupaul's Drag Race, AND Buffy the vampire slayer. So let's just say that they had A LOT to go off on tangents about. After a full first act of Drag Race discussion, they dive into a head to head match to find out what Tim thinks the gayest Christmas movie is. But just when you think things are going to wind down, they close things out with another tangent about their shared loved for "Buffy", and Tim tells a story about when he was lucky enough to randomly experience a night of drinking with one of the original "Buffy" cast members. Tune in to find out who! And of course Zacary finds out who Tim's favorite Elphaba is. He IS a Wicked expert after all... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/inanotherworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/inanotherworld/support

This week we had the absolute pleasure of being joined by friend of the pod, historian extraordinaire and dabbler of the occult, Laura Alston. Laura joins us as a ghost enthusiast to talk all things spooky this season in our very special Halloween episode. We chat about our own experiences with ghosts and Laura takes us through some of the different explanations for those spooky sensations we all experience. Mostly, Laura helps to remind us that most ghosts don’t want to cause harm and we can learn a thing or two about life and what lies beyond it by approaching the veil between worlds. We talk queer ghost stories and Laura reads us the history of the ladies of Llangollen from stunning book, ‘Queer Hauntings’ by Ken Summers. We discuss the phenomenon of Halloween often being described as Gay Christmas and the dangerous notion of queerness being displayed as otherness. Plus, we get a sneak peek into the world of Laura’s pendulum and the importance of channelling your own energy to garner answers to questions in your life. We also have time to cover the latest adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s ‘Rebecca’ from Netflix, with it’s notorious queer coding of Mrs. Danvers and the true gay icon of the film- Rebecca’s bedroom. Can you believe it? October is nearly over, and we are wrapping on Gay Christmas month with the ever fabulous and somewhat problematic Rocky Horror Picture Show! It's a musical, so of course Eddie is back, and we are joined once again by Clark and our very special guest and friend, Jordan! Rocky Horror was instrumental in introducing queer culture to countless people for decades now, so we discuss the impact it's had as well as why there are issues, and what we, as men with privilege, can do to affect that and help those in our community. Oh, and Chris picks which fictional serial killers he would f**k, marry, kill and be killed by! Finally, stay 'till the very end for a review of the new Freddy Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. Please feel free to send suggestions and feedback to cinemaqueens@gmail.com and also on social media @CinemaQueens!
This week for Gay Christmas, we are talking about Hellbent, which has been billed as the first gay slasher. Let's be honest here, this isn't high art by any definition of the term, and it would be a stretch to even consider it a decent film. But we get to watch hot gay guys make out with their shirts off and get killed in horrible ways, so it's not all a loss. The biggest discussion here revolves around problematic content in entertainment and whether or not we should still enjoy those kinds of products and how. Also, stay tuned to the end for a brief review of the new Halloween in theaters now! As always, feel free to leave feedback or suggestions on social media @CinemaQueens!
October is here which means Halloween, aka, Gay Christmas is almost upon us! So of course we had to cover horror movies this month starting with The Babadook. Now this isn't necessarily an LGBT film, but the Babadook has definitely become a queer icon over the last few years, so we felt it was perfect to kick the month off. We also dive into the themes of dealing with grief and mental health issues, as well as what to do with a cryogenically frozen piece of the male anatomy all while wondering what exactly is leaking on the floor. Be sure to hit us up with suggestions as well as feedback on social media @CinemaQueens!

Gay Christmas has arrived! This week we break down all the grit and glory of Season 10's Snatch Game. Also, Arielle and Stephan welcome a third into their relationship with the lovely special guest Bry Crasch! Snatch out of it!
