In this episode, Peter invites a long time friend of his, Duran a.k.a. Intr3pid, onto the show to talk about a game that is near and dear to him: Red Faction: Guerrilla! Little did we know that we would be covering a game that both Cody and Peter have never played before! We are marching through new territory here, but it was fairly easy to do given that this soundtrack, composed by Timothy Michael Wynn, Jake Kaufman, George Oldziey, Dan Wentz, and Raison Varner, was absolutely stunning in so many ways. We also have a first here at the Deep Bass Podcast: 15 songs picked and not a single one overlaps another! Join us in another musical journey as Peter, Cody, and Duran talk about their history with Red Faction as a series, and share their top five favorite songs from the Red Faction: Guerrilla soundtrack! Question of the Episode: If you have played this game before, would you recommend this to anyone who plays games, or just to fans of the Red Faction franchise? For those who haven't played, was this episode enough to get you interested in the series? Answer this and talk about the episode with us further on Twitter @DeepBassPodcast, or join us on the Discord server: https://discord.deepbasspodcast.com/ To find out more about Duran, check out his Twitch channel: https://twitch.tv/intr3pid_1914 As always, thank you so much for listening, and please don't forget to subscribe to the podcast wherever you are listening to have notifications let you know when each new episode has dropped! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/deepbasspodcast/support

On today's show, Marc switches things up with a bunch of Switch talk, including the announcement of a new, cheaper, handheld-only model, as well as what it's like playing Red Faction: Guerrilla on the little Switch that could, specifically in handheld mode. Also, more Apex Legends and Attack the Backlog nonsense. Anyway, something-something explosive and corrosive, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly dated) show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks. If you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, the plentiful podcasts, the various videos, the absurd art, and all of the other nonsense we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we aren't quite ready to say good-bye to MYST and devote a bonus episode to the 2016 Cyan game Obduction. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: A couple of hours for Tim, the whole game for Brett Issues covered: being down the rabbit-hole for Brett, talking about the opening of Riven, losing the framing of the placed cameras, a game where you can't die, the MYST formula, getting lost without a map, the addition of photographs, having theories and testing them, mechanically consistent, being on a separate track from the rest of game development, technology and design and VR, natural evolution, recreating levels on later technologies, designing around limitations, learning to read the language, adventure games start-up cost, adding fluency as you played FPSes, mouse-look, the odd navigation on a phone, new interface/new game, ways that analog bits are bleeding into the design, no systems in the game, finding MYST Easter Eggs, physically fully rendered puzzles, not always pointing the camera in the right direction, camera and level design, Mew under a truck, saving Aerith, secrets in the age of arcade, closing and opening doors in Cyan games, modern accessibility and having automated animations, having our predecessors lay the groundwork for a later game, what makes a good MYST puzzle, Channelwood and the water pipes, the Selenitic Age, making the games for ourselves, larger teams meaning more eyes, timing puzzles and variety, our next game. On today's episode, Marc talks about returning to Red Faction: Guerrilla for the first time in forever thanks to the release of the "Re-Mars-tered" edition; however, things aren't all rainbows and chocolate cake. In addition to destroying more than just buildings (like their childhood), Marc also talks about some random anime and a smattering of films included in The Criterion Collection. Anyway, something-something rad and sad, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly revealing) show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks, and, if you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, podcast(s), and all the ridiculous jazz we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. And don't forget, you can also support the site by shopping at Amazon if that's your jam--you can probably buy your favorite blueberry jam on Amazon too.
In this week’s episode of Quality Control, Dave Tach and Russ Frushtick talk about Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered (which is the remastered version of Red Faction: Guerrilla). Red Faction: Guerrilla is basically the definition of a cult classic — a game that didn’t quite break into the mainstream but gained a devoted following, including from Dave and Russ.
