MAJOR BREAKING NEWS: ALEX DeBRINCAT HAS BEEN TRADED TO THE DETROIT RED WINGS! In a podcast first, nearly an hour of recording had happened before Steve Yzerman made the blockbuster deal to acquire Ottawa Senators scorer Alex DeBrincat in exchange for Dominik Kubalik, Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 1st round pick (Detroit's or Boston's), and a 4th round pick. Tune in as we begin (a much more exciting) round 2 of tonight's episode by discussing all theings Alex DeBrincat, starting off with our initial reactions to Hockeytown's newest scorer (4:50). Next, we discuss the value of Steve Yzerman's trade with Pierre Dorion, who won the deal, whether this is another case of The Yzerplan fleecing another team, how Kubalik and DeBrincat compare in terms of goal-scoring, the conditions on the 1st round pick, & more (8:00). After that, we analyze the 4 year, $7.875 million AAV extension that Alex DeBrincat signed with Detroit once the trade happened: was this good value? Why 4 years rather than 8 years? How did Yzerman get DeBrincat to sign so much lower than anticipated? All of that, the DeBrincat salary structure with clauses, & plenty more (21:30). After discussing Detroit's remaining trade assets & how it affects the Yzerplan's outlook (29:55), we then take a look at where Alex DeBrincat fits into the Detroit Red Wings lineup, line combinations, how this deal will affect Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, & other Red Wings stars, how DeBrincat slots into the power play, expectations & goal totals for the Cat's first season, & more (34:40). Finally, does bringing in Alex DeBrincat make the Detroit Red Wings a playoff contender? We answer that question, thoughts of "relief" on the Yzerplan, & more (49:20) before we take your questions during Overtime (57:45) - enjoy this soon-to-be-expiring episode! Head over to wingedwheelpodcast.com to find all the ways to listen, how to support the show, and so much more.

Hi everybody, and welcome to  Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.  The Detroit Red WIngs news and random hot takes will get us one week close to the start of the preseason. In the meantime, let's look at the newly announced Detroit Red WIngs roster numbers. A few standout bits of Red Wings News came from this as Tomas Holmstrom's number 96 has been issued to Jake Walman. Also, of note, the Detroit Red Wings announced Pontus Andreasson was given number 26. How much does this mean? Probably not a lot, but let's have fun! We also look at the IIHF World Juniors and update everyone on the performances thus far! Carter Mazur has looked great, and each Red WIng has had a chance to stand out thus far, including: Simon Edvinsson, William Wallinder, Theodor Niederbach, Sebastian Cossa, Donovan Sebrango, Jan Bednar,  Red Savage, Eemil Viro. Let's play a fun game of random hot takes. We love playing this game, but give us your practical, your weird, your impossible Detroit Red Wings hot takes. Will Dominik Kubalik hit the 30-goal mark? Will Kasper debut this season? Which Red Wings are on the move? Tell us in the chat and let's discuss! Episode sponsored by Draft Kings. Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 223 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home. The Detroit Red Wings April wishlist is here. The Red Wings will play 15 games in the month of April to finish out the season. In those 15 games, fans have little to get excited about or hope for. So we decided to come up with a shortlist of things for Red Wings fans to wish for before the season ends.We discuss the Red Wings' calling up Jonatan Berggren. Will we be lucky enough to see Donovan Sebrango or Jared McIsaac get called up? Or will someone like Albert Johansson pop over from the AHL?We also wish for Jakub Vrana to get a shot with some different linemates. Can we see Vrana on a wing with Raymond and Larkin? Or more ice-time for the Czeck Mates, Vrana and Zadina. And finally, where should we wish for the Red Wings to end up in the standings? We also discuss some salary-cap projections in the NHL and what they mean for the Red Wings and if the youngsters on the Red Wings are upset with Jeff Blashill and if we should care.Episode sponsored by Draft Kings. So we decided to come up with a shortlist of things for Red Wings fans to wish for before the season ends. We discuss the Red Wings' calling up Jonatan Berggren. Will we be lucky enough to see Donovan Sebrango or Jared McIsaac get called up? Or will someone like Albert Johansson pop over from the AHL? We also wish for Jakub Vrana to get a shot with some different linemates. Can we see Vrana on a wing with Raymond and Larkin? Or more ice-time for the Czeck Mates, Vrana and Zadina. And finally, where should we wish for the Red Wings to end up in the standings? We also discuss some salary-cap projections in the NHL and what they mean for the Red Wings and if the youngsters on the Red Wings are upset with Jeff Blashill and if we should care.
