Send us Fan MailWelcome to you heard it hear last, where we talk about news, you've already heard.Well, I guess it was only a matter of time.Deadline announced that Balder's Gate 3 is coming to TV.https://www.enworld.org/threads/there%E2%80%99s-a-baldur%E2%80%99s-gate-tv-show-coming.717787/Deadline Hollywood, the entertainment news site has reported that Balder's Gate 3 is coming to HBO and it is being run by the co-creator of the Last of Us, another TV show adapted from a game.Craig Mazin will “create, write, executive produce and showrun” the TV adaptation. Other executive producers include Hasbro's Gabriel Marano, plus Jacqueline Lesko and Cecil O'Connor.Chris Perkins—who used to work at WotC but now works at Darrington Press—will be acting as a consultant for the show.Larian Studios, which made the bestselling video game, is not involved with the TV show.Ok, So the company that made the game has nothing to do with it. The co-creator of the Last of Us that had an incredible first season and an abysmal second season is putting it together, and Chirs Perkins is climbing back into bed with Hasbro as a consultant. To quote another favorite movie of mine, “It's a trap, get an axe.”Christina what do make of this announcement.[Kick to Christina]Mike, What about you.[Kick to Mike.]Next up we have some news that's a little closer to home, and unlike most of our news, this will be the first time you've heard of it.Leviathan Rising will debut at GenCon 2026. Leviathan Rising is a brand-new tabletop roleplaying game designed to simulate disaster films and specifically those creature features like Godzilla. It's got an inventive new mechanic that incorporates the chaos that happens when everything around you is coming apart. And to make it all sweeter, the game is written by our very own Dr. Christina. The game won't be available for sale yet, but you will be able to sign up for games being run and demo'd by Christina herself.Christina, give us some details about the demo's you will be running at GenCon this year.[Kick to Christina]Mike, you've seen the game, what are your thoughts?[Kick to Mike]So, if you are going to GenCon this year look for Leviathan Rising and sign up for a demo from Christina. And that's all the news you've already heard.

Larian Studios' multi-award-winning fantasy RPG, Baldur's Gate 3, is set for its own TV series on HBO, and will be helmed by The Last of Us co-creator Craig Mazin. Max Scoville has all the details on your Daily Fix!
HBO is developing a Baldur's Gate TV series with Craig Mazin (The Last of Us) attached, and the big twist is that it's being described as a follow-up to Baldur's Gate 3, not a straight adaptation. I break down why that's both exciting and risky, especially with Larian not involved, and how the show might handle the game's multiple endings without instantly dividing the fanbase. We also talk about what to watch for next, like casting, the returning character question, and whether HBO leans into practical locations or goes heavy on CGI. 00:00 HBO developing Baldur's Gate TV series with Craig Mazin attached 00:13 Larian not being involved and why that worries fans 00:13 The show is a continuation after Baldur's Gate 3, using the wider D&D rule set 00:26 The canon problem: multiple endings and how the show might handle it 00:37 Optimism check: HBO + Hasbro money, plus The Last of Us as a recent success story 00:51 What to watch for next: casting, returning names, CGI vs on-location filming HBO is developing a Baldur's Gate series with Craig Mazin attached in a major creative role. The show is framed as a follow-up set after Baldur's Gate 3, not a retelling. Larian not being involved is the biggest immediate red flag for a lot of fans. The biggest storytelling challenge is picking (or avoiding) a canon ending in a game built around choice. The next real “proof it's happening” moment will be casting and visual approach (CGI-heavy vs real-world locations). “If you play the game, you know there are multiple endings, so what is Craig going to pick as the canon ending… it's a little risky.” “We're getting a D&D series with HBO and Hasbro money back in this thing… so while I'm cautious about this, I'm trying to stay optimistic.” If you enjoyed this breakdown, subscribe to Geek Freaks Headlines, leave a quick review, and share the episode using #GeekFreaksHeadlines.GeekFreaksPodcast.com (source for all news covered on the show)Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thegeekfreakspodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/geekfreakspodcast/Twitter: https://twitter.com/geekfreakspodThreads: https://www.threads.net/@geekfreakspodcastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcastGot thoughts on what ending should be “canon” for a Baldur's Gate show, or which companion absolutely has to return? Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios, whacked the beehive again by saying that gaming journos and critics should get scored themselves on Metacritic, and that they're awfully... mean. In today's Daily Fix:A new wave of games are being added to Xbox Game Pass, and Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 is leading the charge. The third-person action shooter has never made it to any gaming subscription service, so this is a big win for Game Pass. In other news, sales of Baldur's Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2 saw an uptick since the announcement of the new Divinity game. Larian Studios also said there was an overall increase in peak concurrent numbers, with Original Sin 2 having its best month since its release in 2017. And finally, one of the original designers of Tomb Raider has confirmed that Lara Croft almost got an anime- and manga-inspired redesign for the first game.

We talk about our favorite moments and all the reasons you might be interested in coming to this amazing but often overstimulating annual event. We also cover all the Nintendo and gaming news of the week such as Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance releasing for the Game Cube Nintendo Classics service, Larian Studios commenting on a potential Switch 2 port of Baulder's Gate 3, new Pokemon LEGO sets revealed with hefty price tags and much more. Larian Studios draws a firm line on generative AI, confirming there will be no GenAI-generated art in Divinity while clarifying how AI may still be used internally during development.Next, former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden compares the modern console market to the VHS vs. Betamax format war, sparking discussion around whether gaming needs a shared platform or format to truly expand its audience. Finally, Fallout co-creator Tim Cain officially comes out of semi-retirement and returns to Obsidian full-time, leading to speculation about what he could be working on - including theories around a potential Fallout: New Vegas remaster with restored cut content. The episode wraps up with What We're Playing, covering the games currently our rotations.
In today's Daily Fix:Developers at Pearl Abyss have dropped some details on the world of Crimson Desert. Via the Gaming Interviews YouTube channel, the devs had specified that the open world of Crimson Desert is about twice as large as Skyrim's, and larger as a whole than Red Dead Redemption 2. But they're aware that a large, empty world is no fun to play in, so the game will be 'incredibly interactive.' In other news, Larian Studios did an AMA on Reddit, and the company confirmed their upcoming Divinity RPG will have co-op. You will also be able to make meaningful changes to the story. And finally, fans of BioWare's Anthem are rallying to save the game ahead of server closures next week. The game was an infamous misfire for BioWare, and it never really found an audience large enough to support the game's live-service ambitions. But fans are working to get custom servers up, as the game will go offline permamently when the last official serviers go dark on Monday.

This week on The Gaming Duo, we dive into one of the most heated debates in gaming right now: generative AI. Well, we brought it up last week, and this episode will finalize our series by looking back at the year that was for the three major console makers, as it's now Xbox's turn to get its 2025 Report Card. Sean and Marc go through the highs and lows of Xbox throughout the year, the game releases, and also look ahead to 2026 as the company is already promising a huge year ahead. This also brings us to a sour subject for many gamers, and that's Generative A.I., as Larian Studios and Sandfall Interactive both make news for their uses of it, and should it lead to the retracting of awards and vitriol online. Is the outlook for A.I. all grim? Or can there be some good use cases for it? Sean also has thoughts on the indie game Unbeatable. Marc's played more Ghost of Yotei; join us for the final regular episode of Video Games 2 the MAX for 2025. As Lord Cognito long predicted, the AI conversation reached a breaking point online when people saw one of the industry's golden children announced that they'll be using generative AI for their game's development. That team is Larian Studios who is responsible for the Divinity franchise alongside the incredible Baldur's Gate 3. The CEO of Larian, Swen Vincke, said that it will be used for mostly pre-production stuff along the lines of whiteboxing or even company e-mails. However, he also let it slip that concept art ideation will be part of that process as an optional tool. Well, social media did not like this at all. It has turned into one of the most split topics to round out 2025. So, where do the Dukes stand? Matty, a longtime critic of AI's usage in development beyond a tool, happens to be a massive Larian fan. Does he bend the knee? What of Lord Cognito who always expected this? Does he blink at such a revelation? Perhaps, it's all overblown. There is a reality where we're years down the line and Larian is on a long list of developers who are all doing the same thing. Time shall tell, but let's chat about what we know for now. We start with breaking corporate news as Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to reject Paramount's latest acquisition offer, choosing instead to move forward with its $82.7 billion Netflix deal. If finalized, Netflix would gain control of Warner Bros. Games, including massive IP like Mortal Kombat, DC, Harry Potter, and more. We discuss whether Netflix will license these franchises out—or finally go all-in on games—and what this could mean for the future of AAA development. Next, we look at alarming new data showing US hardware sales and physical game spending just hit their worst November in 30 years. Despite heavy Black Friday promotions, record-high console prices dragged sales down, even as PS5 emerged as the best-selling console for the month. We break down what this says about the future of physical games, hardware pricing, and consumer behavior. Then we tackle the ongoing AI controversy in game development, as Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke responds forcefully to backlash over AI usage following The Game Awards. Vincke makes it clear: artists are not being replaced. We discuss where AI fits responsibly in modern game development—and where players are drawing the line. The episode also covers Bungie's major Marathon update, including a March 2026 release date, revamped visuals, deeper PvE, hardcore gameplay shifts, solo playlists, expanded weapon mod systems, and new lore teases. After months of controversy, Bungie appears to be rebuilding trust—so we ask: Is Marathon finally back on track? And can it stand alongside competitors like Arc Raiders? Plus, listener questions and reactions on Bungie, PlayStation strategy, and shooter fatigue.
Small bomb dropped when indie darling Larian revealed it uses AI in the preproduction and ideation phase of game development. Naturally, opinions deviate strongly, especially because artists have left Larian over their use of AI. In this episode, we discuss Jason Schreier's Bloomberg interview with Larian CEO Swen Vincke. Specifically, we discuss Vincke's quote about how Larian uses AI, and what, if any positive effect it has had. For the full context and a great read - check out the full article here: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-12-16/-baldur-s-gate-3-maker-promises-divinity-will-be-next-level It is no secret that neither of us are fans of AI, but I take the devil's advocate position this episode. I do actually think there are spots where AI could help creatives with busy work. (Our problem is: we all know that isn't what AI is targeting.)
Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios (Baldur's Gate 3, Divinity) has been put on blast by the media and some gamers for admitting to using AI for placeholder art and mockups in the new Divinity game.Is this a massive overreaction? Vincke claims that they're not using AI for final assets, just placeholder graphics. And the truth is -- almost every studio is using AI now. They're just not saying anything about it because of the backlash. Will this pass?Watch this podcast episode on YouTube and all major podcast hosts including Spotify.CLOWNFISH TV is an independent, opinionated news and commentary podcast that covers Entertainment and Tech from a consumer's point of view. We serveren je een nieuwe aflevering van Gamekings Daily. In deze gaming vodcast praten twee presentatoren van Gamekings over de laatste ontwikkelingen uit de wereld die videogames heet. Altijd vergezeld van een fijne mening. We blijven immers Gamekings.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow looks like it's keeping the comic's tone and trauma-driven edge front and center. Netflix Avatar Season 2 has the ingredients, but the details matter, especially Toph's presentation and Azula's intensity. IT: Welcome to Derry sticks the landing for the crew, and the back-in-time structure could keep future seasons fresh. Memorable Quotes "Merging in the end makes a small amount of people rich." "That is such a devious strategy. You almost got to respect it." "How does this story about Pennywise make me feel feelings?" "I need to see bloodbending." This Week: We’re covering all the biggest premieres, announcements, and winners from The Game Awards 2025, gaming’s biggest night of the year. Highlights include a Control Resonant sequel, Resident Evil Requiem, two new Star Wars games, and surprise reveals from studios like Crystal Dynamics, Larian Studios, and Bad Robot Games, among many others. Plus, Synth Riders officially lands on Nintendo Switch, and we’re joined by Kluge Interactive’s Arturo and Abraham Aquero to talk about bringing the hit rhythm VR game to a new platform, including what new artists and features fans can expect!
On this week's Random Encounter, we're chatting about gaming's biggest night: The Game Awards 2025!But before we get to all the reveals (and actual awards, I guess), we want to talk to Zek about the new Octopath Traveler game that was just released, Octopath Traveler 0! This entry, adapted from the mobile-only gacha game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, turns a lot of the conventions of Octopath on their heads, featuring over 30 characters instead of eight and including a massive town-building mechanic. After that, it's all about The Game Awards! There were some big announcements this year, including a long-awaited sequel to Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. We also have Larian Studios revealing their follow-up to Baldur's Gate III, Divinity, with one of the more disturbing trailers in recent memory. There is so much news, but our panel is ready to chat about it all (and Jono is ready to talk about how Blue Prince was robbed)!Featuring: Jono Logan, Hilary Andreff, Mike Salbato, and Zek Lu; Edited by Jono LoganGet in Touch:RPGFan.comRPGFan ShopEmail us: podcast@rpgfan.comTwitter: @rpgfancomBluesky: @rpgfan.bsky.socialInstagram: @rpgfancomThreads: @rpgfancomFacebook: rpgfancomTwitch: rpgfancomThis Episode's Related Links:Octopath Traveler 0 ReviewStar Wars: Fate of the Old Republic AnnouncedLarian Studios Reveals New Divinity GameLords of the Fallen II Gets First Gameplay TrailerClair Obscur: Expedition 33 Drops ‘Thank You' Update
In today's Daily Fix:Casey Hudson, director of the just-announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, is assuring fans that the game will be out before 2030. This comes after some on social media are guessing the game won't be about until then, which isn't too wild of a guess considering Hudson's new studio was just formed this past summer, and the long development times of Triple-A games these days. There's also the KOTOR remake, which was announced in 2021 and has seemingly been stuck in development hell since then. In other news, Larian Studios just dropped a new update for console versions of Divinity: Original Sin 2. The game is now optimized for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, as well as Nintendo Switch 2. The next game in the series, titled Divinity, was just announced at least week's Game Awards. And speaking of, Phantom Blade Zero made a splash at The Game Awards with a new trailer, but if you're an Xbox or Nintendo fan, don't expect the game to launch side-by-side with the PS5 version. Phantom Blade Zero is a PS5 exclusive for at least one year.

This month on Currently Playing, Daniel is joined by Jonathan (not that one) to talk about the intersectionality of video games and table top role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Penumbra City, Blades in the Dark, Vampire the Masquerade and more. And what better way to frame this TTRPG discussion than by discussing the video game Baldur's Gate 3 which uses Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition as the basis of the gameplay? Peppered throughout the chat are comparisons between "real" D&D and the videogame version, along with stories from table top campaigns and the campaign presented by Larian Studios. There are some spoilers for story beats in Acts 1 and 2 of Baldur's Gate 3, but since Jonathan hasn't finished Act 2 yet, we avoid Act 3 entirely.0:00:00 - Welcome to the Show, Jonathan!0:09:10 - What Are You Playing? In today's Daily Fix:BioShock 4 has been a long time coming, and it might be even longer. The game has reportedly failed an internal review at publisher 2K, prompting a leadership shake-up at developer Cloud Chamber Games. A rumored remake of the original BioShock has also reportedly been canceled. Over at Larian Studios, the developer is celebrating the second anniversary of Baldur's Gate 3, and is teasing their next project, which is not DnD related. And finally, Nintendo is re-committing to the 2025 release window for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The game will be playable at this year's Fan Expo in Canada.
[School of Everything Else 2025] One of the most ambitious projects for our podcast to date, this commission required the purchase of a PlayStation 5 and presents myself, Sharon and our teenager Willow with a massive and exceptionally dense and rich 80-hour tabletop-style RPG to battle through... each on our own individual quests. To that end, this is the first of three shows covering the celebrated 2023 game by Larian Studios. The second is a session the three of us recorded the day after this one, covering more of our extensive notes and experiences, and the third is yet to be recorded at the time of release, but will entail bringing in many guests to talk about their personal adventures and the endgame. These initial two cover mostly the first act of three, as it makes sense to give us all a big chunky meal to chew over, but save dessert for last. It is relatively spoiler-free, as Sharon and I have no idea what's going to happen in the future and Willow, who has actually completed the game and raced up behind us in a second playthrough, is considerate enough to hold off on blabbing about big impending shifts in character arcs. To that end you can listen to these first two, having never played the game, and familiarise yourself with the often-daunting range of possibilities that this quite extraordinary game holds. Many thanks to backer Sarah Montgomery, without whom there is no way this trio of shows would have been made.
On today's Daily Fix, the founder of Akane Studios, creators of Dishonored and Prey, and the now President at Weird West developer, WolfEye Studio called Xbox Game Pass unsustainable in a thread of posts on social media where a debate over the pros and cons of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass for gamers and developers ensued. Other devs like, Joe Kainer, former VP of Biz Dev Epic Games and Michael Douse, publishing director at Baldur's Gate 3 developer, Larian Studios also joined the conversation to back him up.

As expected, the Xbox Developer_Direct is set to arrive soon and it will boast four games. Those titles are South Of Midnight, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and a mysterious fourth game that's rumored to be from a "legendary Japanese IP." Naturally, the Dukes have many guesses about that, but also if there will the be usual fifth game that shows up like it has since Developer Direct became a thing. We won't have to wait long to find out. What we'll need to wait a while for is if Xbox will survive beyond 2030. No, that's not hyperbole. Outlet The Information reports that the Xbox business was set to shutdown in 2021 unless Game Pass subscriptions went up. What the rest of the write-up depicts are spooky times for the Green Team as it seems more and more like these moves by Xbox are more for survivability. Oblivion Remake continues to be a horribly kept secret, so we get into some new gameplay details on that, and also into what's going on with Ubisoft as Assassin's Creed Shadows sees another delay. You can get all of that, plus your weekly throat coat, all here on Defining Duke!
