In May of 1937, R. Nathaniel Dett's oratorio “The Ordering of Moses” was premiered by the Cincinnati Symphony. The performance was carried live on national radio by NBC, but about 3/4's of the way through the piece, the broadcast was halted due to unspecified scheduling conflicts, the origins of which remain mysterious and highly speculated on. And since its premiere, The Ordering of Moses has been performed only a handful of times, and never, as far as I can tell, outside of the United States. Well, that is going to change this February, as I'll be conducting the UK premiere of the Oratorio with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and soloists Rodrick Dixon, Chrystal Williams, and Eric Greene. Today on the show I'm going to tell you all about Dett's remarkable story, his passionate advocacy for black folk music and spirituals, and the profoundly moving music that runs all the way through The Ordering of Moses. You won't regret jumping into this rarely heard and rarely talked about gem of a piece, so come join us!

It's hard to believe, but it has been just over eight years ago that we first podcasted on a beer from a brewery that quickly became one of the best in Southern Arizona. We most certainly would have tried something from them before then if we could have, but that was not possible since they had only recently opened. Dragoon Brewing Company first started selling beer back in 2012 and while we don’t think we were their first customers, we are very possibly the first to do a podcast/video on one of their beers. Our relationship with one of the co-founders, Eric Greene, started in 2009 when he was kind enough to send us comments on the podcasts we were doing. That led to him joining us for some shows and us actually doing some work with him. Besides being a great guy, he, along with co-founders Tristan White and Bruce Greene, know how to make delicious beer. The one we are featuring today is the Nueve Russian Imperial Stout. They release a new version of this every year, starting with Uno, to commemorate their anniversary. What did we think? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below or join us live on Thursday nights to give us your feedback while we are live streaming on Twitch.

Expert Insight: ER Doctor Loses Custody Battle Due to COVID-19 Guest Opportunity: Joryn Jenkins --- Award Winning Family Lawyer, Legal Strategist and Best Selling Author of many books including “War or Peace (Avoid the Destruction of Divorce Court)” As if nurses and doctors aren’t dealing with enough already, now they have to worry about their parental rights. An emergency room physician on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus had her child custody rights revoked this week over the virus. Dr. Theresa Greene, a south Florida doctor, tested negative for COVID-19 this week. But that did not stop her ex-husband, Eric Greene, from petitioning a judge to revoke shared custody of their 4-year-old daughter, who equally splits time between both parents, WTVJ-TV reported. * Why should a judge be allowed to interfere in such parenting decisions in divorces, but not in everyone else’s marriages? * Are such intricacies of parenting so personal that they should be left to the parents, even if the parents don’t agree? * We deal with these types of conflicts every day in marriage so why does divorce make the rules any different? * Can this decision be appealed? * Can a parent’s job risk define who gets custody? Collaborative Lawyer Joryn Jenkins further elaborates on this story and uses her experience to talk about a parent’s rights when it comes to a custody battle. Joryn’s book, “War or Peace (Avoid the Destruction of Divorce Court)”covers the horror stories of divorce along with a mutual split. Welcome to Episode 48 of Therapy Chat! Today’s guest is Eric Greene, also known as “1 Awesome Dad”! Host Laura Reagan, LCSW-C and Eric discuss the random way they reconnected after growing up in the same community, even though neither of them lives there now. Eric talks about what he calls “peaceful parenting.” Eric explains the key to peaceful parenting, which is by definition non-violent – no hitting, spanking, smacking or popping, is to remain calm and connected with the child. Laura and Eric talk about some of the situations which can be challenging for parents and how to implement peaceful parenting when these issues come up. Eric describes how empathizing with your child and teaching them to express emotions can allow connection instead of disconnection when a child exhibits behavior that isn’t appropriate. Eric shares a painful experience which led him to commit to peaceful parenting when his son was born. He shares resources he recommends and how you can work with him for consultation. Enjoy!
