Embark on a transformative exploration of grit, partnership, and the remarkable resilience of the human spirit as I, Devan, sit down with Eric Rowell, a beacon of entrepreneurial passion. From the rush of leaving a steady job to embarking on the unpredictable adventure of Grit and Grind Coffee, Eric's journey is a testament to the power of chasing dreams with someone you trust by your side. We peel back the layers of Eric and his wife's story, revealing the essence of their mutual love for coffee that ignited the spark for their thriving mobile coffee venture. Their story is more than a business chronicle; it's about supporting each other's dreams and the relentless hustle that's required to turn those dreams into a palpable reality.Risk is an inherent thread in the fabric of entrepreneurship, and in our candid conversation with Eric, we unravel how he navigated the precarious balance of risk and family values. The concept of 'burning the boats' comes alive as Eric shares how a commitment to success can be amplified by removing the safety net, forcing an unparalleled focus on the goal ahead. As parents, we also dive into how our own decisions and the way we handle risks can profoundly influence our children's perception of challenge and opportunity. Eric and I reflect on the importance of involving family in life's pivotal choices and how the trials we face can serve as powerful lessons for the next generation. Finally, we confront the harrowing reality of addiction and the sheer determination required to overcome it. Eric opens up about his personal battle with opioid dependency, a struggle that many quietly face, and how the path to recovery paralleled the tenacity needed for building a business from the ground up. We celebrate the courage it takes to rise from the depths of addiction, paralleling the same unwavering belief in oneself that is essential for entrepreneurial success. As we look ahead at the expansion of Grit and Grind Coffee and the thrill of real estate development, it becomes clear that the journeys of personal and professional growth are intertwined, each fueled by an indomitable mindset and the dogged pursuit of a better tomorrow. Thanks for listening & being part of the Mindset Cafe Community.Message me on Instagram @devan.gonzalez and let me know what topics or questions you want covered so we can help you achieve your goals faster.https://www.devangonzalez.com/connect----For more information about Franchising Opportunities with Strive 11 Fitness click the link below! S5 Ep63: David Abrahamovitch, Founder Of GRIND Coffee Took On The High Street Coffee Chains And Won But Pivoting Into A Sustainable D2C Coffee Brand Changed Everything!

Founder of GRIND Coffee David Abrahamovitch grew up watching his dad build multiple businesses as a child ultimately inspiring him to go it alone. It didn't however start with coffee!  Having turned his Dad's business around and pivoted it into new sectors, David speaks to Oliver about how there's a seismic culture shift in today's world about what being an 'entrepreneur' actually is.  David started his first 'proper' business at University at aged 22 whilst studying UCL. David and his co-founders found themselves pitching for seed capital around a boardroom table before even graduating, the business he was pitching for capital still trades today. GRIND took on the giants of Costa Coffee and Starbucks and, in time, started to win. Having arranged external investment for GRIND it was still just a side hustle. David ended up jumping ship from his University founded business to go into GRIND full time.   It was during the start of the 2019 pandemic that everything changed for David and the GRIND team.  GRIND, a business that was turning over c£10m at the time, had no choice but to close it's high street coffee shops overnight, ultimately leading to David exploring new avenues for revenue. It was this world first, D2C compostable pod offering that doubled GRIND's turnover in less than 12 months to over £20m.  Still going strong, GRIND and David are looking to take on the US.

In episode 96 of The Resilient Retail Game Plan, I speak to the founder and CEO of Grind Coffee, David Abrahamovitch. Since starting with their first high-street space in Shoreditch back in 2011, Grind has expanded across the capital and into the homes of coffee lovers everywhere, with their amazing home compostable coffee pods and subscription service.  After nearly a decade of hard work building their brand and refining their products, the footfall at Grind's physical shops (as did everyone's) ground to a halt in 2020 as COVID-19 swept across the globe. However, thanks to making the right investments, the right choices, and a considerable dollop of luck, Grind were able to pivot from having their digital offering account for less than 1% of their business pre-pandemic shift to replacing all the business they lost as a consequence of the pandemic - and the business has been forever changed since. In today's podcast, we discuss the critical importance of brand building and how your physical and digital offerings need to be working in tandem to make the best gains. We also talk about the confusion surrounding modern sustainability credentials, the greenwashing that comes with it, as well as some of the incredible statistics when it comes to coffee production and the subsequent waste the industry produces.  Check out Grind at: https://grind.co.uk/ https://www.instagram.com/grind/ https://www.facebook.com/grind
