In this episode, we are getting to the details of why and how you should be using Facebook Ads in your business. This is an area that people are either absolutely nailing, or wasting a lot of time, effort, energy and cash.  I'm joined by Emma Van Heusen, a Facebook ads coach and best-selling author, who has done numerous trainings for myself and my clients inside my masterminds and programs.  What You Will Learn In this Episode: - The benefits of using Facebook Ads - What makes a good ad - The differences between boosting a post and creating a Facebook Ad - Advice for people who are resistant or ignoring their Facebook page - The goal of retargeting strategy with Facebook Ads - Changes caused by the recent Apple IRS upgrade  - What Google AdWords strategy is and when it is effective The key benefit of using Facebook Ads is that you can make money while you sleep. But for lots of people they don't work instantly, because there's a lot of testing involved. Once you get past that and you understand what's working and what isn', you will be able to make data-driven decisions, and have a funnel that works on autopilot. Are you wondering whether you should be using Facebook ads in your business? Perhaps you're worried it's too early on in your business. Or you're not sure what kind of budget you need to get started. It could be that you've tried using Facebook ads in your business...but didn't get the results you hoped for. If any of this sounds familiar, you'll love this podcast episode (also available to read as a blog). In it, I share seven signs you're ready to run Facebook ads (and what to do if you're not). PLUS I also answer some of your burning questions about Facebook ads including - how much do I need to spend on ads to turn a profit and is it worth running a Facebook ‘likes' campaign. {Click on the player above to listen to the podcast episode and/or read on for a detailed overview. Scroll down to the bottom to read the show notes including all the links mentioned in this episode.} 1. You have a product/service to sell  It sounds obvious, but paying for Facebook ads is no guarantee of sales. If you want to make sales from Facebook ads, you need a great product that people actually want to buy.  Which leads me into point 2...   2. You have actually successfully sold that product/service Have you successfully sold the product/service you want to run ads to? If not, what makes you think people will buy it? Remember that when you pay for Facebook ads, you're paying for traffic - not sales. So just chucking money at ads, is no guarantee of sales. If it's a poor product and/or you don't understand how to sell it to your ideal customers/clients, no amount of Facebook ads will help you sell it.   3. You need to understand basic marketing and sales funnels Most people need seven or eight touch points with you before they buy. Which means it's unlikely they'll buy from the first ad of yours they see. They'll need to get to know you first. This means you'll need to build a sales funnel i.e. you need to map out the steps a new prospect might need to take from not knowing about you to becoming a customer/client. Which might mean running ads to an email lead magnet (a free resource you create to encourage people to join your email list) or hosting a webinar or live challenge in order to help your ideal customers/clients get to know you...then retargeting people who engaged with those ads with your paid offer. This will almost certainly mean split-testing multiple types of ad copy and creative - because you won't know exactly what will resonate with your audience until you try. It will also mean knowing how to install Pixels (tracking code) on your website so you can track your results.   4. You know how much it costs you to acquire a customer/client  One of the most common questions I get asked about Facebook ads is this: how much will I need to spend to make a profit.  The rather unsatisfactory answer is: it depends.  There are many factors that influence the cost of your Facebook ads - from the price of your product/service to the audience you're targeting to your geographical location. So if you haven't done Facebook advertising before, it can be difficult to predict how much you will need to spend to achieve your target sales. Knowing how much it costs you to acquire one customer/client can at least give you a starting point. Knowing how much you're currently spending to acquire one customer/client can at least give you a starting point on budget. Think you're not currently spending anything on marketing? Think again. If you're spending time prospecting leads, reaching out to potential customers/clients and/or hosting discovery calls If you're spending time creating social media or other content If you're investing in tools, apps - or even other peoples' services - to promote your business… ...you ARE investing in sales/marketing Working out how much you're currently spending to acquire a new customer/client can be tough - because you're probably using multiple marketing strategies and not paying specifically for each lead. But calculating how many hours you're spending on acquiring new business and/or your total monthly marketing spend (including tools, apps and outsourced services) can give you a starting point. Dividing these costs by the number of clients/customers you've acquired in a specific period can give you an idea of how much it costs you to acquire a single customer/client. And how much you might be willing to spend to acquire similar customers/clients. Don't forget to include your time (because time is money).   5. You know your ideal customers/clients (and are able to convert them)  If you want your Facebook ads to work, you have to make sure you're targeting the right people. When I hired a new Facebook ad agency recently, I had to fill out a long questionnaire about my audience - not an ideal customer avatar (i.e. fantasy) but information about the customers/clients who buy from me. To run successful Facebook you need to (a) understand the problem your product/service solves and (b) understand your ideal customers/clients' pain points. But understanding your customers/clients is not enough. You need to be able to create content that really resonates with them and really speaks to their pain points. So when you've successfully attracted them into your funnel (via a lead magnet for example), you'll be able to create follow up content that will convert them from browsers into buyers.   6. You are already creating engaging organic content  People don't engage with Facebook ads because someone has paid for them. They engage because the content is ENGAGING. So you can chuck as much money at ads as you like.  But if your content is boring…if you don't know how to write a decent social media post, select/create engaging visuals and/or shoot a decent video on your smartphone - you may as well burn your cash. And yes, if you have the budget, you can hire a Facebook ads strategist to do all that for you (and make sure you're targeting the right people). But if you don't know how to nurture your audience. If you don't understand about the buyers' journey and how to turn leads into sales via your content…your ads will not convert. So it's only when you understand how to create engaging organic content - and make sales from it - that you'll be able to get a return on investment on your ad spend. So it's only when you understand how to create engaging organic content - and make sales from it - that you'll be able to get a return on investment on your ad spend. 7. You need to have a testing budget  Most Facebook ads strategists recommend a ‘testing budget' (i.e. a sum of money you're willing to spend with no expectation you will get it back in sales). Most Facebook ads strategists recommend a minimum of £300 as a testing budget. So if you've got that budget and you're willing to blow it on testing, that's a sign you could be ready to start running ads.   What if you're not ready to run ads? What if you've read this list of signs and feel you're not ready for ads? You have two options. You can hire a Facebook ads strategist. If you have a good product that you've sold successfully...they can look after the rest If you don't have the budget to hire a professional, invest your time in building an organic audience - particularly in learning how to create engaging content. Then, when the time is right, you'll be able to invest in Facebook adverts to send more of that kind of traffic your way. Are you ready to build your online audience? Just tell about hypnosis and how I got this career as a personal trainer at 530 and then my countable come hall will sit on the big DINNER and watch TV you know couple years ago you did serious with Walmart. Walmart got a hold me through some marketing team. I said let's do a commercial, it was great because I could just be myself and I think I'm hypnotist about your your your holidays so that like we had his drum. Sadly, my brother had thought rightly delete this €75 man's I asked the mother for some rollerskate and she's now no Senate going to ghost eight this year and I hypnotize him they wake up in the skies plan the dramas and that older man is like pretending that I escape and rollerskate down the hallway and it was get choked up on it. I liked it but it was a very fun commercial is a three minute long commercial but also working. I watched a couple of times. I agree with what holidays like for you all my gosh I had a very nice childhood. But I don't love Christmas my dad was self-employed as a photographer, like he Shaklee shadow Tribune and sometimes any shackles of Nelson Mandela twice so he's travel and it's been good to him, but being unemployed is like a feast and famine and so I remember one Christmas is a younger reason I don't deepen out of shape. If you don't get what you want. This year are everything you want this year as I know that it's fine. Don't worry. And now that I'm older I know that she was an upper my cousin who are younger than me. Make sure that everyone in the house like everyone I the whole family got present because my dad and he was super thoughtful and that she get my cousin Brandon who you met a toy, but you make sure that comes with batteries like the small taco stuff like that and the so I always felt like all we don't have money working to lose the house were poor, but is really my dentist extending himself to the entire family Circus was like now like we need to make more mightily to save money and might as I don't worry about that. I couldn't wrap my head around, knighted that we were okay. It was just that he was making sure what else had enough. You mentioned that Christmas that we are growing up you really like Christmas that much. I don't. I did neither. I wonder if that's a feeling that a lot of people have. I love Thanksgiving but I'm not a big fan of Asmus yeah everyone sit together even before and be happy. We hug on the couch but Christmas is like I got you something yummy coming better. I have to am to try to beat you next year, you know, and I think a lot of people unfortunately have that feeling. Do you practice your philanthropy because of the lessons you learn from your father. I'm sure and and my mom. My mom was a children's nurse for like 30 years my dad he you know people, the street, a massive change and he would tell them no, I will buy you something right now and whatever doing would stop. We go to like a street vendor or Burger King and you get them food and you wouldn't say watch this assignment. That is how you do it, but that was a message like take your time. Be thoughtful to people as people and don't just give them a handout. Try to make sure they do something it's nutrition, our bodies, it's amazing the lessons that children learn just by watching by observing the things that their parents and other people around them do true and like you said. I'm so very lucky because in out some to go to Jamaica again. We coached soccer and Christmas is huge in Jamaica like Heusen's are mentor who is from Jamaica you'd like all the kids they go crazy all the lights and everything some coaching soccer is a few days before Christmas likely to get for Christmas and they look at me, just like we were going to eat while you have a like your presence coaching but your dad to get you like that I don't know my dad okay so what would you want to get you should engage a brother like you guys will decrease like at work grab like curry goat or chicken right. I thought you guys went big and was like okay well maybe if there's one working parent of the household. This is going big for them but puts life in the perspective doesn't my gosh yeah parents in America like bagel exhausted by their kid everything they want – it's like we're going to eat baby and wearing a saying I will dance you might seen uncle not enough. You want children. Chris, I do. I used to be very selfish even more suckers. I am now and not want kids and I like being in control of things I like sleeping in. I like yeah but cops and I let the TV show they're not celebrities and nicest people get arrested for stupid ship right whatever expectation they have of me is what they have an email I can just try to be true to myself and I was in my dad a lot is like a great gatekeeper. People asked my dad for tons of stuff on my behalf and he he let's like one request slip through. Like every month you like hey get a chance with your cousin in the hospital give give on Esther a phone call. I mean she's always asking that you just give her a phone call governing the water so it really doesn't take much this month were talking about holidays. So let's kind of circle background that is run of your father again. Did you have a chance when you are kid or did you tell your parents that you love them all the time. Nice to get upset when mom would say like goodbye before bed. I might know say good night good by me tonight and see you again tonight means I'll see you tomorrow. But yeah, my lover all the time and I tell my dad use I love them whenever I see him and my get a minute different date I get automated stapled to like North Carolina ab initio. I love you and there is inherent risk of just traveling there and I love you but I'm in the city like I talk you later bye since it is the holiday season. Chris what your holiday message on my gosh my message for the holiday. Enjoy the light fiancé put a Christmas I think she is like that look like night. I didn't want to enjoy this puppetry and and I don't and she was of the Christmas music all the time and even if you might like not be your thing, you might find it annoying are always a think Christmas music. Enjoy because one day you might not have that person. So enjoy the light gets dark. You get cold and lonely and if you didn't hear that Christmas music person might not be there.
