I know what you're thinking. Why are we talking about holiday gift guides when it's only spring? I know. But just like how product development cycles require advanced planning, so does pitching the press and getting your products featured in holiday gift guides. Today's guest is Nora Wolf from Wolf PR, a boutique public relations firm that she founded in 2011. Wolf PR specializes in furniture, textiles, lighting, and collectible design. In addition, they have consulted with a wide range of companies, big and small. In 2020, Nora and her business partner, Kristen Larson, launched a second business called WolfCraft. WolfCraft's mission is to help creative businesses build brand awareness with actionable PR and content strategies that resonate with clients and the media. Nora is known for helping product-based business owners get their products featured in holiday gift guides. During this episode, we're talking about your holiday gift guide pitching timeline, what you need to have prepared, and how to put your best products forward when pitching press for holiday gift guides. If pitching holiday gift guides is something you are focused on for this year, I want to invite you to a free workshop that we're co-hosting with WolfCraft PR on May 7th at 9am PT/12pm ET. They will share best practices for pitching your products to gift guides and tell you more about their upcoming program that helps you get your products featured in gift guides. Show Notes As is tradition around this time of year, Dan and Kris have gathered around the digital Yule Log to compile their 2024 Holiday Gift Guides. What sort of things should you buy the gamers in your life? Just how cool is an electric mop? How far has keyring technology progressed? Find out now! In Week Old News, of course the big deal is the GTA 6 trailer, and its early leak which was just plain awful all around. And then lots, and I mean LOTS of time is spent discussing The Game Awards, how suspect and poorly thought out the awards themselves are, and the various trailers that made the event worth watching in the first place. At the top of the show, Kris dives into the world of Suika Game, the new fruit matching game that seems to be sweeping the globe. It's rather addictive. Also, he got Berzerk Recharged. Is it any good? Yes! But how good? Listen to find out! Meanwhile, Dan has an enormous pregnant dog in his house, and terrible luck with Marvel Snap, to an almost comedic degree. Enjoy! For the travel blogger and writer - they deserve a high quality laptop case to keep that precious cargo safe. You also can't go wrong with a travel journal. To give them some great inspiration for their next adventure or story, travel magazine subscriptions are the way to go. Some of the best subscriptions include National GEO, Travel & Leisure, Artful Living, Wanderlust, Afar, and Global TravelerFor the avid flyer, there are top items everyone needs in their carry on - fun masks, eye shades, neck pillows, packable travel blanket, noise canceling headphones, word searches, foldable raincoat and of course, a travel wallet to fit and protect their passport. After so many travel adventures, a piece of luggage starts to give out. A new luggage set is the perfect, thoughtful gift for someone always on the go. Some reputable brands to look into are AWAY, IFly, and Beis. To go with the luggage set, you can get refillable travel sized toiletries and a hangable toiletry bag. Loungewear for the airport is a must because you want to be comfy, but there's also photo ops moments that mean you need cute and casual. Some great brands are Lululemon, and Calvin Klein. In terms of clothes, splurging on a quality pair of hiking boots might be the way to go. Before going to Machu Picchu and hiking around the Inca trail, I bought Colombia hiking boots and I am so happy I spent extra money to get a quality pair that will last years. Bass Pro Shops had a decent selection to choose from. If your person enjoys activities and going places more than material items, find a worthwhile voucher or certificate to do something fun. For example, you can buy flight vouchers or gift cards for Delta, Southwest, or American so they can have funds for their next travel adventure. Or if you know they've been wanting to go skydiving or get scuba diving certified, those would be amazing gifts. Another voucher that goes a long way is the Key West Express voucher that lasts for 2 years. One of the best things about traveling is coming home after an adventure away. A great gift to buy for travel lovers is photo albums and print out pictures of where they've explored. Shutterfly can meet all your personalized and picture needs. There's options for everyone in the Travel Brats gift guide, but you can simply write a loving card and include a picture and that would be thoughtful enough. Enjoy the holidays coming up and purchase with love. Thank you for tuning in to the Travel Brats podcast. Head to IG @thetravelbrats for more tips!
It's the second annual holiday gift guide. We've been hearing since October that this year we must shop early. Supply chain issues were predicted to cause delays and empty shelves. I followed the advice and now there are gifts in the basement and they've been there for a couple of months! The holidays are a great time for entrepreneurs who have digital products. What's better than a great experience? How about a gift that someone can use all year long? That's what digital can do. Here are my digital gift suggestions for holiday 2021. · Membership to WFUV radio – Music discovery starts here! Hear how you can get a free gift. · Netflix – Great for anyone, especially those who don't have space or interest in more stuff. · The Real Deal Weight Loss program. This is good for yourself and for anyone who wants to incorporate new habits with support. · Create Your Business subscription box. This has a digital and physical product. It is perfect for a business bestie. · Parent to Pro is a great gift for people who want to get support helping their child. · Online cooking classes with Chef Rama! Who wouldn't like this? Do it with your children to promote a fun family night. · Alchemy and You – a membership to help you align your internal power. Find out the best time is to launch, or when Mercury is going into retrograde. Find out how to get your natal birth chart too! Shop local. Support small businesses in your area (or online) if you can. Make sure to listen for the gift that I predict will be the most popular at my house. Bonus it also takes care of Christmas morning breakfast! Get those photos off your phone. You can download prints online (I use Walgreens) and have them printed. Share a stack with family. No shipping required. I wrap up with a gift that costs no money but will make someone's day. Don't miss this one! I hope this gave you some new gift ideas. No worries about shipping or delays when you go digital. Happy shopping! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Skills, strategies, tools for your emotional toolbox… coping skills are anything, any activity that is good for your mental wellness. Let's start with the dictionary.com definition of “coping mechanism”, then we'll go deeper- an adaptation to environmental stress that is based on conscious or unconscious choice and that enhances control over behavior or gives psychological comfort. Coping skills are things that we can do in the moment, when we are feeling something, to help us turn down the volume of our emotions and avoid getting overwhelmed. They help us to get through stressful situations with a little more ease, and without doing something we'll regret later on. Coping skills aren't going to solve the deep, underlying issues. Having healthy coping strategies isn't going to cure WHY you have the anger, resentment, or general discomfort in life. It doesn't take all of that away. What it does, is allow you to create more calm in your life so you can start to dig in to those things and understand them better. Powerful coping skills allows you an entry point to get deeper into what's really bothering you. Different coping skills serve a different purpose, too, so let's dive in to the coping strategies that will change the way you live. In this solo episode, I discuss the evolution of my relationship with food and where I'm at right now: a much more “chill” version and one who is now comfortable relinquishing control. This has truly been the greatest mental shift I've experienced since giving birth. I also discuss the request to stop commenting on women's bodies and how I've received more comments on my body during postpartum than I ever could have imagined. I get open and honest on why I'm currently struggling with these comments and the history behind this request. Key Takeaway / Points: How becoming a mom has forced me to relinquish control Why I now consider myself “chill” (no matter how much Joe makes fun of me for saying this) The evolution of my relationship with food and how it is now simply just that, food Why we should stop commenting on women's bodies Discussion around body comments and pregnancy / postpartum The honest truth of current struggles and why I would like people to stop commenting on my body Today's episode is sponsored by Yummly. Do you want to get your products in magazines' holiday gift guides? You'll want your products to be a part of these holiday gift guides because it can mean a lot of sales over the holiday for your business. It can also increase your credibility among other journalists and media, as well as increase awareness of your brand among your target customers. Here are some simple-yet-effective steps for getting holiday press for your products: Determine what type of gift your product is Here are some examples: gifts for the animal lover green gifts gifts that give back splurge-worthy holiday gifts gifts for geeks gifts for the person who has everything last-minute gifts (if you offer gift certificates on your website, your products fall into this category) gifts for foodies gifts for baby's first Christmas/Hannukah gifts for health and wellness gurus gifts for the outdoor enthusiast gifts for the pragmatist gifts for the fashionista etc… Find the most appropriate magazines for your products Browse the magazine racks at your favorite bookstore or searching online. (NSFW) Ed and Chris sit down and talk about holiday shopping for the beer lover in your life. How sites that are not related to craft beer are putting out some pretty lame beer holiday gift guides. Ed goes over the Saguaro Society membership, the class of 2019 group, the record setting sellout of the fifty spaces. They wax and wane on what really is stout season and is there really a "stout season" or should all year be a stout season. Later on, the guys are joined by Sina Gomez (@SaucySina) wife and more importantly Patron supporter of the show. She asks the Craftsmen what they are looking forward to in 2019, and makes some pretty big Patron Supporter requests, or they may have been demands. Also, Ed and Chris settle some beef with the two time Beard Champion @OneTokentoPlay. Last year, right around this time, I wrote a blog post that got a lot of attention about the importance of experiences over piles of presents full of more stuff under the tree. View the original blog post here. Call it my inner minimalist, but it causes me some distress when I drive past the mall this time of year and see it teeming with people, struggling under the weight of more bags than they can carry, impatiently waiting for a closer parking spot, and potentially spending more time searching for a gift than with the loved ones they are purchasing for. Gifting people items that excites them or that they truly need is a beautiful thing. There's no judgement from me about that, because I love doing that for others too. But overall the holiday season, regardless of what you celebrate, is a magical time because of the people you spend it with, the special meals shared, the board games played, and the laughter, hugs, and love. Not because of the amount of money you dropped on presents that will potentially spend the next 12 months collecting dust until they are shifted aside to make room for new gifts in a year's time. I didn't always feel this way. In fact, I’m an only child and grew up in a middle class household with a lot more gifts under the Christmas tree with my name on them than I could possibly need. My town was quite affluent, and though I was definitely not among the kids in my high school parking their Cadillac Escalades before class, I’ve been very aware from a very young age that I am incredibly fortunate and extremely privileged to have the upbringing that I did. If there's one lesson I've learned the most over the years, it's this: that money is a tool, but time is the real prize. When you're shopping this year, here are 3 questions I encourage you to ask yourself when it comes to giving gifts: What will bring the most joy to my loved ones? What will be the most memorable? Do I really need to give/receive more “stuff”? There are so many other ways to give gifts that are better than anything you can purchase in a store. When you think back to holidays past, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? All those gifts you received under the tree (or for Hanukkah, or any other holiday you might celebrate) that are now collecting dust? Or the smell of a special meal wafting from the kitchen, the taste of your grandmother’s pie, and how hard you laughed playing board games with your loved ones over a cup of cocoa? Which one is most important to you? I’m challenging you to start thinking hard about your priorities and what means the most to you. This doesn’t just apply to the holidays either, this kind of spirit can be carried with you throughout the year. Ideas for experiences to gift: Checking out a new coffee shop with a friend, or inviting them over to your house for a cup of tea and a special visit Go for a walk or hike a new trail Host a game night Have a dinner party for friends, or make it a potluck Taking a cooking class with your partner or a friend, or try something totally different (I’ve gifted passes to trampoline parks, floats in saltwater where it’s super relaxing, yoga classes, zoo passes, movie passes although I don’t love that one as much, workshops, etc.) Does a friend or neighbour need something fixed and they don’t know how but you do? That would mean the world to them Having friends for a home cooked meal, or make it a potluck so you can all try something new. Better yet, trying cooking. a new dish together. Volunteering to be a babysitter for the night so a friend can have a much-needed night out. Road trip to somewhere within driving distance you’ve always wanted to check out, or play tourist in your own city REFERENCES WHOLE HEALTH SUMMIT There were a few things mentioned in this episode I want to make sure you get your hands on, because they're all totally FREE!
