We all crave change. We want to be better versions of ourselves – wiser, kinder, more successful, healthier. But the journey from where we are to where we want to be is rarely a straight line, and it certainly isn't quick. Real, lasting change isn't some lightning-in-a-bottle magic trick. It's a complex, multifaceted process. As self-aware leaders, it's crucial that we recognize this truth. We need to relinquish our tight-fisted grasp on perfectionism and acknowledge that the real transformation happens on the messy middle ground, the part filled with learning curves, stumbles, and setbacks. Change as a Commitment The commitment to change is a commitment to continuous work. We make a promise to ourselves to never stop learning, growing, and evolving. It means shedding old habits and patterns of behavior that no longer serve us. It's time to say goodbye to those lingering character flaws that keep dragging us down. The desire to "do it right" can be crippling in the face of change. This perfectionist mindset leaves little room for mistakes, for the experimentation that's critical to the change process. We end up paralyzed at the start, afraid of straying from some imaginary ideal. The Gift of Messy: Change as a Learning Opportunity So, we need to flip the script in our minds. Mistakes aren't flaws—they're learning opportunities! If you slip up when trying to ditch an old habit, don't spiral into self-blame. Use it as a chance for reflection: What triggered the slip-up? How did you feel in that moment? Is there something you could do differently next time? Change should be a constant adventure of discovery. This involves uncovering new, healthier ways of interacting with yourself and the world around you. The goal isn't to flawlessly execute some change formula – it's to continually expand your knowledge of yourself and your behaviors. Practical Tips for Embracing Change as a Process Be Patient and Kind to Yourself: You didn't get where you are overnight, and you won't change overnight either. Celebrate the small steps forward, no matter how minor they seem. Focus on Progress, Not Perfection: We've all fallen victim to the all-or-nothing approach. But remember, "done" is always better than "perfect." Every little shift matters. Seek Support and Accountability: Find mentors, coaches, or friends who will help you along the way. Accountability creates momentum. Reflect, Reflect, Reflect: Take time to pause, look back on your journey, and appreciate how far you've come. These moments of introspection can become fuel for future change. It Never Ends, and That's Beautiful The best part? The process of change never truly ends. There is always room for more growth, more self-awareness, and more opportunities to step even further into our best selves. Embrace the journey, own those "messy" moments of learning, and watch yourself transform in ways you never could have imagined. Let me know if you'd like me to expand on this for your podcast, or have any other topics in mind!
Tom Scharpling is my guest on today's episode of That's How I Remember It. Tom is the host and creator of The Best Show, a comedy and music radio show that has run since 2000. He has also written for television and, in 2021, published a great memoir called It Never Ends. We talked about the book, bad behavior at rock concerts, trying out for the New Monkees, the aggrieved yet positive tone of The Best Show, and so much more. Big thanks to Tom for coming on the show and being a great guest. Listen and subscribe!
Slam the Gavel welcomes back Elaine Mickman, Author of, "Court Gate...The Court$ Divorced From The Law," available on Amazon, FREE in eBook this October 12th - 14th, 2023 and for several days after. Elaine was last on the show on Season 3, Episode 20 and 30. Elaine updated her case, saying that there is not much movement. However, Elaine gave the history of her case. The tactics state and federal courts use on litigants such as tampering with the COMPUTER SYSTEM, "quashing" a case without a legitimate reason and dismissing the case, saying they were never "served." We talked about e-filing and that there are many ways that can be tampered with as well. A first level appeal is a RIGHT, promised in the Constitution. Yet they block people. "They do not rule by law in this unjust system," Elaine states. They are trying to predetermine if a person can appeal by a new tactic called "Summary Action." IT NEVER ENDS. We talked about legislative law. In Pennsylvania, Article 5. 10(c) prohibits Judge's abridging a litigant's rights. The Court has their own rule, 210 PA 63.1 states that the judiciary can't create or diminish rights, yet THEY ARE DOING IT. Discussing Diane Diamond's book, "We're Here To Help, When Guardianship Goes Wrong." Elaine talked about how they put a Guardians on somebody who is getting divorced and would be getting child support or spousal support or divorce settlement, most of the time exparte happens and they sign away your assets and the person has no rights. Then take the Guardian off, and the person is left destitute, homeless and broke. There is no oversight for the Supreme Court. HR288 is looking for accountability and oversight in the US Supreme Court. There needs to be an independent agency. You can't have a judge overseeing another judge. They have dismissed 99% of the complaints filed by litigants. Elaine recommends that if you can avoid the court system do it. Within the comedy world, Tom Scharpling is known as a bit of a Swiss Army Knife. He's the host of the long running Best Show, online now and on WFMU before that. He's a veteran TV writer on shows like Monk and What We Do In The Shadows. He directs music videos. Now he's a book writer, with the memoir It Never Ends. In that book and in our interview, he tells stories of his own mental health journey that he's never shared with an audience before.Tom started running into trouble with depression when he was around ten years old, which evolved into two hospital stays, the second of which involved electroconvulsive therapy. That treatment wiped out the depression but wiped out a big chunk of his memory in the process.Get your copy of Tom's memoir It Never Ends: A Memoir With Nice Memories! at www.tomwroteabook.com or wherever books are found. Every so often, he makes a fist and gently punches his hand, trying to stave off a yawn. I don't take it personally. It's less than two days after the 24 hour Best Show marathon, and Tom Scharpling is exhausted. It was, by all accounts, a moment of triumph. The marathon marked both the paperback publication of his 2021 memoir, It Never Ends, as well as a kind of return to form for the beloved radio show-turned podcast. Old friends returned, new names called in and above all, it presented an opportunity for host and listener alike to reconnect with what's made the program special. We take a break from movies to welcome to the show a special guest, the writer, comedian, voice actor, and director Tom Scharpling from The Best Show with Tom Scharpling. Tom is one of the inspirations for our show, and we are so excited to finally welcome him. His 2021 best-selling memoir, It Never Ends, is being released in paperback, and in celebration, there will be a 24-hour episode of The Best Show starting July 26th. We talk with Tom about movies, the complications of the D.I.Y. ethos, the importance of R.E.M., and the strangeness of writing a memoir and remaking your life while the world is falling apart.
Here's the first episode of a new season of Fluxpod! Tom Scharpling is one of the best broadcasters in the world – he's the host of The Best Show, in which he frequently collaborates with his long-running comedy partner Jon Wurster, and the co-host of Double Threat along with Julie Klausner. This is a long and fun conversation that covers a lot of ground – the challenge of recording the audio book version of his memoir It Never Ends, how he and Jon have worked to keep the Best Show fresh for over 20 years, his relationship with Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young's bodies of work, and being terrified by Michael Stipe when he was a teenager in the early '80s. If you love Tom, this will be a big treat. If you don't know Tom... you're still probably going to have a good time with this one.

Peter asked Jesus how many times we must forgive, seven times? But Jesus responded we must forgive seventy times seven, meaning “It Never Ends.” How can one successfully forgive repeatedly? It is possible through the Holy Spirit for the believer. As a domestic violence advocate, I must clarify, although we must continue to forgive, that doesn't at all mean to go back to an abuser. Trust has been broken and may not be repairable; trust should come slowly, as one proves themselves trustworthy. What are your thoughts on this? I look forward to your feedback.Video https://youtu.be/LQMtFoNn3dIAudio https://buzzsprout.com/1275572Please subscribe to my YouTube channel, Carin Jayne Casey on YouTube. #Turn2GodwCarin #itneverends #seventytimesseven #forgiveothers #lovelikejesus

Today on the program: Tom Scharpling of The Best Show and Double Threat. He's written a deeply funny and moving new book called It Never Ends, available now wherever you get books. It documents his early days writing and producing a DIY fanzine, working his way into TV writing with Monk, and establishing a lifelong friendship and comedy partnership with drummer Jon Wurster. It's also a candid look at his struggles with mental health, and while some moments are harrowing, it's ultimately an inspirational read—an underdog story from a guy who's especially good at giving voice to the underdog. And again, very funny. Scharpling joined us to discuss the book, his incredible sound collages, Lou Reed, CSNY, Brian Eno, King Crimson, and more.

He lives and works in Follonica (GR), in his Double Vision Studio and his career began in 1995. His sound is really difficult to dene, since it crosses all or almost all the different kinds of electronic music. For instance, in 2019 he release his first album, "It Never Ends": among the 15 tracks there are also some downbeat pieces. The album comes out on Claps Records, a label that Luca runs with his friend Marco Roncetti. Among the many productions under his own name, should be mentioned at least "Tears" (it was played on the main stage of Tomorrowland too) and "Harmony", named by Pete Tong in his show on BBC Radio 1. The track for two consecutive weeks has been at the top of Dance Chart, Flow and was supported by top DJs. Over the years Luca Guerrieri remixed tracks by dozens of international artists. The long collaboration of Luca Guerrieri with Federico Scavo gave remarkable results. Among the many succesful tracks, there are "Strump (Blow It)", "Bug", "Que Pasa", "Balada", "Funky Nassau", "Words Words", "Live Your Life (with Barbara Tucker)". 01. Sandy Butler, coauthor of IT NEVER ENDS: Mothering Middle-Aged Daughters, talks about the challenges for women in remaining close – but not too close – to their daughters as they age. Butler is the author of two previous books, Conspiracy of Silence: The Trauma of Incest; and the Lambda award-winning Cancer in Two Voices. IT NEVER ENDS was a collaboration with Nan Fink Gefen. Then Amy Adrion joins us to discuss her documentary HALF THE PICTURE, which screens at the San Francisco International Film Festival April 7, 9 and 16. Adrion interviews a diverse group of women filmmakers including Ava DuVernay (Selma), Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball), Jill Soloway (Transparent), Lena Dunham (Girls) and Karen Kusama (Girlfight). Women make up only 4.5% of directors of top grossing Hollywood films annually; women of color make up 0.06%; and these numbers have not changed in twenty years. And Amanda Salazar, programmer for the 2018 San Francisco International Film Festival, fills us in on other feminist movies and events that are part of this 61st annual festival, the longest-running film festival in the US. 40 films by women and many with strong female-driven story lines are among the 180+ films on offer between April 4 and 17. The post April 2, 2018 – Mothers & Movies appeared first on KPFA.
