Should Alberta keep trying to reform Canada from inside, or take control of its own future outside Canada? David Craig sits down with constitutional lawyer Keith Wilson for an in-depth discussion on the growing Alberta independence movement. Following Keith's recent public debate with Alberta Premier Jason Kenny, this episode explores some of the biggest questions Canadians are now asking. #Alberta #CanadaPolitics #CanadianPolitics #WesternCanada #PoliticalDiscussion
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has a plan: Hold a referendum in October to decide whether to push for a legally binding referendum on independence in the future. Confused? Host Catherine Cullen has it covered. Pro-separation lawyer Keith Wilson and federalist champion Thomas Lukaszuk will share their thoughts on Smith's decision. And the godfather of Prairie populism, former Reform Party leader Preston Manning, weighs in on the vote.Plus, environmental groups are concerned about Canada's climate commitments after Carney signed an agreement with Alberta that could usher in a new oil pipeline. Is the Prime Minister simply being pragmatic or has he largely given up the fight against climate change? Current and former climate advisors Michael Bernstein and Simon Donner explain their opposing reactions to Carney's new deal. And, Conservative MP Michael Chong went to Taiwan this week… specifically because Chinese officials warned Canadian parliamentarians not to go. Chong talks to The House about his defiant trip, his hopes of shoring up peace in the region and whether he believes his travel could hurt Canada's growing economic ties to Beijing. This episode features the voices of:Keith Wilson, pro-separation lawyerThomas Lukaszuk, leader of the Forever Canadian petitionPreston Manning, former leader of the Reform Party of CanadaMichael Bernstein, CEO of Clean ProsperitySimon Donner, climate scientist and professor at the University of British ColumbiaMichael Chong, Conservative MP
If you haven't been paying attention to the Alberta separatism movement, you really should. It's been making huge and rapid strides, with significant support and evidently enough momentum to trigger an independence referendum this year. To find out what's driving the movement, Brian talks to Keith Wilson, an Alberta constitutional lawyer and leading voice for secession. Wilson explains why he thinks there is no future for the province as part of Canada — regardless of who's in charge in Ottawa — because Confederation will always be a bad deal for Albertans compared to what they could achieve on their own. And he explains why he believes most of his fellow Albertans will soon come around to seeing that, too. (Recorded May 7, 2026) Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Across the United States, cities are acting as climate first responders - carrying climate action forward even as national politics grow more hostile. From clean energy and buildings to transport, land use and resilience to extreme weather events, mayors are proving that climate leadership does not depend on federal permission. It grows from proximity: to people, to impacts, and to the places leaders are entrusted to protect. Cities are stepping in to safeguard neighbourhoods, rivers, urban ecosystems and public health, often while the federal government undermines climate policy or attacks local authority.Featured guests:Keith Wilson, Mayor of Portland, Oregon, USAKirk Watson, Mayor of Austin, Texas, USAJuliet Oluoch, Research fellow at Ustawi Analytica and youth climate activist from Nairobi, KenyaLinks:Solved: How the World's Great Cities Are Fixing the Climate Crisis by David MillerThe Fate of the Inflation Reduction Act in the Second Era of Trump - Cities 1.5Trump signs order to withdraw US from Paris climate agreement for second time - The Guardian‘Poet, writer, wife, mom': who was Renee Nicole Good, the woman killed by an ICE agent? - The GuardianMayor Keith Wilson Announces Portland Has Reached more than 1,500 Emergency Overnight Beds, Delivered at Unprecedented Speed - Portland.govCostumed protesters in Portland defy description of the city as a 'war zone' - NBC NewsAustin Climate Equity Plan$3,000 grants offered to groups addressing climate change and food access challenges - Austin MonitorMore links for this episode available at jccpe.utpjournals.press and c40.org.If you want to learn more about the Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy, please visit our website at https://jccpe.utpjournals.press/ Listen to the Cities 1.5 five-part miniseries “Going Steady with Herman Daly: How to Unbreak the Economy (and the Planet)" here: https://lnk.to/HDMiniSeries Cities 1.5 is produced by the University of Toronto Press and the C40 Centre, and is supported by C40 Cities. December 2, 2025 - The Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art presents Korean Treasures: Collected, Cherished, Shared, the first U.S. exhibition of significant works from the renowned Lee Kun-Hee Collection. On view through February 1, 2026, Korean Treasures features over 200 works, including a dozen National Treasures designated by the Korean government. The largest and most comprehensive presentation of Korean art ever mounted at the National Museum of Asian Art, the exhibition spans 1,500 years—from ancient Buddhist sculptures and ceramics to paintings, furnishings and modern masterpieces of the 20th century. Donated to the Republic of Korea in 2021 by the family of the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-Hee, the collection reflects more than 70 years of generational collecting and comprises more than 23,000 works, a testament to a decades-long commitment to preserving and sharing Korea's artistic legacy and cultural heritage. Korean Treasures presents a remarkable selection from the collection to American audiences for the first time, alongside additional loans from the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul, Korea, shown exclusively in Washington, D.C. In a conversation with The Korea Society, three curators from the National Museum of Asian Art–Carol Huh, J. Keith Wilson, and Sunwoo Hwang–explore the depth and diversity of Korean art and reflect on the practice of collecting in Korea. Over the weekend, protesters gathered in the buff to speak out against the Trump administration’s attempts to mobilize the National Guard. Last week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited Portland’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and met with high-profile leaders, including the city’s mayor Keith Wilson. Mayor Wilson urged the defense secretary to stop the use of chemical munitions and force against protesters. At the same time, Mayor Wilson’s one year promise to end unsheltered homelessness in the city is fast approaching. Mayor Wilson joins us to share more on his response to the continued protest, the ongoing threat of the National Guard and where things stand now with the city and homelessness.
Join Julie Murphy and Dion O'Reilly for a conversation that moves through love, loss, and wonder — from Yeats' “The Wild Swans at Coole” to Andrea Cohen's sharp humor in Something, Richard Siken's quiet reflections in “Kitchen Window,” and the stargazing tenderness of Keith Wilson's “there aren't enough idioms about the stars.” We'll also talk about Gabrielle Calvocoressi's moving “Miss you. Would like to grab that chilled tofu we love” and the poignant beauty of Connie Leung's “Autumn in Prison.” These poems remind us how language can hold both the ache and the brightness of being alive.

Episode 2730: Keith Wilson explains why talking about feelings can be so difficult, tracing the process from raw emotion to the words we use to describe it. He highlights how mislabeling emotions, subconscious associations, and the fear of humiliation often complicate self-expression, while also reminding us that the right listener can make vulnerability both possible and deeply healing. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://medium.com/hello-love/why-is-it-hard-to-talk-about-feelings-2747a1e90c1f Quotes to ponder: "Having the right word changes how your message is received as well as your own understanding of the feeling." "So, anyone who claims they can talk about their feelings is wrong. There is always a point beyond which they can't because feelings originate in that place beyond words and personal understanding." "Sometimes the reason it's hard to talk about your feelings is because you haven't found the right person to talk to, but keep looking." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week, Portland City Council finalized a city budget totaling over $8 billion in spending for next year. It includes more funding for alternative shelter sites and an expansion of Portland Street Response, but cuts to the office of Civic Life and less funding for the Portland Police Bureau than the mayor had requested. Mayor Keith Wilson joins us to discuss his plans for executing this final budget. We’ll also discuss the Trump administration’s calls for increased immigration enforcement in West Coast cities and the protests at Portland’s ICE facility.
Keith Wilson's first term as the mayor of Portland is off to a busy start: He's led the city through the transition to its new form of government, accounted for a $93 million shortfall in his proposed city budget — which will soon be finalized by City Council — and pushed for a big increase in spending on his signature issue of ending unsheltered homelessness in Portland. Today, we're checking in with Mayor Wilson about his first five months in office. Become a member of City Cast Portland today! Get all the details and sign up here.
