Episode 98 Krista Martin In October 1989, Krista Martin was found bludgeoned and raped in her apartment in Wichita, Kansas. Krista was a very social young woman with lots of friends and quite a bit of drama in her life – none of which led to her murder. Police investigated thoroughly, but were stumped for years. Krista's case went cold until the WPD reopened it in 2020 with a focus on the DNA evidence. Like most of DNA: ID's cases, this case never would have been solved without forensic genealogy – but in this case, the genealogical analysis uncovered a misattributed parentage event, and left one family relieved and thankful to have answers, and one family in complete denial and anger. We still don't know what happened between Krista and Paul Hart on that day in 1989. But we do know the he lived just six houses away from Krista, and that he killed her. Join us in today's episode of the Master Your Coaching Biz podcast as Cheryl Thacker welcomes her esteemed guest, Krista Martin, MBA, CPCC, PCC - is the President & Founder of Make Your Mark. As a sought after speaker and business mentor, she teaches coaches how to build and scale their coaching business in a sustainable, simple way. She's the founder of the Six Figure Impact Academy and takes a stand for helping her clients build multiple six figure businesses. The reach, impact, and personal transformation her clients achieve through the process is what makes this level of success so important. Spending more than 12 years in corporate, she has extensive business, marketing and sales experience. She built and sold her first "side biz", built a 7 figure coaching business, and now enjoys helping her clients build their business that fits into their life (instead of the other way around). She supports homeless animals and shelters with the goal of helping all pets live in a happy and healthy home Here are the great points that we talked about: Transformative Power of Speaking: Speaking can drive coaching business growth by establishing coaches as experts and engaging audiences beyond digital marketing methods. Krista Martin's Journey: Krista shares her personal transformation from a corporate job to becoming a coaching authority using speaking as a core marketing strategy. Speaking Strategies: A discussion on the importance of crafting talks that compel the audience to take action rather than just educating them. Avoiding the “Spaghetti Approach:” Coaches often make the mistake of throwing out a multitude of ideas and hoping something sticks which can dilute their message and effectiveness. Activation Language vs Education Language: There is a distinction between simply educating an audience and using language that moves them to action. Simplifying Your Message: Simplify message to make an impact, as to overwhelm clients with information can lead to inaction. Join Deb with her guest - and NEW co-host of Insinuation Podcast - , MaryAnne, from Social Detective Podcast - as MaryAnne gets personal. We talk about her best friend, Krista Martin, who was taken from us far too soon. For over three decades, Krista's case went unsolved until 2024, when The Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center played a crucial role in developing a DNA profile, which ultimately led to Krista's killer.During this episode, Maryanne reflects on her life growing up in Haysville, KS and the memories she and Krista first shared as neighbours, then later as best friends. Little did MaryAnne know that Krista would impact her life choices, or give her the drive to work endlessly to bring this case to a close. As MaryAnne comes to terms that this decades-old case is no longer cold, she and Deb also discuss the search for answers in Krista's case and the concept of what "closure" really means.Listen to new episodes every Thursday wherever you get your podcasts! Krista Martin's body was discovered by a friend in her home at 506 S Osage in Wichita, Kansas On October 2, 1989. 34 years later the Wichita Police Department along with family members hold a press conference naming a suspect in the case. For 34 years I've been battling personal demons, sending requests to family & police for any information on Krista's case. She was a neighbor, friend, & protector. Check out these episode highlights: 01:56 - Krista's ideal client: My ideal client is a coach who's been in business for a couple of years. They're probably bringing in mid-five figures. And they haven't gotten off that "getting clients hamster wheel". 02:32 - The problem she helps solve: The problem that I solve is really helping people or it's when people are unclear about how to convert from their speaking. So they're speaking on the stage, but they're not getting clients. 03:16 - The symptoms of the problem: This would be the person who does want to share their message in a really big way. And they're getting great feedback when they're in front of the room. But again, it's just like you said crickets. 05:38 - Clients' common mistakes before consulting Krista: One is, I touched on this a few minutes ago, where it's like, over-educating. So they're just pummeling their audience and their meaning well, with content, these four steps, that kind of stuff. 06:48 - Krista's Valuable Free Action (VFA): What I would encourage anyone who's listening to this saying is, "I really want to share my message. I'm really wanting to grow”, make a list of someone who's gathering your ideal client. 07:54 - Krista's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Want to learn more on how to achieve a talk that converts? Click here: makeyourmark.com/3steps 08:24- Q: What is my favorite charity to donate to? A: There's a homeless animal group here in Atlanta, that's "Angels Among Us", and donating to them is really a part of my bigger impact as a company. Krista Martin of Haysville Kansas was murdered in her home on October 1, 1989. Her murder was personal. This is more than another true crime case. Krista lived next door. Attended Campus High School. Our High School is for those of us who lived in Haysville in the eighties. But many seemed to have forgotten her murder. Or never really knew her in the first place. Autumn Bones has a great quote at the beginning of her book 'Unsolved Indiana. Murder Mysteries, Bizarre Deaths & Unexplained Disappearances. The Life of The Dead Is Placed in the Memory of The Living-Cicero. I hope I was able to provide Krista with an honorable reaccount of her memory in this podcast.
