ROAD MOVIES: Stories that move us (literally). What makes a road movie work? Dave, Cody, and guest Andy Acker break down the secret sauce — the motion that transforms the characters, the odd couples who can't escape each other, the maps that never lead where they think, and the soundtracks that make it all feel alive. They swap their own road-trip stories (buses, bison, and breakdowns included), revisit classics like Planes, Trains and Automobiles, National Lampoon's Vacation, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Little Miss Sunshine, Tommy Boy, and The Muppet Movie, and explore why these journeys still hit so hard — because sometimes, getting lost is the only way to find your people.Bonus detour: A quick look at the bizarre rise of “stay-at-home sons.”https://linktr.ee/PopCulturePastorPod

What happens two distant generations meet a movie hit from the 40's? Will it stand up or was this a huge mistake? Mario Bernardi guests with Chris Jarvie (who is literally, half his age) to talk about the best of the Bob Hope and Bing Crosby road pictures, The Road to Morocco. Is here a renaissance coming, will a new generation embrace it? Will the old generation ev en remember it? Turns out to be a pretty fascinating discussion with an unexpected obstacle to universal acceptance.
In this onetime dudes break down the genre of road films with a surprise mini-review somewhere in the middle, enjoy!

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby were both Hollywood icons, but when they teamed up to do a series of irreverent "buddy" comedies, they created another Legend -- the "Road To. . ." series. The plots were thin -- mostly an excuse to have Bob and Bing team up to break the 4th wall, unroll loads of snarky adlibs, and create some classic physical shtick. With Dorothy Lamour along for the ride, the films were a hit, and an template for decades of "buddy" pictures to follow. As always, find extra cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Bob and Bing? For most of the Road movies, the lead female role was played by the great Dorothy Lamour. Here are Bob, Bing, and Dorothy in a scene from Road to Rio. https://youtu.be/gTEvHqkQZ3c An enduring bit of physical shtick from the Road movies is "patty cake" in which Bob and Bing find an excuse to play the children's game -- starting a faux fist fight in the process and escaping whatever peril they were in. https://youtu.be/LQ-HhecZqjE Bob and Bing were gleeful violators of the old acting code that you never "break the 4th Wall" -- meaning you don't talk to the audience. Here's a fun supercut of some of their best "4th Wall" offenses from The Road to Bali. https://youtu.be/uFOKJzKt3Iw

Join us as they discuss Rutger's incredible, albeit creepy, ad-libbing, debate the outrageous review given by Siskel & Ebert in 1986, and rank the villainous roles of the late actor.Special thanks to Jason Colvin! After listening to some listener voicemails, Ned, Ivy, and Ian talk about Road Movies and the Brattle's July 2022 series "Lost in America: the joys and terrors of being lost on the road in the United States."
In all diesen sogenannten "Roadmovies" stehe sowieso die gleiche Sülze. Von Fritz Schaefer.
Is the globe warming? Cuz it's awfully hot in here as MITCHELL BEAUPRE (Letterboxd, The Film Stage) and DAN MECCA (The Film Stage) fan the flames of competition over ROAD MOVIES, guided, rewarded, and penalized the entire way by a super secret guest known only as "The Engineer". The players won't know who's causing them so much grief, and neither will you, till everything is said and done. Which film (and which players) will survive the ravages of the incinerator?
