Did you go full balls to the wall for the holidays? Did you leave it all out there on the field? If you didn't, you have another chance, New Year's Eve is right around the corner. But don't drink and drive! If you do, Gay Bob has recommendations for what to wear to jail. And apparently the Atlanta jail has a Gay Tank, which absolutely needs to be made into a musical. Follow Bob here: https://www.facebook.com/bob.killough https://www.instagram.com/killough307/ https://99xatl.com/ Episode 86 You can't make this stuff up…Bob “The Queen” Killough hails from—the Queen City—Charlotte, North Carolina. Bob aka “Gay Bob” brings a unique mix of authenticity, wit, and charisma to the airwaves. Having lived in Atlanta long enough to proudly call it home, Bob's story is deeply woven into the city's fabric. In the early '90s, Bob embraced his identity here, marking the start of a journey that would take him from a chance encounter with Fabio at Lenox Square to connecting with 99X, who helped launch his radio career. That meeting landed The Queen a spot on The Morning X show, where his quick humor and genuine connection with audiences made him a standout for many years. The Queen expanded his creative repertoire, stepping into the world of stand-up comedy. His first gig was opening for Scott Thompson of Kids in the Hall fame, a fellow queen and comedic trailblazer. Over the years, he's shared the stage with icons like Margaret Cho, performing alongside her during her time in Atlanta. Today, Bob balances a dynamic career as a full-time Physician Assistant with his continued passions for radio and comedy. Back on the air with Barnes and Leslie, he brings his sharp humor, authentic storytelling, and unique perspective weekly. Whether he's making audiences laugh in a comedy club or connecting with listeners on the air, The Queen is a master at creating moments that resonate with laughter. Atlanta based Stand Up Comedian, Amy Brown, invites funny people into her costume chamber to have fun! Join her for a weekly gigglefest where she touches on a broad range of topics like motherhood, becoming a touring comedian, book writing, seasonal depression, how dogs are better than cats, yeah, I said it. The young newlywed, Mary Shotwell Little, bought groceries for a dinner party the next evening to welcome her husband back from an out-of-town work trip. She then had dinner and went shopping with a coworker in Atlanta's Lennox Square Shopping Center. The two women parted ways in the parking lot around 8pm on October 14th, 1965. This week, we're going to talk about an Atlanta institution that's no longer with us. Priscilla, Macy's Pink Pig, had been a holiday tradition in Atlanta for more than 50 years. Macy's announced back in September that 2019 was the attraction's last year. After taking 2020 off because of the coronavirus pandemic, Priscilla is retiring. It was a rite of passage for many youngsters. It started in downtown in 1953 as a monorail along the ceiling of Rich's department store. In 2003, it moved to Lenox Square. And though it's gone now, the memories remain and we found a few folks to talk about what the Pink Pig meant to them.
What would happen if the richest neighborhood in your town declared itself its own municipality, taking with it the tax dollars of the richest 20% of citizens? That is what might happen here in Atlanta where a well-funded group is petitioning to carve the wealthy neighborhood of Buckhead (coincidentally, where I live) away from Atlanta, into its own city. This initiative has gained traction and has a very real chance of making it to the ballot in November of 2022. Not that Buckhead residents don't have good reason to be frustrated with local government. Our police force is diminished and demoralized, and crime is simply out-of-control. Aggravated assaults in Buckhead are up 52% this year over an already violent 2020. And at Lenox Square, a mall that is 2 miles away from my home, there have been a half-dozen shootings and many more armed robberies over the past year or so. It's a total freaking mess. On today's episode, I talk to Bill White, the CEO of the Buckhead City Committee, the group behind the initiative, and to Felicia Moore who is both the President of the Atlanta City Council and a candidate on the ballot for next month's mayoral election. This might sound like a local news story but I think it's relevant to all of us and relevant to the mission of this show because it's emblematic of where we are as a society and whether or not the wealthy are better off trying to isolate themselves from our relatively less-affluent neighbors and fellow citizens. I look forward to hearing your feedback. Please email me your thoughts. To learn about Felicia Moore go here. To learn more about the Buckhead City Committee, go here. In the wake of several shootings, including one involving two teens, Lenox Square will begin requiring visitors under 18 to be accompanied at all times by an adult.A Wednesday afternoon news release detailed the new policy, which is called the “youth supervision program.” Any youth will have to be accompanied by their parent or an adult who is 21 or older after 3 p.m. each day, starting September 21.The change comes after a violent two years for the mall, a premier retail destination in the heart of Buckhead. Lenox has struggled to maintain its reputation for posh shopping due to a string of headline-grabbing shootings and assaults.Join your host Sean Reynolds, owner of Summit Properties NW, and Reynolds & Kline Appraisal as he takes a look at this developing topic.https://www.ajc.com/neighborhoods/dekalb/breaking-lenox-square-in-buckhead-to-require-youths-be-accompanied-by-adults-after-3-pm/U5GLNXGIAFDKHO6UMQSKPIIKUE/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/seattlerealestatepodcast)

Business Impact on Distracted Driving and #AtlantaKindness on Georgia Business Radio Doug Rieder Chairman / Partner at Sterling Seacrest Partners I specialize in risk management and insurance & surety bond broking for medium to large commercial contractors and real estate developer / managers. Specialties: General Contractors, First Tier Trade Subcontractors, Grading / Utility Contractors and Real Estate Developers Brief Description of Product or Service: Sterling Seacrest Partners is a top-ranked insurance brokerage and consulting firm. The company serves a wide range of clients with complex property/casualty, employee benefit and personal insurance needs. Topics to Discuss: Distracted driving and businesses. Most of the discussion since the new law was passed has centered around what individual drivers can and cannot do with their phone while driving. But it's vital for businesses to have a strong plan for their employees. In our 24-hour workplace, with employees always potentially just a call or text away, every company should have policies in place to make sure their employees are abiding by the law and are safe. Leaders must set the tone for safe driving at their companies. It's not just one tactic. This should be a multi-pronged approach that ingrains safety into your company culture. 1.Talk About It - Make conversations about safe driving a regular part of new employee orientations, quarterly company meetings, more. 2.Training - Safe driving should be a part of the “new employee” training, and should be incorporated into larger training sessions. 3.Enforcement - The culture must be clear about enforcement. Employees must understand that the policy is real or it'll have no value. 4.Walk the Talk - It is important that the company actually live its plan. Kelli M. Coleman grew up in Detroit with her parents as a child surrounded by other successful African-American adults who, by all appearances, had it all. They were successful, had great careers and businesses and enjoyed loving, enduring personal relationships. This model of success became an important part of Kelli's evolution as she, at age 10, entered into the family business (her father, Don Coleman, founded Global Hue -- which is the largest independently owned multicultural advertising firm in the United states) and later as she became an entrepreneur on her own terms. What Kelly didn't expect was that her own personal development and independence -- outside of the shadow of her dad's successful business -- would require a different model. One that placed her in a position where she could either continue to meet expectations, or she could be a woman who dares. After much soul searching, and with some support, she decided to dare, and since then, Kelli has inspired other women around the world to do the same. Kelli, who is an award-winning marketer and advertising executive, is now founder and CEO of her own company, KM Coleman Group, which advises businesses led by or built for women. She is also the founder of the She Who Dares initiative, which tackles the importance of personal development and speaks to the extraordinary side in every woman through events and conversations. This Friday, December 16th, Kelli will host a free She Who Dares event in Atlanta at Lenox Square in Bloomingdales with a panel of moderated by yours truly and featuring powerhouse women including Tai Beauchamp, Valeisha Butterfield Jones, Dr. Karmetria Burton and Kelli!
