There is a greater plan and purpose. When we expand our perspectives to see clearly in front of us, there is a path there to follow. One step at a time. In this episode, I talk about healing trauma, betrayal, and mindfulness to evolve your soul and make an impact in the world with Jen Groover, Serial Entrepreneur, Global Speaker and Author of The More Method. "The more people are becoming authentic, bolder, raw, and real, the more they want more of it because it is more identifiable than when everything's perfect." - Jen Groover How do you become your own brand in the new media? Modern society has its own say for being different and bold. In this episode, Jen Groover shares what it takes to be authentic and to produce massive success in the end. Three Things We Learned Authenticity has various definitions Because of our training, there are belief systems that we abide. But it does not always work. We can be authentic just the way we are in the new media. Unique ideas can shine brightly despite the oppositions, as in the case of Spanx Founder Sara Blakely. Existing ideas have untapped potentials Creativity opens the door to greater possibilities. It knows no bounds. Existing ideas can be reimagined and transformed into outstanding ones. Influencer marketing is leading the way Industry influencers have established a name for themselves in the categories they belong. Nowadays, partnering with them to market a brand has become widely popular. They have the power to reach the information you desire. With the rise of social media and other marketing platforms, people can already choose any information they want. They also get to choose which type of authenticity they want to see or hear from. Despite how rude the language is, people still enjoy the message they receive. As Jen puts it, people can identify with it better when not everything is perfect. She constantly motivates and inspires through her key- note speaking engagements for corporations, universities and organizations all over the world. Jen continues to strive toward her ultimate goal, which is to innovate in every industry she is inspired to play in, while empowering others to achieve their goals. Jen is more than a mul- tifaceted, multitalented individual - she is, undoubtedly, a force to be reckoned with. Jen be- lieves in active participation and lives by the belief that “if you are going to complain about something you better be willing to inspire change.”
There are so many hours in a day, but we also know that everyone in the world gets the exact same number of hours. So how do some people do so much? My guest today, Jen Groover, knows. Early on in her entrepreneurial career she realized that she had to leverage herself to be able to do more than trade dollars for hours. She does this through licensing, delegating, team building and having the right supports in place for all of her different businesses. What more details on how she does it? She is more than happy to share that with you through her Jumpstart Connect Pop-up store in NYC. Not in NYC? Soon there will be a virtual version online too! Show notes: Jen Groover is a serial entrepreneur, speaker, author, and media contributor. Jen got involved in the fitness industry straight out of college when she graduated in 1995 but quickly realized that she needed to find some way to leverage herself and her time so she would not be limited to trading hours for dollars. A few of Jen’s quotes from the episode: "Once I'm comfortable I need to make myself uncomfortable again." "Licensing is a huge part of my business model." “I believe Entrepreneurs are a huge part of healing the world.” “Fear is the thing that holds people back the most. The more you can educate someone, the more you can eliminate fear.” Jen is also the author of the book What If and Why Not. This book focuses on the psychology of taking what is negative in your life and finding the positive spin. It was published in 2013. Her second book, #Empowered, will be coming out in the fall of 2017. Right now she is working on her third book, Operator's Manual for Life. Now that sounds like something we could all use now and then. Jen was also recently nominated as a UN delegate to the first ever Global Accelerator for the Global Entrepreneurs Council. For this council, each person chooses a topic that they are very good at and another that they do not know much about. Sometimes a person's ignorance in a certain field can actually bring breakthroughs from the questions they ask. The field that Jen chose as something she didn't know much about was health care. These discussions bring more innovation to the solutions around specific problems. You can connect with Jen Groover via her website at www.jengroover.com. "When You Commit Something To The Universe, The Universe Will Conspire To Align" Jen Groover Jen Groover is a non-stop source of inspiration and motivation, and in this week's conversation, she provided so many solid action steps that anyone at any time can implement into their life. Whether you are a teacher, mother, entrepreneur or have a yearning to put an idea out into the world – here are my Friday Five Favorites that will help you fast track your dreams into reality. 1. What can you say “Yes” to before you know it is going to work? Jen talks about the fact that there are a million ideas out in the world, but it is only the people who put action behind them, that move their dreams into reality. I have heard it said that ideas are worth nothing, and action is everything. What Idea have you been holding onto? What idea can you put action behind to move it out of your head and heart and into the world? What if it worked? Why not you? 2. FEAR – Jen talks about playing small to our own potential. Our fear is often the silent force that stops us from taking action. What is one thing you can do today to move your fear into the sidecar of your life? What is one thing you can do today to move your potential and passion into the driver's seat of your life? 3. What Mantra can you create to remind yourself of the powerful human being that you are? Jen’s mantra is “I have more fear of regret than a fear of failure.” My Mantra is "Be Here Now" and "It does not need to be perfect to make a difference." Write your power phrase down on post-it notes, on index cards and place them wherever you can see them throughout your day. Plant small reminders to help you stay buoyant when those doubt demons trickle into your life. 4. Is there something that is feeling super hard to get accomplished right now? Jen talks about the balance between ideas and timing and the difference between being persistent and consistent. If something feels as though it is too hard to get out into the world it may just be the timing. What would happen if you stopped pushing so much, eased up and allow for it to unfold in its right time? Do you have an idea journal? Create a space to write down all your ideas so that you can allow yourself to dream, stay inspired and free think. One day the right time will appear for the right idea – be ready –stay inspired – don’t fall asleep 5. What is one thing on your to-do list that seems daunting? – That one thing that you keep moving to the bottom of your list. Jen talks about the process she has in place that allows her to take seemingly difficult tasks and simplify the process. Sit down and break up your monster item into bite sized. Create doable mini steps and complete one each day. As Jen says “stop future tripping” Each night plan the night before for your magnificent tomorrow. That includes organizing your purse, your desk, and your mindset.
"We Are Often Playing Small To Our Own Potential" Jen Groover From her earliest memories of being tied to her chair as a young girl by “Sister Elizabeth” for being too curious, Jen Groover she knew she was intrigued by conversation and networking. In college, Jen studied education and psychology. During that time she expanded and shifted her approach to creativity and begun to apply it to her work. It just so happened that Jen's first business venture was in the world of fitness. Jen had experienced the high that comes from teaching (after facing her fears of no-one showing up for her first class) and realized that she wanted to experience the energy and high of creating something new and partnered with an existing company to open a gym space. But that was just the beginning. During this part of our conversation, we also revisit the hey day of fitness and step aerobics. It so happened Gin Miller and myself were the videos she was using for inspiration. I love that this has now come full circle and Jen is one of my mentors and reminds me how to show up fully in the world every day. Jen shares marvelous advice on how to get out of your head and into the world. How to face your fears, value your own ideas and take big action steps to put your dreams in motion. We discussed "fear" and how Jen now has more fear of regret, than fear of failure and I too am the same way. We also talk about the glass ceiling often being our own belief system. Jen talks about creativity assets are dropping out of the sky every day, but it is not until we take action that those assets can be turned into as many verticals and companies as you have time for. I ask Jen about where it is that she finds her inspiration. It was interesting to hear Jen talk about Reebok being one of the companies that she looked at to learn how to create, execute and repeat. It was then at QVC she discovered the importance of telling stories that would sell into people’s desires. It was here that she learnt the art of pitching and positioning for other brands, she then put that education behind her own company. Jen is also an expert at partnering with strong people around her to move great ideas faster and more efficiently. Take a listen and be inspired. There are so many nuggets of wisdom that can be applied into your life, whatever you are doing and whatever your dreams. [03:00] What triggered you to make a move to start your own business empire? My childhood was not ideal with a lot of uncertainties and unpredictability and fighting around money. I didn’t want that cycle when I got older. A desire to control my own fate to the point which I could. [04:05] In college, the idea of career path and the thought of getting a job is not appealing to me. [05:57] Your journey for the Butler Bag, your first product – how you went from concept to creation and what are your initial challenges? [06:25] I have twins and one day I was digging through my bag but I could not find my credit card and they were screaming and crying. I thought to myself – there has to be a better way. [07:25] You don’t complain about something unless you do something about it. [07:37] I trained myself to be inventive as I am not a designer, I can’t draw and I’m not an engineer. [08:08] Six months later, while unloading the dish washer and from a bird’s eye view I looked at the dish washer tray and everything on the tray was standing straight. This is how I want my handbag to be. [09:20] When someone looks at something, they either think: i) someone has thought of it already or ii) why haven’t I thought of that (you probably have a winning product there). [09:34] The challenges - mindset and not knowing what to do. [09:59] The obstacles - I have never done this before. [11:19] When the first shipment came, 95% of them were not the quality of leather I ordered. Had to figure out how to salvage that mistake. [12:44] What are your distribution, manufacturing and pricing strategies? [13:06] I had to figure out the cost and have a price range that is affordable. Used Kate Spade in this model. [14:14] Understand the media inside-out. Hired a trainer who taught me everything about the media and how to tell my story. [18:40] When was the right time to move to the next project, i.e. Leader Girlz? [19:03] Butler Bag was running itself. I had a team in place and started doing licensing deals which gave away a lot of responsibilities. [19:32] I was inspired when I took my daughters to Disneyland when they were 3 years old. I was telling stories to my daughters that I didn’t believe in. There must be something more relevant now. [20:27] How do you foster entrepreneurship to a girl through play? [22:12] Teaching the mindset of leadership, empowerment and that uniqueness is a power. [23:33] To take Leader Girlz to the next level and eventually to a franchise model. [25:20] How do you prioritize? To be clear on what I really want, what I’m good at and what I’m not, to be very transparent about that. To acknowledge that I can’t do it all myself. I have a supportive partner and we complement each other. Partnership is important in order to scale myself and to leverage. To delegate well. A good leader empowers people instead of manage people. Take time to rejuvenate. [28:11] Why mindset is one of the key staples to success? It is the fundamental foundation to success, not knowledge. The problems in mindset are the lack of self-worth and lack of self-belief. Key points To become aware of where our belief is coming from. To question everything. Taking all those negative beliefs and reverse them to positive. The “How Powerful I Am” statement – say it, think it, feel it! Mindset is the driving force of everything. In a recent interview for the Support is Sexy podcast (episode 109) with Jen Groover, a very successful serial entrepreneur and a mentor in my head, we spoke about this idea of not being limited by the limited beliefs of others who buy into this idea that you have to stay in one lane or have one job or be one thing when it comes to your business. Why can't you be, do, have more than one thing when it comes to what you want to create or experience in your business? Know what? You can! On this episode I talk about the beauty of "doing the most," tips on how you can figure out what the most looks like for you, and I include an excerpt from my conversation Jen about how she manages having multiple interests, passions, businesses and lanes. Back in 1995, before entrepreneurship was cool, Pennsylvania native Jen Groover didn't know exactly what it was called, but she just knew that the thought of making someone else successful based on her hard work and efforts was a warped concept. And it was a box she refused to fit in. Nicknamed "Cyclone" when she was younger, Jen became committed to creating something of her own, and then something else, and then something else. Now, Jen is a successful serial entrepreneur, inventor of million dollar product, The Butler Bag, has partnered with brands like Verizon and Avon, has been featured on television and widely throughout the press, gives keynote speaking address around the country and is an advocate for women in business and startups. On this episode, Jen talks about getting past your limiting beliefs, getting clear on what really makes you happy, how to strengthen your emotional intelligence, why you shouldn't stay in one lane, and why you should fear regret more than failure. On this episode you'll learn: Why your circumstances do not determine your destiny. How limiting beliefs stop you from moving forward. Why modeling -- and asking questions -- is so important. How having "things" isn't what will fulfills you.Getting clear on what really makes me happy. Why intentional personal growth is crucial to being a successful entrepreneur. The power of strengthening your emotional intelligence. Why sugar DECREASES your emotional intelligence. The wisdom behind strategic partnerships and licensing. Why it's foolish to think that you have to "stay in your lane." Show notes, links, contacts and resources for this episode may be found at supportissexypodcast.com. Thank you for listening! Inspired by a video called 48 Things Men Hear In A Lifetime (That Are Bad For Everyone), the Dudes look at how men are perceived and the impact those beliefs have on how men show up in the world. For many men, the things we are told as children often sets the stage for our beliefs about ourselves that can be disempowering as we carry them through our adulthood. In an ever evolving world, does the role of a man which was defined centuries ago still serve the world? Today's world is demanding a different type of man to show up. So, What does it mean to be man today and how do men show up powerfully inside of this new paradigm? The Dudes share from personal experiences the impact that the traditional beliefs around men have had on them. In the end, we hope to understand the power of our beliefs and our relationship to what it means to be a man and how we can shift them to a place that serves the world differently.
