Join the ranks as I, host Sgt. Erik Lavigne, sits down with Mike O'Connor, an Atlanta police veteran of 27 years, who takes us on a patrol through his career's most pivotal moments and the evolving landscape of law enforcement. With a city pulsating with the energy of millions during peak hours, Mike reveals how the heart of Atlanta beats beneath the uniform – from the adrenaline-rushed response to the Centennial Olympic Park bombing to the nuanced pathways of career progression within the police force. This episode is a tribute to the officers who navigate not only the streets but also the complex tapestry of public perception, political pressures, and technological advancements that shape their world.Imagine navigating the challenges of law enforcement armed with the latest technological sword, the Peregrine system, transforming detective work by connecting the dots across a sea of data. As Mike shares tales of tackling crimes that range from AC unit theft to managing massive protests, we gain a front-row seat to the strategic decision-making and resourcefulness required in the heat of the moment. His insights on the personal and professional impacts of high-profile incidents like the wrongful arrest during the Olympic bombing and the fallout from controversial police firings pull back the curtain on the toll these events take on department morale and the intricate dance of maintaining public trust. In a heartfelt exchange, Mike and I share a chuckle over our mutual admiration for a fine bourbon, and he imparts wisdom on selecting a supportive community when considering a policing career amidst today's climate. With anecdotes that span from riot control to the hum of daily proactive policing, our conversation traverses a spectrum of experiences that defines the beat of an officer's life. As we wrap up, the gratitude for this dialogue is palpable, leaving us with a deeper understanding of the men and women who don the badge, and a curiosity for the further stories that Mike will undoubtedly have to share upon his return.Support the showPlease see our Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/c/TwoCopsOneDonut

In the midst of everything that is going on, you need to find something to uplift and better ourselves as people. And this podcast has been that for myself & the listening audience all over the world. And in the middle of another black life that has been lost due to racism, a mother has carried her son's legacy and memory into a foundation that will be fundraising for an incredible cause. On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black man, was murdered during a racially motivated hate crime while jogging in Satilla Shores, a neighborhood near Brunswick, GA. Three men hunted him unjustly & as Arbery attempted to defend himself, Travis McMichael fatally shot him. The case would have been mishandled had the public interest not peaked and forced outside agencies to take over the case. On June 24, 2020, a grand jury indicted each of the three men on charges of malice murder, felony murder, and other crimes. On January 7, 2022, the McMichaels were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole plus 20 years, while Bryan was sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 30 years. Now, after 3 years since the tragedy, his mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones is keeping Ahmaud's name alive with his the 1st Annual Run With Maud 5k Walk/Run. The Run with Maud 5K Run/Walk, an initiative to celebrate the life of Ahmaud Arbery and raise funds for the foundation established in his name, will take place on May 6 in Centennial Olympic Park. "Ahmaud ran to feel free,” said Cooper-Jones, who created the foundation. “It is the goal of the Ahmaud Arbery Foundation for all people to enjoy running for their mental and physical health. The Run with Maud 5K will raise awareness for that vision and funding to provide mental health resources for black boys." This is the interview that is live on MajicATL.com as well as run during my show on Sunday afternoons, "Sunday Sirmons." THE POX and PUSS PODCAST : An Appalachian Trail Thru-Hiker Experience
We are only a few days away from celebrating the Pox & Puss Podcast's 10th anniversary. So, in honor of that day, we bring you b-b-b-b-bonus content from In The Pines, where Pox talks about his 1998 thru-hike and the cast of fugitives and bandits he met along the way. During the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, GA, Eric Rudolph detonated a 100lbs pipe bomb in Centennial Park. One person was killed and 111 were injured. Three more bombs went off in the weeks and months following the Olympic bombing. What took place after that was an all-out manhunt along the Appalachian Trail and in the Nantahala Gorge. The FBI was looking for Rudolph as far away as the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. Pox Holiday was thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail in 1998, around the same time Eric Rudolph disappeared into the mountains for almost 7 years. Pox was even questioned by a member of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park because he looked like a fugitive. In this episode, you will hear untold stories about the search for a domestic terrorist and his accomplices that never made it into a newspaper article or a television report. _____________________________________________________________ Sources https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/eric-rudolph https://www.smokymountainnews.com/news/item/27038-2003-the-end-of-eric-rudolph-s-run https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Rudolph https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centennial_Olympic_Park_bombing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nantahala_School https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocoee_Whitewater_Center https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Kaczynski#Incarceration https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Jewell https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/longterm/rudolph/bio.htm https://www.blueridgeoutdoors.com/features/the-hunt-for-eric-rudolph/ https://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/fbi-probes-unabomber-connection-tylenol-killings/story?id=13638602 https://www.ourmidland.com/news/article/Eric-Rudolph-Timeline-7106329.php https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna7398701 https://history.capitolbroadcasting.com/media-assets/into-these-hills-documentary-about-the-hunt-for-eric-rudolph/ https://www.police1.com/police-heroes/articles/former-security-guard-richard-jewell-memorialized-a-hero-ivkeQ57uGKNAQuVw/ https://baxterstatepark.org/general-info/ https://www.operationmilitarykids.org/types-of-military-discharge/

The 1996 Olympic Summer Games were truly magical, but 9 days into the events held in Atlanta, GA, a bomb ripped through a crowd of people at the adjoined Centennial Olympic Park. Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas in July, my dudes! Wait, I'm being told this isn't about that Rudolph. Eric Robert Rudolph spent more than his fair share of time on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List (what, exactly, is a fair share of time on that particular list?) partially because of the heinousness of his four bombings - the most infamous of which took place at Centennial Olympic Park in the midst of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta - and in part because his survival skills (and maybe some sympathetic locals) allowed him to elude capture for nearly a decade. This week, we look at his story. BUT FIRST! This Week in Murder takes an emergency look at the Highland Park mass shooting, a horrible discovery in a Texas Big Rig, and a domestic dispute turned armed standoff in rural Kentucky in This Week In Murder. And, as always, we finish things off with a game of Who Died The Worst! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/murdermydude/support

Eric Rudolph. On July 27, 1996, the world sat shocked to its core as a crudely made pipe bomb exploded in the middle of the crowded Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta Georgia. 2 people were killed and over 100 people were injured. A bomb exploding in a park is terrorizing enough, but the timing of this bomb, One week into the 96 Summer Olympic games seemed to violate the Olympic spirit. It would take the FBI nearly 7 years to capture the Olympic bomber, and before his capture 3 more bombs would take the lives of 2 more people and injuring many others. for details, show notes, and pictures please visit Thearchivistpodcast.comSources for this episode: FBI.govBomb sears nation's soul by Andrew Martin and Karen Brandon (Chicago Tribune, July 28, 1996)‘Hero' guard a suspect (News Journal, Mansfield OH July 31, 1996)Olympic bombing suspect becoming more optimistic by Mitchell Lansberg (The Anniston Star, Anniston Alabama, August 2, 1996)Olympic bombing probe plods along. He discovered a backpack containing three pipe bombs on the park grounds and helped evacuate the area before the bomb exploded, saving many people from injury or death. Three days after the bombing, Jewell had become the primary suspect in the bombing after being falsely identified as a suspect by newspaper report Kathy Scruggs and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/michael-c-bouchard/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/michael-c-bouchard/support

This week on the Living Sport Podcast, we have a LIVE edition episode that was recorded while in Atlanta, Georgia during our recent Sport Business Program. Atlanta has a rich Olympic history, hosting the Games in 1996. Olympic Rings can still be found around town and make for a great photo op. While in Atlanta, we surprised our group when we introduced them to an actual Olympian who participated in the ‘96 Games. Today we share with the world our conversation with Liliya Podkopayeva, Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast from Ukraine, who since has made Atlanta her home. Liliya shares some really great motivation and advice in this short segment including how she almost gave up on gymnastics the year before winning her gold medal proving that if your heart is set on something, you should continue to give it all you have despite the obstacles. Enjoy the sounds of Atlanta as this episode was recorded right outside of Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown,
Tim serves on the executive leadership team guiding long-term social and environmental strategy for a 220+ acre campus that includes the 4M SF convention center, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the former Georgia Dome, Centennial Olympic Park, and the upcoming Hilton Signia hotel. GWCCA also operates the Savannah Convention Center in Savannah, GA. In this role, he oversees a team focused on executing day-to-day practices including waste diversion and volunteerism. Tim also helped develop and now leads the organization’s first Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) council. Tim Trefzer Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: Managing sustainability over a large campus COVID-19's impact on the sports world and how GWCCA has given back The value of LEED certification vs. building to standards Advice and recommendations for sustainability leaders Tim's Final Five Question Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? I'd give different advice to professionals in different stages of their careers. If I had to give one common piece of advice, it'd be to network and generate those relationships with other individuals that are in the industry, or maybe even not in the industry. When I moved to Atlanta in 2008, I met with a gentleman who is part of, at the time it was called Sustainable Atlanta, it's evolved into the city's sustainability department. The first thing he told me was, it's not about what you know, it's about who you know in this industry. I've really come to find and believe that that's true. It's really about those connections and sustainability. If you're looking for success, whether it's in a business or just personally, it's all about creating those relationships with other individuals, understanding where they're coming from and getting them speaking their language. I've really found that it's a person to person business, and generating those close relationships and that network with others has been really beneficial to me. That's where I'd say others would also benefit. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? You mentioned it's November and last week was the presidential election. Without getting too political, I'll say that with a Biden administration coming in, I think they will turn the trajectory of our environmental work, at least in this country, around. They, I hope will, reset some of the practices and policies that we've seen change over the last four years. Based on the plan of the Biden administration from an environmental standpoint, rejoining the Paris climate accord, setting very strong targets for the country from a carbon emission reduction standpoint, I'm excited about that. I hope that they'll have a tremendous impact on the world of sustainability, and I believe they will. What is one book you would recommend sustainability professionals read? Ray Anderson is a hometown hero in Atlanta, and his book Confessions of a Radical Industrialist, I think is a phenomenal book that any sustainability or business professional should read. Ray Anderson is the founder of Interface, the carpet manufacturing company here in Georgia. It's really just a great book looking at how business can change the world from an environmental standpoint; it can do positive good for both business from a bottom line standpoint, but business from an environmental standpoint. That book, which was written in the nineties, has come to set the standard for business. I think it's just a phenomenal book. That's probably the first of a number of books that Ray Anderson has written that I'd recommend the audience read. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? Some of my go-to resources: GreenBiz, Sustainable Brands. I do a lot of research in the Harvard Business Review, Bass company. One that I've found a lot of value lately has been Boston College's Center for Corporate Citizenship. They provide a lot of great work from a CSR standpoint. But going back to your first question, I think networking and creating those relationships and working with other individuals like US Green Building Council and the Green Sports Alliance, those organizations have really provided a lot of benefits. I've got a number of different resources and tools, but those are some of the ones that stand out. Where can our listeners go to learn more about you and your work at the Georgia World Congress Center Authority? You can go to our website GWCCA.org. You can also find me on LinkedIn, or on Twitter at Tim_Trefzer. Any of those would be great and I'd love to connect with your audience.
This week, we'll take a look at ways to explore Atlanta's musical history. They're a little different than the Fountain of Rings at Centennial Olympic Park or the Big Chicken in Marietta, but musical landmarks around the city — and state —maintain their own charm. The continued growth of the music industry in the city and region, coupled with its peerless history, means plenty of opportunities to swing by iconic spots, both new and old. On this week's podcast, the AJC's music writer Melissa Ruggieri will talk about some of the places that celebrate Atlanta's musical legacy.

Director of Exhibits and Education at the Children's Museum of Atlanta Karen Kelly is the studio for today's Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio episode. Joined by co-hosts Carol Morgan and Todd Schnick, the group discusses a new Mo Willems exhibit, The Pigeon Comes to Atlanta! The group also discusses upcoming events, membership and ways to get involved on this Around Atlanta Segment of Radio. Kelly has worked with the Children's Museum for the past 14 years and been an Atlanta resident since 1982. With two kids of her own, Kelly's work at the Children's Museum speaks to her both on a professional and a personal level. The Children's Museum of Atlanta is an interactive, hands-on, minds-on museum for children from 0-9 years of age. The museum not only serves metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia but also accommodates visitors from all over the Southeast region of the United States. Right near Centennial Olympic Park, the World of Coke and the Atlanta Aquarium, the museum is in the heart of the best Atlanta attractions. Pre-COVID, the museum welcomed over 200,000 guests a year. The great hands-on exhibits, permanent exhibits and on-going programming help make this museum a fantastic place for children to come learn, explore and have a good time! The Pigeon Comes to Atlanta! a Mo Willems exhibit is currently being hosted by the museum. This exhibit is all about the popular book series from children's author Mo Willems. Featuring characters including Pigeon, Piggie, Elephant and Naked Mole Rat, this exhibit was developed by The Children's Museum of Pittsburgh in conjunction with Willems himself. “One of the things I love about Mo Willems and his work, is he wants to give children great situations to work in, but let them figure things out for themselves,” said Kelly. “So, this exhibit is about some of that embedded into the museum itself. Kids learn about resilience and trying things over and over again and having fun.” Activities for children to participate in at the new Mo Willems Exhibit include launching foam hot dogs at Pigeon, dressing up Naked Mole Rat for a runway fashion show, spinning at the laundromat with Knuffle Bunny, dancing with Elephant and Piggie, trying out Mo Willems art techniques and so much more. “Children learn in all different kinds of ways,” said Kelly. “It matters that its hands-on because children learn through doing, especially at this age. They are natural scientists.” With plenty of opportunities for visual, interactive, auditory and other forms of learning, children from a wide range of ages can greatly benefit while also having fun. The exhibit will be up through May 9, 2021, and the museum is asking that visitors make a reservation online before attending here. Due to the risks of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the Children's Museum of Atlanta is taking several precautions to limit the spread of the virus and keep visitors safe. Face masks are required at all times and the museum is implementing social distancing measures. The museum staff also completely cleans the exhibits and areas three times a day in between sessions. The Children's Museum of Atlanta has a fantastic membership program for parents to utilize to maximize learning and fun. Memberships include unlimited free entry for one year, 10% off general admission for accompanying guests, discounted admission to select ticketed museum events, invitations to members-only exhibit previews and other additional benefits. This week on Hashtag History, we are discussing the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park Bombing, an absolutely tragic incident in which a pipe bomb was placed at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia during the Summer Olympics that would take the life of one person and injure another 111. This bomb was placed by Eric Rudolph, an American terrorist, who would go on to plant three more bombs over the course of the next two years. Perhaps one of the worst things to come from the Centennial Olympic Bombing though is that the blame would be placed on the wrong man. Jewell would be investigated by the FBI and publicly blamed for the bombing - socially ridiculed and isolated - for several months before the FBI shifted their focus to Rudolph. In the Moment 1996 following the bombing at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta.
Every four years, the world comes together to compete in the summer Olympic games. The 1996 Olympics were particularly exciting, hosted by the city of Atlanta, Georgia. However, all of the buzz and excitement came to a screeching halt when a bomb went off in Centennial Park a week into the festivities. Why would someone commit such a heinous act? What took authorities so long to catch the bomber? And was justice served for the evil acts he committed? This is True Crimecast.

In 1996, week one of the Summer Olympics in Atlanta concluded with a celebration in Centennial Park. The excitement of thousands quickly turned into chaos.
Kevin Salwen is the co-author of a book about the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. The book — "The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, the Media, and Richard Jewell, the Man Caught in the Middle" — was, in part, the inspiration for a controversial film about the bombing and the man who was falsely accused for it. In this segment, host Sarah Fenske talks with Salwen ahead of his presentation at Central Reform Congregation in St. Louis.

She's also training to be a firefighter, has a passion for fostering children, and is working to instill her trademark mental toughness in her own daughter. In this interview led by Kara and Shanna, we cover it all. Kellyn tells us about her Wisconsin roots where she grew up doing gymnastics and playing soccer before running became her primary sport. She talks about her transition into pro running with MacMillan Elite before she made the shift to work with Ben Rosario at NAZ Elite. She gives us the details behind her running highs and lows including two narrow misses for making the Olympic team in 2016 in both the marathon and 10K, her DNF at Boston in 2018 in nor'easter conditions, and her big PR in 2:24 at the Grandma's Marathon just 8 short weeks after the Boston disappointment. In addition, she shares personal stories about returning from pregnancy to run again and the roller-coaster ride it can be as a foster parent. Finally, we discuss the clean sport culture within NAZ Elite and Kellyn's perspective on the great shoe debate, including why she believes that all carbon fiber plates should be banned. Like her teammates from this interview series Steph Bruce and Scott Fauble, Kellyn is an open book who isn't afraid to tell it like it is, and we appreciate her so much for that. We are excited to cheer her on from the sidelines in Atlanta next weekend! As mentioned in the closing to the interview, you can meet the Clean Sport Collective podcast co-hosts in Atlanta on Saturday (Feb 29). We will be offering a 3-mile shake-out run with Kara, Shanna, and Chris at 8:30 am from the Olympic Rings in Centennial Olympic Park near the Trials finish line. Come for the run, meet the hosts, and get your CSC temporary tattoo to rep as you cheer for the Trials!

Richard Jewell first got the world's attention when the security guard spotted a suspicious bag at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park in 1996. The bag had a live bomb that detonated minutes after spectators began to evacuate. At the time, Jewell was credited for saving countless lives and was quickly considered a hero. At least for a few days. Jewell would soon become the FBI's main suspect and the same media that was once praising him, was soon trying to convict him in the court of public opinion. It would take nearly three months for Jewell to be cleared. The incredible story of Richard Jewell is now being told in the new Clint Eastwood film that shares his name. Earlier this week, The Fox News Rundown's Dave Anthony spoke with former Wall Street Journal editor Kevin Salwen and former US Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia Kent Alexander to revisit what happened in 1996. The authors of "The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, the Media, and Richard Jewell, the Man Caught in the Middle" looked in to Jewell's case and explained on The Rundown why he went from hero to villain so quickly. Salwen and Alexander discussed how both overzealous investigators and journalist mistreated Jewell and why it took so long to clear his name. On The Fox News Rundown Extra you will hear more about the case from Kevin Salwen and Kent Alexander. The authors also discuss Clint Eastwood's new movie, and their roles as contributing sources on the film. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
When a bomb went off at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta during the 1996 Olympic Games, Richard Jewell, a security guard hired to man the games, discovered the bomb and helped clear the area. He was initially hailed as a hero. But the tides quickly turned on Jewell, when the FBI and the media together began to circle Jewell as the primary suspect for the bombing. “Mistaken: The Real Story of Richard Jewell” is an audio documentary with one goal: to tell the truth about what happened to Jewell in 1996.
On Second Thought aired a special broadcast about the story of how Richard Jewell's life changed when The Atlanta-Journal Constitution published his name as the primary suspect in the 1996 bombings at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park. In that audio documentary, we learn about how Jewell's legal team sued The Atlanta-Journal Constitution — along with other news organizations — for defamation. The AJC fought the suit, and eventually won. Now, the paper is disputing how it is being portrayed in the film Richard Jewell , which hits theaters today.
In the late 1990's and early 2000's, the name Richard Jewell became a newsroom watchword — a code for false accusations and warnings against rushing to judgment when reporting on criminal investigations.
The University of California is being sued for requiring incoming students to take the SAT and ACT test as part of their admissions process. The lawsuit claims the tests violate California's civil rights laws by discriminating against disabled, low-income and underrepresented minority students. Scheper Kim & Harris attorney Gregory Ellis, who represents students and organizations suing the university, and Reason.com associate editor Robby Soave weigh in on the lawsuit and if the SAT and ACT should be removed from college admissions overall. The story of Richard Jewell captured the world's attention when the security guard spotted a suspicious bag at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park in 1996. The bag had a live bomb that detonated minutes later. Jewell quickly fell from hero to the FBI's main suspect. Former Wall Street Journal editor Kevin Salwen and former US Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia Kent Alexander are the authors of The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, the Media, and Richard Jewell, the Man Caught in the Middle. They discuss how the public's intense need to find the bomber shaped the narrative and why Richard Jewell's life was unjustly ruined forever. Plus, commentary by FOX News Contributor Gianno Cladwell. In July 1996, a back pack bomb rocked the Summer Olympics in Atlanta killing one person and injuring over 100 others. The bomb had been left under a bench in the middle of Centennial Olympic Park on the eighth day of the games. On this episode of History of the 90s, host Kathy Kenzora looks back at the tragedy that struck the 100th games and the police investigation that followed. Security Guard Richard Jewell who discovered the bomb before it exploded was first hailed a hero. Then just a few days later he was identified as the main suspect by the media who had a field day with his reputation. This is the story of Richard Jewell, a cautionary tale about what happens when the police and the media rush to judgment. On Tuesday, July 30, 1996, Richard Jewell was praised as a hero on NBC's Today Show . The security guard hired for the Summer Olympics in Atlanta spotted a suspicious knapsack at Centennial Olympic Park, where tens of thousands of visitors gathered. Two people died and 111 were injured when the bomb inside the knapsack exploded. Jewell's vigilance and the evacuation that followed likely saved hundreds of lives. But less than 12 hours after chatting with Katie Couric, Jewell was being questioned by the FBI as the primary suspect in that bombing.
With Eric Rudolph in custody and facing life in prison for the Centennial Olympic Park bombing, as well as the bombings of two abortion clinics and a lesbian bar, it would seem that justice had been served. But had it? Even though he would get his dream job, Richard Jewell would spend the rest of his life facing the stigma of being originally suspected as the Olympic bomber. The court rulings in his favor and even parodies on Saturday Night Live never completely erased the moniker of “bombing suspect” that he had acquired.
From mid 1996 to early 1998, four bombings occurred starting at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, GA during the 1996 Summer Olympics that the city was hosting. Not long after, a family planning facility and a lesbian nightclub were also targeted. With multiple dead and over a hundred injured, the police and FBI begin a manhunt.Demographic SurveyEpisode PageEpisode Sources:Eric Rudolph FBI pageCNN articleAnti-Defamation League articleSouthern Poverty Law Center articleSouthern Poverty Law Center articleChurch of Israel WikiAJC articleBlue Ridge Outdoors articleAtlanta.net articleSmoky Mountain News articleSocial Media:WebsiteInstagramTwitterGoodreadsIntro Music:She-Wolf In My Heart (bonus) by Sergey Cheremisinov is licensed under a Attribution License.Outro Music:Trio for Piano Violin and Viola by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License.

On this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we talk about one of the most famous cases of domestic terrorism in the USA: the 1996 Olympic Bombing. The date was July 27, and the concert in the Centennial Olympic Park was going full speed. Then, just before midnight, a call came in to police saying a bomb was going to detonate in the concert in a half hour. Eighteen minutes later, the triple pipe bomb exploded. One person was killed, and over 100 were wounded. However, the damage was not as bad as it could have been in the Olympic Bombing. A security guard named Richard Jewell found the bomb, called several law enforcement agencies, and got people evacuated. They say without his swift action, many more deaths would have happened that night. He was repaid for his heroism by being the primary suspect in the FBI investigation! Meanwhile, the real bomber, Eric Rudolph got away and planed several more bombings. He blew up two abortion clinics and a lesbian bar, killing one more and injuring others. Why did he do all this? Well for one, he was a wackadoo. He was part of a "Christian Identity" movement that reinterprets the Bible in line with their white power teaching. Second, he wrote rambling letters blaming abortion, the US Government, and the homosexual agenda for ruining the world. Solution? Blow up an Olympic after party? Good call. The really interesting part of this was that after he was identified as the architect of all four bombings, he evaded law enforcement for years by living the rough Appalachian Mountains on his own in full survival mode. The FBI kept pressure on him with regular patrols because they figured it would keep it on the run and unable to bomb again. They were right. When Rudolph was busted doing a dumpster dive for food, he confessed to several caches of dynamite (250 pounds!) near where the FBI was headquartered. If you’re into true crime, survivalism, White Power lunatics, and the madness that was the 1990s, this one is for you! Oh, and did I mention that his gay brother cut off his own hand with a radial saw to prove a point to the FBI? FBI Statement on The Bomber: https://www.fbi.gov/history/famous-cases/eric-rudolph

My Experiences With Atlanta, GA If you are connecting with me and us for the first time with FIT Life Creation, I live in Atlanta. Since I live here I thought it would be great to do our first one day guide on Atlanta. For a few years, Atlanta was on my radar to visit. In between life and other travel, I hadn't gotten to it yet. When I first came here for an interview, I loved it right away. It really is the city beneath the trees. The second time I came here I took the train out of the airport directly to Buckhead. Anytime I travel, whether domestically or internationally, I love having convenient public transformation. I've lived here since 2010. I moved to Atlanta when I was promoted with an energy company to be their Chief Audit Executive in Buckhead in Atlanta. I chose to stay when I became a full-time entrepreneur in 2011 because of the innovative, eclectic, and diverse energy here. I've gotten to experience most if not all the Top Atlanta sights like Centennial Park, CNN Center, Civil Rights Center, and Ponce City Market. For the foodies, my yummiest moments with friends and family include Two Urban Licks, Mary Mac's Tea Room, Eat Flower Child, and True Food's Kitchen. I've moved and grooved at fitness studies and danced the night away at Atlanta's dance clubs too. Even though I live here, I love get a ways and having a staycation in the city too. Fun Facts About Atlanta, GA There are over 400,000 people living within the city limits. Atlanta is great to live in, and great to visit. Atlanta is home to CNN, Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium and the National Center for Civil & Human Rights - some of my favorites. It's called "Hollywood of the South", it's home to Tyler Perry Studios, and the movie Bad Boys was filmed here too. It's hosted two Super Bowls (I've been to a Atlanta Falcon's game in 2010), home to Atlanta Hawks NBA Team (I've been to 2 games), and home to Atlanta Braves MLB (I went a game when my friend, Isabel came to visit in 2010, and I volunteered at a game once for Leukemia & Lymphoma's Society: Team In Training!). It is a city that rises from the ashes. During the Civil War, Atlanta was the only city in all of North America to be destroyed in an act of war. The city later adopted the phoenix as the city symbol. Two of Atlanta’s sons won the Nobel Peace Prize – Martin Luther King in 1964 and President Jimmy Carter in 2002. The city has many diverse neighborhoods. I love living in Buckhead because I walk everywhere or jump on the train. I take Lyft or Uber maybe 2-4 times a month. It's that walkable here in this part of the city (and others), and public transportation friendly. One Day In Atlanta: Itinerary to Transform and Travel in Atlanta. Today, there are Super Bowls being fought across America -- not just the New England Patriots vs. the L.A. Rams, but teams of Terrorists vs. Islamophobes. In Atlanta, law enforcement has been preparing for years to provide security, not just at the stadium, but in areas where fans are likely to go, such as Centennial Olympic Park. Yet, an undercurrent of fear is present. Meanwhile, teams of Terrorists and teams of Islamophobes are fighting -- not directly in a stadium -- but fighting for their opposing causes. They, too, are cheered on by crowds of raving fans -- not in the stands, but unseen. A team of Terrorists in Michigan was recently arrested for supporting ISIS. Born in Kenya, these men became U.S. citizens and posted pro-ISIS propaganda on social media until they came to the attention of undercover FBI agents. At the same time, a team of Islamophobes in New York was arrested, narrowly preventing them from carrying out their plot to attack the Muslim enclave of Islamberg. The difference is that, for these teams... it's not a game.

The shrine gleamed in the winter sun, as I took my place in the queue of pilgrims waiting to pay homage. The atmosphere bubbled with excitement - the anticipation of ecstasy, which called the faithful to flock here from all over the world. This modern house of worship was dedicated to the glory of its god in just 2007. In fact, the deity it houses is a mere youngster - its incarnation occurring just 132 years ago. Yet, despite its brief life, this idol has won billions of devotees from every nation, tribe, and tongue. Worshipers often refer to their savior as "The Real Thing". For they have tasted and seen that their lord is good. And now, in downtown Atlanta, in the corner of Centennial Olympic Park, proudly rubbing shoulders with the 20-year ghosts of the world's best athletes, I was visiting this place of prayer, this temple of tacky, this mind-blowing tribute to instant gratification.

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Dawn McClain has emerged from the same rich soil of so many other great African American singers. Like so many powerhouses and trailblazers in music, Dawn began singing in the church at a very early age. An 80's baby with a splash of 60's and 70's influence, and a sprinkle of gospel roots, she blends and bridges the generation gap between these eras in music, melodically suspending time. Ms. McClain is a Veteran of the United States Air Force, and a natural humanitarian and advocate for women’s health and cancer awareness. Dawn was diagnosed in 2010 with ovarian cancer. Never one to faultier she embraced cancer with GOD’s grace and has been in remission now for four years. Dawn McClain calls the show she gives “The Experience”, because it is just “that” an Experience. If you ask her, how she would like to live out the rest of her days… She would say, “Performing”. There is nothing that she loves more than the opportunity to interact with her supporters. In “The Experience”, she gives you all the passion her heart can give, by filling the room with and bathing the crowd in the essence of song. Music with passion and force, sensuality and jazz, bluesy rock-steady R&B, funk and futuristic soul...that is, “classic soul groove gumbo”. Your ears will be tantalized with the vocal influences of her mentors, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Rachelle Ferrell, Jill Scott, and Ledisi. Ms. McClain’s career thus far has been a journey filled with “rare” opportunity for a independent artist. She calls it a blessing and God’s grace, that her projects (“The Love Project”, “Dance Chronicles”, and her most resent release “Life is Beautiful” ) were touched with production and co-writing collaborations, from some of the industry’s most sought after Grammy nominated writers and producers. She has graced the stage and performed with Industry legends such as Roberta Flack, Jeane Carne, Ann Nesby, Kem, Gordon Chambers, Tony Terry, Mint Condition, K-Ci & Jo-Jo, Stevie Wonder, N' Dambi Blu, Liv Warfield, Lela James, Erykah Badu, Donnie, Frank McComb, Johnny Gill, Malcom Jamal Warner, and Chrisette Michele. She has been featured on Good Day Atlanta, V-103’s “Art and Jazz”, 102.5's “Art & Soul” Summer Music Series, Centennial Olympic Park's “Wind down Wednesdays, Amateur Night at the Apollo (and won), and the highly acclaimed Michael Baisden Show. Her latest project Life Is Beautiful features “Cant Call It Love”. The heartfelt ballad, produced by Grammy award winning producer Dave "Jam" Hall, finds Ms. McClain showcasing her vocal prowess as she sings about a woman who is in a no strings, sexual relationship with a married man. “OOO, Not the way my momma raised me/ or what my father'd be proud of/ got caught up in my own fantasy/ and I can't even call it love/ it just feels good/ I can't even call it love/ but I want it /I can't even call it love/ cause I need it" she belts. When asked what was her inspiration for the record she states, " I wanted to write something controversial, something no other female performer/writer in this day and age was brave enough to write about. "Can't Call it Love" is about a woman who is with this man just for sex. She knows it's wrong, she knows what's at stake, but she doesn't care. Although I don't agree with creating any type of sexual relationship with a married man, I believe a lot of women have found themselves in this type of situation. I have friends who do this, I've listened to them explain to me why they would take such risks, and "Can't Call it Love" is my translation of how I think they feel." Ms. McClain is currently doing dates, her next scheduled show “An Evening With Dawn McClain featuring Mista P Jones” is on December 6th at the JunkYard Bar & Grill in Houston, Texas. She is also working on new music and collaborating with other artist on their projects. When asked about working with Dawn McClain, Kathy Liautaud of KLPR Group stated, “Dawn McClain is a passionate, fearless, resilient artist that didn’t allow her adversaries to hinder her goals, she used it as fuel and inspiration to accomplish them. She is multi talented and a breath of fresh air to the industry; she doesn't compromise herself to follow the popular trend. We are honored to have her on our roster”. Dawn McClain is a brilliant, gifted and stellar talent on the rise and is destined to reach super star status and become a household name.
John and Patsy Ramsey, Richard Jewell, and Gary Condit are names everyone has heard as they were all on trial in the court of public opinion. These cases were spread throughout the media and, even though there was never an arrest made in any, the public had judged the accused. L. Lin Wood was the lawyer representing these individuals as they fought for their reputations. An expert in First Amendment litigation and management of the media in high-profile cases, Wood has been referred to as "the attorney for the damned." On this episode of The Paralegal Voice, Vicki Voisin has the opportunity to interview L. Lin Wood about the benefits and difficulties in representing high-profile individuals and how a paralegal can be most effective in these cases. Wood began his career in defamation cases when he represented Richard Jewell in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing case and has since represented the Ramseys, Gary Condit, attorney Howard Stern, and many others in whom the media took a particular interest. He describes how fighting against the media can be different than a regular plaintiff and how he protects his clients from public accusations. He explains that there are additional issues when dealing with a public figure including when to sue for slander and how to control what his clients say to the media. In terms of paralegals working in libel cases, there are three qualities Wood expects: acute knowledge about the case, understanding of the situation, and ability to keep track of a wealth of information coming from the media. L. Lin Wood is an Atlanta attorney who has developed a national reputation during his more than 36 years as a trial lawyer focusing on civil litigation, representing individuals and corporations as plaintiffs or defendants in tort and business cases involving claims of significant damage. He can be found at www.whetriallaw.com. Special thanks to our sponsors. Episode 79 - 10/14/12 Oakland Raiders @ Atlanta Falcons - Raider Nation Invades Atlanta The pregame tailgate party hosted by the Atlanta Raiders Booster Club. The party began at 9am in Centennial Olympic Park, just a few blocks from the Georgia Dome. The Raiders led at halftime, but the Falcons took a late 7 point lead. The Raiders tied the game 20-20 with only 40 seconds remaining, but that was enough for the Falcons to get in position for a game winning 55 yard field goal. A disappointing yet exciting game for Raider Nation, and it does give us reason to believe our team is headed in the right direction. We will be posting more video from this weekend, including the Saturday night Altanta Boosters party, interviews with Raiders legends George Atkinson and Ted Hendricks, and more.....with your host Raider Greg.
