Why We Do Christmas MESSAGE SUMMARY: Introduction: We are still in the season of Advent, which means “coming” or “arrival”. The Church begins this season of “arrival” or Advent as the time we recognize and celebrate the “arrival” of Jesus – both Jesus' “first coming” and His “second coming”. We celebrate Jesus' “first coming” on Christmas Eve. The season of Advent is, also, a season of hope; and Advent is the beginning of our Church's “New Year”. Message: What does Christmas mean to you? “Could we be missing the point of what Christmas is all about”? Irrespective of all the personal, social and cultural noise we encounter around the Christmas season, we must not lose sight of the fact that Christmas is all and only about Jesus. At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of the most important person that ever lived – the God and man Jesus. Is this birth and life of the Incarnate and unique Son of God, as both the Creator of the Universe and the Savior of humankind, true? The answer is a resounding “Yes!” because Jesus birth and life are based upon historical evidence. Also, the birth of Jesus is God coming among us in a desire to have a personal relationship with us and with all people. If God is so desirous of a personal relationship with us, why did God go to so much trouble to bring Jesus to us? Because, every time we sin, we are building a barrier between us and God – God is Holy, and He cannot relate to sin. Therefore, God's Grace provided Jesus as both the means of our Salvation and as an intermediary (i.e. Jesus is both God and a human without sin) from which we can have God's desired personal relationship with us. However, when Jesus died on the cross, He took on all sin and became the required and once offered sacrificial payment for all sin. Jesus birth, life, death and Resurrection became the doorway for our personal relationship with God. As Jesus tells us in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man {Jesus}came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”. “God loves us because of who God is.” Why do so few of us accept God's offered gift of Salvation through His Grace? When those not yet believing look at the lives of those of us that believe, they, often, they see us living by the fruit of the flesh rather than by the fruit of the Spirit – our hypocrisy. Also, God's offer is rejected because He may require us to give up some sin that we enjoy. Additionally, some believe that the cost of becoming a Christian is too great; however, the cost of not becoming a Christian is far greater than the cost of becoming a Christian and accepting God's offer. Many refuse God's gift because they believe that they are not worthy or good enough for God and His gift. They are correct; none of us are worthy of God's gift, but that is the point – Jesus' birth, life, death and Resurrection provide us with the means a path to be worthy of God's gift. Is Jesus your Savior? God has given you the greatest Christmas gift that you will ever receive. Have you accepted His Gift and opened His gift into your life? If not, then why not? With your hands open, you can accept God's Christmas gift by saying: “I am sorry; thank you; and please”. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 133). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). This message was preached by Pastor Madison Mechler at Church Eleven32 in Allen, Texas. We have so many ways of coping with stress and worry, yet anxiety is at an all-time high in our world. When we can be more imaginative, we can get into that world and set our minds free. We can rise above our anxieties and realize it's not the world we have to live in. The good news is that there is creativity in each one of us. But why are many people afraid to express it? In this conversation, Adam speaks with Phil Lashley, a highly sought-after motion designer renowned for transforming ideas into unforgettable visuals. With 15+ years in the motion design industry, Phil has worked with multiple award-winning post-production studios in Hollywood responsible for marketing feature films such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, and multiple Superbowl commercials. As an experienced visual storyteller, Phil uses his signature framework to help ultra-busy thought leaders turn their ideas into videos and visuals that stand out and are unforgettable. Listen in as Phil teaches ways to tap into your imagination and bring that creativity forward! Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: How expressing creativity creates fear How FRAME works What Phil was running away from and running towards Being intentional about getting deeper with your clients The power of imagination as an empowerment tool Episode Highlights: [09:19] How Expressing Creativity Creates Fear We're all born creative. When we have a problem, we then create a solution. The thoughts that are wrestling in your head don't really create that much fear because you're not ashamed of what it looks, feels, sounds, or smells like. But from the moment you decide to express what you're thinking, then it becomes this whole state of almost embarrassment or risk. Hence, the more you express your creativity, the easier it becomes, like a muscle that you have to work out. There's something about embracing change that is directly linked to this muscle of creativity [23:01] FRAME: How to Connect with Your Audience/Customers on a Deeper Level Feelings - What are the feelings you want to evoke among your audience? Related concept - What concept are you going to use that aligns with your message? Aesthetics - Make yourself familiar with any template design template, and go from there. Have some consistent fonts and colors. If you're not a designer, collect inspirational images that you can pass on to a designer and this would save them a lot of work. Message - What is the one message? Focus on just one message, otherwise, the audience is not going to remember anything. Expression - How else can you express this piece of communication? (ex. Merch like t-shirts, hoodies, fridge magnets, etc.) [49:22] Focus on Being Unforgettable People are busy and tired of social media because there's a lot of noise and distraction. And, so as you're doing your messaging or communication, don't focus on getting people's attention anymore. Instead, focus on being unforgettable. Wrap your story and get deeper into what you want to say, giving the experience you want to give, and connecting on a deeper level. Resources Mentioned: www.phillashley.com

This message was preached by Pastor Dustin Bates at Church Eleven32 in Allen, Texas. In the Bible, when God begins to do something, it's normally accompanied by a sound. Just like the birthing of the early church was accompanied by a sound, the sound of current revival will be proceeded with praise and worship! Message: What are some steps to draw near to God? We accept Jesus, but it is important to go to the root of the separation. There is someone or some thing keeping you distant from God, the desire's of Satan. When we are not in God's presence, there is an absence of light and truth. There are 3 challenges: holding fast, considering others and assembling. Hold on to hope in the struggles and trials. In the challenges we are reminded to stir up, strengthen and encourage, a lifting up and exhorting of one another. We are to hold fast our faith, it's Satan's desire is to weaken our trust in God. It's through the tough times we learn to depend on God. The enemy wants to invade your belief and shatter your trust, so you would go running to some other faith. Fixing our attention on God allows us to know where we are in our faith. What happens when we lose faith? We try to do it ourselves, be the master of our own fate. Time will prove we are not able and turn to God for help. We are rewarded in His trust, through His faithfulness. We are to exercise faith by sharing it with others. When we share, it is a consideration, a thought beyond ourselves, a focus on others. A focus is to think of ways to stimulate others to love and good works. From God's perspective, take time to see others as made in His image, His creation and wonderfully made. We struggle with relationships with God because we struggle with others, who are made in His image and likeness. To love God is to love others, otherwise it is to live a lie. In loving others, there is assembly, divine purpose, worship and conducting the divine affairs of the royal kingdom of God. There is change with assembly, such as, warfare and direction. Our coming together moves God to inhabit our praises. See the joy in assembly, use it wisely to see others as God sees them and you will draw near to Him. The body of believers is a gift. Scripture: Hebrews 10:23-25 "Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

The Nativity of Jesus—let's call it the Christmas origin story—is fairly well-known and captures the imagination of children and adults alike at this time of year. The Virgin birth, the journey to Bethlehem, the baby in a feed-trough, the angels and shepherds are all so magnificent and mysterious. But is it a little too unbelievable? Starting this Sunday, we'll put this amazing story under the microscope with the goal of building an apologetic around Christmas that will strengthen the faith of those who already believe and, hopefully, convince some skeptics to take a closer look at Jesus. This Sunday we'll ask, “What is the Christmas story?” and see the solid evidence for the historicity of Jesus, the man, as well as the events of his birth. We'll look at fact and fiction in the nativity accounts in the two most reliable sources, the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The series is based on Rebecca McLaughlin's new book, Is Christmas Unbelievable? and we'll be giving away free copies of the book. The messages will be presented each week as a dialogue between me and our youth director, Jordan Coros. Sermon Notes Series: Is Christmas Unbelievable? Message: What is the Christmas story? What Does The "Angel Number" 1111 Mean? Go to https://beyondhomosapien.com/1111/ to learn more about this topic. Have you been seeing the number 1111 in different ways? Maybe you look at the clock all the time and find that the time is 11:11... Or you go are checking out and realize you're (once again) getting charged $11.11... However it is happening, you are seeing the number 1111 often. What does this "Angel Number" mean and why does it show up often during a spiritual awakening? When this number begins to frequently be seen, a person can feel like they are going crazy. Rest assured: seeing these angel numbers often is a shared phenomena and there are many people around the world who form a relationship with these numbers. Numerology is the practice of associating different meanings to numbers. The practice descends from older traditions like the Jewish Kabbalah. In 2021, this topic is seeing a re-emergence due to the collective spiritual awakening happening on our planet. The main reason these numbers show up in a person's life is to get them to acknowledge a deeper truth: reality does not work quite as we always suspected. Synchronicities and signs like seeing the number 1111 begin to happen during a person's spiritual awakening because the cosmic intelligence is looking to form a relationship. The universal intelligence is speaking to us constantly and the process of awakening brings more awareness to this truth. If you are seeing repeated numbers like 1111 all the time, then it is a sign that this universal mind is working to get your attention and wake you up to a powerful realization. Angel Number 1111 Message What does 1111 mean to you? Here is the magic of working with numerology and diving deeper into the Kabbalah: You begin to form a personal relationship with the world around you through numbers, animals, signs, and words. When you realize that the universe is speaking to you all the time, you can engage and interact more with your life. Mindfulness breathes new possibility into your life and allows you to tune-into the signs of cosmic awakening. Listen to this episode of the Beyond Homo Sapien podcast to learn more about 1111 and what this number means inside of your life: At the end of the day, your personal relationship and meaning for the number 1111 is most important. If you ask 100 different people about the meaning of the number 1111, then you would find 100 different answers. The Kabbalah is about forming a personal and mystical relationship with the divine being that exists everywhere at once in the universe. This divine spark lies inside of you and allows you to create your reality and develop your own definitions around these ideas.

What does worship mean to you? Recently I read this statement about worship. It reminded me that worship is not about us. "Sometimes worship is difficult. We don’t want to praise God or hear God’s voice. Sometimes worship grabs us by the nape of the neck and shakes us up as we come face to face with an ineffable God. Sometimes worship is comforting as we bow down before a God who loves us and gave up everything for us. Sometimes worship is joyous as we praise God who does great things for our world. And sometimes worship is all those things at once. Worship should never be a passive experience, and it is never about us." Postmodern Children’s Ministry – Ministry to children in the 21st Century, Ivy Beckwith, Page 151. Let's consider this phrase again ...Worship should never be a passive experience, and it is never about us. What did Jesus say? When Jesus was being tested in the wilderness by the enemy Jesus reminded us of Who we are to focus our worship on. Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Luke 4:5-8 NKJV Jesus' words are very clear ... 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.' The Message Bible says it this way, Jesus refused, again backing his refusal with Deuteronomy: “Worship the Lord your God and only the Lord your God. Serve him with absolute single-heartedness.” Luke 4:8 The Message What is worship? We can think about worship in many different ways. One of the ways we are probably most familiar with is the 'singing time' in church, which at the moment, due to COVID-19, has greatly dimished in the wake of social distancing rules. I'm so grateful that our church has been able to meet again, in smaller numbers, and have a time of worship, albeit quite differently to what we are used to, but still a beautiful time of worshipping Jesus. With the absence of the familiar corporate worship time during COVID, we have had to purposefully seek out and embrace alternatives to continue fellowshiping and drawing closer to God. So as with many aspects of our faith during this time of COVID, the small group gathering and our individual devotion time with Jesus has taken on a more central role. Worship in the small group For me, my early experiences of home-group / life-group involved a time of worship. While there was some singing during the worship, mostly it was a time of sitting in the presence of God, focusing on the words that declared truth about our Saviour. For example, Lord of All, Hillsong Worship 'Lord I long to see you glorified In everything I do All my heartfelt dreams I put aside To see your Spirit move with power in my life. Jesus, Lord of all eternity Your children rise in faith All the earth displays your glory And each word you speak brings life to all who hear.' I'm grateful for those experiences and what I learned. They were one aspect of the equipping that enabled me to start a life-group in 2019, where we normally include a time of worship, sitting in the presence of God, with our heart and mind focused on Jesus, Lord of All. God prepares the way How perfect is that for today's scenario of COVID-19 when singing has so many restrictions around it. I love how God goes before us, preparing us for what we need, before we know we need it. And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV Despite the social distancing restrictions, we can still listen to some anointed worship songs, lay down our concerns from the day and turn our hearts and minds towards God. Here are a few of worship songs we play: Find me at the feet of Jesus- Christy Nockels What A Beautiful Name - Hillsong Worship Breathe/Rest (Spontaneous Worship) - Cory Ashbury Goodness of God - Bethel Music and Jenn Johnson You are for me - Kari Jobe Worshipping in Spirit and in Truth In these times though, when our experience of 'church' is a little different, I think it is important to pause and consider the wider definition of worship, and how we are living that out in our lives. CompellingTruth.org has an interesting article, How can I worship the Lord in Spirit and Truth, refering to our response to John 4:23-24. But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24 NLT And here is the same scripture in The Passion Translation ... From here on, worshiping the Father will not be a matter of the right place but with the right heart. For God is a Spirit*, and he longs to have sincere worshipers who worship and adore him in the realm of the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24 TPT A side note, or perhaps the key note when it comes to worshipping Jesus, ... the footnote in The Passion Translation says, *Or “God is breath,” or “God is wind.” Jesus refers to “Spirit” more than one hundred times in the four Gospels. The transforming power of the Holy Spirit The power of the Holy Spirit transforms us, over time, into more sincere worshippers of Jesus. His power transforms our lives so we become a reflection of God's love - ie the fruit of the Spirit grows in us ... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV Here is a more contemporary translation from The Message: But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Galatians 5:22-23 The Message Worship is not about us So we have meandered from that original statement by Ivy Beckwith .... Worship should never be a passive experience, and it is never about us." ... to Jesus' words in Luke 4:8 ... 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.' Luke 4:8 NKJV ... to Jesus' words in John 4:24 ... For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24 NLT ... to Paul's words about what happens in us when we allow the Holy Spirit transforms us ... But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV We need to choose to engage in worship So yes, worship is not about us, but we need to choose to engage in worship. We need to fully engage and allow the Holy Spirit to transform us through worship. Fully engaging means we continually choose to put Jesus first in our lives, acknowledging that He is Lord of All. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV Today, let's choose to engage fully in worship, however that looks for us - singing, loving, serving, and through that worship allow the Holy Spirt to transform us to be more and more like Jesus in this place. He also generated over $3 million dollars in sales during a "direct to camera" live webcast.Mike helps people create a personal brand that allows them to generate lots of money. Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, and Opera are just some names that create an emotional reaction, all because they started from nothing and through building their success, built a personal brand that is known worldwide. Now if they get involved in a project their name automatically elevates the status of that project. The truth about professional athletes is a lot of times they are only making money from one stream and this results in them having very little money after their professional carriers are over. The ones that escape this situation are the ones that leverage their personal brand and celebrity to transition into different markets and create multiple flows of income and attention. With attention shifting from TV and radio to podcast and radio audiences are getting more niche, you no longer need a massive following to generate business a small but engaged audience can be just as effective. When you are building an audience there are three main things to focus on, Market, Message, and Medium.Market: Who is your ideal client.Message: What do they need to hear to trust you, like you and feel comfortable doing business with you.Medium: What platform is your audience consuming content on, is it through a podcast, books or social media? Where are they consuming content or entertainment?Creating relationships with people that have a bigger audience than you and finding a way to add value to them and their audience will allow you an opportunity to expand your audience and create a win-win situation for both you and the influencer.A book is one of the best ways to build credibility with and deliver your message to your ideal client in a way that attracts them to you rather than you having to go out and try to find them. If you can find out what a “perfect dream come true” looks like to your client, it will give you the ability to answer their questions that they have before they come up and effectively communicate your product in a way that resonates with your ideal client. The biggest mistake that marketers make is that they try to project themselves all over their audience rather than finding out directly from a client what attracted them to the business in the first place and using that as the foundation of their marketing efforts moving forward. Giving people the sense and feeling that they belong to something greater than themselves is the value created by a personal brand. If you like what you're listening to, we would love it if you could give us a 5-star review! 9-22-19 Message "What are we becoming?" Scripture: Matthew 1:18-20, 16-20
Hello, and welcome to episode 17 of Real Estate Mastery - How To Create A Lifestyle That Doesn’t Require Your Presence In this podcast, I really want to talk about marketing. I know I have touched on it in previous episodes, but today I really want to encourage you to look at the types of marketing you are doing and what message you are sending. Getting Lazy Whether you are an agent, investor, or home buyer, marketing is something we all think about. Personally, I get complacent when business is doing well. I don’t put in the same level of effort as I do when things are slow. This year, things are slower for me than in years past, and I think the biggest reason for this is the increased amount of competition. In the past 6 months, there has been an increase in people buying houses. Many more than there were 36, 24, and even versus 12 months ago. Setting Yourself Apart As an investor and home buyer, I feel like whenever I tell someone what I do, they have a friend, cousin, or brother who is doing the same thing. There are agents, novice investors, and wholesalers all getting in the game - and we are all going after the same customers and clients. I see a lot of ads from agents and homebuyers that do nothing but talk about themselves. The big agencies do the brand building, telling you how many millions of customers they have worked with or how many houses they have sold. Homebuyers will tell you they will buy as-is or how many tears in business. While these things can be benefits, it doesn’t do anything to make you stand out from everyone else who is trying to buy real estate. Your customer doesn’t care about how many houses you’ve sold, they care about finding a solution to their problem. Your customer wants to know… “What’s in it for me?” When we deploy our marketing messages, no matter which media we are using, we let home sellers know exactly how we will benefit them. What will make them want to call us vs. anyone else? We strive to make our marketing compelling so people call us when it is time to sell their home. What Can I Offer? Over the past few weeks, I have really been thinking about the offers I am making. There are so many benefits that could be applicable to many home buyers. No repairs, no closing costs, no commissions, allowing the seller to stay past the closing date to ensure an easy transition, and so on. While these are great benefits, there is nothing compelling that makes a person want to call us. With so many people saying the same thing, my focus now is what I can offer to set myself apart from other home buyers. What can I do to make a truly great offer that will be of great service to my clients and customers? The Three M’s Principle In marketing 101, you learn about the Three M’s Principle. The three M’s stand for: Your Market Your Message Your Media Before using the principle, it’s important to get clear about who your ideal client or customer would be. Who do you want to work with? In the space of buying houses, I will work with anyone who needs to sell, but there is certainly an ideal customer vs. just any home seller. The Market - Who is your market and what are they looking for? Are they reading the newspaper, watching TV, or spending their time online? Message - What message to you want to provide your potential customers? For example, if you are looking for first-time homebuyers, does your message say that? Or is your message confusing to your client or customer? Media - How are you going to reach your ideal customer. There are several options including direct mail, tv ads, radio spots, social media, PPC, and other forms of digital media. Ask yourself, “where is my ideal client going to be?” If they are watching TV, are their specific shows or channels they watch where they might see your ad? Consistency In Your Message In your marketing, especially if you are paying for someone to do it for you, you need to make sure your message is consistent. Does the PPC ad go with the landing page it’s linked to? I’ve seen ads where you click, and the landing page has nothing to do with the ad or the message isn’t immediately clear. You need to know exactly what messages are being delivered to your customers. You want to attract them, not repel them. I encourage you to take a look at your marketing. While some things cost a good deal of money, other things can be done rather inexpensively. Remember to focus on your target market, providing them with the right message, using the right media. If you want more information or want to learn more about what I can do to help you in your business, please reach out! Look forward to talking to you soon! I hope you will join us every week and be sure to let us know how you enjoy the podcast and let others know about it, too. Thanks for listening. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. If you've never been to Niagara Falls, I can tell you from experience, it is an awe inspiring sight. Standing on the bow of the Maiden of the Mist, feeling the spray of that avalanche of water, hearing the thunder of millions of gallons of water rushing past. It is something you never forget. When you feel the mighty power surrounding you, little doubt remains about the existence of a powerful God of creation. Someone did this. It didn't just happen. The same feeling rushes into your head when you stand at the precipice of a volcano and peer down the side of throat, feel the heat of the lava boiling below, and know the immense geothermal energy trapped within that opening, ready to spew its lava out across the countryside. Or stand in the center of what used to be a city ravaged by a category five hurricane and see what the wind and water have done to that place. Not much stands that isn't damaged. In fact, not much stands. We recognize immediately the power God can unleash on the world. His heart and awesome power most often restrained, but ever present in nature. We think about his power and the stories of his miracles, the calming of the storm, the feeding of the thousands, the healing of the sick, the raising of the dead. We think, “I want to be part of that. I want to be part of those majestic events. I want to experience what those first disciples experienced by witnessing first hand some of those miracles. Then my faith will really take off. Then I can really be a great witness for God since I can tell of his great miracles and be an instrument in those actions. There is a story in the Old Testament, though, that reminds us of what our walk with God will be like most of the time and what he expects from us most of the time. It comes from yesterday's lectionary reading from 2 Kings 5: Naaman's master considered him an extraordinary man. He was the military commander of Aram's army, and he had won many important battles for Aram by the power of the Eternal. Naturally he was greatly esteemed by his king. Naaman was a fierce warrior, but he also had a skin disease. Now one time, the Arameans went out in raiding parties and took a little girl from Israel as their prisoner. The little girl became a servant to Naaman's wife. Girl (to Naaman's wife): If only my master could be near the prophet in Samaria, the prophet there could heal my master's disease. Naaman became hopeful, and he went and told his king what the little girl from Israel said. King of Aram: I am going to write a letter to Israel's king, and I want you to take it to him immediately. Naaman left with the king's letter in his hand, plus 750 pounds of silver, 150 pounds of gold, and 10 sets of fine clothing. Naaman handed the letter to Israel's king, and the king read it. King of Aram's Message: The man carrying this letter is my servant, Naaman. He has a skin disease, and I request that you heal him. King of Israel (ripping his clothing): Who does he think I am—God? Why does Aram's king think I have the power to kill and make alive again? What in the world makes him think that I can heal you of your disease? It is obvious that Aram's king is trying to create trouble between us. Elisha, the man of God, received word that Israel's king had ripped his clothing, so he sent a message to Israel's king. Elisha's Message: What has caused you to rip your clothing? Tell the man who has come to you for healing to come to me. Then he will be assured that a prophet lives in Israel. The king told Naaman to go find Elisha, so Naaman showed up at Elisha's door with his horses and chariots. Elisha did not show his face to Naaman, but instead sent instructions: “Wash yourself in the Jordan River seven times. The waters will heal you, and your skin will be back to normal. You will be cleansed.” Naaman boiled with anger as he left Elisha. He had come to his house expecting something much different. Naaman: What is this! I came here thinking that Elisha would come outside and call upon the name of the Eternal One his God, and that Elisha's hand would pass over my sores and heal my skin disease, not the waters of the Jordan River . The Abanah and Pharpar Rivers in Damascus are greater rivers than all the rivers of Israel combined, so why couldn't I just go bathe in those and be healed? Naaman then stormed away, boiling with anger. Later his servants approached and spoke to him with respect. Naaman's Servants: Father, if the prophet had told you to do some important thing, wouldn't you have done what he asked? Why is it difficult for you to follow his instructions when he tells you, “Bathe yourself in the Jordan River, and be cleansed”? So Naaman swallowed his pride, walked down to the Jordan River, and washed himself seven times, just as the man of God had instructed him to do. There, the miracle occurred. Naaman's disease was healed: his skin was as new as an infant's, and he was clean from the disease. Naaman and all his entourage went back to the man of God. Naaman: I am convinced that there is no God who exists in the entire world like the True God in Israel. Please accept this gift from me, your humble servant. Elisha: As certain as the life of the Eternal whom I worship, I refuse to take any gifts. Naaman tried again to give Elisha a gift, but Elisha would not take it. Naaman: OK. If you won't take my gift, at least allow me to take two mule-loads of earth. I, your servant, will no longer give burnt offerings or sacrifices to other gods. The Eternal One is my only God now. May the Eternal One forgive me when I walk into the house of Rimmon, the storm god of Aram, to worship there beside my master. As his first officer, I must be by his side wherever he goes, even when he worships. May He forgive me for bowing down in that place. In this story, Naaman learned, as we heard in Elijah's story a few weeks ago, that God doesn't necessarily care about the grandiose, the spectacular, the awe-inspiring. He wants us to understand that he is God always. In every circumstance and every situation. Naaman needed help. In his day, there was no cure for leprosy and he had it. Soon he would be banished from civilization because of the disease. Aram wanted Naaman around because of his military prowess. Naaman wanted to be around. He certainly didn't want to know the isolation and stigma leprosy carried in those times. But soon he would not be able to hide the sores, the symptoms, and he would be among those banished from others, forced to hide himself and cry out “unclean” when anyone neared him. But a servant girl told him about a miracle making prophet in Israel, Elisha. It was worth a chance. There was nothing to lose. Naaman went. He expected something special. He expected this man of God to come out and perform some kind of special ritual, some incantation, some soothing salve to put on his body, some potion he would drink every day. Instead, Elisha didn't even come to the door. He sent his servant out to tell him to go wash in the filthy Jordan River seven times. Naaman was livid. He was an important man. How dare the prophet not even speak to him. Who did Elisha think he was? After all, he just came from the king. And his king sent him. Israel's king was a vassal to Aram and Naaman was Aram's right hand man. This prophet didn't even take the time to come out of his shabby little shack and greet him. Now he wanted him to go wash in the Jordan River? Hrmph! Not on your life! I grew up in Tennessee. In the Smoky mountains, the headwaters of some of the creeks rivers that flow into the Cumberland, Tennessee, Ohio, and others that feed into the Mississippi River are crystal clear. Many of them I still wouldn't have a problem dipping my hand into those headwaters and drinking their clean, clear water. But drink from the Mississippi River? Not on your life. The Mississippi? Never. They have become so polluted over the years through industrial waste and outgrowth of people dumping whatever they please into the river, you have no idea what might happen if you drank that unfiltered water. The Jordan River was like that even in Naaman's day. Dirty brown water where everyone did their laundry, dumped their waste, and every other imaginable disgusting thing. And Elisha wanted him to wash in this filthy river not just once, but seven times. He would be sicker than he was. He just knew it! Why should he stoop so low as to infect himself in this countries filth? There were cleaner rivers in Samaria, he would just go back there and wash himself. After all, water was water, right? It wasn't about the water at all, though. It was about obedience. Just like it is with us. Why would God entrust us with massive, spectacular things, if he can't trust us with minor, simple things? I used to counsel people that came to work for me in similar terms. Everyone is on a leash. If I'm responsible for the outcome of events, I want to know what people that work for me are doing. I want to shape what happens so I know the outcome will be what I want the outcome to be. So when someone first comes into the team, I don't know how they work, what they think, how they interpret my instructions. So they are on a short leash. I want frequent reports. The tasks are simple. The projects are inconsequential to the total effort if they fail. But the more I get to know the person, their work, their trustworthiness, the longer leash. I don't need to check as often or as thoroughly. The leash is still there if I'm responsible for the outcome. I never let go of the leash, but instead of a two foot leash, it may become a six foot or ten foot or thirty foot leash. The more I can trust that someone who works for me understands how to interpret my desired outcomes and how to get there, the less I need to overwatch what they do. I think it is the same with God. The more he can trust us with the little things in life, the more he can trust us with the big things in life. The more we trust him, the more he trusts us. Why would he take us to the moon if we've never climbed a ladder? As you look at the lives of biblical characters, I think you'll see that pattern of growth in all of them. God gave them small things to do before they could be trusted with greater things. He knew their heart, but tested them first so they knew their own heart, too. Do you want to see great, spectacular, monumental things happen around you? Then take care of the little things around you. Pay attention to the everyday, mundane activities that need to be handled diligently. Watch for opportunities to do the things no one will ever see or know about and take care of those with no fanfare. When God can trust you with the little things in life, he will begin to trust you with the bigger things in life. Remember the story of the three servants and the talents. Take care of the small things and God will reward you richly. You can find me at richardagee.com. I also invite you to join us at San Antonio First Church of the Nazarene on West Avenue in San Antonio to hear more Bible based teaching. You can find out more about my church at SAF.church. 12-31-2017 Weekend Message. Guest Speaker: Doug Husen. Message: What if Jesus Had Never Been Born?
Message: What do you say? Speaker: Drew Doland Scripture: John 8:1-11 Series: John date: 2/5/17 Our Youth Pastor Drew Doland spoke about the woman caught in the act of Adultery. Here he discusses how the story is more about the motives of the Pharisees than the sin of the woman.
A successful business includes these three elements: message, messenger, and medium. Message: What's being said. Messenger: Who's saying it. Medium: How it's being said. While most people hyper-focus on the message, rack their brains, bang their heads and then give up because their message wasn't unique enough, I want to approach this from a different angle. The message has already been said. Everything that will be said has already been said. So, stop worrying so much about that and instead focus on your role as the messenger. The person who needs to deliver it. There is someone out there in the interwebs, or even in real life, who needs to hear that exact message from YOU in order for it to sink in, to make sense, or to cause them to act. The messenger is something that gets overlooked, but it's the most important piece. Has this ever happened to you...someone said something to you 6 different times, but when someone else said it the first time, it clicked. Of course it has. And you are the CLICK for someone else. Go be a messenger. Get access to the FREE Permission to Hustle mini-course here where you'll discover how to create the right message and be the messenger unapologetically!
Message: What is the Family For?
Title of Message: What's Most Important (Psalm 103:2) (NKJV) Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: (John 20:29) Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (Matthew 1:18) This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:19) Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. (Matthew 1:20) But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:21) She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:25) But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. Leaving a Legacy that Honors God: 1. Live with Guidelines. a. The greatest guide you'll every have is God. (Psalm 25:5) …guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. (Psalm 25:9) He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. (Psalm 48:14) For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. b. The greatest guideline you'll ever have is the Bible. (Psalm 119:105) Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 2. Lead with Grace. (Romans 3:25-26) (NLT) For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he declares sinners to be right in his sight when they believe in Jesus. 3. Love to Give. (1 John 3:16) We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.
Sometimes it seems like the only way to keep up with all the demands on our lives is to run at maximum capacity,”and then some. But there is another way…one where we have room to breathe and space to respond to what life brings our way. Come explore what it means to live with Margin. Title of Message: What is Margin? Margin: The amount available beyond what is necessary. Margin: The difference between what you have and what you need. (Luke 10:38-40) As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. (Luke 10:40) She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" (Matthew 7:13) …For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. (Matthew 7:14) But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Romans 12:2) Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Luke 10:41) "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." When Margin Decreases: 1. Stress Increases 2. Relational Intimacy Decreases Where Margin Begins: (Matthew 11:28-29) Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Psalm 46:10) Be still, and know that I am God. (Isaiah 58:11) The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. [SALVATION PRAYER] (Luke 10:38-40) As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. (Luke 22:19) And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:20) In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. [COMMUNION]
