Its absurdist, and weird, and fast paced, and just wonderful. It looks like they are taking a break to upgrade the system a bit and fix some bugs, but I look forward to its return. Stare Into the Sun! https://blaseball.fandom.com/wiki/Hellmouth_SunbeamsI also discuss the Play By Mail games I’m planning. I’ve worked out a few things about the style of game I want to run, now I just have to prep the actual games. One idea is a Dracula style horror game where the players communicate as experts by correspondence, investigating a strange series of phenomenon. The other game I’d like to run is a Mindjammer adventure set in a heavily inhabited star system, in which players each take a ship and track down leads. If either of these interest you shoot me an email and I’ll start a list.Mindjammer https://mindjammerpress.com/mindjammer/Dracula http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/345Door Games https://www.gamesrv.ca/==========Saying No - 07:40Failing forward is a very useful mechanic, just so long as you don’t use it to cover any sins. ==========#iHunt Review - 14:55I give an almost entirely positive review of the #iHunt RPG from Olivia Hill. I am joined by Uma Rudd Chia today. Uma is a creative director, best selling author, global keynote speaker, and founder of the Female Idea. Originally from Malaysia, Uma lived worked internationally, and is now based in Singapore. We had the chance of working together years ago and being desk neighbours while working at the advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi in Singapore. We kept in touch during the pandemic lockdown, and asked her if she'd be up for being on the show. I also asked her to pick a topic she’d be interested in chatting about, and she chose space. We exchanged a few messages, and I in turn picked Mindjammer as a game to talk about. Mindjammer is an award winning science-fiction / space opera tabletop roleplaying game by designer and author Sarah Newton. For the more serious gamers who might be listening, just so you know what to expect, we didn't get to play the in this particular conversation, so while I talk about the game system and the setting for a bit, we also go into other tangents pretty quickly. It's my first time adding a video intro and only my second episode with the full episode, any thoughts or comments will be welcome, thank you!
Unlucky 13, If I had planned it out better this would have been the Halloween episode. Ah well, such is life.I'm going to stop apologizing for the audio quality since those of you on the discord made it incredibly obvious that I'm probably making mountains out of mole hills. Also I listened to some radio professionals and realized they make the exact same sounds. In this episode I'm going to continue to pick apart the mechanical underpinnings of the Fudge RPG, specifically the way traits work in the game, and specifically how it gives rise to "The Bronze Rule" AKA the Supposed Fate Fractal. Its also the Fudge Fractal, the Icons Fractal, The Blood in Space Fractal, Etc.Trying out Ko-fi to replace Patreon, so if you'd like to support the show please buy me a Ko-FiMusic is Blind Love Dub by Jeris (c) copyright 2017 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license. http://dig.ccmixter.org/files/VJ_Memes/55416 Ft: Kara Square (mindmapthat) Links Fate Fractal Powered By Fate Podcast Icons Thanks to Bynw and DarkSir23 for setting up the Eris bot on the DIscord Music at the Table Deadlands game music Isaac Arthur Science and Futurism (Podcast) Now Playing I think I called it Now Showing on the show for some reason, sorry. C'est quoi au juste le transhumanisme dont quelques jeux de rôles comme Transhuman Space, Mindjammer ou Eclipse Phase se réclament ? Happy Halloween, its like Summerween in the Fall!In this episode I explore developing Fudge horror games by pilfering other, more established, horror games for clever mechanics. To the best of my knowledge there isn't a solid long-running Fudge Horror game out there, so I'm looking at ideas that can be borrowed from the Fate Horror Toolkit, the Pacesetter RPG, and Call of Cthulhu. I also plug the upcoming "Chronicles of Future Earth" due to it having a clever dice mechanic we can snag into Fudge. Mindjammer has been a favourite of mine since before it came out in its current edition. I read the novel before I knew the game and loved it and now it is my go-to Science Fiction game. And that is because Sarah Newton, as well as being a good friend, is for me the most talented writer and designer out there. Yes… in the world. When Sarah carried out her rather successful Kickstarter campaign, one of the stretch goals was a conversion of the Mindjammer game into the Traveller system. Since I am not an expert on Traveller, I was very curious to know how a game with a system as open as FATE could be converted to a system that is a lot more rules-heavy and relatively restrictive as Traveller. And now you can find out too. Hope you enjoy the show!
Download This month, Mike and Roger talk with John Dallman and Doctor Bob, and look at the new transhumanist games Mindjammer and Nova Praxis.
This week the Critical Twits discuss the Modiphius convention, Dragonmeet! We go gaga for Guild Ball, dig Devil's Run, expound upon X-Corp, admire the Amberden Affair, and ruminate on our next roleplay game (marvellous Mindjammer or lovely Laundry Files). Also, watch out for asthmatic dragons...
A couple of weeks ago I brought you an interview with Sarah in which we talked about the game and the Kickstarter campaign. However we left behind some important aspects of the game, like the illustration and the physical products, as well as the schedule for the production line and the Traveller version of Mindjammer that has already been backed. So here we are again, having another chat with the rather talented Sarah Newton and her no-less-excellent Kickstarter campaign for the line of Mindjammer products.
In this episode, Matt talks with Sarah Newton of Mindjammer Press about the Mindjammer RPG. Mindjammer is a game focused on transhuman science-fiction roleplaying in the universe of the far future, run on the Fate Core rules. There are a lot of stretch goals and backer levels. By Paco Garcia Jaen Those of you who know me at all, or listen to the podcast, know that I am in love with Mindjammer and its universe. I liked it when I read the novel, I liked it even more when I read the book and the adventure Hearts and Minds consolidated what I already knew with a superb setting packed with action. Of course the whole concept is by Sarah Newton and I still believe she’s probably one of the most promising RPG writers out there. As far as I’m concerned, she’s a genius. Now she’s on Kickstarter for the first time to create a new adventure for Mindjammer and, aptly put, kickstart a whole new line of products for the game that will allow her to create material much more quickly and frequently than planned. I got together with her for a while to talk about the original Mindjammer, the journey from first publish till now and what her plans are for the game, adventures and supplements. Hope you enjoy the show!

I have been looking forward to seeing Mindjammer for a long time. The Space Opera game that will probably set a new precedent for future sci-fi games is finally almost here and I am seriously looking forward to seeing what Sarah Newton is going to bless our gaming shelves with. I came accross Mindjammer years ago when Sarah Newton published her first novel. I read it in a lot less time than I was expecting and it already gave me all I needed. Great characters, great technology, believable settings in an incredible way… the formula was there. I never looked into the first edition of the game, Mindjammer, the only reason that the second one was coming and, knowing Sarah, it was bound to be a lot better than the first. Now that the game is in pre-order, I had to interview the author and find out even more about this fantastic setting. But before we talked about Mindjammer, we also talked about Monsters & Magic, a new take on the Old School type of games that truly and genuinely take the old rules and make something fantastic and new with them. As you can imagine, she didn’t disappoint!
The Christmas episode is here and I will keep things brief because you have to tidy up and eat those meals of deliciousness with your family and/or friends. In this episode Jenn, Vickey and I take a quick look at what 2012 has been and what it has brought to us from the gaming point of view. We also discuss what we’re looking forward to in 2013 and what plans we have for our gaming lives. And there are a lot of exciting plans, I have to say! Recently, at Dragonmeet, the I felt the panel on the RPG industry in the UK struggled a bit to come up with ways, ideas and plans to promote their games. Their replies weren’t as definite and to-the-point as I would have liked, so the three of us have put on our thinking caps and come up with 5 ways to promote gaming and games in an alternative way that will cost little money. OK, some of them do cost money, but we think they’re pretty good ideas. I’d be more interested in finding out what you think, though… Meanwhile, remember we have a giveaway. Just leave us feedback in iTunes (good or bad) and you could get your hands on a copy of Mindjammer, signed by the author, Sarah Newton, or a copy of Journeys to the West, a Pathfinder adventure by Christina Styles. And we have three copies of the adventure to give away!
We have passed the 70 mark. And 71 is a number I don’t like. It looks untidy, so hurry up and listen to the podcast so we can get on with episode 72. It will come as no surprise to anyone that Kickstarter is still dominating the cyber-waves and with the launch of Kickstarter in the UK, things can only get… err… more talked about. And I know some of you think that is not a good idea, so we won’t talk about Kickstarter for a while after this episode. If we can help it. In this episode, Dr Mike Reddy and I have a special guest. Normally we have an interview separately from the body of the podcast, but since Michael Fox lives very near us and he was around, we thought it’d be nicer to have him as a guest in the show instead of the more formal interview. Before we jump onto Michael’s Kickstarter project, though, we talk Dragonmeet. Yes, it is an RPG convention and this episode is about boardgames, I know. However, the significance of this show is pretty huge in the UK and some of the biggest figures in gaming come to deliver seminars. Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson UK are regulars at the show and their seminar about the origins of Fighting Fantasy is extremely popular. And Michael also has a Kickstarter project. Keep Running is his first solo adventure as a game designer. In this quick and simple card game, you have to race for your life. A bear is coming to get you and you have to run faster than your friends, otherwise he’ll eat you! But don’t take this from me… Listen to the show and see what you make of it! We talk more things, though, and the links to all of them are below: DriveThru Cards The Game Crafter Kingdom Death Kickstarter project The Noun Project The Guardian’s Go First article Eric Harshbarger Go First Dice website Boardgame Geek Go First Dice page And with that, a reminder that we have a give-away going on this month. If you’d like to enter the draw to get a Mindjammer novel, one of three Journeys to the West adventures for Pathfinder, or a copy of Wicked North Games’ Azamar, you just have to leave us feedback in iTunes. On the 31st of December, we’ll draw a few names and those people will receive one of the items listed above. And let me assure you they are worth having! As allways, feedback is more than welcome and we’d love to hear from you in Podcast@gmsmagazine.com.
Episode 70 has arrived, slowly but surely, just like Christmas approaches. And since that means you’ll want to give your loved ones as much as you can. Obviously your not-so-loved ones won’t get a thing. Mine don’t. So to make your life a lot easier, Jenn, Vickey and myself have put together a list of games we think you should get. Or that someone should get for you. But before that we talk Kobold Quarterly and the sad news that it’s gone out of print. Needless to say, we all think it’s a terrible loss. Although we all understand the reasons behind the closure, we will miss it immensely. We also have an interview with the always amazing Daniel Solis. Daniel is a Creative Director at Oklahoma based creative agency Third Degree during the day, and during the rest of the time is a husband and game designer. And he’s a game designer with an incredible talent for ideas development and new ways to approach game design. Happy Birthday Robot, Do: Pilgrims of the Flying Temple, Utara and many others are an incredible menu of truly excellent material to put his talent beyond any doubt. When you hear the interview you’ll see why I am so complimentary. It’s because I’m right. So. The list. These are the games we talk about: The One Ring Marvel Heroic RPG and Civil War Premium Event book Dr Who: Adventures in Time and Space Pathfinder Begginer’s box Black Night’s Agents Warhammer Fantasy RPG Fiasco Durance Mistborn Adventure Game Storyforge Rippers Hellfrost T’unseal Rise of the Runelords Anything GURPS And, just in case you want to save yourself a few pennies, we have a really cool giveaway. We’re giving away: Mindjammer novel signed by the author, Sarah J. Newton Amazar RPG Three copies of Journeys to the West by Cristina Styles And the only thing you have to do to enter the competition is to leave some feedback in iTunes. Simple as that. Look forward to hearing from you and hope you enjoy the show!
