Unreliable Witness? As questions rise about the credibility of the Crown's star expert witness, Dr Dewi Evans, in this episode co-hosts John Sweeney and Edward Abel Smith go back in time to a 34-year-old scandal when a boy suffering a treatable disease died wholly unnecessarily in his hospital. The evidence pointed to GPs being negligent and forging medical notes. Dr Evans stands accused of taking part in a cover-up. If so, Dr Evans may be a key player in not one terrible miscarriage of justice, but two. This is a wholly independent produced podcast. Decades later, their story remains a chilling reminder of justice gone awry. Who really planted the bombs, and why has the truth remained elusive for so long? Join us as we delve into the events of that fateful night, the miscarriage of justice, and the ongoing investigation into one of England's darkest chapters. This is Episond 6: The framing of Lucy Letby, the last episode in our series. In this episode hosts John Sweeney and Edward Abel Smith tell the story of how neonatal consultant Dr B accidentally killed a baby at the Countess of Chester Hospital and how the jury never knew. Former NHS doctor Phil Hammond then sets out why he believes that a horrible hospital is a far better explanation for the tragic loss of babies than a serial killer nurse. This podcast was independently funded and although nobody was paid to create or participate in the podcast, there are legal and other costs that we are crowdfunding to cover - if you want to support that please visit our Crowdfunder page. Although this is the final episode in the series - we will be doing a bonus rounding up the case so far, also, if there are major updates we will consider recording an update. Also, if you have information we are here to listen. There are many people connected to the Countess of Chester hospital with information about the events that led to Lucy Letby being prosecuted, if you are or you know of anyone who has not spoken out please email us in complete confidence - lucyletbywasthereeveracrime@gmail.com

This month marks 50 years since 21 people were killed by the IRA in the Birmingham pub bombings. Six men, ‘The Birmingham Six', were imprisoned for 16 years for murderous bomb attacks which they did not commit. In 2011, Stephen Sackur spoke to one of those men, Paddy Hill. He had been a free man for 20 years, but had he managed to rebuild his life?
Patience Frazier, who lived in Winnemucca — a town of around 7,000 people 70 miles south of Oregon, or 500 miles north of Las Vegas — spent two years in prison after having a miscarriage in 2018.
John-Henry Westen speaks with investigative journalist Jenny Hay about the tragic case of pro-lifer Mark Reno, who was wrongfully accused by the FBI of arson and other federal crimes against a Knoxville Planned Parenthood facility, ultimately leading to his death in jail.Hay outlines how Reno was suspected of setting fire to the Planned Parenthood facility despite significant evidence to the contrary, culminating in an investigation that had agents surveilling and questioning him at local pro-life events.Reno was subsequently jailed, and despite being in good health prior to detention, died in custody from a supposedly untreated ulcer.Download the all-new LSNTV App now, available on iPhone and Android!LSNTV Apple Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lsntv/id6469105564 LSNTV Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lifesitenews.app ****PROTECT Your Wealth with gold, silver, and precious metals: https://stjosephpartners.com/lifesitenews+++SHOP ALL YOUR FUN AND FAVORITE LIFESITE MERCH! https://shop.lifesitenews.com/ +++Connect with John-Henry Westen and all of LifeSiteNews on social media:LifeSite: https://linktr.ee/lifesitenews John-Henry Westen: https://linktr.ee/jhwesten Hosted on Acast. In episode 2 - After a spike in deaths in the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2015, hospital bosses called in a team of independent expert doctors to find the root cause. Their report was damning, criticising environment, staffing and the consultants doing two scheduled ward rounds a week - the standard is two a day. The consultants pointed to a killer nurse on the loose. But did they have skin in the game? This podcast is a self funded independent production. Lucy Letby is the most prolific serial killer of our time. She is convicted of murdering seven babies and trying to harm many others. But there are serious questions about not only whether she is a killer at all, but whether there was ever a crime. In episode one, John Sweeney and Edward Abel Smith discover that all is not as it seems at the Countess of Chester Hospital, the place Letby is accused of carrying out her killing spree. Specifically, there were problems with the plumbing, meaning the neonatal unit where the babies died, was on a regular basis, literally full of shit.

An investigator says it was obvious Gail Maney didn't murder Auckland man Deane Fuller-Sandys in 1989. Maney and Steven Stone's murder convictions have been quashed, and a re-trial's been ordered for Stone. Colin Maney and Mark Henriksen have also had their accessory to murder convictions quashed. The Crown's accepting the police failed to disclose important information, which caused a miscarriage of justice. Private Investigator Tim McKinnel told Heather du Plessis-Allan that work is underway towards gaining compensation. He says it became clear the Crown case was an absurdity, and those who looked at the case knew fairly quickly there'd been a miscarriage. There was a miscarriage of justice in the trials that saw Gail Maney and Stephen Stone convicted of murder, the Crown has admitted. The case - which was investigated in the hit RNZ/Stuff podcast Gone Fishing - is due to be considered by the appeal court in Wellington next month. But in a startling development, lawyers for Maney and Stone last week received a memo from the Crown conceding that there were grave problems with the evidence heard in two trials, in 1999 and 2000, which have led to a miscarriage of justice. Adam Dudding speaks to Susana Lei'ataua.

The Post Office Horizon IT Scandal represents the biggest single series of wrongful convictions in British legal history. Brought to life in the hit ITV series "Mr Bates vs. The Post Office", the story hit the headlines in early 2024 and at the time of publication is the subject of a major public inquiry.Faulty equipment and computer software made it look as though money was missing from post office branch accounts and the sub-postmasters' contracts held them personally liable. More than 900 were prosecuted, many went to prison and many others were financially ruined. In this very special episode, I am privileged to be joined by one of the subpostmasters affected, Jess Kaur, whose story was told in the ITV drama. We are also joined by TV actress Krupa Pattani who played Jess on screen as 'Sam Kaur'.If you've watched the series, you'll not be able to forget the scene when Sam's husband walks in to find her bleeding with a knife in her hand. We'll talk about that, how Jess talked to her children about what she went through and how Krupa prepared for such an important scene. It's been a harrowing road for Jess and she has been very brave to come on and tell her story. I am deeply grateful. The TV series has prompted a renewed sense of urgency for action, but most victims of the scandal remain without an apology and without compensation for what they have experienced. I hope that interviews like this will help to raise awareness of the personal toll that the scandal took on those affected, and will support those in power to ensure that justice is done.--Mr Bates vs. The Post Office: https://www.itv.com/watch/mr-bates-vs-the-post-office/10a0469/10a0469a0001Mr Bates vs. The Post Office on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Bates_vs_The_Post_OfficeJess Kaur on Good Morning Britain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mBvCZOD4LM --The Unlock Moment podcast is brought to you by Dr Gary Crotaz, PhD. In 1989 two horrific crimes took place in New York City. The first was the rape and almost death of the woman who would be come to know as the Central Park jogger. The second was the arrest, interrogations, and ultimate prison sentencing of five Black and Latino teenagers, for that crime. A crime they would later be exonerated for, in 2002. It was during her senior year of college in 2003, while interning for a law firm, that Sarah Burns began the arduous process of unearthing the entire story, initially for her college thesis, to understand why and how these five teenagers could have been so falsely convicted. Almost a decade later, Sarah, simultaneously, along with her husband David McMahon, not only published the book, The Central Park Five; A Chronicle of a City Wilding, but along with her father, documentarian, Ken Burns, produced, wrote, and directed a film by the same name. The Central Park Five documentary received numerous awards in 2012/2013 and is still available to watch via streaming.

What do you think you know about Amanda Knox? Do you think she was a sex-crazed party girl who got away with the murder of Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007? That's what I thought before I dug into the research for this episode. I do not think that anymore. The case against her is the sloppiest murder trial I've ever looked into. Outlandish investigative bias, ridiculous crime lab mistakes, and a court system where jurors are allowed to be influenced by the media during the trial. And in this case, the media was mostly tabloids. And the tabloids - fed nonsense by the prosecutor in Knox's case - continually printed completely fabricated and slanderous theories about Amanda. The court of public opinion convicted her of Meredith's murder and forever tarnished her reputation... but did she have ANYTHING to do with her roommate's death? Was she even sex-crazed? Did the media and the Italian legal system get ANYTHING right about her in her first trial? We have a wild one this week. Enjoy! Wet Hot Bad Magic Summer Camps coming up quick! Laura interviews Diana Parkes, Joanna's mother and Hetti Nanton, Joanna's best friend and chair of the national domestic violence charity, Refuge. Joanna Simpson was brutally killed on October 31, 2010, by her ex-husband Robert Brown a British Airways pilot, one week before their divorce would be finalized at the High Court. Brown dropped the two children home. He took a claw hammer with him and bludgeoned Jo to death, hitting her at least 14 times. At Brown's trial, the court heard how he bundled the children into his car and wrapped Jo's body in plastic sheeting he had brought with him along with a white overall suit. He placed her in the boot before driving to Windsor Park where he had already dug a grave and put down a makeshift coffin. After nearly 15 hours of deliberation, the jury cleared Brown of murder. He was convicted for manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility and sentenced to 26 years, the maximum sentence allowed. He will be released after serving just 13 years in 2023. Listen as we discuss the case, the events leading up to Jo being brutally killed, the details about how Jo was killed and what happened afterwards in terms of Brown's post offence behaviour and the trial. We discuss the prosecution's case and how the family were treated both inside and outside court. Laura also shares critical insight about the case and Brown's mindset, which she has seen repeatedly amongst men who kill their former or current partners. This insight is essential if we are to prevent murders in slow motion like Jo's and effectively prosecute men like Brown. Trigger warning: This case is upsetting, and it may be triggering. Listener discretion is advised.
