Goooooood morning! We're back and we're talking about yet another fantastic Netflix MCU series that will likely get the axe: The Punisher. We've made mention of our infatuation with the Marvel character in previous but with season 2 having been released last month, we figure now was the time to dedicate an episode about Marvel's most well-known t-shirt logo. Sidenote: We recorded this around the time of the polar vortex so apologies if our references are a little dated.Shout-out to Jamila Rowser who signed a copy of her book Wobbledy 3000!, dedicated to the 8AM Shift!...[3:40]Joe's take on the recent Boston Globe podcast series Gladiator, which explores the life of Aaron Hernandez...[5:18]The time Joe saw a Punisher t-shirt...and quickly changed his mind...[10:20]What did we find on Wikipedia about The Punisher?...[11:50]The Batman logo...[14:50]Why isn't The Punisher going to be on the big screen as part of the MCU? Gooooooood morning!Mike returns to the 8AM Shift to discuss the recent cancellation of Daredevil on Netflix, which is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series to get the axe. Mike and Jordan have both watched season 3 and can attest to the quality, which begs the question, why did they cancel a series that was getting better? The 8AM Shift gathers around a table in a cold room to examine this recent turn of events.VOTE FOGGY NELSON FOR MANHATTAN DA (yes it's a fake ad)…[00:04]Yeah, so they're cancelling MCU shows on Netflix :-(...[5:52]The Alan Sepinwall tweet-storm...[7:12]Nicholas Cage rage...[14:42]The biggest Marvel miss? With the purging of Marvel Shows from Netflix and all the announcements regarding cancellations first Iron Fist, then Luke Cage, now Daredevil. I originally thought this was to bolster up the line up for the new Disney + streaming service but I read a couple of articles that made so much sense. Marvel will stop licensing content Movies & TV Shows to NETFLIX by late 2019. Now for the movies what I have been saying makes complete sense they will eventually transfer over to Disney’s new streaming service but the original programing like Daredevil and the crew won’t necessarily be a direct transfer. NETFLIX actually produced these shows and the question is why would you pay to make a show that in essence advertises and competitors service. Remember Disney has a controlling share of HULU and owns ABC Networks so shows like Cloak and Dagger and Runaways are safe. The NETFLIX produced shows are a little bit trickier. Disney could take over production but they are already shelling out a great deal of money producing original content with the big guns from the movies. Could they eventually bring these shows back, sure they can but I have the feeling they will bring NETFLIX MCU characters back after they see some success with Disney +. The Avengers 4 Trailer has been a hot issue over the past few weeks and everyone is drooling for it. But let’s take this into account Aquaman which is getting awesome reviews is getting ready to drop, so what’s the best way to take a crap on the competition? Release the trailer everyone is waiting for right before it drops in the theater. I am sorry that’s basic marketing and a way to give the competition problems. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
It’s a somber week here at Marvel News Desk, as we contemplate the potential end of the Netflix MCU as we know it. First, Iron Fist bit the dust, and now Luke Cage is canceled as well. The Geekery Awakens In this episode: This week was all about the Geekery Catch-Up. Since Beej went out of the country a few weeks ago, we had to record two episodes the week before, and he had internet issues the week after. So there was a good amount of time there for geekery to accumulate. We wanted to do one, big episode about it because not only was there so much of it, but we had so much to say about it. From books and audiobooks and video games and movies and Halloween cooking shows and gacha games, Nintendo games...we have a ton to talk about. We even go on some tangents (MoviePass! *shakes fist angrily in the air*, the future of the Netflix MCU: thoughts?) All in all, it's a great episode full of cool stuff. Oh, and by the way, we need questions for our semi-annual Q&A episode, so if you have a question of any sort, tweet at us, email us, throw it toward us on Slack, Discord, or Reddit...wherever. We wanna answer what you want to ask! Hello Marvel Universe! The press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy yielded some really strange promotions, from underwear to insurance to a pop up cafe where the food is strange and the English translations are even stranger. But that's not all the news - there are rumors about new characters for the next season of Luke Cage, as well as speculations on how the writer's strike could impact both the Netflix MCU and Inhumans. On Agents of SHIELD, we continue with the "Framework" arc, continuing what is undoubtedly the strongest season so far. If you like what you hear, please give us a rating on iTunes, Stitcher, Podbean, or whatever your podcatcher of choice may be. It helps us to reach new audiences and we'd really appreciate it!
