Danny resides in Pennsylvania with his wife Christie, and now grown sons, Hunter and Kyle, in the heart of farm country. Danny is a completely self-taught artist who enjoys working with a wide variety of mediums but his favorite is Pumpkin carving. After watching a Food Network "Challenge" episode, called Outrageous Pumpkins, and then Halloween Wars he decided to try his hand at pumpkin carving. Little did he know it would spark a flame that would turn into a passion. He set a goal of becoming a pumpkin carving contestant on Food Network and achieved that goal in season 4 of the hit show Halloween Wars. Danny returned to Food Network Halloween Wars: Hayride of Horror in 2017 where him and his teammates were crowned Champions! His journey has now come full circle, back to where it all started, and he was on - Food Network Outrageous Pumpkins 2020 edition. He was overwhelmed when he won the championship on the show that started him down this crazy path. And winning the series with Ray Villafane (Winner of the first 2 seasons of Outrageous Pumpkins) was an added bonus. When he's not carving pumpkins (or dreaming about them), he spends his time chainsaw carving tree stumps into amazing works of art. When the dropping temperatures drive most people inside he also carves ice with the chainsaw and for some reason really enjoys the cold snow flying off the saw and the heat of the fire polishing them to glass-like finish. With exposure through TV and social media, he's been fortunate enough to be invited to compete and work alongside some of the top ice and sand sculptors in the nation at events up and down the east coast! He's always enjoyed creating beach sand sculptures as a young child and later in life with his sons and now on a professional level. Whether he's covered in Pumpkin, snow, sand or sawdust, he is extremely happy and looks forward to new adventures that life can bring! Through years of practice, his pumpkin skills have led him all over the nation showcasing what can be accomplished with pumpkin. His background includes carpentry, graphite portraits, clay, mold making, horror movie special FX and over 15 years of professional airbrushing. With over 300,000 followers, Liz Marek has become very well-known in the cake decorating community! She lives in Beaverton, OR and teaches beginner and advanced bakers how to craft amazing custom-decorated cakes through her online business, The Sugar Geek Show. Liz began her cake decorating business as a side job just 13 years ago. After running that business from her licensed home kitchen for many years, she started winning cake competitions and making more of a name for herself. Liz has written books, appeared on television and the Food Network many times, and traveled around the world as a professional speaker. She is a mom to two young children, and she now focuses solely on teaching online through The Sugar Geek Show. In this interview, Liz shares plenty of helpful tidbits about running a cake business, but what I found most compelling were her many missteps and consistent persistence along the way. Things often didn't go the way she hoped or planned, but she still made something great out of it by constantly reinventing herself! This is Part 2 of Liz's interview. In this episode, Liz shares beginner tips for starting a cake business, what it was like to compete on (and win) Halloween Wars on the Food Network, and more about how the Sugar Geek Show has grown (and where it's going).Get full show notes and transcript here: https://forrager.com/podcast/32

The Geekery Awakens In this episode: This week was all about the Geekery Catch-Up. Since Beej went out of the country a few weeks ago, we had to record two episodes the week before, and he had internet issues the week after. So there was a good amount of time there for geekery to accumulate. We wanted to do one, big episode about it because not only was there so much of it, but we had so much to say about it. From books and audiobooks and video games and movies and Halloween cooking shows and gacha games, Nintendo games...we have a ton to talk about. We even go on some tangents (MoviePass! *shakes fist angrily in the air*, the future of the Netflix MCU: thoughts?) All in all, it's a great episode full of cool stuff. Oh, and by the way, we need questions for our semi-annual Q&A episode, so if you have a question of any sort, tweet at us, email us, throw it toward us on Slack, Discord, or Reddit...wherever. We wanna answer what you want to ask! Geek Offer of the Week patreon.com/geektogeekcast Weekly Geekery BJ watched A Star Is Born, is listening to the Crazy Rich Asians audiobook, finished Thrawn and started Thrawn Alliance, is still playing Spider-Man on PS4, started Luke Cage Season 2 and Iron Fist Season 2, resubscribed to Marvel Unlimited, and is watching Halloween Wars and Baking Championship. Void saw (and loved) Hamilton, read Hamilton The Revolution, voted via mail, resubscribed to Gamefly, watched The Dragon Prince Season 1, played Super Mario Party, tried Magic The Gathering Arena, and is playing a ton of Dragalia Lost. This week Bvster takes a beat with Jewel Johnson, a pastry chef and owner of Green Jeans Cake. Jewel discusses how she injects her own flavor while working for someone else, the truth behind being a contestant on Food Network's Halloween Wars, and the biggest misconceptions about pastry chefs.
Face Off: Game Face ends with a weird episode that was intended as the pilot before they made some changes. Monty and Rhias liked it more than the regular episodes. Halloween Wars is a weird show about a hyper-specific kind of pumpkin carving that somehow has a spinoff series with exactly the same title. And Ink Master: Angels manages to get rid of a lot of the annoying stuff about Ink Master, which was a delightful surprise.

Big day for the SHOWcast: first, #TheShowKC chatted with teachers about this bottle flipping phenomenon. Isn't it so annoying? Listeners tried to guess the best TV couples of all time. Then, it was time for Face Your Fears Friday. Jen was surprised by the Rat Man from The Edge of Hell Haunted House, who confronted Jen with live rats in the studio! It turned out to be a 2-for-1, since a clown accompanied Rat Man and scared the pants off of Shaylee the Millennial! Finally, we capped off a great Friday with Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls) who is hosting the new season of Food Network's Halloween Wars.
