Florida suffered a “gut punch,” in Billy Napier's words at Tennessee, squandering a 10-0 second-half lead before falling in overtime on Rocky Top. But the Gators lost more than a game; veteran quarterback Graham Mertz suffered a season-ending injury as his college career came to an end. UF now turns to true freshman DJ Lagway full time. An inspired, improving defense will help, but the Gators are just entering the toughest stretch of the nation's most difficult schedule. Coach Billy Napier enters his second season up to his eyeballs in a massive rebuild and facing low expectations, but he does have history on his side. Year 2's have been good to the Gators ever since Steve Spurrier's 1991 team produced the program's first 10-win season. Napier's second team at Louisiana also was a major upgrade. If these Gators are to follow suit, much will hinge on QB Graham Mertz. Word is he has won the confidence of his pass-catchers. Even so, any way you cut it 2023 is a rebuilding year. Those who want to relive the hey-day of Florida football can tune into Netflix's four-part doc, “Swamp Kings.” Mark binged it while Edgar had issues with Episode 1, one of many topics discussed during the latest Swamp Things. New starting quarterback Graham Mertz spoke for the first time since the spring game and a few days after Billy Napier named him starting quarterback. Mertz said all the right things. The question is whether he can make all the right moves for the Gators. Former UF QB Anthony Richardson has made enough of them to earn the starting job with the Indianapolis Colts. It's a testament to Richardson's talent and potential, but this will be a baptism by fire. Back in Gainesville, Mark and Edgar are fired up during the latest Swamp Things as the Gators wrap up fall camp and the season opener at Utah is two weeks away. Worst kept secret: QB Graham Mertz (:38) QBs Jack Miller, Max Brown & Micah Leon (9:45) Mertz & Wisconsin program (18:45) Linebacker Jack Pyburn (24:24) Areas of concern: Tight end and safety (26:30) Positives (33:12) Anthony Richardson in NFL (37:57) Netflix documentary: ‘Swamp Kings' (43:20) New recruits (53:20) Military salute (1:03) Jeremy Foley's Corner: Volleyball (59:11)
Washington Commanders new OC Eric Bieniemy has been on the NFL news for players being concerned about his intensity. Commander Head Coach Ron Rivera in a press conference said that some players have struggled to adapt to Eric Eric Bieniemy's intensity. JT Sports discusses if Eric Bieniemy's coaching style will have a negative impact on the Washington Commanders. Has there been a shortage of great games in College Football? With Conference Realignment Reshaping College Football with schools like USC, Washington, and Oregon joining the Big Ten and Oklahoma and Texas becoming members in the SEC will this lead to more big games in College Football on a weekly basis? JT shares his thoughts on College Football's great game shortage. JT gives his early thoughts on Florida vs Utah. The Florida Gators will travel to Utah to take on the Utes Thursday night week 1 of the 2023 College Football season. How will the Gators offense look with new QB Graham Mertz and how will he perform against the Utah defense? Utah Football is coming off their second consecutive PAC-12 Championship and return QB Cam Rising, who looks for redemption for last year's game-losing interception against Florida. JT Sports believes that Kentucky Football is the most underrated team in the SEC going into this College Football Season. With Liam Cohen returning as OC, and the addition of QB Devin Leary from the transfer portal Kentucky could have one of the best offenses in the SEC this year along with a great defense. JT explains why he thinks the Kentucky Wildcats will be better than Tennessee and South Carolina and will have the second-best record in the SEC East behind Georgia. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jtsports/support

Florida kicks off its second spring practice under Billy Napier this weekend. During 14 practices until the April 18 spring game, all eyes will be transfer QB Graham Mertz, the retooled O-line and a defense coming off a historically bad season and welcoming new, 29-year-old coordinator Austin Armstrong. While spring practices have Gator Nation's attention, college basketball seizes center stage elsewhere. Todd Golden's team is playing out the string while Kelly Rae Finley's squad likely ended a disappointing season in embarrassing fashion. At least baseball fans have something to smile about entering a weekend visit from Miami. Mark and Edgar dig into the details during the latest Swamp Things. Spring football practice: How predictive is it? (2:48) Limited access to players (9:48) New assistant coaches (13:51) Player potential (17:15) Spring game opportunities (21:15) Men's basketball (30:38) Women's basketball (37:00) UF athletic department problems (41:00) NFL Scouting Combine (47:47) Jeremy Foley's Corner: Baseball (56:40)
After Anthony Richardson declared for the NFL Draft, it was no surprise the Gators needed to hit the transfer portal for a quarterback. It probably did come as a surprise that the QB was Wisconsin transfer Graham Mertz. David Waters and Will Miles (Read and Reaction) are joined by Seth Varnadore (Varnadore Films) to break down Mertz's game. Also, reaction to Jaden Rashada asking to be released from Florida. Wisconsin QB Graham Mertz talks Ohio State
Its game week for the Wisconsin Badgers football team as they gear up for the Ohio State Buckeyes. We talk about how good Ohio State is and why I hate playing them. I talk a little bit about the recent history in the series and just how demoralizing playing the Buckeyes can be.I talk about the key players on Ohio State and dive into just how good CJ Stroud is and why he's going to drive Badger fans nuts. We discuss the great WR corp Stroud has at his disposal and why a potential injury to the Buckeyes star running back may be a big deal.We discuss five Badgers starting with QB Graham Mertz that need to play well for the Badgers to have a chance against OSU this weekend. Wisconsin is going to need big games from two veteran leaders along the LOS with Joe Tippman and Keanu Benton needing to play major roles in this game for the Wisconsin team to have success. Finally I talk about the gameplan; will Paul Chryst open up the playbook or will Wisconsin try to play a ball-control scheme to keep CJ Stroud off the field. Which strategy makes the most sense? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Wisconsin Badgers football fall practice updates as the offense and QB Graham Mertz seem to be clicking at a little higher level. Great tidbits on the young WRs like Skyler Bell, Markus Allen, Dean Engram and of course Chimere Dike. It does sound like new offensive coordinator Bobby Engram is making some significant changes to what the offense has been over the last several seasons.Do I believe it ? I think there is something there and I'm excited to see what it looks like.I also talk about the salty defensive line and why its going to be such a good unit this year. Rodas Johnson has been flashing in practice and looks like a solid bet to join Keanu Benton and Isaiah Mullens as the starters with great depth behind them. It may not be the strongest pass rushing group, but don't expect many teams to run the ball successfully against the Badgers this year.Wisconsin Badgers football QB Graham Mertz and the passing attack is getting better.
