We would like to thank the Southbank Centre and their staff for their support on this podcast. However, at the time of our event we also learnt that our Associate artist whatsthebigmistry's work The Empire's Old Clothes was cancelled in light of the death of the Queen and we would like to make it clear we strongly disagree with this decision and would like to share solidarity with the artists whose work was pulled from the Unlimited Festival as a result. We have issued a public statement here.Speaker biographies:Tarik Elmoutawakil is an artist, programmer and creative producer as well as Founder and Co-Artistic Director at Marlborough Productions in Brighton, the UK's only performing arts orgnasiation dedicated to intersectional queer arts. Tarik is plugged into a network of disabled qtipoc artivists across the globe, contributing to an ongoing movement to reshape access  and leadership. In 2017 she was the first political candidate from Seattles Peoples Party, and ran for the mayor of Seattle, coming in a very close 3rd out of 21 others. As of late she can be found on the front lines of the powerful Seattle activist movement, fighting toward the decriminalization, defunding and abolition of the racist, sexist and classist institutions who are systemically killing our BIPOC & QTIPOC community. We discuss the current demands around the local BLM and civil rights movements, if she will run for Mayor again and how she is practicing self care during it all. It's called Power in Pleasure: Reconnecting with Your Hunger, Desire, and Joy and runs for five weeks online. I'd love to see you there. M'kali-Hashiki is here! Let's talk about erotic healing and more. M'kali-Hashiki works with people's erotic wounds and erotic breathwork. She has such wisdom and experience in exploring the erotic and also being with our bodies in meaningful ways. Our conversation explores the ways we touch our genitals, the ways we become erotically wounded, what presence and breathwork can offer us in reconnecting with our pleasure and erotic sources. We also dive deep into the concept of safety and why safety isn't available to everyone. When we begin to examine the ways we have to armor ourselves to move through our lives, especially if we experience marginalization by the state, we start to see the ways safety may not be available to us, even in our most intimate relationships. Chris and Rifa take their weekly dip into the choppy waters of culture, tech and diversity. This week we catch up with two iconic queer TV shows: the second season of makeover reality hit Queer Eye on Netflix and groundbreaking FX drama series Pose, about the underground trans ball scene in 1980s New York, which is on the BBC iPlayer. This expanded into a broader conversation about LGBTQI and QTIPOC representation, privilege and ally-ship. Chris is reading David Grann's non fiction book White Darkness, about Henry Worsley's solo attempt to cross Antarctica, while Rifa's reading Oprah's new pithy advice quotations book The Path Made Clear. Find us on Facebook and Instagram. If you're enjoying Refigure, please help us grow our audience by leaving a nice review, 'following' us and sharing with your friends. Thanks a lot!
