Hey friends! Just a little disclaimer - some of the opinions shared in this episode might come across as a little bold, a little sassy, or even a little tough love... but trust us, it's all coming from a place of love. We just want to keep it real, have some fun, and maybe even challenge a few perspectives along the way, but always in the spirit of good conversation. The views shared in this episode are just the personal takes of the people chatting - they don't necessarily represent the producers or anyone elses. So take what resonates, leave what doesn't, laugh along with us, and just know that at the end of the day, it's all love! 'K, bye! Maxine is back in En Vogue, and we're breaking it all down! We're discussing everything from their vocals at the NBA All-Star Game to the fashion, who showed up (and who didn't), and the other performers who took to the court. Plus, we talk about what this reunion could mean for En Vogue's future. Listen in for all the deets, the nostalgia, and our hopes for what's next! Welcome back, Part of Us tribe. This week we're exploring a pivotal moment in En Vogue's career with their 2004 album 'Soulflower.' Looking into the background, we discuss the transformations the group went through, including lineup changes and shifts in musical direction amidst the evolving R&B landscape of the early 2000s. With Cindy and Terry taking on executive producer roles, 'Soulflower' marks a significant shift towards a more mature, neo-soul sound, reflecting both the industry's changes and the group's own evolution. Did we like this change in direction? Listen to find out. We also dissect the album track by track, examining how En Vogue blended neo-soul influences with their signature style. From the opener "Losin' My Mind" to "Stop" to the cover of "I Do Love You (Piece of My Love)," and "New Day Calling" each song on the album offers a unique perspective on love, life, and resilience. We also address listener feedback, discussing the absence of Maxine and Dawn and speculating on how their presence might have shaped the album's dynamics. En Vogue step Behind The Rope. Cindy Herron, Terry Ellis and Rhona Bennett, that is. Fresh off their Masked Singer elimination, the members of En Vogue are here to what about just what it was like to share the stage as Queen Cobra over the past many weeks as they advanced in Fox's hit singing competition. Of course, the convo quickly turns to their Iconic career which has spanned over three decades and is still going strong today. From their debut album in 1990, “Born to Sing”, to the celebration of the just past thirtieth anniversary of “Funky Divas”, En Vogue chats about the music business, those that have come and gone and just what it is like to still be standing today. “Still standing" is an understatement for a super group like En Vogue which have sold over twenty million albums to date and have provided the soundtrack to many of our lives. You can expect to hear all of their hits, and then some, including “Never Gonna Get It”, “Free Your Mind”, “Giving Him Something He Can Feel”, “Whatta Man” this summer as they embark on The Mixed Tap Tour with New Kids On The Block. We are so excited this week to welcome our very special guest, Former Mouseketeer, actress, singer, songwriter, author, personal power life coach and member of the legendary group En Vogue, Rhona Bennett! We chop it up with "Miss R&B" and talk about her past, present and future.
After the wildly successful dance-pop debut by Expose in the late 80's, commercial music began taking a detour right when Hip Hop started to mainstream to a wider audience. In 1990, En Vogue released their debut album "Born To Sing" which yielded the #2 hit "Hold On." As talented as these ladies (Terry Ellis, Dawn Robinson, Cindy Herron, and Maxine Jones) were, it wasn't clear if they had staying power. Two years later that question was answered with the release of "Funky Divas" which yielded three top 10 hits "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)", "Giving Him Something He Can Feel", and "Free Your Mind." There was no doubt, these ladies dominated. With expectations running high, they finally released their third album "EV3" in 1996 which generated the top ten smash "Don't Let Go (Love)" but then dropped off shortly after. It's possible that the long lapses between releases had a lot to do with their decline in popularity. I truly believe that the Clive Davis philosophy played a big role as well. That is to remix their hits for the dance floor so as to extend their presence in all facets of popular music. We'll see the same with another superstar all-girl Hip Hop group in a couple of days. The remixes were and still are a vital marketing tool for artists to reach as many fans as possible. It's not they didn't have any, but remixes appeared to be commissioned for non-hits off their albums. Regardless, En Vogue has sold 20 million records worldwide and ranked as the 2nd most successful female groups of the 1990's with "Don't Let Go (Love)" and "Hold On" ranking as the #12 and #23 most successful girl group songs of all-time. ¹ In 2017, En Vogue (now consisting of Terry Ellis, Rhona Bennett, and Cindy Herron) released "Electric Cafe" and are still touring in support of their current and previous work. You can keep up with their latest at envoguemusic.com. Party Favorz is proud to induct these talented ladies into the Diva Hall of Fame. ¹ En Vogue [Wikipedia] Album: En Vogue – The Diva Series Genre: House Music, Hip Hop Year: 2018 Total Time: 01:14:16 Hold On (Hip Hop Remix) My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It) (Dominique Torti Remix) Whatta Man (12'' Danny D Mix) [with Salt 'N' Pepa] You Don't Have To Worry (Frankie Knuckles Classic Club Mix) Love Don't Love You (Remix 1) Free Your Mind (Tommy's Spoiled Brat Mix) Give It Up, Turn It Loose (Kevin's Extended R&B Mix) Whatever (Mousse T.
