So, so, so ... A song can be catchy, polished, and still leave you cold. Another can hit one weird synth moment and suddenly your brain is locked in. We lean into that tension while we keep our Women's Month run going, spotlighting women artists and women-fronted acts across K-pop, Thai pop, Japanese reggae, and K-rock.We start with EVERGLOW's “Code,” talking through what changes when a group moves companies and shrinks from six members to four. The track has a club-ready pulse and a glossy K-pop build, but we don't just stamp it “bop” and move on. We argue about whether pop “generic” is a flaw or the whole point, and why certain melodies, textures, and vocal choices either stick for days or slide right off. From there, we chase a music industry mystery with PRETZELLE's “Ready or Not,” a bright Thai pop song that shows up as a new release even though the group has disbanded. That opens a deeper conversation about global release dates, labels, and how fans experience music discovery now. Then Akane's “No More Cry” shifts the entire mood with Japanese reggae and dancehall energy, delivering a message about unity and choosing community when the world feels split. Finally, we throw the “monkey wrench” into the playlist: ChRocktikal's “Peace,” a brand-new rock band fronted by Dreamcatcher's Lee Siyeon. If you miss the feel of classic heavy rock and early metal with clean, controlled powerhouse vocals, this one hits hard and makes the live-show temptation very real.Subscribe for more women in music picks, share this with a friend who needs new releases, and leave a review with the one track you're replaying most.EVERGLOW Instagram X YouTube CODEPRETZELLE Instagram X YouTube Ready or Not?Akane Instagram X YouTube NO MORE CRYChRocktikal Instagram X YouTube PEACESupport the showPlease help Music Elixir by rating, reviewing, and sharing the episode. A smooth, late-night collab sets the tone like a toast among friends: minimal, sultry, and quietly certain of its vision. IYWO brings the talents of I.M, Yoonseok, Wooki and OF'F to the forefront. From there we hit the gas with three girl-group cuts that turn confidence into choreography—each track a different weapon in your mood arsenal. Hearts2Hearts bring a 90s-club shimmer on RUDE!, where a crisp beat and cool harmonies frame the line we all wish we said sooner: call me rude, I could care less. It's boundary-setting you can dance to, catchy enough to stick, and subtle enough to feel effortless.IVE stride in next with BANG BANG, all spaghetti-western twang and bassline swagger. Think showdown energy without the shouting—polished pop that feels made for the stage, fan chants already echoing in your head. The hook lands like a hip-shot, the confidence is matter-of-fact, and the whole thing plays like a movie scene you get to direct. Then KiiiKiii flip the script with 404 (New Era), a deep-house, EDM-tinged anthem that asks for eye contact and presence. The error/era wordplay points to a bigger truth about screens and connection, and Tablo's production touch keeps the track sleek, human, and club-ready.Across these songs we trace a single thread: confidence can be quiet or loud, smoky or neon, but it's always yours to claim. Whether you need a decompressing night drive, a boundary anthem, or a cyber-cool pulse to cut through the noise, we've got you. Hit play for the full breakdown, then tell us which track powers your week. Joe and Robert are back for a midweek check-in on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18, Episode 2—and things quickly spiral from Girl Group fatigue to larger questions about whether Drag Race has officially lost the plot. Along the way, they unpack the ethics of watching the show in 2026, RuPaul's role in the franchise machine, and why communal viewing might be the last thing keeping Drag Race alive. Joe recounts a chaotic Whole Foods run and sets the tone with some early-morning nonsense Robert responds to lingering “allegations” made against him across the Afterthought Media universe A deep dive into why the Girl Group challenge continues to underwhelm—and actively embarrass—the queens A comparison between Drag Race's creative stagnation and long-running institutions like SNL and The Simpsons Joe argues that RuPaul has become more “face of the brand” than active creative force—and what that means for the show's future A discussion on whether Drag Race is designed to be watched socially rather than alone Robert predicts the upcoming RDR Live challenge will once again fall into the show's creative rut A listener asks whether there is an ethical way to consume Drag Race in 2026 Joe and Robert debate Paramount+, corporate media, and the moral gymnastics of still loving a problematic franchise They explore alternatives like bar viewing parties, supporting local queer spaces, and tipping local queens Joe gives a heartfelt thank-you to a listener whose voicemail arrived at exactly the right moment The “Mr. Tendernism” TikTok barbecue controversy as an analogy for RuPaul's current role in Drag Race Why viral fame, brand dilution, and overexposure eventually turn on everyone A brief but pointed check-in on the ongoing Ginger Minj discourse—and why the stories keep unraveling Nostalgia for Drag Race moments that genuinely shocked even production Joe and Robert agree: Drag Race no longer feels like an event. With challenges recycled, stakes lowered, and the franchise stretched thin across platforms and continents, the show may need a radical reset—or at least fewer All Stars seasons—to regain its spark. When flowers bloom, they captivate with beauty—but HANA proves that blooms can bite back. This seven-member Japanese powerhouse, assembled through the "No No Girls" audition program under CHANMINA's expert guidance, has redefined what a rookie girl group can achieve in today's saturated market. From our first listen of "Drop," we were mesmerized by the classical piano introduction that gives way to thunderous bass—a perfect metaphor for the group itself: delicate yet commanding, beautiful yet fierce. Each member contributes a distinctive vocal color to the group's sonic palette, creating a tapestry of sound that sets them apart from their contemporaries. What struck us most during our deep dive was how each song explores a different facet of the Hana metaphor. "Burning Flower" embraces Latino influences with fierce declarations that "the flames will never stop." "Rose" examines the duality of beauty and protection through its thorns. "Tiger" showcases predatory energy with actual growls incorporated into the vocals. Their latest release "Bad Love" ventures into entirely new territory with 90s-inspired indie rock and emo sensibilities, proving their remarkable versatility.CHANMINA's influence permeates everything from the production to the members' performance style, creating a signature sound produced with Japanese sensibilities and Western influences. With writing credits on every track, she's crafting a musical universe where these seven flowers can truly bloom with determination.Whether you're drawn to electro-pop bangers or guitar-driven angst, HANA offers something that will capture your attention and refuse to let go. Listen with headphones to catch the intricate production details that might get lost otherwise—the faint background vocals, the demented music box sounds, the subtle piano motifs that connect their discography.Subscribe to our podcast for exclusive content, including a special subscriber-only episode where we'll spill the tea on what's been happening in our personal lives. Until then, discover HANA and watch these beautiful, determined flowers continue to bloom despite—and because of—their thorns.HANA Instagram X YouTube Official HANA playlistSupport the showPlease help Music Elixir by rating, reviewing, and sharing the episode. Have you ever felt that gut-wrenching mix of sadness and pride when your favorite performer announces they're leaving their group? That complex emotional rollercoaster is exactly what I'm unpacking in this special solo episode. The Japanese idol industry has a beautiful way of framing member departures - not as endings but as "graduations." This perspective transforms what could be seen as loss into a celebration of growth and new beginnings. When a familiar face moves on from their group to pursue acting, modeling, or another passion, it creates ripples throughout both the group dynamic and the fan community. The chemistry shifts, the sound evolves, and we're all left navigating this new reality together. As both a media personality and a dedicated fan, I've experienced this transition from multiple angles. I've seen how social media platforms light up with tribute videos and farewell messages, how concerts become emotional gatherings where memories are cherished and hopes for the future take root. These shared experiences bind fan communities together in a uniquely powerful way. We learn to hold both nostalgia and anticipation simultaneously - honoring what was while embracing what might be. Because ultimately, these transitions remind us that our idols are real people growing and changing just like us. Their stories continue to unfold, just in different ways than before.Whether you're currently processing a favorite member's departure or simply curious about the emotional landscape of fan culture, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this universal experience. K-Pop Comebacks and Concert Chaos

The K-pop landscape is shifting in exciting ways as MONSTA X prepares for their triumphant return as a complete group this September. After four years of waiting while members completed their military service, fans can finally look forward to new music from the full lineup on September 1st. Their recent 10th anniversary concerts showcased their enduring talent and chemistry, though the physical demands have taken a toll – member I.M is currently recovering from back pain that forced him to miss a scheduled appearance.Behind the celebration lurks a more troubling trend in K-pop concert culture. KCON LA has become the site of an impromptu "tent city" as dedicated (or perhaps overzealous) fans camp out nearly two weeks before the event. This raises serious questions about fan safety, venue responsibility, and the sustainability of general admission floor sections at major K-pop events. The potential for dangerous crowding situations has us calling for a return to seated floor arrangements to prevent injuries and ensure everyone has a fair, comfortable concert experience. For fans outside the typical tour circuit cities (LA, Chicago, Newark/New York, Atlanta), there's growing frustration at being overlooked. Boston stands out as a prime example of a city with excellent infrastructure for concerts – multiple suitable venues, strong public transportation, walkable streets, and cultural attractions that would make it appealing for touring artists. As K-pop's global popularity continues to surge, perhaps it's time for entertainment companies to expand their geographical footprint and bring these electrifying performances to more diverse locations across North America.Whether you're excited about MONSTA X's comeback, concerned about concert safety, or hoping your city will finally make it onto the tour schedule, one thing remains clear – the passion of K-pop fans continues to drive the industry forward, though sometimes that passion requires better channels and more thoughtful organization to ensure everyone's enjoyment and wellbeing.Support the showPlease help Music Elixir by rating, reviewing, and sharing the episode. Stage 3 of Sahara Gravel in Morocco was harder than pretty much anyone was anticipating. Despite seeming to have hardly any climbing, it proved to be the toughest day yet and the first stage that took the riders deep into the Sahara Desert. Payson sat down with British rider Maddy Nutt, who has been battling for first place with Luise Valentin since day one. She talks about getting caught in the sand, how this race stacks up with Migration Gravel, and why she avoids events with a certain type of professional rider. Then, we get an Adventure Stache first: five interview subjects in one conversation. The self-titled Girl Group consists of five friends from around Europe and the UK — Laura, Sam, Sophie, Josie, and Claire, who are taking the race at their own pace and enjoying the heck out of it.
