A éste le siguió un segundo trabajo, Indelibly Stamped, que tuvo la misma repercusión, o sea, ninguna. Con estas expectativas el grupo se remodeló saliendo Palmer y Millar que fueron sustituidos por otros músicos, que no citamos porque duraron poco. A causa del escaso éxito inicial, Davies y Hodgson crearon una nueva formación con nuevos músicos: Dougie Thomson, John Helliwell y Bob Siebenberg, y sus nuevos trabajos incluyeron un sonido más orientado al pop y con un importante participación del piano y del saxofón. Para finales de la década de los 70, eran ya una de las bandas más populares de rock duro en todo el mundo, consiguiendo cosechar un gran número de seguidores. El éxito de Breakfast in America continuó con Famous Last Words, tras el cual Hodgson anunció su abandono para emprender una carrera en solitario. Con Davies como líder de facto de Supertramp, el grupo publicó Brother Where You Bound (1985), con una mayor influencia del rock progresivo, y Free as a Bird (1987), que incorporó elementos del dance y contó con la incorporación de Mark Hart. Tras una gira posterior, Supertramp estuvo inactivo durante casi una década. En 1996, Davies volvió a reunir al grupo, ampliado con nuevos músicos, para publicar Some Things Never Change, seguido de una gira en 1999 y de Slow Motion en 2002, su último álbum hasta la fecha. En su primera vida fueron la réplica americana de los Stones, básicamente por su sonido agresivamente rítmico, con raíces en el blues. La banda se formó en Boston, en 1970. En 1972 firmaron un contrato con Columbia Records y tras lanzar una serie de grabaciones, realmente se consolidaron en 1975 con el álbum Toys in the Attic. Con su siguiente álbum, Rocks, de 1976, cimentaron su estatus de super estrellas de hard rock. Para finales de la década de los 70, eran ya una de las bandas más populares de rock duro en todo el mundo, consiguiendo cosechar un gran número de seguidores. December 6 | In this episode of The Cycling Podcast, Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe remember Paul Sherwen, who died at the weekend aged 62. Sherwen was a pioneering rider – heading to France to make it as a professional in the late 1970s when very few British or English-speaking riders managed to make that breakthrough. He was the first of the 'second wave' of English-speakers to tackle the Tour de France and he paved the way for the likes of Graham Jones, Sean Yates and Robert Millar, as well as Phil Anderson and Allan Peiper from Australia. Sherwen rode the Tour seven times for the Fiat and La Redoute teams, finishing it five times, he was twice British national champion, and when he retired he was a directeur sportif for the iconic Raleigh-Banana team. But he is perhaps best known to millions of British, American and Australian cycling fans as one half of the television commentary double-act he formed with Phil Liggett. For successive generations of cycling fans he has been a friendly, welcoming voice for newcomers discovering a complex sport. He was also one of the first team press officers, with the Motorola team in the early 1990s, and – having been brought up in Kenya – he returned to Africa and lived in Uganda, where his passion for the people and the countryside was obvious to everyone who met him. In this episode we hear from Sherwen's great friend and colleague Phil Liggett, from contemporaries from his early professional years, John Herety, Sean Yates and Tim Harris, from journalist Luke Edwardes-Evans, American rider Ian Boswell and François Thomazeau and Orla Chennaoui. Philippa York used to be Robert Millar, and he was one of Britain’s greatest cyclists. At the Tour de France he won the mountains classification, and did the same at the Giro d’Italia. He took stages at all three Grand Tours amongst many other big wins, but the whole time, he wanted to be someone else. Robert has now gone, after transitioning into Philippa - or Pippa, as she's also known.
