You may have seen headlines in recent weeks about a deeply shocking French court case. A man has admitted drugging his wife with powerful sedatives over a period of a decade and inviting as many as 80 local men to rape her during that time.  Due to the effects of the drugs she had been subjected to, the woman Gisèle Pélicot, had no idea of what was happening to her. The case has led to increased awareness of chemical submission, which is a type of drug-facilitated crime. It's defined by the Spanish Journal of Legal Medicine as “the use of chemical substances to manipulate the will of a person, producing incapacity or unconsciousness that facilitates criminal action.” Is that like spiking drinks with GHB? The indictment describes how Combs and his associates allegedly lured women under the guise of relationships, then used threats, drugs like ketamine and GHB, and a network of enablers to compel participation in so-called “freak-offs”—orgies attended and sometimes observed by Combs. In a lawsuit filed in October 2024, a personal trainer, identified as "John Doe," accused Sean "Diddy" Combs of drugging and sexually assaulting him during an after-party at Combs' Los Angeles mansion in June 2022. The trainer alleged that upon arrival, he was asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement and was given a drink that caused him to feel disoriented and weak. He claimed that Combs led him to a room where multiple individuals, including celebrities, were engaged in sexual activities. Nearly 100 years later, his great-grandson, Andrew Luster, was arrested for drugging and raping a 21-year-old college student. Further investigation revealed that Luster drugged multiple women with Liquid X, the date-rape drug GHB, sexually assaulted them, and recorded the assaults on video while his victims were passed out. In the middle of his December 2002 trial, Luster was given $1 million bail then failed to appear in court, fleeing his conviction where he was sentenced in absentia to 124 years in prison. Luster's legal case earned major attention due to his family's wealth, and in January 2003, the FBI issued a warrant for Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. Luster was found in June of 2003 by Dog the Bounty Hunter, Duane Chapman, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he was handed over to American authorities. (FULL INTERVIEW STARTS AT 00:18:38)Suchir Balaji was a 26-year-old artificial intelligence researcher who worked at OpenAI. He was involved in developing models like GPT-4 and WebGPT. In October 2024, he publicly accused OpenAI of violating U.S. copyright laws by using proprietary data to train AI models, arguing that such practices harmed original content creators. His essay, "When does generative AI qualify for fair use?", gained attention and was cited in ongoing lawsuits against OpenAI. Suchir left OpenAI in August 2024, expressing concerns about the company's ethics and the potential harm of AI to humanity. He planned to start a nonprofit focused on machine learning and neuroscience. On October 23, 2024 he was featured in the New York Times speaking out against OpenAI.On November 26, 2024, he was found dead in his San Francisco apartment from a gunshot wound. Drink spiking is on the rise and extremely underreported. More than 90% of people who suspected their drink was spiked didn't report the incident to the hospital, police, or venue. Nearly 11 million women in the US have been sexually assaulted while drunk or drugged. Drink spiking is so common yet so underreported due to lack of awareness, shame/embarrassment, memory loss, fear of retaliation, lack of evidence and or legal/social barriers. 50% of women and men surveyed had their drink spiked at least once. 37% had their drinks spiked multiple times. 72% of people don't know what to do in a spiking situation and when victims DO go to the hospital they're often turned away unless there are signs of rape or assault. These drugs are sheer assault weapons and can be used for serious crimes. They are very expensive to screen so while you can get screened for marijuana in almost every medical facility, most hospitals don't have screens for some of the most common date rape drugs: Rohypnol, Ketamine and GHB.
