BIGFOOT REPLAYS: Rob Pope -- Real Forrest Gump, 15,000 miles Across USA 5 Times

"That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run." - Forrest Gump I'm extremely excited to welcome Rob Pope, the real life Forrest Gump, to this week's show! Over the last few years, Rob has taken on the EPIC challenge of recreating Forrest Gump's famous run. Over 15,000 miles across the United States 5 times, he tested the limits of his own endurance and experienced the U.S. to the absolute fullest. Over his year and a half adventure he experienced highs and lows, received major support from strangers along the way, and ran through some of the most iconic places in the country. The human connections he made, along with the places he explored were life changing. Completing the challenge was absolutely unprecedented. Today's episode is all about this INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE. Rob shares how one of his last conversations with his mother about "Doing one thing that makes a difference in this world" inspired this challenge. He also chats about the adventures he had along the way, along with the obstacles he had to overcome (including a torn quadricep..yikes!). We also talk a lot about one of my favorite subjects....Tom Hanks! Please check out Rob's website. He would love your help supporting two excellent charities- Peace Direct and World Wildlife Fund. Enjoy!! As you know, we're massive Jenny Connor fans here on Conversation Street, and this week, we thought it was about time we invited Sally Ann Matthews back on the podcast to chat about how life on the cobbles has been for her since taking over as Rovers landlady.  Losing a husband, gaining a step-daughter, sinkhole dramas, drunk acting and of course, THAT tasering scene with Sharon... We have a good old natter about all this and more, in this week's bonus show! Sal's currently raising money for five fantastic causes with 50 5K runs. If you'd like to send a bit of cash her way, her fundraising site is open until the end of November here: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=SallyAnnMatthews&pageUrl=1

This is the brilliant inside story of how Joe Biden won the Democratic nomination and The White House, told by Isaac Dovere, the lead political correspondent for The Atlantic. It begins analysing Obama's legacy inside and outside of the party, includes insights from voters who backed Obama twice and voted for Trump, assesses why candidates like Buttigieg, Bloomberg, Warren and Sanders were unable to defeat Biden... and how popular the politics of AOC and Ilhan Omar are with the wider party. Trigger Warning: Baby Loss This week I had the pleasure of chatting to Sophie Martin, otherwise known as @theinfertilemidwife on Instagram. This chat is really packed with helpful information, personal insight and it's so moving to listen to Sophie's story but so uplifting too. So looking forward to sharing this conversation with you! Sophie Martin is a Registered Midwife and has worked in a Central London hospital for the past nine years. One of her special interests is antenatal education, and she regularly teaches on antenatal courses. She has written for the Royal College of Midwives Magazine, alongside blog posts, and appearing on Radio and podcasts. Sophie has personal experience of fertility treatment, having undergone 6 rounds of IVF herself. She also writes about the loss of her sons, Cecil & Wilfred who were born very prematurely. In this episode, we speak about: • How Sophie was able to find strength through grief in the loss of her twin boys • Sophie's ability to work as a midwife while personally experiencing loss and infertility • The items of support in Sophie's Life Raft • The importance of establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries within relationships within infertility • Advice for finding an infertility clinic • How to find the confidence to self advocate even when you're feeling very vulnerable and desperate • Where to find legitimate research pages to stop yourself from falling down the google rabbit hole • and more! Powerful Quotes: "There's no infertility handbook, no one tells you how to negotiate relationships." "It's okay to get home and not remember or not understand. Just pick up the phone or write an email and be really persistent. There should be a standard of care, and this is potentially your one shot at something so massive … Other people get 12 months of the year to try for a baby, whereas people doing IVF get one chance. It's your body, your cycle." "Coping is a funny word. I don't know if anyone really copes [with losing a baby]. You just get up every day…or you don't. But, the days pass." We've got something a little different for Episode 7!We're so excited to welcome Dave ‘Dinger' Bell on the podcast to talk about his upcoming epic adventure and share a very different story on purpose than we've heard before. Ex Royal Marine Dave ‘Dinger' Bell has led anything but an ‘ordinary' life. Serving for over 20 years he's certainly no stranger to the phrase ‘mind over matter' and truly knows what it means to test himself physically and mentally.  Since ‘retiring' he's not exactly been putting his feet up and has been testing himself in new ways ever since. With a 1200 cycle down the length of Thailand, walking all the 282 Scottish Munros and spending a year in the French Alps skiing all winter and mountain biking all summer already under his belt he was looking for his next challenge. Which is exactly what he's done! His next challenge is taking on a solo row across the North Atlantic from New York to Falmouth. He's going to be covering an incredible 3,118 miles ‘the wrong way' across the Atlantic to raise money for two charities that help support veterans with psychological and physical injury. Julia caught up with Dave as he was finishing his isolation in New York before getting his final preparations under way to set off on his epic adventure - at the time of recording Dave was intending to set off on the 15th but due to some unexpected boat damage and weather depending he's hoping to be off on the 18th!Tune in for an absolutely inspiring conversation about physical and mental strength, challenging ourselves, failure, determination and of course purpose. How to supportAfter hearing Dave's story  Luxury Hospitality is proud to now be sponsoring him on his journey. If you'd like to support Dave on his incredible challenge and donate to his charities too you can do so here - https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=DaveDingerBell&pageUrl=1Dave's raising money for two wonderful charities - SBSA and Rock 2 Recovery. Team camps can be tricky things - melting pots of egos, injuries and new equipment. The last thing anyone needs is two podcasters turning up to ask inane questions... With that in mind, Ruaridh and Ric went for a behind-the-scenes look at the Chain Reaction Cycles team's annual set-up straightener. They also look ahead to a pro-packed first big UK enduro - the Epic Hope PMBA Enduro (which carries EWS Qualifier status) at the end of the month. Anticipation builds ahead of New Van (better title pending) arriving, Ruaridh opens up about opening up shoulders, Ric retells one of his more spectacular racing disasters and the sporting career of Take That's Mark Owen comes up for debate. As one listener to the Mojo Podcast pointed out in a recent review - this podcast series is about "deep and raw conversations that offer great perspectives each week". And that is an excellent summary of this week's conversation, which is the last in the first series of the Mojo Podcast. Louis Nethercott is a former Royal Marine Commando, veteran of tours in Afghanistan and now one half of a duo on a quest to conquer the world's five largest islands...on foot! His mojo story is brutally frank, certainly raw and incredibly inspiring. We talk about his wartime experiences, what he learned from the Royal Marines training and its ethos and how he's applied this to his post military life. Louis is very open about his struggle with PTSD and the dark place he found himself - and how he emerged from that place. Together with his mate and fellow veteran Ant Lambert, they crafted an idea for a huge adventure that would test them beyond anything they had experienced before - Expedition 5 was born. A world record attempt - two men walking unaided across the worlds' 5 biggest islands. Through brutal jungles and across freezing icecaps. Louis shares stories about the expeditions so far - after completing 4/5ths of the challenge - some of the deep lows and near death experiences, as well as the learning and joy the adventure has given him. There is some strong language in this episode and so it's been marked as explicit. You can learn more about this epic adventure via the website http://expeditionfive.co.uk And if you'd like to support their final push acorss Baffin Island - here is the Just Giving page https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=Expedition5&isTeam=true Thank you for all the support and reviews so far, let's meet back here soon for series 2.
